Baptist Adds New Live Feature to Its On-Line Medical News

Baptist Adds New Live Feature to Its On-Line Medical News

Baptist has added a new monthly feature called Med News Live located at http://www. mbhs. org/mednewslive.

Jackson, Miss. (Vocus) October 13, 2009

This summer, Baptist created a new section on its website called "Baptist Medical News Network" at www. mbhs. org/mednews (http://www. mbhs. org/mednews). It's a place where all press releases, surgical videos, community seminars, employee news and other news regarding Baptist Health Systems can be stored. Now, Baptist has added a new monthly feature called Med News Live located at http://www. mbhs. org/mednewslive (http://www. mbhs. org/mednewslive).

"Each month, Baptist hosts community seminars at our facility with physicians and sometimes clinicians discussing various health topics. Since these seminars have a good attendance, we wanted to reach out to those who might not be able to get away from their home or office for a lunchtime or evening seminar. We wanted to bring health information to them with just a few clicks of a button," said Baptist Spokesman Robby Channell.

Channell continued by saying the hospital finds more and more people are seeking health information via the Internet. "Our Medical News Network page is a place to store all external communication information. We can upload everything from event photos to videos of medical procedures."

Launching this section of the website was timely. Baptist recently signed up with Twitter, launched a YouTube channel, and created a Facebook page. Videos are uploaded to iTunes as well. Channell said he is not sure what to expect from embracing social media. "Besides, what is 'social media' anyway?" Generally, it's a set of Internet tools enabling a group of people with common interests to connect with one another to learn, play, work, organize and socialize.

Baptist started by launching Women's Health Inside Out weekly podcast series in November 2006 with 157 listeners. In April 2009, there were 903 listeners.

"This podcast series was something unique we wanted to try since we were opening a new women's facility and rebranding our women's services," explained Channell. "It was just the tip of the iceberg where we focused on audio interviews with clinicians and then dabbled into video podcasts known as vodcasts. Now, we are uploading surgical procedures to YouTube as well."

For the past couple of months, Baptist has been hosting these live webinars. Baptist Public Relations Coordinator Rhonda McRae serves as the host for most of the sessions. She works with different physicians and clinicians to see what topics might be appealing to Internet viewers.

"This is something new for Baptist we wanted to test. A key feature of a webinar is its interactive elements," added Channell. "It's the ability to give, receive and discuss information in real time. People can email questions during the live broadcast."

The next live webinar will be Wednesday, October 14, 2009, featuring Clinical Psychologist James H. Brown, PsyD, talking about ways to deal with stress and tips for managing a busy lifestyle. Especially if you are a caregiver-to the very young or the very old-join us to find out ways to get help. To view, visit www. mbhs. org/mednewslive (http://www. mbhs. org/mednewslive) at 12:15 pm central standard time.

"In today's 'social media' climate, I come in to the office with my cup of coffee focusing on the topic I need to 'tweet' about for the day. What does Baptist need to communicate to its Facebook fans? Then, which surgical procedure can we upload to YouTube?" Channell concluded. "I wake up wondering how to use the World Wide Web to let people know Baptist is a resource for wellness and staying healthy."

Webinars for the rest of the year will be live at 12:15 pm CST on November 11 discussing "Merry Christmas to Me, Part 1: Botox and Injectable Fillers" with guest speaker Plastic Surgeon William Wallace, MD and on December 9 the second part of "Merry Christmas to Me, Part 2: Treatments for Varicose and Spider Veins" with guest speaker Cardiovascular Surgeon William Harris, MD.

DuPont Opens New Photovoltaic Technical Center in China

DuPont Opens New Photovoltaic Technical Center in China

Accelerating R&D and Technical Support to Meet Fast Growing Solar Market

Shanghai, China (Vocus) May 4, 2009

DuPont today opened a photovoltaic (PV) technical center at its China global R&D Center in Shanghai to support material developments for the fast growing crystalline silicon photovoltaic solar energy market. DuPont expects to nearly triple its annual photovoltaic sales to more than $1 billion in 2012.

This newly established facility contains three labs that focus on processes including cell to module manufacturing, PV metallization and PV module and reliability testing. The new PV technology center provides integrated research, development and technical support for customers in the PV industry in China.

"China is a key market for DuPont and will remain so, in spite of the global recession," said Douglas Muzyka, president -- DuPont Greater China. "The center will allow us to collaborate more closely with our customers in the PV industry, to provide technical support and to develop new materials technologies to meet the market needs. Through this partnership, we will be able to help create solar modules that run more efficiently, last longer and make solar energy a more viable alternative for everyone. This new technology center is a prime example of how DuPont is implementing its global strategies in China."

In 2008 the output of crystalline silicon PV cells and modules in China was about one third of the total volume in the world. In response to the rapid expansion of demand from the China market, the PV technical center, with evaluation facilities resembling its customers' production lines, can conduct more systematic product evaluations, troubleshoot issues more quickly and modify material properties for maximum performance. The center will additionally play a key role as a technical focal point, connecting the China market with other technical networks in the region and with the Experimental Station, DuPont's global R&D headquarters in the United States.

"DuPont Photovoltaic Solutions is accelerating its ability to deliver innovations that will improve the lifetime and efficiency of photovoltaic modules, while helping lower the cost per watt of photovoltaic modules," said Marc Doyle, global business director -- DuPont Photovoltaic Solutions. "DuPont has recently made significant investments in product development and capacity expansions for leading brands critical to photovoltaic cell and module manufacturing, including DuPont™ Solamet® photovoltaic metallizations, DuPont™ Tedlar® polyvinyl fluoride (PVF) films and the DuPont™ PV5300 Series PV of encapsulant sheets."

The China R&D Center is located in Zhangjiang High-tech Park, Pudong, Shanghai, one of China's national level technical parks dedicated to high-tech start-ups and research organizations. The total investment for the center to date is approximately $25 million. DuPont 2008 net sales in greater China were $2.07 billion. Initially, the facility housed 100 people when it opened in 2005 with a planned expansion of up to 400 scientists and technicians. The facility was designed to provide support for research, application development, training, technology transfer and licensing of DuPont technologies for China, Asia Pacific and global markets. The center also will provide an enhanced platform to enable technological exchanges and research collaborations between DuPont and leading Chinese and Asian universities and research institutes.

In addition to solar, DuPont is providing key innovative products for the wind, biofuels and fuel cells industries that advance energy efficiency and deliver alternative energy sources to reduce the global reliance on fossil fuels.

DuPont is a leading material and technology supplier to the photovoltaic industry with more than 25 years of experience in photovoltaic materials development and manufacturing. DuPont Photovoltaic Solutions represents the broadest portfolio in the solar energy industry, with more than 10 products critical to photovoltaic production, designed to work together to help increase the efficiency and lifetime of solar modules. For more information on DuPont Photovoltaic Solutions, please visit http://photovoltaics. dupont. com.

DuPont is a science-based products and services company. Founded in 1802, DuPont puts science to work by creating sustainable solutions essential to a better, safer, healthier life for people everywhere. CSL Behring Announces GameFaces™, a New Program to Promote Physical Activity in Patients with Hemophilia A

CSL Behring Announces GameFaces™, a New Program to Promote Physical Activity in Patients with Hemophilia A

Hemophilia patients, families take part in physical challenges as a fun, safe way to stay active and fit.

King of Prussia, PA (PRWEB) October 22, 2008

CSL Behring today unveiled GameFaces™, a family-oriented online initiative for patients with hemophilia A. GameFaces is designed to encourage real-life physical activity through customized challenges based on the individual's disease severity.

CSL Behring, the providers of the hemophilia treatment Helixate® FS (Antihemophilic Factor, Recombinant), developed GameFaces to inspire hemophilia A patients to participate in physical activities and also to allow them to feel connected to other patients with this serious bleeding disorder. Registering for the program now at www. HFSGameFaces. com will provide hemophilia A patients with the opportunity to win a Nintendo Wii™ game console prior to the program's launch in November. Nintendo Wii has been recognized as the next generation of video games and is known to inspire physical activity through games that require movement.

"Daily physical activity is important for young people with hemophilia A because it keeps their muscles healthy, their joints strong and it boosts their self-esteem," said Garrett E. Bergman, M. D., Senior Director Medical Affairs, U. S. Commercial Operations at CSL Behring. "GameFaces reinforces CSL Behring's commitment to promoting physical activity for this patient population. Leveraging kid-friendly technology, this program can inspire them to take on new physical challenges that are safe and healthy options for individuals with bleeding disorders."

Through their own GameFaces character, hemophilia A patients can participate in the program's challenges, which will be customized based on the severity of their medical condition. Challenges include both outdoor and indoor activities, such as playing a physically active video game like the Nintendo Wii, which patients can complete on their own or with family and friends. Participants track their progress by logging on to the program's website at www. HFSGameFaces. com. When a participant has completed a challenge, he or she will be entered into another sweepstakes where they will have the opportunity to win a Nintendo Wii game console. Children under 18 must have a parent's permission to join.

About Hemophilia:
Hemophilia is an inherited bleeding disorder characterized by prolonged or spontaneous bleeding, especially into the muscles, joints, or internal organs. About 17,000 Americans have hemophilia. The disease is caused by deficient or defective blood coagulation proteins known as factor VIII or IX. The most common form of the disease is hemophilia A, or classic hemophilia, in which the clotting factor VIII is either deficient or defective. Hemophilia B is characterized by deficient or defective factor IX.

About Helixate® FS
Helixate® FS is a recombinant factor VIII product indicated for the treatment of hemophilia A that offers convenient administration with a 2.5-mL volume diluent; no available factor VIII product has a smaller diluent size. The 2000 vial size requires a 5.0 mL volume diluent.

No albumin is used in the formulation or purification of Helixate FS, and its manufacture includes a solvent/detergent viral inactivation step. The most frequently reported adverse event is local injection-site reaction. Known intolerance or allergic reactions to constituents of the preparation is a contraindication to the use of Helixate FS. Known hypersensitivity to mouse or hamster protein may be a contraindication to the use of Helixate FS. In 2006, the FDA gave approval for Helixate FS to be stored at room temperature (up to 25°C, 77°F) for three months. The storage guidelines for the hemophilia treatment provide users with greater flexibility and simplify storage options

Helixate® FS is manufactured by Bayer HealthCare LLC for CSL Behring LLC.

About CSL Behring:
CSL Behring is a global leader in the plasma protein biotherapeutics industry. Passionate about improving the quality of patients' lives, CSL Behring manufactures and markets a range of safe and effective plasma-derived and recombinant products and related services. The company's therapies are used in the treatment of immune deficiency disorders, hemophilia, von Willebrand disease, other bleeding disorders and inherited emphysema.
