Carus Corporation (http://www. caruschem. com) announced that effective 11 December 2006, Carus Phosphates, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Carus Corporation, has acquired the business and assets of CalciQuest, Inc., Belmont, NC, a leading manufacturer and marketer of phosphate chemicals for the municipal market in the US. "This acquisition represents our commitment to strengthen and expand the phosphates market in North America," stated Inga Carus, President and CEO of Carus Corporation (http://www. caruschem. com).
John M. Walsh III, a founder and the principal shareholder of CalciQuest, Inc., endorsed the purchase of the business and their intentions to further strengthen its North American phosphates business, as a positive course for the future of the business that CalciQuest, Inc. has successfully built over the past 15 years.
Paul Carus, President of the new Carus Phosphates, Inc., expressed great optimism for the future of the company based on planned marketing efforts to grow the business, and on the expansion of its regional presence into the southeastern US. "The benefits that will be realized in the marketing and manufacturing of these products should prove to be very beneficial to our customers through the expanded customer and sales service, and the benefit of two strategically positioned manufacturing locations," he said.
In acquiring the businesses from CalciQuest, Inc., Carus Corporation (http://www. caruschem. com) is also acquiring a polymer product line that will complement its existing core business of phosphates as well as the permanganate business upon which Carus Corporation was originally founded in 1915.
"We believe that this acquisition will position Carus Corporation as the premier provider of chemicals used in the drinking water industry," said Bill Mersch, General Manager of Carus Phosphates, Inc.
