Mary Ellen Hardcastle revisits 1950 Saudi Arabia in her book

Bloomington, IN (Vocus) October 26, 2010

As oil-producing countries control the global market today, people can only wonder how the world got into this situation. Former employee of the Arabian American Oil Company and author Mary Ellen Hardcastle gives readers an idea in her book. Released through Xlibris, I'll Tell You a Story of Saudi Arabia revisits the period when the oil industry in the Middle East was still in its adolescence.

Sweltering heat, desert sands, camels, and nomads—a welcoming sight in Saudi Arabia during the 1950s. In 1952, the lure of foreign travel took Mary Ellen Hardcastle Lorray to Saudi Arabia as an employee of the Arabian American Oil Company. There she joined a workforce that brought amazing changes to this country as oil production became a major force in global economics. Saudi Arabia was a very primitive land, but she and thousands of other American workers, as well as people from many nations and cultures, brought it to the modern century as the world’s largest producer of oil.

While stories of her twelve years there include everyday life in the camp, travels, and career challenges, they also tell of enduring friendships, the wonderful hospitality of the Saudi Arabian people, and her respect for their culture. She brings a new perspective to “Big Oil” with her gratitude for what it contributed to her life and to the lives of the Arabs who have become healthier, happier, and prosperous — thanks to the blessing of the country’s natural resources.

This book will be featured at this year’s California Library Association Book Exhibit in Sacramento, CA on November 12-15, 2010. For more information, interested parties may log on to Xlibris. com.
