Dr. Laura Schlessinger, AmericaÂ’s most popular radio therapist and author of seven New York Times bestsellers, including her current blockbusters The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands and Woman Power, will be the keynote speaker for Safe HarborÂ’s Fourth Annual Benefit, honoring popular child allergist Doris Rapp, M. D. The event will take place at the Glendale Hilton at 7:30 P. M. on October 7.

Dr. Rapp is the author of numerous books, including the New York Times bestseller Is This Your Child? and the 2004 release Our Toxic World. She rose to prominence when her appearances on Donahue, Oprah, Larry King Live, and other shows raised national awareness that hidden childhood allergies often contribute to behavioral problems.

Los Angeles-based Safe Harbor, the nationÂ’s leading nonprofit for non-drug mental health education, is perhaps best known for their work sponsoring the worldÂ’s largest web site on this topic at www. AlternativeMentalHealth. com. Safe Harbor emphasizes the role of underlying physical causes in mental disorders, such as medical problems, allergies, toxic conditions, and nutritional imbalances.

“We are so pleased to have two renowned champions for children at our benefit this year,” said Dan Stradford, Safe Harbor’s president. “Dr. Laura has been advocating for responsible parenting and the proper treatment of our youth for years through her writings, radio work, and The Dr. Laura Schlessinger Foundation.

“And Dr. Rapp has impacted a generation of children through her books, TV appearances, and clinical practice. She was the first to video children before and after being exposed to allergens such as foods and airborne substances, showing astonishing negative behavioral changes that some kids experience. After one Donahue show on which these videos appeared, she received 140,000 letters. She has saved countless children from being unnecessarily placed on psychotropic medication.”

Dr. Rapp will be the 2004 recipient of Safe HarborÂ’s Lighthouse Award, presented to men and woman who make outstanding contributions to humanity by forwarding truly safe and effective mental health treatments.

Also honored will be nutritional psychiatrist Melvyn Werbach, M. D., noted author and editor of seven texts, including such works as Nutritional Influences on Mental Illness and Nutritional Influences on Illness.

New Phone System Combines VoIP and Wireless Phones to Create a Wireless Office, Warehouse Solution for Business

New Phone System Combines VoIP and Wireless Phones to Create a Wireless Office, Warehouse Solution for Business

SotaComm is helping smaller firms boost productivity and mobility by taking advantage of the latest wireless and VoIP technologies to enable users to move freely throughout their facilities.

Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) June 26, 2008

SotaComm LLC (www. sotacomm. com) today said it has begun providing completely wireless communications and networking solutions to small and midsize businesses that are a radical improvement over anything previously available to these firms. SotaComm has released a completely wireless IP PBX and SIP business phone system and has added DECT wireless functionality to it's current PBX lineup so it organizations can have both wireless and wired SIP phones.

"We're a 'new age' kind of company that's packaging advanced, low-cost products and services for the business, non-profit, health care, municipal and education markets. Our latest innovation enhances our PBX product line-up with superb wireless mobility. Until now users were tied to their desk, now they are un-teathered and can roam the office freely without missing calls," said Gary Doan, CEO and cofounder of SotaComm.

"We originally designed a solution for a Monastery that had multiple locations with individual PSTN lines and phones. They had no way to transfer calls between locations. They wanted to have a unified communication solution that would give them all the features of a multi-location enterprise VoIP PBX, but had grown used to having cordless phones. They were seldom near a desk, so the traditional business phone system architecture with wired desk phones didn't fit their needs. As we were designing a wireless phone system for them, we realized that business customers that work in offices, clinics, hospitals, hotels, warehouses, supermarkets, or nearly any type of facility could benefit from a wireless IP telephony solution too."

The Solution:
SotaComm's objective was to create a digital wireless solution that would integrate with our complete line of IP-PBXs. We explored WiFi compatable SIP phones first, using traditional WiFi frequencies. Next we explored DECT technology which can be deployed as a multi-cell solution for handover between access points. It differs from Wi-Fi in that DECT technology can be deployed as a multi-cell solution for handover between access points. DECT is also designed specifically for voice, where Wi-Fi is designed primarily for data. Voice over Wi-Fi requires software applications for inter-cell handover and offers minimal power management which can result in lower talk and standby times. DECT, however, has native support for inter-cell handover and power management; offers a longer range than a typical Wi-Fi access point; and uses the 1.9 GHz frequency, cutting down on the interference experienced with voice over Wi-Fi, which uses the crowded 2.4 GHz frequency.

Sotacomm created a fully wireless solution for the Monastery's multiple locations that met their requirements for cordless mobility. The VoIP system also allows users to accept, originate and transfer calls to and from specific wireless phones, no matter which location the user is in. The users also have a full suite of unified communication tools like voice mail forwarding to email. The Monastery's locations did not have Ethernet wiring installed, so they also saved a considerable amount of money, not having to install CAT 5 cabling and network switching equipment in the buildings.

The Driving Trends:
The adoption of open standards and the shift toward software-based appliance solutions are two major trends in enterprise IT that drove Doan and his partners to found SotaComm in early 2007. SotaComm's state-of-the-art offerings deliver enhanced features, ease of use, and reliability for small and midsize organizations. "Appliance solutions are better options for these firms," said Doan, "not only because they cost less to acquire and operate, but because they change the way smart businesses utilize their communication network and provide them with distinct productivity and mobility benefits."

DECT, short for Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications, is a rather new standard in the U. S., but has been widely used in Europe. The Federal Communications Commission in 2005 added the 1.9 Ghz Unlicensed Personal Communications Services (UPCS) frequencies, allowing DECT 6.0 devices to be sold in the U. S. VoIP has been replacing public switched telephone network (PSTN) as the leading telephone connection method over the last several years. A leading telecommunications research firm, ATLANTIC-ACM, has said the fastest growing demand segment for VoIP will be businesses with 11-100 employees, which will see a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in revenues of 29.7% through 2012. According to a May 2008 report by WinterGreen Research, IP phone systems have "gained widespread acceptance in the marketplace…and demand is continuing to increase."

The Advantages of Wireless and VoIP:
SotaComm chose to partner with snom technology AG and integrate the snom m3 line of business DECT phones into the SotaComm IP PBX product lines. Each snom m3 base station can address 8 wireless phones as individual extensions or individual direct inbound dialing (DID) numbers. Each base station is connected to a single Ethernet connection that can handle up to 3 concurrent calls. The base station, whose range of 50 meters (164 ft.) indoors or 300 (984.25 ft.) meters outdoors, may be expanded considerably by up to six DECT repeaters.

VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) phone systems offered by SotaComm have more features and innovations than traditional systems, and can save most organizations up to 60% of the cost of proprietary systems, which until recently have been their only choice. SotaComm IP telephony solutions allow small to midsize firms to compete on a level playing field with much larger companies by providing them with true enterprise-class PBX phone systems, at 40-60% of the cost of proprietary systems. SotaComm's TB Pro includes enterprise and call center features, plus the easy to use "Heads Up Display" (HUD), which is a powerful companion to the office phone that runs on each employee's personal computer. It's a highly visual operator panel that allows "drag-and-drop" calling and transferring, as well as conference calling and is also a call center application. The HUD feature is also standard on SotaComm's TB Pro appliance.

About SotaComm:
SotaComm LLC, a name that derives from "State of the Art Communications," is bringing big-company benefits in open-source software and appliances to small and midsize businesses, initially in three key areas: (1) IP telephony systems, (2) unified threat management, including spam blocking and web filtering, and (3) router and firewall solutions. SotaComm, based in Chaska, MN, develops its own line of appliances. SotaComm plans to extend its line of appliances beyond best-of-breed communication infrastructure solutions to include storage, data protection, and archiving solutions, because it believes its customers can benefit from having an open, easy-to-use, low-cost, and unified communications and storage network. Fertility vs. Infertility… A Missing Link in the Pursuit of Fertility

Fertility vs. Infertility… A Missing Link in the Pursuit of Fertility

Why has infertility increased over the last decade, despite a proliferation of fertility clinics and alternative options? Everyone trying to conceive falls on a spectrum of life energy and intention energy that is somewhere between fertility and infertility. Knowing where one is on that spectrum is crucial. Even though highly experienced fertility doctors and practitioners are aware of this, most rarely assess or sufficiently treat this key fertility factor.

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) November 10, 2005

Why has infertility increased over the last decade, despite a proliferation of fertility clinics and alternative options? Is it simply that couples wait longer to start families, or is there more to it than that?

There are many fertility routes available today for couples trying to conceive a baby. More couples than ever utilize an array of Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART), both with and without complementary or alternative support. Other couples are trying to overcome medical limitations of various kinds that appear to be interfering with successful pregnancy. Despite this, a surprising number of couples are suffering because of having been told they have an unexplained fertility problem. What’s more, trying to conceive can be an expensive venture. It is therefore vital to optimize the chances of success, especially because conception assistance programs may not have anywhere near as high a success rate as hoped.

According to Laurie Morse and David Gruder, the developers of the My Fertility Success program, “Teaching women and couples where their energy falls on the fertility-to-infertility spectrum could be an important missing link in their fertility journey.” The step-by-step approach of the My Fertility Success program provides those trying to conceive with a powerful understanding of the difference between “infertility energy” and “fertility energy.” Specific exercises are then utilized to move toward fertility on the spectrum. Says Morse, “This approach appears to dramatically optimize the chances of successful conception and birth, no matter what technologies and/or alternative methods a woman or couple utilizes.”

Laurie Morse, L. Ac. is the director of Holistic Health Services in San Diego, CA. She has a Master's degree in Traditional Oriental Medicine from the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego. A licensed, board certified Acupuncturist, she possesses a rich knowledge of Chinese & Energy Medicine. She has specialized in fertility issues for over a decade.

David Gruder, Ph. D., is a licensed psychologist and the Executive Director of Willingness Works in Del Mar, CA. He was the Founding President of the International Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology and the principle author of the two-award winning book, Sensible Self Help.

Morse and Gruder are passionate about showing women and couples how to take personal responsibility for their fertility energy in ways that promote successful conception and birth.

Ideal vendors will: be able to drop-ship or accommodate retail size pick-ups, have a product that is in demand and being searched for by buyers, and supply quality digital images and product copy.

(PRWEB) August 2, 2005

Today, Wholesale Furniture Brokers has announced an open door to prospective wholesale furniture vendors. As part of their expansion strategy Wholesale Furniture Brokers (www. GoWFB. com) is seeking qualified vendors to partner with in order to offer their customers products that they cannot find anywhere else. Wholesale Furniture Brokers distributes orders through 40 outlets in the US and Canada and drives sales with a website that is visited more than 100,000 times a month. Even with solid sales growth over the summer months, Wholesale Furniture Brokers is taking time to plan for the impending rush of the fall furniture season.

In their quest to deliver maximum value to their website shoppers and Wholesale Buying Group members, Wholesale Furniture Brokers is searching for vendors who can deliver the value shoppers demand. Just like Wholesale Furniture Brokers partners with independently owned furniture outlets in each of their local markets, they are now looking to work with manufacturers who can benefit from their expertise in marketing furniture online. Dave Zirnhelt, President of Wholesale Furniture Brokers, clarifies by saying, “We’re hoping to connect with niche manufacturers. To name a few categories: producers of environmentally conscious furniture, contemporary designers, American made products, and the kind of ground-breaking new items that move markets.”

What qualifies a vendor to partner with Wholesale Furniture Brokers? Zirnhelt maintains, “The door is open. We will review all vendors that apply, however vendors who meet our requirements will be given priority.” According to Zirnhelt, ideal vendors will:

be able to drop-ship or accommodate retail size pick-ups,  have a product that is in demand and being searched for by buyers,  support coop advertising buys,  endorse a 5 – 10% Buyer’s Group discount,  supply quality digital images and product copy,  stand behind their products with consumer friendly warranties,  be available by phone full time and return messages promptly,  and have inventory in stock and ready to ship.

So why would a vendor want to partner with Wholesale Furniture Brokers? The obvious reason is more sales, but how does Wholesale Furniture Brokers generate orders for vendors? Since Wholesale Furniture Brokers has a vertical distribution strategy, sales are made through two channels. First, at the retail level online, Wholesale Furniture Brokers currently produces nearly a hundred orders a month. Secondly, at the wholesale level, Wholesale Furniture Brokers’ Buying Group has access to order vendor products at wholesale cost via Wholesale Furniture Brokers’ exclusive Broker Base. “The more a product sells on the website, the easier it is to get our Buying Group members to stock it,” notes Jeff Penner, Director of Marketing at Wholesale Furniture Brokers. He adds, “The outlet managers love being able to leverage the technology of the website to aid in their purchasing decisions. They don’t want to stock products that don’t generate a healthy ROI.” Wholesale Furniture Brokers has built what they call ‘The Broker Base’, located at www. GoWFB. com/wholesale-furniture (http://www. GoWFB. com/wholesale-furniture). The Broker Base, exclusive to both WFB Buying Group members and Registered Vendors, is accessible day and night to facilitate transactions between buyers and wholesalers. New applications for both wholesale buyers and vendors are accepted at the Broker Base – www. GoWFB. com/wholesale-furniture (http://www. GoWFB. com/wholesale-furniture).

Wholesale Furniture Brokers has carved a niche in their own right and their current vendors can testify to their proficiency. Doug Wasserman of Wasserman & Associates testifies, “With their experience in online marketing and their existing customer base, they have the ability to successfully launch new product offerings quickly and bring vendors of all sizes the kind of exposure that not only builds their brand but drives sales.”

About Wholesale Furniture Brokers:

With 40 furniture outlets throughout the US and Canada, Wholesale Furniture Brokers combines the convenience of online shopping with the comfort of local service. Founded in 2002, Wholesale Furniture Brokers has grown to offer a full line of furniture including best sellers in contemporary bedrooms, Italian leather living rooms, formal dining rooms, and discount pool tables. Unique to Wholesale Furniture Brokers, they offer free pickup from the local outlets and in-home ‘white-glove’ delivery.

Opening night features a special presentation in the back room video gallery of Los Angeles-based artist and archivist William Jones' feature "V. Rainbow Ghetto features over 40 works culled from an open call for artists to submit visual pieces exploring life, love and lust in the gay world. Equal parts pop, pomp and circumstance, the show includes local photographers Louviere and Vanessa, Steven Forster, Jen Shaw, David Halliday, M. J. Brown, Jennifer Shaw and Charles Lathem; painters Brad Caldwell, Perry Morgan, Skylar Fein, Edward Herbert, Todd Perley, Mark Bercier, Chris Slave, Scott and Melanie Guion, Peter Wood, Josephine Wallis, Kevin Butler and the obsessive comic adventures of local illustrator Roscoe. Artists from outside the region include photographer Michael Alago (NYC) whose solo exhibition Rough Gods will be presented at Farrington Smith in October, painter Kathrine Thompson (NYC), mixed media artist Lewis St. Louis (Raleigh) and 77-year-old self-taught artist, Martin Forman, an outpatient at Christian Huygen's Rainbow Heights Club, a Brooklyn, NY LGBT mental health community clinic.

For those inclined to revisit the last days of disco, the gallery has created The World's Smallest Disco, in which participants will have full freedom to dance the night away under the watchful eyes of both a playback camera and fellow gallery visitors.

An after-opening party including a drag show featuring "Rusty LaRue" will commence at Big Daddy's on the corner of Royal and Franklin (right around the corner) starting at 10 p. m.

Al Herr Creates Compelling Alternative Visions in New Book, the Rupturian Vision of Reality

Al Herr Creates Compelling Alternative Visions in New Book, the Rupturian Vision of Reality

In Rupturian Vision of Reality, overview of the three volume Last Call from Earth series, Al Herr lays out a new vision of reality, integrating up-to-the-minute thinking about evolution with theories of Intelligent Design. The book presents no less than a reimagined cosmology. In compelling detail, Herr describes the nature, origin and evolution of the soul; its physical component: soulstrings; its transfiguration into spiritual energy, and the basics concepts for soul's transplantation to another body.

New York, NY (PRWEB) January 24, 2007

In Rupturian Vision of Reality (http://www. lastcallfromearth. com/RVRcover. html (http://www. lastcallfromearth. com/RVRcover. html)), Al Herr lays out a revolutionary cosmology for the 21st century, creating a work that is literate, intelligent and a great science fiction tale. Drawing on his deep knowledge of philosophy and mathematics, Herr's book is accessible and compelling, using a laconic style and a fictional device to draw readers into big ideas.

The Rupturian Vision of Reality is an overview of the Last Call from Earth trilogy. In both the book and the series, Al Herr integrates the latest scientific and technological discoveries and lays out a cosmological perspective that makes possible teleportation, teleconsciouness, soul transplantation, transfiguration of the soul's spiritual energy into soulstrings, human cloning to perfection, genes micro engineering to optimize human evolution, and witnessing events of the past via recordings in the parallel dimension of reality.

Who are the Rupturians? The Rupturians are the ingenious device Herr uses to explain the details of his new cosmology. He conceives them as an advanced civilization that flourished for over 20 million years in an archipelago of planets that existed at the other side of the Milky Way, and that brought life to Earth.

Within the context of the Rupturian Vision of Reality, and with the technology of their advanced civilization, Al Herr develops the action trilogy Last Call from Earth (http://www. lastcallfromearth. com (http://www. lastcallfromearth. com)) -- a saga of biological, socio-political and spiritual survival at a global scale that starts on December 2012, and lasts for 280 years.

Currently available is volume one of the trilogy, "Biological Survival" (http://www. lastcallfromearth. com/StageIcover. html (http://www. lastcallfromearth. com/StageIcover. html)). Millions are affected by Circadian Rhythm Degeneration Syndrome (CRDS), which disrupts the normal functioning of the DNA. Without the guidance and control of the DNA, human bodies become physically, mentally and emotionally deformed in grotesque and repugnant ways. There is no cure for CRDS; the only solution is to transplant the souls of the affected people to healthy bodies created in lab environment. New procedures are based on the Rupturians' understanding of the nature of the soul, and using their most advanced biological technologies.

The Rupturian Vision of Reality forces readers to reexamine the most basic paradigms, including The Supreme Paradigm (God), The Anthropic Paradigm (Mission), The Holographic Paradigm (Nature of Reality), The Layers of Reality Paradigm (Perspective), The Deep Time Paradigm (Cosmic Evolution), The Soul Paradigm (State-Nature of the Soul), and The Continuous Renovation Paradigm (The Eagle's Plight).

Triumphant Child Proves to be an Ally for Parents in Uncertain Times

Triumphant Child Proves to be an Ally for Parents in Uncertain Times

Leading pediatrician and child development specialist have developed a cost effective practical guide for raising preschoolers

Asheville, NC (PRWEB) April 9, 2009

Parents were able to breathe a sigh of relief recently with the launch of a breakthrough book, The Triumphant Child: A Practical Guide for Raising Two, Three and Four Year Olds (http://www. thetriumphantchild. com) when it was successfully launched in Asheville, North Carolina.

Edited by leading pediatrician, Dr. Olson Huff M. D. (http://www. sixtysecondparent. com/_webapps/Dr%20Olson%20Huff) and child development specialist Nicole Rawson-Huff (http://www. sixtysecondparent. com/_webapps/Nicole%20Rawson-Huff), a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the book are being donated to the non-profit organization, Children First (http://www. thetriumphantchild. com/childrenfirst).

Their vision began in 1997 when they developed a set of radio messages called "The One Minute Parent." This popular program provided practical tips on raising children and information on child health and development and was successfully syndicated throughout North Carolina.

In September 2008, the pair launched a new parenting website called Sixty Second Parent, which brought together experts in the field of child health and development in online forums. Its success led to the development of their first book in a series called The Triumphant Child, which brings together some of the most knowledgeable resources on pediatric health, practical parenting, and child development from around the world.

This book essentially provides a roadmap for raising two, three and four year olds. With knowledge and advice from well-known experts and authors, practical tips and hints that can be accessed quickly, and stories and case studies from other parents, it offers real world practical advice for overcoming daily challenges such as routines, aggressive behavior, discipline, setting boundaries, sibling rivalry, eating difficulties, fears and anxieties, and general child health and development issues, as well as tips for celebrating the joys and successes of parenting.

Sara Ellington, co-author of The Must-Have Mom Manual and The Mommy Chronicles, says "Parents will feel fortunate to have The Triumphant Child at their fingertips every day as they tackle the challenges and celebrate the successes of raising children. I wish this book had been around when my children were two, three and four years old!"

Danone, PepsiCo, Coca-Cola and Nestlé Hold Strong Positions in the Latin American Bottled and Bulk Water Markets

Danone, PepsiCo, Coca-Cola and Nestlé Hold Strong Positions in the Latin American Bottled and Bulk Water Markets

Research and Markets (researchandmarkets. com/reports/c33303) has announced the addition of Zenith International’s latest report: Latin America Bottled and Bulk Water 2006 to their offering.

Dublin (PRWEB) February 22, 2006

Research and Markets (http://www. researchandmarkets. com/reports/c33303 (http://www. researchandmarkets. com/reports/c33303)) has announced the addition of Zenith International’s latest report: Latin America Bottled and Bulk Water 2006 to their offering.

Global bottled water specialist Zenith International is pleased to introduce its first ever report on bottled and bulk water in Latin America. This report provides an invaluable insight into bottled water trends of Central and South America, which include some of the biggest bottled water markets worldwide.

Across much of Latin America, bottled water is considered by many consumers as a necessity rather than a lifestyle choice, and consequently, the region boasts some of the largest bottled water markets worldwide, topped by Mexico and Brazil. Poor quality tap water coupled with a growing awareness of health and wellness issues have meant that demand for bottled water in many markets has risen sharply in recent years, with bulk packaged water driving consumption forward in many countries.

Despite the fact that the bulk packaged water format is widespread in the majority of Latin American markets, usage of electric water cooler units, which are integrally linked to this format in many other regions, is not well established. More often than not, coolers are used as a bargaining tool to secure a water delivery account and offered free of charge to high consumption clients. Nevertheless, cooler units are found throughout the region, and this reports looks at common practices and trends in their usage.

As yet the bottled water market in Latin America remains highly fragmented, and in the larger markets it is characterised by hundreds or even thousands of small-scale, local bottlers. This industry structure has come about with the predominance of purified over natural source waters, which offer much lower entry barriers resulting in the setting up and running of even the smallest scale bottling operations.

Nevertheless, the global bottled water multinationals, namely Danone, PepsiCo, Coca-Cola and Nestlé, are all present in the market and indeed hold prominent positions in some markets. Industry consolidation has been seen in recent years, with acquisitions providing a means of entry for the multinationals and in the past few months, there has been clear evidence of the emergence of branding policies taking an international bias, rather than a country by country approach.

Zenith International reports offer you the most reliable market figures and in-depth analysis of trends. This comes from a bottom up approach to the research process, and detailed discussions undertaken with industry players and industry suppliers.

The Latin America Bottled and Bulk Water 2006 report is broken down into 3 main sections:

A full market commentary with accompanying charts provides in-depth analysis of trends in such areas as consumption, water types, pack types, industry structure, pricing, leading national operators and groups, and water cooler units.

Comprehensive tables look closely at the Latin American market and each segment, covering – consumption, water type and packaging, leading retail and bulk bottlers, water cooler placements, leading cooler distributors, market indicators and forecasts to 2009.

20 country profiles (9 Central American and 11 South American) contain expert market interpretation and tables and charts. 84 bulk and retail water bottlers are profiled, with profiles covering company structure, sales volume, unit placements, marketing analysis and commentary. In addition there are a further 21 'mini' profiles covering smaller bottler companies, including structure and product range details.

Moon Travel Guides Celebrates the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day

Moon Travel Guides donates trees to American Forests, hosts a green travel pack giveaway, and offers eco-friendly travel tips and advice—including a list of top eco-friendly travel destinations compiled by Moon editors—to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Earth Day.

Berkeley, CA (PRWEB) April 20, 2010

Moon Travel Guides is celebrating the 40th anniversary of Earth Day on Thursday by teaming up with American Forests to plant 1,000 trees to offset its carbon footprint, and to aid in creating healthy forest ecosystems for every community.

Moon Travel Guides have always focused on independent travel, accessible and fun outdoor exploration, and eco-inspired travel. To further promote the spirit of Earth Day, Moon. com is featuring eco-friendly articles, guest blog posts by expert Moon travel guidebook authors, and hosting a giveaway for the chance to win an eco-friendly travel pack filled with Moon guides and green travel supplies.

To draw attention to Earth Day, and promote green travel, the editors at Moon have compiled a list of their top-ten eco-friendly travel destinations. They include the following:

Costa Rica (http://www. moon. com/destinations/costa-rica/discover-costa-rica)
Costa Rica more or less invented eco-tourism. One of the best ways to experience the country’s commitment to ecology is by visiting the vast network of national parks, wildlife refuges, and biological reserves on a Biodiversity Tour. Costa Rica is also home to nesting grounds for various species of sea turtles; there are several opportunities to volunteer and get involved with turtle conservation efforts.

Honduras (http://www. moon. com/destinations/honduras/discover-honduras)
Going green in Honduras can reward travelers with more meaningful experiences and deeper connections with the people and land they visit. Whether you seek out environmentally friendly lodges or community-based cooperatives as part of your green strategy, you’re sure to enjoy your stay.

Belize (http://www. moon. com/destinations/belize/discover-belize)
Home to the Western Hemisphere’s largest barrier reef, Belize excels at underwater conservation. The only way to see the amazing shapes, colors, and creatures under the waves is to go diving. If you have time for an extended stay, consider alternative travel options including volunteer, field research, and educational opportunities.

Peru (http://www. moon. com/destinations/peru/discover-peru/explore-peru/21-day-best-peru)
There is no better way to experience the people, land, and culture of Peru than participating in the homestay programs offered at Islas Uros, Llachón, and Islas Amantaní and Taquile, on Lake Titicaca. Participate in daily household activities such as tending the sheep or the quinoa crop, or helping with the weaving. Peru also has hundreds of volunteer opportunities for travelers.

Dominican Republic (http://www. moon. com/destinations/dominican-republic/discover-the-dominican-republic/explore-the-dominican-republic/the-best-the-dominican-republic)
An astonishing 25 percent of the Dominican Republic has been designated as protected area, including scientific reserves, sanctuaries, and national parks. From excellent bird-watching opportunities at Parque Nacional Valle Nuevo to one of the country’s most pristine and isolated beaches at Bahía de las Águilas, it’s difficult to imagine any nature lover not finding complete contentment on a Dominican trek.

Americans can also go green close to home. Here are some travel hot spots for thinking globally and acting locally:

Florida (http://www. moon. com/destinations/florida/discover-florida)
Florida has made great strides toward protecting the iconic and endangered manatee. These gentle “sea cows” are common throughout Florida’s waterways, their preferred place for wintering. See them (from a respectful distance) in the Everglades, Crystal River, and Homosassa Springs.

Maine (http://www. moon. com/destinations/new-england/maine)

New Gadget for 2006 Holidays: An "Angel" in Case of Emergency -- Portable Electronic Medical Profiling Service, Ideal for Aging Parents, Children

New Gadget for 2006 Holidays: An "Angel" in Case of Emergency -- Portable Electronic Medical Profiling Service, Ideal for Aging Parents, Children

Who says gifts can't be practical? Just in time for the holidays, Angel Technology recently launched a suite of mobile emergency medical information products, including Angel Key, a portable device that allows paramedics, firefighters or police officers immediate access to crucial medical information within seconds.

LOS ANGELES (PRWEB) October 24, 2006

Who says gifts can't be practical? Just in time for the holidays, Angel Technology recently launched a suite of mobile emergency medical information products, including Angel Key, a portable device that allows paramedics, firefighters or police officers immediate access to crucial medical information within seconds.

"We wanted Angel to be ready for holiday sales since we believe this is an invaluable gift for elderly family and friends, active travelers, individuals with pre-existing medical conditions or on medication, young children away from home and other individuals who may be prone to cognitive disorientation," says said John Bryant, president and co-founder of Angel Powered. "Angel speaks for you when you can't speak for yourself."

Angel is simple to carry and use. In the case of a medical emergency, critical personal health information can be accessed quickly by first responders. This can be done through a web browser, cell phone or it can be carried on a USB key, which plugs into any PC with no uploading - an innovative, patented, technology for jump drives. It gives first responders immediate access to the 14 critical facts needed in an emergency such as allergies, blood type, current prescriptions, etc. According to statistics from the National Institute of Health (NIH), approximately 93% of people treated in the ER have no medical data or history available. The ER does not have a system or efficient means of accessing a person's records or data in an emergency.

Prices for Angel's products range from $39.99 for online access to $79.99 for a bundled offering including web, cell phone, voice response, and the USB Angel Key. With all Angel products, Angel owners receive medical alert stickers to affix to drivers' licenses, passports, helmets, windshields, wallet cards and key fobs that direct first responders to find the owner's Angel. There are even temporary tattoos to apply for trips and camp that tell a healthcare worker what number to call in an emergency.

Angel is also designed as a tool to ensure the safety of pets. "We are often asked about the use of Angel for pets and it is a great gift for pet owners because it can be used in the same way, should a pet become lost or injured," said Bryant. "Angel is a gift of a life for a lifetime and it's not just for the chronically ill, it meets a wide range of needs," said Bryant.

The information carried on Angel is not part of a global network of databases of pharmaceutical, insurance or other companies with medical affiliations. It is not shared with clinics, HMOs, hospitals, banks or employers.

Angel is a product of Angel Technology that is headquartered in The Woodlands, TX. To learn more about Angel, please visit www. angelpowered. com.

Website Development, Marketing & SEO Firm Concludes that Home Is Where the Heart Is

Website Development, Marketing & SEO Firm Concludes that Home Is Where the Heart Is

SetSitesHigh builds a team of website design, development and marketing experts of work-from-home professionals throughout the United States as others turn almost exclusively to overseas providers.

Brooklyn, NY (PRWEB) February 6, 2006

SetSitesHigh has taken a unique approach to building a team of website design and development (http://www. setsiteshigh. com/) experts - rather than looking overseas, they looked at home.

"I love what I do, but I also love my family and I could not close my eyes to their needs," Anita Rubio, a copywriter and marketing consultant for SetSitesHigh (http://www. setsiteshigh. com/) explains. Faced with a choice between career and family, Rubio decided to put her career on hold and concentrate on her family.

Rubio, like many other professionals decided to put her career on hold while staying at home for reasons ranging from raising children, to nursing family members back to health, to taking a break from corporate America.

"There is an amazingly talented pool of SEO experts, marketing experts, website designers and writers right here in the United States and we wanted to tap into that pool," David Casey, VP, SetSitesHigh (http://www. setsiteshigh. com/) explained, "and we have been rewarded for it."

By compiling a team of experts from around the country, each working from their own home, SetSitesHigh (http://www. setsiteshigh. com/) is able to keep overhead costs down which in turn helps increase profits while still remaining competitive with pricing.

While many website design and development firms are reaching almost exclusively into the overseas market, especially in India and China to get cheaper labor and to increase profitability, many experts are commenting on a decrease in overall quality of services rendered.

The biggest concern, other than communication issues, is in the quality of the content used on websites, as well as content used to enhance search engine optimization.

"We find the best quality writing comes from native English writers," Casey suggests. "Though we know there are quality writers overseas, we prefer native writers that are often better equipped to use the subtleties of the language, because it is often the subtle things, the nuances, the smallest comments that can have the biggest impact on a consumer," Casey explains.

While many industry insiders bemoan the downsizing of website design/development and marketing firms as a result of outsourcing the majority of work to foreign based professionals, others have viewed this as an opportunity rather than a pandemic spelling the demise of the industry in the United States.

"Though we are a new firm, we see amazing potential in using the talents of work from home professionals," Jan Skawinski, SetSitesHigh (http://www. setsiteshigh. com/), enthusiastically reports.

"We know we are unable to compete in terms of price with firms based in India and China and other parts of the world, but we know we offer the highest quality for the dollar and that is where the difference lies," Skawinski explains.

For those who believe you get what you pay for, or being penny-wise and pound foolish is not a good business decision, firms like SetSitesHigh (http://www. setsiteshigh. com/) may offer the best of both worlds - quality and pricing.

The Internet has changed the way we transact business, communicate, learn and grow. For all the good the Internet brings it is always tempered with the negative. Some industrious men and women, however, view the negative as opportunities to turn a negative into a positive - the proverbial making lemonade when life hands you lemons.

While many professionals continue to grapple with deciding whether or not to put their careers on hold while staying at home for reasons often known only to them, firms like SetSitesHigh offers hope that it is possible to have the best of both worlds.

In the highly competitive field of website design (http://www. setsiteshigh. com/), development and SEO (http://www. setsiteshigh. com/), it will be interesting to see how SetSitesHigh fares against the competition, especially those armed with only foreign talent.

In a world where many root for the little guy and when push comes to shove most prefer to see local talent rise above the rest, SetSitesHigh may just have set their sites high above the competition.

ABOUT SETSITESHIGH

SetSitesHigh. Com, based in Brooklyn, New York is a website design, development and search engine optimization firm working with mostly small businesses and start-up companies.

UMass Boston Opens Venture Development Center to Expand R&D Activity

UMass Boston Opens Venture Development Center to Expand R&D Activity

Facility to Foster Faculty and Student Research, Partnering with Industry

Boston (Vocus) May 1, 2009

The University of Massachusetts Boston (http://www. umb. edu/) today officially opened a cutting-edge Venture Development Center (http://www. umb. edu/vdc/) that will significantly expand the university's research and development activity and provide entrepreneurial opportunities for faculty and students. The 18,000-square-foot innovation center will be the university's focal point for industry outreach and partnering, and will offer state-of-the-art labs and research and collaborative facilities for UMass Boston's faculty and students to pursue research and development that drives lasting change and creates new products and services that dramatically improve people's lives.

"The University of Massachusetts Boston Venture Development Center is the most recent evidence of our commitment to growing our research and reputation for excellence," said Chancellor J. Keith Motley (http://www. umb. edu/chancellor/). "The Venture Development Center will broaden and stimulate UMass Boston's research activities, attract top faculty and students, and invigorate undergraduate and graduate learning and teaching. Equally important, it will expand Boston's innovation economy by bringing it to the Dorchester waterfront."

Research activity at UMass Boston has increased at a rate nearly double that of other research universities in the area - growing 50 percent over the past five years. This expansion in research activity is helping to grow UMass Boston's role as an economic engine in the region, generating $558 million in total economic activity in fiscal 2008.

"The Venture Development Center adds a new dimension to the university's longstanding engagement with the city and commonwealth for social and economic innovation," said William Brah, executive director of the center.

The Venture Development Center has already identified four industry partners that will locate in the facility:
GeoMed Analytical (http://alpha. eeos. sci. umb. edu/~hannigan/) is a firm launched in the Venture Development Center by UMass Boston faculty member Dr. Robyn Hannigan, who chairs the Environmental, Earth, and Ocean Sciences Department. It is a custom analytical services and support company devoted, in part, to advancing innovative analytical techniques for quantification of metals in biological samples in medical sciences. Anthurium Solutions Inc. (http://www. anthuriumsi. com/) is an emerging software company that is building an innovative platform for matching continuous digital work with virtual workers globally. Anthurium Solutions employs a UMass Boston intern and seeks collaborations with UMass Boston health care students and faculty. DPixel (http://www. dpixel. it/IT/HomePage), based in Milan, Italy is a venture advisor and manager of an investment fund focused on digitalization of content and processes. DPixel's portfolio companies are seeking strategic partners in the United States, and DPixel will offer internships to UMass Boston business students interested in a career in venture capital. Symmetric Computing (http://www. symmetriccomputing. com/index. html) is a Massachusetts-based high-performance computing start-up company developing advanced supercomputing at breakthrough performance and price for the life sciences industry. The firm seeks collaborations with UMass Boston scientists and will offer internships to UMass Boston computer science students.

"I want to congratulate UMass Boston on the opening of the new Venture Development Center. The spirit of discovery and innovation is the backbone of this new facility," Mayor Thomas M. Menino said. "Not only will it attract start-up biotech, life sciences, and other research initiatives to right here in Dorchester, it will also generate spin-off economic development benefits for Boston and the surrounding neighborhoods."

In addition to the current partners, the Venture Development Center is working to launch the Center for Personalized Cancer Therapy with Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center later this year. The center will work to develop affordable diagnostic tests that match a disease with therapy for community hospitals.

Sensaris Introduces 6 Axis MoveIt Sensor for Wireless 3D Motion Applications

Sensaris Introduces 6 Axis MoveIt Sensor for Wireless 3D Motion Applications

It's your body that is alive and kicking, not your mobile phone. The pocket size Bluetooth enabled Senspod tracks motion sensing information in real time.

Crolles, France (PRWEB) October 16, 2009

Miniature gyroscopes and accelerometers chips are increasingly integrated into electronic devices, but accurate motion sensing is still mostly reserved for professional applications like elite athletic monitoring, physical rehabilitation, aerospace or robotics. There are very few commercially available systems leveraging the benefits of real time analysis of movement and Web 2.0 technologies. To fill this gap, Sensaris (http://www. sensaris. com (http://www. sensaris. com)) is introducing the MoveIt Senspod, a 6 axis wireless wearable motion sensor.

The sensor is one of the smallest commercially available wireless unit packed with high sampling rate 3 axis accelerometer, 3 axis gyroscope and GPS. The built-in Bluetooth EDR radio makes it the ideal mobile phone or PC companion.

Its credit card size and light weight enable a wide spectrum of daily life uses as it leaves complete freedom of movement while simultaneously measuring speed, acceleration, rotation, twist, distance and position. Place the MoveIt Senspod on objects or on your body to optimize your own sports performance, explore augmented reality or challenge your friends in new urban games.

Data exploitation for online/offline analysis, coaching or even social network based challenges is done using web technologies. The provided API and platform independent SDK lets programmers develop innovative consumer applications in their favorite environment to quickly bring them to market. By just requiring a Bluetooth serial profile, the MoveIt is compatible with a very wide installed base of mobile devices.

"Our customers have been telling us for several years that they were looking for comfortable, easy and fun ways to enhance their experience. The combination of the MoveIt Senspod with our SensNet real time communication platform opens up exciting sensor uses not only in gaming, sports or fitness but also in high growth segments such as gesture recognition or ambient assisted living."

Sensaris is a start-up company focusing on the Internet of Things. It provides mobile centric solutions based on geolocation, wireless communication and low power. Its products and software are used for sports, health/wellness and connected urban applications.

WNBA Kicks-off Partnership with Nothing But Nets

WNBA Kicks-off Partnership with Nothing But Nets

Congressional reception, Mystics game to feature African malaria prevention initiative.

Washington, D. C. (Vocus) June 14, 2007

Nothing But Nets--a grassroots campaign to prevent malaria--announced today that the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) is joining the global effort to raise awareness about malaria, a leading killer of children in Africa. WNBA president Donna Orender and Washington Mystics president and managing partner Sheila Johnson will formally launch the league's partnership with Nothing But Nets during a reception hosted by Congressman Donald Payne (D-NJ), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Africa and Global Health, on Capitol Hill tonight, June 14, 2007.

"We are pleased to team up with the strong female leaders at the WNBA to help raise awareness about malaria," said Kathy Bushkin Calvin, Executive Vice President of the United Nations Foundation, a founding partner of Nothing But Nets. "Every day 25 million pregnant African women risk severe illness and harm to their unborn children from a malaria infection. By working together with organizations across the globe, we can help spread the word that malaria kills and nets save lives."

The partnerships' first event will be an in-arena event hosted by the Washington Mystics on Friday, June 15, 2007, at the Verizon Center in Washington, D. C. At the game, players, and fans will come together to combat malaria together through pre-game and half-time presentations, auctions, and contests.

Nothing But Nets also announced today that it teamed up with The United Methodist Church to visit local hospitals, clinics, and orphanages in Zimbabwe to better understand the impact of malaria and to distribute bed nets to those in need. From June 9 to 15, 2007, Nothing But Nets joined the Baltimore-Washington Conference of The United Methodist Church on their bi-yearly visit to their partner church, the Zimbabwe Episcopal Area of The United Methodist Church, in Mutare. Also, during this trip, Nothing But Nets worked with local community health workers to support the training of over 200 local pastors to help them spread the message to their home congregations and communities that malaria kills and nets save lives.

United Methodist Bishop John R. Schol will share highlights from the Zimbabwe trip during the faith leaders' lunch on Thursday, June 19, 2007, at the Metropolitan United Methodist Church in Washington, D. C.

While malaria has been eliminated in the United States, each year the disease kills one million people and has in inordinately high impact on children. Yet, there is an easy, affordable way to prevent the deadly disease--sleeping under insecticide-treated bed nets stops mosquitoes from biting. A $10 donation to Nothing But Nets sends a bed net to an African family and educates them on its use. Since the Campaign was created less than a year ago, Nothing But Nets has engaged over 55,000 people in a discussion about malaria and delivered more than $7 million to put nets over the beds of families throughout Africa.

About Nothing But Nets
Nothing But Nets is a global, grassroots campaign to save lives by preventing malaria, a leading killer of children in Africa. Inspired by Sports Illustrated columnist Rick Reilly, thousands of people have joined the Campaign which was created by the United Nations Foundation. Founding campaign partners include the National Basketball Association's NBA Cares, The People of the United Methodist Church, and Sports Illustrated. Other partners include VH1, The Mark J. Gordon Foundation, AOL Black Voices, The Wasserman Foundation, Major League Soccer's MLS W. O.R. K.S., the Women's National Basketball Association, and Rotarians' Action Group on Malaria. It only costs $10 to provide an insecticide-treated bed net that can prevent this deadly disease. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation matches donations dollar for dollar. Visit http://www.
