Southeastern Council of Foundations Names 2007 Hull Fellows
The Southeastern Council of Foundations (SECF) has named the prestigious class of 2007 Hull Fellows. The only program of its kind in the country, the Hull Fellows Program was established to nurture, inspire and strengthen the Southeast's next generation of emerging leaders in philanthropy.

The Southeastern Council of Foundations (SECF) has named the prestigious class of 2007 Hull Fellows. The only program of its kind in the country, the Hull Fellows Program was established by the SECF in 2000 to nurture, inspire and strengthen the Southeast's next generation of emerging leaders in philanthropy. The selective program benefits younger and newer foundation staff and trustees who have demonstrated strong leadership capabilities in their careers and their communities.
Candidates may only be nominated by the Executive Director or Board of their foundation. Fellows must be either staff or a Trustee and are selected for their leadership potential. Each class is composed of an intentionally diverse mix of participants. Since 2000, almost 140 new leaders have completed the training.
Southeastern Council of Foundations' President, Martin Lehfeldt, points out: "We are proud to see so many Hull Fellows sprinkled throughout the nonprofit sector. SECF's unique program to nurture some of the best and the brightest newcomers in our field is a major contribution to ensuring that philanthropy in the South will continue to be led by thoughtful professionals and volunteers."
The program will enable Hull Fellows to develop an understanding of the historic roots and traditions of philanthropy; gain new perspectives on philanthropic issues; explore the challenges and opportunities particular to southern philanthropy; hone personal and professional development with an emphasis on experiential learning; and form new, collaborative relationships with their southeastern peers.
The cornerstone of the Hull Fellows Program is an interactive summer conference in August. The program concludes with a special session at the Annual Meeting of the Southeastern Council of Foundations to be held at The Homestead in Hot Springs, Virginia, November 14-16, 2007. The program is named in honor of Robert H. Hull, who served as SECF's CEO for 19 years, retiring in 1997.
