7th Annual Silicon Valley Boomer Venture Summit Brings Together Entrepreneurs, Venture Capitalists and Business Leaders Focused on the Lucrative Baby Boomer Consumer Market

Business Plan Competition Showcases Innovative Start-Up Entrepreneurs; Features Speaker Best-Selling Author Gail Sheehy

Santa Clara, CA (PRWEB) May 20, 2010

Entrepreneurs, marketers and corporate strategists are invited to attend the 2010 Silicon Valley Boomer Venture Summit (http://www. scuboomerventure. com/) and Business Plan Competition, taking place at Santa Clara University on Tuesday June 15 and Wednesday 16, 2010.

The 2010 Silicon Valley Boomer Venture Summit brings together event industry analysts, the venture capital community, entrepreneurs, and business leaders in the field of aging to create a unique forum to explore business ideas, share trends and best practice information and design products and services that will serve the baby boomer market (http://www. scuboomerventure. com/) in the coming years. Among the topics addressed by the gathered leaders about serving or investing in companies that will serve the boomer market are where and why venture capitalists are investing heavily in the boomer market and how key analysts segment the market and evaluate opportunities.

The boomer marketplace is large and growing. There are 78 million baby boomers in the U. S., (those born from 1946 - 1964). They possess 90 percent of the country's net worth and account for 78 percent of all financial assets. By the year 2030, there will be 71.5 million Americans age 65 or older, more than double the number currently within that demographic.

The Summit agenda is designed to give insight to entrepreneurs, marketers and corporate strategist on best practices in reaching the boomer consumer (http://www. scuboomerventure. com/). Among the agenda's sessions and boot camps are:
'Women in Power': a discussion of the influence of the woman boomer consumer, with Maddy Dychtwald, author of Influence: How Women's Soaring Economic Power Will Transform Our World for the Better.  'How to Finance Your Start-Up' with Vijay Nadkarni, President and CEO of San Jose-based Wellcore and Andy Cohen, CEO of San Mateo-based Caring. com.  'Linking In and Connecting Around the World' with James Datri, President and CEO of the American Advertising Federation  'How to Reach Boomers (http://www. scuboomerventure. com/) Through Print, Online, Radio and Social Media' with Lori Bitter, President of San Francisco-based Continuum Crew.

Featured at this year's Summit is guest speaker best-selling author Gail Sheehy, who launched her latest book this month Passages in Caregiving: Turning Chaos into Confidence. As the acclaimed author of 15 books, including those in her Passages series, Gail Sheehy has changed the way millions of people around the world look at the stages of their lives. Based on her groundbreaking investigations and observations of the lives of men and women in different phases of their lives, she offers dynamic guidance to how they can enjoy each life stage to the fullest. Her newest book takes on the most challenging and personal issue: the care of her terminally-ill spouse.

The Summit culminates with the Boomer Business Plan Competition where finalists will present business ideas for tapping into the burgeoning boomer marketplace to a panel of judges comprised of leading venture capitalists and experts in the field of aging. Finalists are eligible to receive a $10,000 Grand Prize and $1,000 Best Elevator Pitch Prize. Past competitions have elicited international submissions, including from Brazil, Egypt, Germany, Hong Kong, Iceland, India, Israel, the Philippines, and the United Kingdom. These entries have proposed products and services in a variety of channels within the Boomer and senior marketplace, including technology, apparel, travel, sexuality, health and wellness, media and housing.

"The 'longevity marketplace' for boomers and seniors is akin to the Internet in 1996," said Mary Furlong, event producer and Dean's Executive Professor of Entrepreneurship, Santa Clara University. "The difference is there is no bubble when it comes to the opportunity regarding aging. The Summit provides a forum for talented entrepreneurs and the venture capital community to connect around this growing and lucrative marketplace."

The Summit's sponsors include Continuum Crew, AARP, Caring. com, Wellcore and Southwest Airlines. For more information, visit www. scuboomerventure. com.
