Orion Health™, a leading provider of clinical workflow and integration technology for the healthcare sector, announced today that Chatham County Safety Net Planning Council (CCSNPC) of Savannah, Georgia has gone live with their Health Information Exchange (HIE). CCSNP leverages both Orion Health’s extensive experience with HIEs which globally involve over 35 million patients, and the expertise of the Initiate® Catalyst Patient Registry software from Initiate, an IBM Company. The combined solution delivers a complete and accurate view of a patient’s health records.
The Chatham County Safety Net Planning Council is addressing the health care needs of the uninsured and underinsured with the goal of improving health outcomes in the county through ongoing collaboration of its health providers. CCSNPC recognized that a critical piece in achieving this goal was the establishment of a health information exchange. Beginning with a pilot project, that will serve more than a quarter of a million people, the goal of the HIE is to extend participation to all regional healthcare providers in southeast Georgia.
Paula Reynolds, MD, MPH, CCSNPC’s Executive Director says that ensuring the electronic health record (EHR) obtained matches the patient being seen seems obvious, but with the explosion in electronic health data it’s increasingly important that this happens quickly and accurately.
“Assurance that the record you are viewing matches the patient you are treating is essential to ensuring optimal care. Automation of this process reduces the potential for error and decreases the time healthcare workers must spend searching for data,” Dr. Reynolds concludes.
Paul Viskovich, President Orion Health North America states, “Orion Health is focused on delivering the best solutions we can to our clients. Worldwide, Orion Health is a trusted leader in the EHR/HIE market, implementing health information communities involving over 35 million patients with hundreds of thousands of active users. We believe this combined solution provides the highest available accuracy, eases the purchase and service process for the customer by consolidating the solution with one vendor, and lowers the overall cost of implementing health data exchange solutions.”
“By leveraging Initiate® technology, Orion Health is providing its customers with technology that addresses patient resolution and patient search, a complex and highly necessary component for health information exchange,” said Sean Cassidy, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Healthcare, Initiate, an IBM Company.
Orion Health and Initiate’s agreement will provide customers like CCSNPC, with Initiate’s proven patient resolution and patient search technology integrated with Orion Health’s unparalleled secure and reliable Concerto physician portal, creating a single view of data. The new technology will ensure physician access to electronic health records for the correct patient and that a single, trusted and complete version of the record is delivered in real time for effective health information exchange within hospitals, clinics and across the healthcare community.
