Oconomowoc SummerFestival 2010 on August 14th from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM finalizes their Schedule of Events. Operation KidsSafe, a judged classic car show, Old World Wisconsin Tornado Relief Fund, Coast Guard demonstrations and live entertainment are highlights of this year's events.
"We're so excited about this year's Festival as we have more than 50 events planned; there is literally something for everyone," said Laurel Whelan, Executive Director of the Oconomowoc Association, "The best of Downtown Oconomowoc will be showcased and we will focus on child safety and fun during this event."
Operation KidSafe captures a child's picture and fingerprints using a digital video capture device, digital ink-less fingerprint capture device and specialized software. The captured data is assembled and a quality 8 ½ x 11" printout is given to the parent. The parent can use the printout to provide to law enforcement anywhere in the world. No database is maintained so only the parent has this information. The Downtown Oconomowoc Merchants Association (DOMA) is organizing this event and it will be FREE for every child that participates.
"We'd also like to thank our sponsors: First Bank Financial Centre, ProHealth Care, Isabella's Children Fashions, Cornerstone Pub and Eatery, Amalia's Family Restaurant, and Dr. Leman, Setnicar & Piacsek, S. C. whose support allows us to offer this as a FREE service to local families," Whelan continued.
While waiting to have their Operation KidSafe identification recorded, children will be delighted to meet "Coastie" from the U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. "Coastie" is the "talking" Coast Guard Boat. The Coast Guard will also have its public relations trailer at the event.
"Our goal is to spread the message of Safety on the Water whenever possible. This allows us to send the safety message to both children and their parents," said Jack Myers, Flotilla Staff Officer-Dealer Visitor Program.
Donations to the Old World Wisconsin's Tornado Fund will also be collected during the downtown event. The Eagle tornado damaged several historic buildings, knocked down thousands of feet of fences and felled 2,500 trees at Old World Wisconsin. The museum was closed for five weeks following the tornado. Although operations have resumed, the landscape looks drastically different. "We're learning that insurance won't pay for everything," said Dawn St. George, museum director. "We will certainly need [the OWW Tornado Relief Fund] to get back up and running."
There will also be many other free activities that are also part of the Oconomowoc SummerFestival 2010 including: the Avenue Art Faire, Coast Guard Demonstrations, In-House Specials, Classic Car Show, Specialty Food Booths, Interactive entertainment for all ages, DJ & live music on two stages and, much more.
