Building A Pond In A Day, Can You Dig It

Pond professionals will be showing local residents how to build a pond at Build-A-Pond Day At The Indian Valley YMCA - April 16, 2005

Harleysville, PA (PRWEB) April 14, 2005

Pond professionals are digging into their expertise and sharing it with the community at “Build-A-Pond Day” on Saturday, April 16, 2005 from 9:00am – 5:00pm at the Indian Valley YMCA in Harleysville, PA. Local residents will have the opportunity to spend the day learning the step-by-step process for building a complete pond system. Participants are welcome to wear their work boots, bring a shovel and dig in.

“Build-A-Pond Day” is sponsored by Fins, Feathers, Paws & Claws and PondWorks. The cost is $25.00 per person. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Call Fins, Feathers, Paws & Claws at 215-256-1455 to sign up.

Building a pond, the community and a sense of camaraderie is the focus of this educational workshop. The full day of activities will include marking out the pond area, excavating the soil, laying the liner, installing the components, placing the rock and accenting the pond with landscaping.

“A lot of people would love to have a pond of their own, but they have no idea where to start,” said Tom Herron, owner of Fins, Feathers, Paws & Claws. “This is the perfect opportunity for them to learn that it isn’t that difficult.”

Herron said it is also a chance for people of all ages at the YMCA to learn about the importance of a well balanced ecosystem where fish and plants thrive naturally.

“Everyone at the YMCA is excited about this project,” said Betty Linko, YMCA Branch Executive. “It is the perfect way for us to kick off an introduction to Arbor Day for the kids. We plan to use this pond to help us educate about the importance of caring for the environment.”

Brian Buchholtz, owner of PondWorks, said this is one way he can contribute to the community. “Ponds are an example of the balance of nature and art. Through this project we believe we can show this balance to the community for years to come.”
