Fox Sportscaster James Brown Receives Sam Lacy Awards by Urban League
FOX Network sportscaster James Brown will receive the Sam Lacy Award at the Greater Washington Urban LeagueÂs 7th Annual Celebrity Tournament and Banquet on Tuesday, September 20.

FOX Network sportscaster James Brown will receive the Sam Lacy Award at the Greater Washington Urban LeagueÂs 7th Annual Celebrity Tournament and Banquet on Tuesday, September 20. The tournament will be held from 7 a. m. to 4 p. m. at Renditions Golf Course in Davidsonville, MD.
Brown, affectionately known as "JB," has been the co-host of "FOX NFL Sunday" since its inception 10 years ago. Previously, Brown worked 10 years for CBS Sports, after beginning his career here in his hometown of Washington, D. C.
The late Baseball Hall of Fame sports writer Sam Lacy was a columnist for Afro-American newspapers. Mr. Lacy used his role as a journalist to push for the integration of Major League Baseball and equal opportunities for minorities in sports.
The LeagueÂs award is given annually to an individual in sports journalism, who not only exemplifies professional in the career field but who is committed to civic and humanitarian endeavors. Brown has been involved in activities to support Darrell GreenÂs Youth Life Foundation, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and March of Dimes, among others.
Other highlights of the tournament include a special appearance by Omarosa Manigault Stallworth, formerly of "The Apprentice" TV show.

Proceeds benefit the programs of the Greater Washington Urban League, founded in 1938. The League is one of more than 100 affiliates of the National Urban League and a member of the United Way of the National Capital Area. Serving more than 60,000 persons annually in the Washington metropolitan area, the GWUL is a nonprofit social services and civil rights organization with programs in education, employment and training; housing and community development; and aging and health services.
