NowHIRE Offers Increased Functionality of ATS through eScreen Integration

NowHIRE Offers Increased Functionality of ATS through eScreen Integration

Pep Boys demonstrates functionality of seamless nowHIRE and eScreen system integration

Detroit, MI (PRWEB) March 10, 2009 -—

nowHIRE. com, a premier provider of applicant tracking and hiring management systems (http://nowhire. com/ATS_Custom. htm), announced increased functionality of its applicant tracking system (http://nowhire. com/FAQs. htm) (ATS) through a successful integration of eScreen’s drug screen system. Pep Boys, the nation’s leading automotive aftermarket retail and service chain, is the first customer to leverage the integration.

“eScreen’s products compliment nowHIRE’s continued dedication to offer our customers a configurable, efficient and easy-to-use applicant tracking system,” said Joseph N. Impastato II, nowHIRE’s president and founder. “This latest integration offers our customers increased functionality and a seamless, highly accurate drug screen service.”

EScreen offers employers 15-minute negative drug test (http://www. escreen. com/products. html) results nationwide, delivered electronically to nowHIRE’s ATS. The drug testing is available through eScreen’s network of over 1,800 occupational health providers that have been equipped with the eScreen drugs of abuse screening system powered by eScreen123. The automated process is managed by the employer through the nowHIRE ATS.

When Pep Boys accesses the nowHIRE ATS to indicate that an applicant has accepted a position with the company, the employer is automatically directed to eScreen’s scheduling system. Once the employer selects a collection / testing site, a barcoded ePassport™ is provided to the applicant, which includes a map to the collection site. Afterwards, the employer is automatically re-directed to the nowHIRE system to submit the request.

“The eScreen process eliminates the need for a Chain of Custody form, eliminating paper waste and reducing costs. The integration has allowed Pep Boys to easily and quickly request the necessary drug screening and automatically receive results through the system. Negative drug test results are available in the system in about 15 minutes,” said Karen Bryson, director of talent management at Pep Boys. “Our continued work with nowHIRE has allowed us to continue to streamline our hiring process, while saving time and money.”

Double Glazing Company Reaches New Heights

Double Glazing Company Reaches New Heights

Business is thriving for Central Scotland Joinery, a double glazing company who serve home owners throughout Scotland. With the recent launch of their website and the erection of a purpose built showroom and conservatory village, Central Scotland Joinery is beating the downturn with a proactive and positive campaign.

Grangemouth, Falkirk (PRWEB) October 21, 2009

Just six months after it launched, Central Scotland Joinery's website already serves in excess of 1,000 visitors each month, a respectable number for a relatively new web presence in a saturated and overrun market.

This admirable number not only highlights the success Central Scotland Joinery (http://www. centralscotlandjoinery. co. uk) has received online, but it outlines a wider marketing approach for the youthful and vibrant company. Fitting over two hundred windows every week, Central Scotland Joinery had to execute attractive and efficient marketing campaigns during the downturn to ensure business remained strong.

With numerous door canvassing teams, a well ranked website and friendly and helpful staff, Central Scotland Joinery has glued together a combination of both online and offline experts to drive the company forward and become a forefront supplier of double glazing in Scotland (http://www. centralscotlandjoinery. co. uk). And this success has prompted expansion in the form of a two million pound development based in Laurieston, Falkirk, to showcase the company's ability to provide quality installations.

The new purpose built showroom is still under development and will feature an in-house glazing team, numerous window and door displays and a conservatory village. Managing Director Jamie Haston said today that "Our proactive approach combined with our unique ten year insurance backed guarantee has provided customers with a great sense of security during these uncertain times. As a company we are growing stronger every day and it is important our customers can see this, and that's why we're building our new showroom. It is an extremely exciting time for us."

Jamie continued, "Our ultimate aim is to become the largest and most well respected double glazing company in Scotland and we believe this is achievable through time and dedication. Our expert staff and efficient processes, combined with our friendly manner, ensures our service is second to none."

A second branch in the North of Scotland is already looking for a larger site to conduct business on after a rise in sales has resulted in additional work space being required. The branch, named Northern Scotland Joinery (http://www. northernscotlandjoinery. co. uk), houses a separate management team, installation engineers and glaziers. It supports Central Scotland Joinery by handling all enquiries and sales in the northern sector of Scotland.

Central Scotland Joinery is certainly fighting back against the economic downturn and their accelerated approach seems to be working. With a healthy list of installations to be completed, the company has advertised numerous employment opportunities to ensure the increase in business is continued to be handled efficiently.

Central Scotland Joinery Ltd offers services in double glazing (http://www. centralscotlandjoinery. co. uk), replacement windows, conservatory designs, sunrooms, roofline and guttering. Fitting in excess of two hundred windows per week, Central Scotland Joinery is one of Scotland's leading double glazing installers.

Many Parents Don't Admit Their Child is Overweight

Many Parents Don't Admit Their Child is Overweight

Previous studies have found that helping parents recognize their child's overweight status and their willingness to make the necessary behavioral changes is key to their child's treatment.

Tampa, FL (PRWEB) March 16, 2006

Many parents do not identify their child as "overweight," but will select a sketch of a heavier model when asked to choose one representative of their child, new study findings show.

"Comparisons between images and sketches showed that parents' visual perceptions of their children more clearly reflect their child's physical appearance than words they might use to classify the child's weight," study author Dr. Helen J. Binns, of Northwestern University in Chicago told Reuters Health.

"So parents have a correct visual perception, but don't consider that to fit in the medical diagnostic categories," she added.

Previous studies have found that helping parents recognize their child's overweight status and their willingness to make the necessary behavioral changes is key to their child's treatment. Parents who fail to recognize that their child needs help may not be ready to receive any related counseling or other interventions, researchers say.

Yet, various reports show that many mothers - especially those with young children - do not consider their overly chubby children to be overweight, with some wrongly believing that their child is "about the right weight."

In the current study, Binns and her team examined parents' perceptions about their child's overweight status and investigated whether sketches may be useful in helping parents recognize their child's problem.

Of the 223 children studied, 20 percent were overweight and 19 percent were at risk for becoming overweight. Over half (60 percent) of the 2- to 17-year-old study participants were under 6 years old.

Similar to previous studies, the researchers found that many parents failed to recognize that their child was overweight. Only about one third (36 percent) of parents correctly identified their child as overweight or at risk for becoming overweight.

However, asked to select a sketch representative of their child, 70 percent selected a middle or heavier sketch, Binns and her team report in this month's issue of Pediatrics.

This was particularly true for parents of children 6 years or younger, the researchers note.

In addition to choosing the heavier sketches, parents of younger children were also more likely to use words to identify their child as overweight or at risk for becoming overweight, and were more likely to worry about their child's weight.

Overall, 26 percent of parents of overweight or at-risk-for-overweight children said they worried about their child's weight and 18 percent said a doctor had expressed concern about their child being overweight or gaining weight too quickly.

Parents of older children were less likely to worry, unless they considered their child to be less active or slower than his or her peers, or if a doctor had expressed concern about their child's condition, the report indicates.

So what can parents do to address their child's excess weight?

"Start by setting a good example in relationship to foods, physical activity and leisure time activity," Binns advised, noting, "your children are watching you and will follow what you do."

Also, she recommends that parents "play actively" with their children and "decrease the availability of opportunities for sedentary behavior."

Winter Break Activities: “DIY Mini-Camp” Keeps Kids in Engaged in Learning

Winter Break Activities: “DIY Mini-Camp” Keeps Kids in Engaged in Learning

Ten Easy Learning Activities for Families – Winter Break Fun without Breaking the Bank

Baltimore, MD (Vocus) December 9, 2010

It is hard to believe but students will soon be off from school and enjoying winter vacation. But a vacation from school shouldn’t mean a vacation from learning. In fact, winter break offers a terrific opportunity for students, and their families, to enjoy quality (and fun) learning time together. This year, educators from leading virtual school Connections Academy suggest adding a healthy dose of learning fun to winter break by creating your very own mini-camp filled with affordable, hands-on, entertaining, and educational experiences close to home.

All you’ll need for your DIY mini-camp is: 1) a little planning, 2) some high-fun, low-cost, educational “camp” activities and, 3) family time together.

To help get you started, here are ten great family activities from the educators at Connections Academy. Use them “out of the box” or personalize the activities to match your family’s interests. For example, you might incorporate a Harry Potter, winter sports, or music theme throughout your mini-camp. Each activity below offers an opportunity to reinforce valuable skills and educational concepts. Explore the educational concepts with your child and assess their comprehension throughout the activity. Take breaks to answer questions and explain concepts in more detail as needed.

Just remember, the key is to make your winter break mini-camp fun for your kids – they won’t even know they are learning when school is out!

“Campify” your Mini-Camp – What’s a camp without a camp song, a mascot, a T-shirt? Kids will love to customize their camp with these brain boosting activities. For your song, incorporate rhyming, alliteration, and, onomatopoeia. Have each camper write a verse. When choosing a mascot, research its meaning. And show your artistic side by making camp T-shirts (fabric paint or Sharpie markers will do the trick).

Get Cooking! – Cooking and baking offer numerous learning opportunities. Preparing a recipe uses math and fine motor skills by measuring, counting, sifting, sorting, and pouring. Want a challenge? Ask your child to double the recipe! Or, on your next shopping trip, have children compute the costs of ingredients to determine the price of a given recipe. Looking up culinary words in the dictionary targets reading, writing and vocabulary skills. Various cooking techniques, like boiling, even offer an opportunity for a science lesson.

We are Family… Tree – Here’s a wonderful and personal project that incorporates research, writing, storytelling and history – record your family tree! Start with your immediate family and research the answers to questions like, “what were the top news stories when grandfather was born… who was the president… where did they live and how did they live?” Chronicle your family’s story on paper or on the computer.

A Spoonful of Science – Conduct exciting, safe, science experiments in your own kitchen like the students enrolled in Connections Academy’s Science in the Kitchen club. Check out experiments like “Balloon Blast Off”, “Goop Galore” and “Hot Air Aircraft”. Visit the Connections Academy website for details and instructions.

Signed, Sealed, Delivered – Holiday cards and letters offer a great opportunity to practice writing skills. Talk about the parts of a letter including the salutation, body, and closing. And, P. S., talk about what “postscript” means. Give a nod to geography and explore a map to identify where your card recipients live – who lives the farthest away? Who lives north or south of your home? How many different states or countries are you mailing to?

Wrap it Up -- When wrapping gifts, build math and measuring skills by asking kids to measure gifts with a tape measure or ruler to determine the correct amount of wrapping paper needed. Or get creative (and green) and ask kids to design their own wrapping paper out of reused brown paper grocery bags.

Homemade Museum – Everyone in the family has items that they treasure. Whether it is a special doll or photograph or found object like a feather or crystal, showcase treasured objects in your family museum (aka living room). Designate a curator to direct the exhibit and gather and write detailed descriptions of the objects. Encourage public speaking by having children conduct “tours”. Business-savvy kids will be waiting for visitors in their homemade museum gift shop.

Road Trip! – Escape camp life for a day with a road trip. When traveling in the car, test geography knowledge by trying to name all 50 states and their capitals. Play the "license plate game" and take along trivia questions like those from Connections Academy’s Quiz Bowl Challenge. Have fun developing and asking questions like, “how much will it cost for 10 gallons of gasoline if the gallon price is (fill in the blank)?” Or, “if we drive 60 miles per hour, how long will it take us to go 10 miles, 100 miles, 139 miles?”

Recess – Get out and play! In addition to the countless health benefits of physical activity, active games and sports can help strengthen social skills, memory, and analytic abilities. From Red Rover, Red Rover, and Red Light. Green Light to Touch Football and Soccer, kids will enjoy a game that all can play and feel successful playing. Younger children enjoy making their own games. Why not suggest that they invent their own game and then play as a family. You’re sure to be amazed at their creativity. If you live in colder climates, enjoy what the weather offers – go sledding and ice skating and talk about the science behind snow formation, and the properties of ice.

And everyday...read! Stock up on “camp reads” and use vacation time to immerse yourselves in good books. Visit your local library as a family and spend the afternoon exploring the shelves and selecting books. Read with your children everyday. This is one habit you’ll want to keep and one of the most valuable educational gifts you can give to your children.

Capella University Faculty Member Named an Examiner for 2006 Malcolm Baldrige Award

Capella University Faculty Member Named an Examiner for 2006 Malcolm Baldrige Award

Robert Hockin, PhD, teaches in online university’s school of business and technology.

Minneapolis (PRWEB) April 26, 2006

Dr. Robert Hockin, an adjunct faculty member with Capella University’s School of Business and Technology, has been named to the Board of Examiners for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. Hockin has served as an examiner for the award several times during the previous decade.

“This has been a long-standing interest of mine. When the Baldrige Award first became known to me, I thought this is something fascinating and unique,” Hockin said. “It was the first-ever national recognition for companies that are doing outstanding work. When I looked at the process itself, I felt it was also the single best organizational assessment tool I had ever seen or used.”

The Baldrige Award is given by the president of the United States to manufacturing, service, small business, education, and health care organizations that are judged to be outstanding in seven areas: leadership; strategic planning; customer and market focus; measurement, analysis, and knowledge management; human resource focus; process management; and results. Mount ST. Helens Eruption Imminent-Protect Your Pets Now

Mount ST. Helens Eruption Imminent-Protect Your Pets Now

Sleeping quietly for the last 24 years Mount ST. Helens in Toutle, Washington awoke Friday, October 1, 2004 with a resounding burp of steam and gas, warning the Pacific Northwest she's still a force to be reckoned with. After a sustained tremor and a release of sulfurous smelling gas and carbon monoxide around noon on Saturday it became clear St. Helens had the possibility of spewing super hot magma, rocks and ash farther than previously thought. The Level 2 Volcano Alert was raised to Level 3. You may know how to keep yourself safe but what about your pets?

Portland, OR (PRWEB) October 5, 2004

With the grumbling, growling and tremors within Mount ST. Helens growing more intense Saturday afternoon the United States Geographical Society (USGS) has raised the volcano alert from a Level 2 to the highest possible Level 3. Declaring an eruption imminent an estimated 2500 people were removed from the Johnston Ridge Observatory and the Loowit and Windy Ridge Viewpoints were closed.

Scientists expect the coming eruption to include gaseous new magma, rocks and ash fall. Communities in the outlying areas as far south as Portland have been warned to prepare for possible ash fall.

Volcanic ash is not a toxic substance but it can cause a great deal of damage if inhaled or rubbed in the eyes. It's corrosive, gritty and very unpleasant. Even though it can look like snow when it falls it doesn't just melt away. It gets into everything and can create health problems for both people and their animals. Pets, just like people, can develop respiratory problems or eye abrasions from ash particles. Animals that need to go outdoors during an ash fall or where ash has accumulated are the most susceptible.

If you live in an area where ash fall may occur take these safety precautions regarding your pets:

1. Store extra food and drinking water.

2. Keep extra medicine on hand.

3. Keep your animals under cover, if possible.

During an ash fall:

1. Keep pets indoors. If pets go out, brush or vacuum them before letting them indoors. Be sure to clean between the paw pads so they don't lick and ingest accumulated ash particles.

2. Make sure they are in a covered, enclosed area and have clean food and water if you are unable to bring them indoors.

3. Discourage active play in dusty settings.

Inside Edge Manages Summit on Behavioral Modification and Blood Pressure

Inside Edge Manages Summit on Behavioral Modification and Blood Pressure

ISHIB convened the first summit meeting among key opinion leaders on better blood pressure control through behavioral modification for both patients and health care professionals. The meeting was managed by Inside Edge Consulting on behalf of ISHIB.

Princeton, NJ (PRWEB) March 26, 2008

Inside Edge Consulting, a fast-growing advocacy agency, provided comprehensive, turn-key summit meeting support, management and editorial services to ISHIB for the first Summit Meeting on Behavioral Modification in Hypertension Management February.

A leader in this field of healthcare, Margaret Scisney-Matlock PhD (http://www. nursing. umich. edu/faculty/scisney-matlock_margaret. html)], RN, FAAN chaired the meeting. “It was great to kickoff this initiative with the new ISHIB Executive Director (Jack Hannings) present. Although we have adapted various approaches to handling behavior change, we singularly recognize that the “old” ways can be combined with new technological tools to achieve significant breakthrough in clinical practice with a better paradigm for behavioral modification in treating elevated blood pressure.”

A coterie of distinguished researchers and clinicians in the healthcare industry met in Atlanta Feb 22-23 in Atlanta, including Dr. Kenneth Jamerson (http://www. umengage. org/what/highdoc. htm)], who has led some of the world’s most significant studies of hypertension. Recently, as Medical Director of the Program for Multicultural Health at the University of Michigan Health System, he has turned his focus to the alarmingly high incidence of high blood pressure in African Americans (1 in every 3 individuals), a minority population more likely to develop this condition than any other group in the world.

“We used to believe that African Americans were genetically predisposed to develop high blood pressure,” says Jamerson, “but studies show there is little evidence of a genetic component.”

In an African American community intervention study, Jamerson and his colleagues established that lifestyle modifications outside of the physician’s office resulted in decreased blood pressure, long term weight loss, and lower cholesterol levels. “It’s an empowering and wonderful road of discovery,” says Jamerson. “Prior to our research, it was thought that if you were an African American with high blood pressure, there was only a limited amount you could do. But, with the right treatment -- including early detection, proper medication, lifestyle changes, and patient education -- people can actually turn things around.”

The summit meeting focused on two key areas – the knowledge base, attitudes and skill sets that health care professionals and patients needed to create a successful initiative, and metrics/tools to gauge patient and health care professional success in adhering to medication and lifestyle changes.

The key result was a consensus document that would direct the “operationalizing” a 360-degree approach that will include behavior intervention, pharmaceutical intervention if necessary, and electronic or e-based outreach integrating different aspects of clinical management.

Clinical Tested "Agele" Shows Promise For Those Who Have Spent Years In The Sun

Clinical Tested "Agele" Shows Promise For Those Who Have Spent Years In The Sun

"Agele's" organic-aging skin care lets the body produce maximum new Cellular regeneration with natural scientifically selected, formulated, herbal plant ingredients.

Beverly Hills (PRWEB) July 7, 2006

“Agele” is the new organic platinum anti-aging skin care formula that is a winner in today’s market place is now available online at Pureagele. com. The formula lets the body produce maximum new cellular regeneration through organic, natural, scientifically selected and formulated, herbal plant ingredients.

Although a premium anti-aging product, the pure natural and organic skin care product line is geared toward the entire family. It began when Agele founder, LaShone Renee, decided she had enough of testing various skin care products on her son who was born with asthma, allergies and eczema. Renee brought her more than 9 years career experience in the biotech field to explore better options for natural skin care products.

I knew through my association with major biotech firms in the Bay area, in the labs did not tell the whole story. They most often ignored anything ‘natural’ or ‘chemical free.’ It just did not make sense that if we are supposed to eat healthy and chemical free, why would we want to put anything less that that on our skin? ” said Renee. "I thought it was possible to create a skin care line for the entire family that not only offered quality natural skin care, but also had replenishing qualities.” Renée’s mission soon bought on board Alaine Sankofa, who had more than 10 years of experience in the beauty and cosmetic industry. “We knew we wanted to create the essence of clean, healthy, regenerating and most of all, a natural supplement. We did that with Agele,” Renee said.

Renee and Sankofa blended their knowledge of the science and beauty industry to begin researching natural alternates with skilled chemist Dr. Shiail Shikakra of Washington, DC. The team spent four years of intense research and product development to produce the Agele skin and makeup product line. “The clinical trials and tests gave us remarkable results of rapid cellular regeneration capabilities that instantly improve skin, said Renee.”Now we are excited to share it with the public.”

Industry beauty experts agree the need for natural products is huge and vastly underdeveloped.

A beauty product such as Agele is a winner in today’s market place, “ said Leslie Meyer, professor of Biochemistry and Natural Science. “It stays true to its focus of using natural ingredients to produce a product that offers restorative qualities, especially for many age groups and skin types. Even at a glance the product label tells you that what is not in the product. That is as important as what is in the product. Often people think just being natural makes it good. What makes a natural product great is combining the scientific research to substantiate why particular ingredients are blended and the proven results. In that regard, Agele hits the mark.”

Agele CEO Renee also believes Agele hits the market for organic and natural skin care for the entire family. “We are offering a “Lifetime” money back on all our products,” said Renee. “That is how much we believe Agele will prove invaluable to our clients.”

Agele does not contain mineral oil, petroleum, propylene glycol, DPG, harsh detergents, drying DS alcohol, formaldehydes, lanolin, or Parabens. For more information, call 1- (877) Agele My (877-243-5339) or write 8350 Wilshire Blvd. Suite 200, Beverly Hills, CA 90211 or www. PureAgele. com.

Scripps Health Named to Fortune Magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” List in 2010

Scripps Health Named to Fortune Magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” List in 2010

Scripps is one of two San Diego-based companies to make the list

San Diego (Vocus) January 22, 2010

Scripps Health has been named to Fortune magazine’s 13th annual list of America’s “100 Best Companies to Work For (http://money. cnn. com/magazines/fortune/bestcompanies/2010/snapshots/40.html).”

Scripps ranked No. 40 on this year’s list and is the second San Diego-based company to make the list since the list’s inception in 1998, joining Qualcomm.

“Scripps is honored to be acknowledged for the third time by Fortune as one of America’s premier employers,” said Chris Van Gorder, president and CEO of Scripps Health. “This accomplishment is a result of the entire organization’s efforts to create and maintain one of the most attractive work environments in the country, ultimately benefitting our staff and more than 1.6 million patients who come to us for medical care each year.”

Ranked No. 19 on the list for annual pay, Scripps’ success in creating an attractive work environment stems from listening to its employees’ feedback to set organizational priorities, including compensation, benefits and leadership development. Fortune recognized Scripps for staying competitive on salaries during the economic downturn by making biannual marketplace salary adjustments; offering a phased retirement option that allows older employees to work part time with full-time benefits; and paying bonuses to 11,275 employees in December 2009 for meeting performance objectives.

Despite the economic downtown, Scripps is still hiring. Last year the organization received more than 1.2 million website hits for employment. And Scripps invests heavily in the development of its people, which has increased career development and employee retention.

“Scripps recruits the best and the brightest and we are always looking for new career development opportunities for our staff,” says Vic Buzachero, corporate senior vice president of innovation, human resources and performance management for Scripps Health. “Last year we spent more than $1 million in tuition reimbursement for nearly 3,500 employees.”

Scripps has also demonstrated remarkable success with employee retention. Approximately 27 percent of Scripps’ workforce has been with the organization for more than 10 years, and about 10 percent have been with Scripps for more than 20 years.

Scripps’ turnover rate for nurses – one of health care’s most competitive employment sectors – stands at 9.5 percent, well below California and regional industry standards.

“I have worked in many San Diego hospitals and once I got to Scripps there was no doubt that it was where I was meant to stay,” says Linda Ingalls, an intensive care nurse at Scripps Mercy San Diego. “Scripps has a way of looking at the whole person and that allows me to work at my full potential. It’s the ultimate career destination.”

The list will appear in the Feb. 8 issue of Fortune and is available online now at www. fortune. com]. To select its “100 Best Companies to Work For (http://money. cnn. com/magazines/fortune/bestcompanies/2010/snapshots/40.html)” list, Fortune works with the Great Place to Work Institute to conduct the most extensive employee survey in corporate America. A total of 343 companies participated in this year’s survey and employees at those companies responded to a 58-question survey created by the Great Place to Work Institute, a global research and consulting firm.

The Fortune magazine ranking comes on the heels of two other national accolades Scripps Health has received for workplace excellence. For the sixth consecutive year, Scripps made AARP’s 2009 listing of the 50 Best Employers for Workers Over 50. Working Mother magazine named Scripps to its 2009 list of America’s 100 Best Companies for its family-friendly policies.

“Safe Handling of Hazardous Drugs” Technical Paper from Baxa Corporation Now Posted on PublicRelationsNewsroom. com For Media Access

“Safe Handling of Hazardous Drugs” Technical Paper from Baxa Corporation Now Posted on PublicRelationsNewsroom. com For Media Access

Discussions from a scientific advisory board on the impact of USP 797 and the NIOSH Alert for guiding the safe handling of hazardous drugs in healthcare settings are the topics of a new technical paper posted at the Public Relations Newsroom Web site. This posting joins a related page at the Expert Information for Journalists Web site (Expert411.com) featuring James Jorgenson, RPh, MS, and Martha Polovich, MN, RN, AOCN, industry experts on the subject of safe handling. Polovich was featured recently in the May/June 2005 Journal of Community Oncology explaining the need for safe handling procedures and devices.

Denver, CO (PRWEB) December 24, 2005

With hazardous drug handling brought to the forefront of public scrutiny by USP 797 and the recent NIOSH Alert, a new technical paper has been posted at http://www. PublicRelationsNewsroom. com for media access. Baxa Corporation manufactures devices and systems for safe handling, packaging and distributing fluid medications.

The new safe handling technical paper is found at: http://publicrelationsnewsroom. com/_wsn/page13.html

The “safe handling of hazardous drugs” expert information page is found at http://www. expert411.com/_wsn/page9.html.

The Journal of Community Oncology article featuring Marty Polovich and detailing hazardous drug handling risks is found at: http://www. communityoncology. net/journal/articles/0203277.pdf

The NIOSH Alert, "Preventing Occupational Exposures to Antineoplastic and other Hazardous Drugs in Healthcare Settings," reflects years of work by physician, nurse, pharmacist and scientific experts in collaboration with members of the broad-based NIOSH Hazardous Drug Safe Handling working group. Among the findings in the Alert are warnings that previous workplace precautions for containing hazardous drugs have been inadequate. Examples include:

"Sessink and Bos noted that 11 of 12 studies detected cyclophosphamide in the urine of healthcare workers tested, indicating continued exposure despite safety precautions." (page 17)

"Considering all the data, the weight of the evidence in occupationally exposed cohorts demonstrates an association between exposures to hazardous drugs and increases in various measures of genotoxicity..." (page 19)

"Recent evidence summarized in this Alert documents that worker exposure to hazardous drugs is a persistent problem. Although most air sampling studies have not demonstrated significant airborne concentrations of these drugs, the methodology employed in the past has come into question...and may not be a good indicator of environmental contamination of the workplace. All studies that examined surface wipe samples have determined that surface contamination of the workplace is common and widespread." (page 41)

The Alert recommends that employers improve environmental and employee protection where hazardous drugs are handled. The specific benefits of closed systems were called out:

"An investigation conducted in the US demonstrated a reduction in both the percentage of urine samples with measurable levels of cyclophosphamide or ifosfamide present and the concentration of the drugs in the urine following use of a closed-system device for six months..." (page 18)

"Transfers from primary packaging such as vials to dosing equipment (i. e., infusion bags, bottles or pumps) should be carried out using closed systems whenever possible. Devices that contain the product within a closed system during drug transfers limit the potential for aerosol generation, as well as exposure to sharps." (page 35)

A leading provider of devices and systems for the preparation, handling, packaging, and administration of liquid medications, Baxa Corporation manufactures and markets a wide range of healthcare products for use in hospitals, critical care units and alternate-site pharmacies. Headquartered in Englewood, Colorado, Baxa has subsidiaries and sales offices in Canada, the United Kingdom and Denmark, and distribution partners worldwide. Beverly Hills Dentist Finds Proprietary Gum Bleaching Technique Better than Laser Methods

Beverly Hills Dentist Finds Proprietary Gum Bleaching Technique Better than Laser Methods

Women and men throughout the United States, Los Angeles, and the world trust cosmetic dentist / periodontist Dr. Alex Farnoosh, who invented proven methods to cure pigmented gums, and help them improve their discolored gum appearance.

Beverly Hills, CA (PRWEB) May 10, 2008

It's not a treatment you hear much about, but for men and women living with dark gums, gum bleaching is a popular periodontal procedure. Recently, more and more people living with this condition have learned about a new laser technique to de-pigment gums, but Beverly Hills dentist / periodontist Dr. Alex Farnoosh has created a unique method to treat gum discoloration and has become a leader in this treatment. He urges people considering laser treatment to learn more about all available gum bleaching options that are more effective.

Gum discoloration can occur for several reasons. Commonly, people who have darker skin may be prone to a buildup of melanin in their gum tissue, additionally certain medications may cause gum discoloration to develop over time. Prior to any cosmetic gum treatment, a board certified dentist or periodontist (a specialist in gum treatment) needs to address any underlying gum disease to maximize oral health and ensure that the tissue is healthy before treatment may commence. This is best determined by a periodontist who is the most highly qualified in the diagnosis and treatment of gum disease.

Beverly Hills dentist / periodontist Dr. Farnoosh is a pioneer in gum bleaching treatment. He has authored several articles on his technique and is published in respected, peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Periodontology and Journal of Pathology. Few dentists offering laser gum bleaching have the years of experience and specialty knowledge Dr. Farnoosh has developed as an accomplished periodontist, university professor, published researcher, and celebrity cosmetic dentist in Los Angeles.

"I've been performing a proprietary gum bleaching technique for over 15 years," says Dr. Farnoosh. "I continue to see some of the initial patients who were treated, and even after all this time, the gum pigmentation has not returned. That gives my patients significant assurance that the results of their procedure will last many years."

Unlike Dr. Farnoosh's method, laser gum bleaching has a very short track record and relapse has proven to be a common problem. In addition, the long-term efficacy and extent of tissue damage caused by the laser technique has not been studied. "Laser treatment has not generated the same long term results, and is less comfortable for patients," says Dr. Farnoosh. Gum bleaching is safe to perform for patients from all walks of life and protects oral health.

All areas of gum discoloration can be treated with a single visit to Dr. Farnoosh's office in Beverly Hills. Dentists who are unfamiliar with gum bleaching techniques may incorrectly inform their patients that nothing can be done to permanently improve the appearance of the gums. Patients are often pleasantly surprised by how quickly the gum bleaching procedure can be performed. Because the amount of pigment saturation and location of gum discoloration varies from patient to patient, Dr. Farnoosh is able to carefully customize treatments based on a patient's needs

"Most of my patients have been bothered by the appearance of their gums and have been looking for a 'cure' for discolored gums for many years," adds Dr. Farnoosh. "When they find out about my practice and the safe, effective gum bleaching treatment I offer, they will travel great distances for expert oral care and a lasting cosmetic result."

In addition to gum bleaching, Dr. Farnoosh also offers cosmetic and microscopic plastic periodontal procedures to enhance esthetics and create a beautiful smile such as gum grafting, dental veneers, and lip lowering treatments for "Gummy Smiles" at his Beverly Hills office.

Dr. Alex Farnoosh (www. thetotalsmile. com) is a dentist / periodontist in Beverly Hills specializing in dental implants, cosmetic periodontal surgery, gum bleaching, and gum grafting. He serves patients from all over Los Angeles, the United States, and other countries. Dr. Farnoosh has published over 40 journal articles and research topics in dentistry and is the inventor of a patented method to treat discolored gums.

Annual Conference to Educate New or Experienced Practitioners on the Science and Business of Weight Management

Annual Conference to Educate New or Experienced Practitioners on the Science and Business of Weight Management

2nd Annual Robard Corporation-funded Continuing Education Conference, to be held in Philadelphia on July 15-17, 2010, to feature nationally recognized lecturers focused on tackling the obesity epidemic.

Mount Laurel, NJ (Vocus) March 25, 2010

Robard Corporation formally announced today its 2nd Annual Continuing Education (CME/CEU) Conference, "The Science and Business of Weight Management for the New or Experienced Practitioner." The conference, which begins on July 15, 2010, in Philadelphia, will focus on the operational and treatment skills, techniques, and strategies healthcare professionals need to successfully open a new weight loss facility or enhance a current weight management program.

Obesity is an epidemic of mounting proportions. The World Health Organization reports that, “Globally, there are more than 1 billion overweight adults, at least 300 million of them clinically obese.” The problem has grown so much, in fact, that First Lady Michelle Obama formally announced in February what she called a "very ambitious" program to end the “American plague of childhood obesity in a single generation.”

Healthcare professionals are in a unique position to improve the quality of life for individuals who are obese and overweight. As the obesity epidemic progresses, healthcare professionals should look toward educational forums to learn the latest research advances, treatment strategies, and skills required to run a successful weight management business. To that end, Robard Corporation is pushing for education and is providing an opportunity for networking and the exchange of essential knowledge.

This year’s Robard funded CME/CEU conference features 13 nationally recognized lecturers, including John Hernried, M. D., F. A.C. P., Peter Howard Jones, M. D., F. A.C. P., Timothy Church, M. D., Ph. D., M. P.H., and Judy Beck, Ph. D., who will focus on practical applications that are grounded in real-world experiences. Their presentations, in addition to the “Ask the Expert” breakout sessions, offer comprehensive information and hands-on experience. Attendees will walk away with new treatment skills and business management strategies for application the moment they return to their weight management centers.

“Education and networking can help physicians overcome the barriers to treating obesity in their practices,” says Robert F. Kushner, M. D., Professor of Medicine at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and a speaker at this year’s conference. “Educational conferences, like Robard’s Annual CME/CEU Conference, offer knowledge and training for managing overweight patients. And with that, physicians gain confidence in their ability to treat and change patient behavior. That is the key.”

Robard’s First Annual Continuing Education (CME/CEU) Conference sold out, so early registration is strongly encouraged. Dannemiller and the Center for Healthcare Improvement acknowledge an unrestricted educational grant from Robard Corporation in support of this CME activity.

Leaders of the ADHD Moms community include: Patricia Quinn, MD, a nationally recognized pediatrician who treated children with ADHD for more than 30 years and now focuses on ADHD education, advocacy and research, and Debbie Phelps, a middle school principal whose son, Olympic gold medalist swimmer Michael Phelps, was diagnosed with ADHD at age nine.

"'ADHD Moms' is the first online community of its kind on Facebook®. There, moms of children with ADHD can get credible advice and information from ADHD experts and fellow moms in similar situations," said Dr. Quinn. "It is a resource where moms can turn for the support they often need when raising a child with this condition."

The ADHD Moms community will include monthly feature articles, a series of podcasts addressing various issues related to ADHD, personal testimonials, interactive monthly polls, and a collection of other ADHD resources. The ADHD Moms community leaders will act as a resource for other moms, offering their insights on a wide range of important topics such as how ADHD impacts the entire family, back-to-school preparation, inheritability of ADHD, helping children build confidence, managing ADHD during the summer and holiday seasons and much more.

"One of the things I found to be most helpful in dealing with Michael's ADHD was getting practical advice from other moms in similar situations," said Debbie Phelps. "As an educator for the past 34 years and the mother of a son with ADHD, I'm looking forward to sharing my experiences and providing support to other moms raising children with this condition. I encourage all mothers of children with ADHD to visit www. facebook. com/adhdmoms (http://www. facebook. com/adhdmoms) and experience this valuable resource."

Research has shown that there are 32 million moms online today, and social networking sites are the highest-visited areas of the Web for this demographic. The location of the ADHD Moms online community makes it an easily accessible resource to moms already actively networking Facebook®.

From Beethoven to Bernstein: 2005 Bellingham Festival of Music is Luxury Living in the ‘Authentic’ Northwest

From Beethoven to Bernstein: 2005 Bellingham Festival of Music is Luxury Living in the ‘Authentic’ Northwest

World-class music, accommodations, spa services and outdoor recreation come together to make the perfect summer destination for the discriminating traveler.

Bellingham, WA (PRWEB) April 18, 2005

Unspoiled, relaxing, exhilarating--the Bellingham Mount Baker Region has it all for those looking for a lifestyle change or just an exceptional destination for summer. It’s all the beauty of the Hamptons without the traffic or crowds. It’s as wonderful as Woodstock, and it’s the relaxed side of celebrity living without the constraints of the paparazzi. In the Bellingham Mount Baker Region, luxury living includes outdoor activities such as golf on seven Championship courses. Golf Digest rated Bellingham the seventh best “golf city” in the nation out of 314 cities. Opportunities for mountain-biking, hiking, sailing and kayaking abound. Recently named one of the top “hippest, healthiest and most adventure packed” small cities in America by Men’s Journal, a variety of celebrities from the realms of film, television and literature make their homes in Bellingham (www. bellingham. org). The area is also home to the prestigious Bellingham Festival of Music, the internationally recognized musical celebration that includes classical, jazz, opera, and world music. The 2005 Festival with “music from the mountains to the sea,” runs August 6-21 and is just one example of luxury living in the ‘authentic’ Northwest.

Perfectly situated on Puget Sound and the I-5 Corridor, Bellingham is 90 miles from Seattle, just 50 miles from beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia. Whistler is only a plane ride away. Bellingham International Airport gives the discriminating traveler easy access to the entire region, making this unique locale perfect for that quick or extended luxury getaway. Reward yourself by taking in some of the most spectacular views of the San Juan Islands with a challenging hike up one of the many mountain recreation areas. Counter your nature to play hard with a relaxing luxury spa package from the Chrysalis Inn and Spa, which is “a respite for the body, mind and soul.” A waterfront hideaway on Puget Sound, but in walking distance to trendy, historic Fairhaven, the Chrysalis Inn and Spa, finds its inspiration in nature and combines it with Northwest sophistication and style. Pamper yourself with treatments guaranteed to work out all the knots—and only steps from posh and inviting accommodations fit for the celebrities and VIPs that have blazed the trail before you. Once you’re relaxed, enjoy evening bayside chamber and jazz concerts with the Bellingham Festival of Music or any of the 14 spectacular concerts by world-renowned artists at 7 different venues.

Now in its 13th season, the Bellingham Festival of Music, under the direction of famed maestro Michael Palmer, has built its reputation on attracting high-profile musicians, such as principal players from major American and European orchestras, in addition to stars like violinist Sarah Chang and piano virtuoso Garrick Ohlsson. Artists like former New York Philharmonic principal oboist, Joseph Robinson, who recently retired, return year after year to share their talents with the community and to relive the invigorating spirit that is found in the people and the beauty of the Bellingham Mount Baker Region. Mr. Robinson will be making his first appearance with the Festival since his departure from his 26-year tenure at the New York Philharmonic. He will spend his retirement in Bellingham, which consistently ranks in the top ten places in the United States to retire mainly due to its pristine geography, close proximity to Seattle and Vancouver, its university, and outstanding arts offerings.

The Festival commences on Saturday, August 6 with its Gala Opening that rivals any concert in any hall around the world. Opening night features the Bellingham Festival Orchestra, comprised of 40 symphonic “all-stars” from major American and European orchestras performing Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony. Metropolitan Opera soprano, Heidi Grant Murphy and the Bellingham Festival Chorus will make the evening extra-special with their performance of the Poulenc Gloria and Ms. Murphy will also sing selected arias.

The following day, August 7, will see the Festival’s signature “Music in the Mountains” concert with the Bellingham Festival Chamber Players, featuring two performances and a salmon dinner at Mount Baker’s fabulous White Salmon Lodge. The Festival’s Chamber Music Series will continue with concerts by the Bellingham Festival Chamber Players at Bellingham’s First Congregational Church on August 10, as well as at the beautiful outdoor venue at Semiahmoo Resort Golf and Spa on August 16.

For those more attuned to jazz, the FestivalÂ’s Friday Night Jazz Series includes SeattleÂ’s always-popular gypsy jazz group Pearl Django at the Village Green in upscale but laid-back Fairhaven on August 12. The following Friday, the Portland-based Patrick Lamb Band, which currently opens for Grammy Award winner Diane Schuur, will warm up the green at Hotel Bellwether on the Bay overlooking Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands with hot classic jazz.

On Wednesday, August 17, world music lovers can experience the Vancouver-based musical group Silk and Bamboo. An event not to be missed, their Bellingham debut, Ancient and Contemporary Music for Chinese Instruments, will feature a world premiere by Canadian composer Mark Armanini, commissioned especially for the Festival.

The Festival will also feature a concert version of Leonard BernsteinÂ’s opera-meets-musical-theatre Candide with a roster of young, up-and-coming singing talent, the 2005 Bellingham Festival Orchestra and Chorus at the Mount Baker Theatre on Saturday, August 13. If all of this wasnÂ’t enough, the Festival will also host a piano recital, pre-concert talks and its Family Concert, all leading up to the grand finale on Saturday, August 20 at the Mount Baker Theatre. The final concert will celebrate the Brahms Violin Concerto with violinist Elmar Oliveira.

All tickets can be purchased through the Mount Baker Theatre Box Office at 360.734.6080. Season tickets for the 2005 Bellingham Festival of Music will go on sale Tuesday, May 31. Individual tickets ranging from $20-$28 will be available starting Monday, June 6, and can be purchased over the phone or online at www. mountbakertheatre. com. MarketingExperiments. com Seeks Research Partners to Answer Questions About Online Video Marketing

MarketingExperiments. com Seeks Research Partners to Answer Questions About Online Video Marketing

How Valuable is Video for Marketers in a Web 3.0 World?

ATLANTIC BEACH, FL (PRWEB) August 12, 2006

In today’s world of YouTube, Google Video and MySpace, a camera and a little creativity can be used to promote anything from a Barbara Walters news clip to a homemade video about the “Evolution of Dance.” MarketingExperiments. com (MEC) is accepting 10 research partners for a comprehensive six-month study where MEC will explore the use of online video as a marketing tool.

“While marketers recognize the power and weight video is gaining with consumers and search engines, we still have a lot to learn about how online video can be used to market a product or service, drive free traffic to a Web site and increase page views per visit,” said Jalali Hartman, director of strategy for MEC. “Preliminary research for this study is giving us an exciting glimpse at the way online video may completely change the way companies market themselves online. We also anticipate this study will show us if video will become as crucial for search engine optimization today as search terms were in the 1990’s.”

Participants in the study will receive:

§ Design, hosting and production of one professionally produced video offer page,

§ Design, hosting and production of one professionally produced video trailer for distribution to major online video sites,

§ Design of one e-mail to introduce and distribute video, and

§ Research partnership recognition and study results featured in Marketing Experiments Journal.

MEC has a proven track record when it comes to discovering the most effective methods in Internet marketing. In a recently published study, MEC tested a series of carefully crafted e-mail messages in an attempt to recover abandoned orders for a large online service provider. Over a six-month period, the company was able to recover more than 4,000 lost sales. Beyond the nominal cost of sending the e-mails, these 4,000 sales were obtained without any additional marketing costs – dramatically increasing yield-per-visit and return-on-investment. MEC anticipates its upcoming online video marketing study will be just as insightful.

There is a one-time production and research fee for the applicants who participate in the MEC online video marketing study. To apply for the study or for more information please visit http://www. marketingexperiments. com/video-call. html (http://www. marketingexperiments. com/video-call. html).

HealthForumOnline Adds Online Continuing Education Course on Differential Diagnosis for Medical Disorders with Presenting Psychological Symptoms

HealthForumOnline Adds Online Continuing Education Course on Differential Diagnosis for Medical Disorders with Presenting Psychological Symptoms

HealthForumOnline (HFO) has added a new online continuing education (CE/CEU) course entitled Medical Masquerade: Psychological Disorders and Medical Illnesses to their growing library of nationally-approved CE/CEU courses for psychologists, social workers, counselors, and nurses. Health professionals are often focused on alleviating a patient's presenting symptoms without the benefit of true coordination of care among an interdisciplinary team of health professionals. As such, there are times when hidden, yet central, medical illnesses and medication side effects which mimic psychological disorders can go undetected and untreated. To facilitate a more informed diagnostic process and targeted intervention this online CE/CEU course discusses medical illnesses and their associated medication side effects that can "masquerade" as psychological disorders within several relevant disease models such as endocrine disorders, cancer, pulmonary ailments, cerebral/neurologic dysfunction, cardiovascular disorders, sleep disorders, immune system conditions, metabolic disorders, hematologic disorders, vitamin/mineral disorders, and infections. HFO’s CE/CEU courses are theory - and evidence-based and are fast, convenient and especially cost-effective as health professionals have free ongoing access to course updates beyond completion of the CE activity.

Philadelphia, PA (Vocus/PRWEB) December 08, 2010

HealthForumOnline (HFO), a nationally-approved (APA, ASWB, NBCC, PSNA, CA-BBS) provider of online continuing education (CE) for psychologists, social workers, counselors, nurses and other allied healthcare professionals announces the addition of a new online CE/CEU course, Medical Masquerade: Psychological Disorders and Medical Illnesses to their extensive online CE resource library by the nationally-renowned author, lecturer and clinical psychologist Dr. Patricia A. Farrell.

At first glance, diagnosing psychiatric and psychological disorders may seem like a straightforward process, with the art of it expressed in making the correct differential diagnosis among DSM-defined mental disorders. However, when you consider that many medical diagnoses, particularly those involving the central nervous system (CNS), immune system, and/or causal factors related to disturbances of the endocrine or metabolic systems, have psychiatric components, the diagnostic process suddenly becomes much more complex. Specifically, the presence of an undetected medical illnesses or an insufficient examination into the possibility that a medical illness either exists or is contributing to the psychological symptoms that are salient in the patient's initial presentation may result in an inappropriate or missed diagnosis by the mental health practitioner. In addition, the medications often associated with the aforementioned conditions may have side effects that are of a psychiatric nature and/or when multiple medications are taken, as is common among geriatric patients, the interaction effect can lead to the development of delusions, hallucinations, sleep disturbances, cognitive impairment and other changes in mental status.

"As the incidence of medical mimics of psychiatric disorders is high and certain patients are particularly vulnerable, clinicians should rule out these medical conditions before making a purely psychiatric diagnosis" notes Dr. Farrell. She adds that "diagnostic accuracy will not only allow for optimal treatment planning and outcome expectations" for both the clinician and the patient, but will also enable the clinician to avoid the legal and ethical issues that may arise in caring for patients who have medical illnesses that mimic psychiatric disorders.

Toward this end, Dr. Farrell’s new online CE/CEU course presents a more thorough understanding of the interplay of medical and psychiatric disorders. It progresses from a discussion of the prevalence of these disorders, provides ways to improve diagnostic assessments, outlines 9 psychological/psychiatric tests for mental status, mood, anxiety and psychosis, includes an overview of medical illnesses that may have psychiatric symptoms, and an outline of major categories of these medical illnesses with relevant statistics on the incidence of the illnesses and the usual age groups affected. Familiarity with the psychological assessments will enable the clinician to most accurately make the appropriate diagnosis which will guide the subsequent treatment.

This is the third continuing education course that Dr. Farrell has authored for HealthForumOnline. Formerly a medical consultant for disability determinations, and an educator at both the undergraduate and graduate levels as well as an instructor for medical students, Dr. Farrell’s two other online CE courses are related to Social Security Disability (SSD) report writing for mental health professionals; one focusing on adults and one focusing on children. In addition, Dr. Farrell has appeared regularly on such national TV shows as The Today Show, Good Morning America, The View, Court TV, CNN, E! Entertainment, Anderson Cooper 360, National Geographic, MSNBC, ABC World News, The O’Reilly Factor, Inside Edition, VH1, and Fox & Friends. She has been interviewed by national publications including the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Atlanta Constitution, The Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Working Women, Self, Real Simple, Men's Health, and Life and Style. She is currently the WebMD moderator for the Anxiety/Panic Board and has recently written two books, How to Be Your Own Therapist: A step-by-step guide to taking back your life and It’s Not All in Your Head: Anxiety, Depression, Mood Swings, and Multiple Sclerosis, published by Demos Health.

Psychologists, social workers, counselors, nurses and other allied health professionals can chose from HFO’s 19 categories of continuing education (CE) topics related to health psychology and behavioral medicine (i. e., ethics, cancer adaptation, women’s health, cultural diversity, eating disorders, reproduction/sexuality, aging/gerontology, pediatric behavioral medicine, assessment, chemical dependency, chronic/acute illness, clinical intervention, group therapy, infectious disease, long-term care, neuropsychology, pain management, spirituality, LGBT issues) containing 70 online CE courses that are fast, convenient and cost-effective. All HFO CE courses and supporting materials are available online or as downloadable, transportable PDFs. Participants print their own CE certificates. Lastly, HFO routinely updates our online CE courses, notifies customers of these updates and enables customers to review these updates for free online even after they have completed the CE activity and generated their CE certificate.

For more information on this course or a complete listing of titles in our online CE resource library, visit HealthForumOnline. com.

About HealthForumOnline:

HealthForumOnline (HFO) is approved as a provider of CE courses by the American Psychological Association, the National Board of Certified Counselors, the Association of Social Work Boards, and several state professional organizations, including the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation, and the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. HFO’s CE Program’s Advisory Committee and authors are comprised of over 60 nationally-recognized experts in behavioral medicine.
