9/11 Firefighter Receives Gift of Mobility from The Scooter Store
New York’s leader in power scooters and wheelchairs proud to assist Farmingdale-area volunteer.

As part of its Gift of Mobility program, The SCOOTER Store has presented a power wheelchair (http://www. thescooterstore. com) to John Iacono, a Farmingdale-area man recently faced with a mobility-related disability. The state’s leading provider of power wheelchairs and scooters, The SCOOTER Store worked with the local council of the Knights of Columbus to provide the assistance to Iacono.
Iacono, of Bohemia, is a former volunteer firefighter from the Rocky Point Fire Department on Long Island who volunteered and served during the 9/11 World Trade Center relief effort. He was presented the Gift of Mobility by The SCOOTER Store’s Levittown Store Manager Anthony Pepe and Mobility Manager Louie Colaiacovo. Executive Vice President of Operations Bill Sisoian and Regional Operations Director James McClellan were also on hand to make the presentation.
"Gifts such as scooters and power wheelchairs are truly a blessing for those with physical limitations, especially those who have served their fellow citizens and who now are in need of assistance themselves," said John Columbo, Grand Knight of the Levittown Knights of Columbus, a Catholic men's fraternal benefit society that renders mutual aid and assistance to the sick, disabled and needy. "This is a tremendous program allowing people in our community with limited resources the opportunity to overcome their physical limitations and realize the freedom that mobility can provide."
The SCOOTER Store has changed the lives of an estimated 11,000 individuals throughout the state since 2000.
Other charitable groups that have been the beneficiaries of The SCOOTER Store’s Gift of Mobility program include the American Red Cross, Hospice, Volunteers of America and the National Chronic Pain Society, as well as a host of churches, museums and foundations.
The SCOOTER Store created the Gift of Mobility program in December 2002 as a demonstration of the company's commitment to "Always Do the Right Thing!" Since its inception, the national outreach program has donated more than 400 power wheelchairs and scooters (http://www. thescooterstore. com), plus hundreds more manual wheelchairs, to community service organizations, enabling them to provide freedom, independence and dignity to those with limited mobility.
