ACI (http://www. acieap. com), a world-wide specialty benefit corporation headquartered in San Diego has been recognized for providing a healthy workplace environment that fosters psychological well-being among employees. The company was named a California finalist after interviewing with a committee from the American Psychological Association. The Psychologically Healthy Workplace Award (PHWA), which is presented annually in each state to recognize the efforts of businesses that demonstrate concern for their employees’ psychological well-being.
A company touting a positive work environment isn’t new, but following through with such claims isn’t as common. Onsite daily yoga, family-friendly policies and a unique system of bonuses are only a few of the features described in the nomination. As one employee explains, “ACI is the first place I have ever worked where I do yoga each morning, get paid extra for updating my job description and can take time off to attend my children’s special events.”
ACI entered the specialty benefit field as an Employee Assistance Program (http://www. acieap. com) (EAP) provider in 1983. Under the leadership of Dr. Ann Clark, the company has expanded globally with EAP, Work/Life, Wellness and other products. ACI was first ranked as one of the nation’s Top Ten EAPs by Business Insurance magazine in 2002, and again in 2005. Clients range from the Fortune 500’s Mercury Insurance to a local six-person law firm.
“When I founded ACI,” says Clark, “I wanted to build services that provided unique corporate assistance programs and at the same time create a workplace environment that motivated employees to excel. Helping employees to balance work and family helps them to be more productive and happier individuals -- benefiting everyone.”
“At ACI we not only sell the solution, we use it ourselves,” Dr. Clark adds.
