Pawtucket, RI (PRWEB) June 28, 2006

If'n Books is proud to introduce The Cancerpants Journal complete with The Cancerpants Superfuntime Kit! A funny and irreverent, yet sophisticated take on the journal for the loved one with cancer.

The Cancerpants Journal features an illustration by Grammy-nominated artist Jesse LeDoux depicting a quirky little guy opening himself up to make a cancerous black cloud leave him forever. Screenprinted by hand in Providence, Rhode Island, the journal measures 6x8", and has 80 white pages. The included kit contains a pencil, tattoo, sticker, postcard and journal tips as an inspirational bonus. The clever, FDA-approved temporary tattoo image makes it appear as if the cancer is escaping directly from the wearer. The sticker features a stitched-up and triumphant Cancerpants squishing cancer. "Cancer better be wearing double-underwear 'cause I'm gonna kick its ass!" is the cheeky and energizing line imprinted on the 4" pencil with eraser. The postcard is a vibrant version of the journal cover, and the tips included in the inside pocket cover provide encouragement for putting the journal to practical use.

$1 from the sale of every Cancerpants Journal will be donated towards a cancer-related charity. This quarter, the proceeds go to The Lance Armstrong Foundation, which has been using education, advocacy, public health and research programs to inspire and empower people with cancer for nearly ten years. Retail price is $29. Available now.

While watching a friend endure aggressive and rigorous treatment for melanoma, Deb Dormody, owner of If'n Books + Marks, decided that she wanted to provide a creative outlet for people that was suitable to their personalities and appropriate to the gravity of the disease. "Most people I know who have been through cancer have been able to bear the crazy process by welcoming humor into their healing; and a fun journal can be an integral part of that course." Dormody continues, "I didn't want anything saccharin. I wanted images that were smart and kooky - like most people I know - and Jesse was the consummate choice of illustrators to make that vision real." LeDoux's designs have graced the covers of CD's, magazines, and newspapers as well as a new gift card for Target. "Finding the right balance to address the heaviness of cancer without the artwork being too frilly or doom-and-gloom was a fun and unique challenge. I've lost a couple friends to cancer. My goal when creating the art was to create something that they would have been excited about using," says LeDoux.

If'n Books wholesales to over 150 stores nationally as well as worldwide and online, so Dormody plans that the journal will be widely available for purchase as a remarkably perfect gift or for an affordable treat to give oneself.

His art has been exhibited nationwide and abroad. A Grammy Awards nominee, LeDoux currently works out of his studio in Providence, RI, where he continues to combine his avant-garde design sensibility with the basics, “pens, pencils and a few sheets of paper.”
