MBAs Going Green: Marshall Goldsmith School of Management Introduces New 'Sustainable Management' Program
Students learn value of "triple bottom line" - profit, people, planet.

Alliant University's San Diego campus has just announced the addition of a new program to its Marshall Goldsmith School of Management – the “Sustainable Management” concentration (the first in San Diego). The program was developed to reflect the changing focus of business from short-term financial gains to long-term appreciation of economic, social and natural capital. This emphasis has led to what is often called the "triple bottom line" – profit, people and the planet.
This revolutionary change in the outlook of business is creating opportunities for entrepreneurs who create new businesses, services and products that enhance sustainability and improve people's lives. According to an Arthur D. Little survey of 481 companies, 95% of responding executives counted sustainable development as important to their business future.
The Sustainable Management Concentration is offered to students in the Goldsmith School's MBA and MIBA programs and includes three new courses: sustainable management, sustainable marketing, and environmental management reporting. These courses reflect the professional practice model that the Marshall Goldsmith School emphasizes.
Classes involve extensive research, discussion, case studies and problems from around the world. The very international student body and small courses found at Alliant University's San Diego Campus prepare students to lead and prosper in the increasingly competitive global marketplace.
Alliant's Sustainable Management program is led by a team of world class, award-winning professors:
David Bainbridge, MS, Associate Professor brings more than 30 years of experience in sustainable management into the classroom, with experience working for a wide range of clients, agencies and organizations. His books and more than 300 papers highlight his hands-on approach to problem solving. He has received awards for his work in planning, energy conservation, and solar energy research. His research interests include environmental accounting, sustainable resource management and the use of sustainability indicators.
Ute Jamrozy, PhD, Assistant Professor has conducted research and taught in the fields of sustainable tourism and marketing for more than 10 years. Her research interests focus on consumer psychology, sustainable marketing and communications. She led sustainable tourism development projects in North Carolina and Texas and recently focused her work on modeling sustainable marketing for urban areas.
Greg Lorton, DBA and PE, Adjunct Faculty Member is environmental business line team leader in the Navy Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Program Management Office in San Diego. He manages 21 project managers handling environmental cleanup projects at five major closed bases (Hunters Point Naval Shipyard, Treasure Island Naval Shipyard, Mare Island Naval Shipyard, Marine Corps Air Station El Toro, and Marine Corps Air Station Tustin), plus several smaller closed Navy installations. Greg has 13 years of chemical process design experience and 21 years of environmental management experience, including projects to develop environmental accounting and management systems for a number of private and public organizations.
The sustainable management concentration is currently offered on Alliant University's San Francisco campus at the Presidio School of Management. It will also be offered on Alliant University's Mexico City campus beginning in the fall of 2007. Mexico City students will have the chance to collaborate on sustainable projects with the famed International Renewable Resources Institute-Mexico, a nonprofit that works with other local, national and international organizations.
