The patient safety film, "Things You Should Know Before Entering the Hospital" has won a TELLY award in the 26th Annual Telly Awards competition. With a record 12,500 entries from all 50 states and numerous countries, the receipt of this year's Telly Award for the production team’s first entry is notable.
"Things You Should Know Before Entering the Hospital" was independently produced by Four Leaf Enterprises in response to reports that close to 100,000 people die each year due to medical errors in the hospital. Enlisting the help of experts in the patient safety industry, the film team -- consisting of documentary filmmaker and director, Rick Erwin; documentary filmmaker and editor, Ernie Schubert; executive producer/writer, Betty Hoeffner; and producer/writer, Lynn Sanders -- created a film to help save lives by educating people how to take a proactive role in their healthcare.
Produced as a solution-based film, the story educates viewers using an entertaining form of humor narrated by comedian and Emmy-award winning actor, Ben Hollis. The film, available at http://www. patientsafetyvideo. com (http://www. patientsafetyvideo. com), contains important information on how a patient can help avoid medical errors addressing questions from how to avoid wrong-site surgery to why it is imperative to have an advocate with you 24/7. It also stresses ways to help patients avoid infection and medication errors since 2 million people contract infections in the hospital resulting in some 20,000 deaths.
"We are honored to have been selected by the Telly Awards this year," said film director, Rick Erwin. To win our first festival entry is great! It's another credit to what others are saying about the important message of this film."
