The grant, which is an increase on last yearÂ’s allocation, was welcomed by Defence Minister Willie OÂ’Dea and the Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children, Tim OÂ’Malley last week.

Minister O’Dea said that this allocation, "will have a major practical impact on the successful clubs who have received funding and will give them and the entire community a significant boost.” "This investment by the Government into Limerick’s sports facilities is making a real difference on the ground which is benefiting young and old,” he said.

Minister OÂ’Dea also stressed that he will lobby Minister OÂ’Donoghue vigorously on behalf of the unsuccessful clubs to ensure funding is made available for them under the scheme when the next phase of the Sports Grants Programme is being announced in the coming months.

Welcoming the allocations, Minister OÂ’Malley said that they are a recognition of LimerickÂ’s sporting excellence. http://www. limerick. com (http://www. limerick. com)
