(St. Thomas, USVI) ¡V After taking a 10+ year hiatus, the property and liability insurance market place is beginning to show signs of significant price increases. No where is this more evident than in the Workers Compensation insurance arena. Rumors began circulating towards the end of last year that Workers Compensation premiums may see dramatic increases in the new Millennium. The past six months have confirmed this rapidly deteriorating Workers Compensation market. Today, employers across the county are receiving renewal notices with significant growth over last years premiums.

These meaningful increases are the result of a number of factors that are converging on the workers compensation market at the same time. Among the more critical factors are:

„Y Lower investment income,

„Y Double digit medical cost inflation,

„Y Aging workforce, and

„Y Adverse loss development

These rapidly increasing premiums have caused employers to take stock of their current Workers Compensation programs including their cost containment efforts. After reviewing the programs, many employers are coming to the realization that they are no longer controlling their workers compensation expenditures. While many have had aggressive programs in the past, a number of them have found that complacency has taken over their cost containment efforts.

In an attempt to assist employers in developing an overall ¡§Best Practice¡¨ workers compensation cost containment program, Strategic Risk Group has prepared a Manual that can serve as a blue print for employers to begin to take control of their Workers Compensation programs and reduce the subsequent costs. Mr. Moody points out ¡§employers will need to begin, immediately, to implement a state-of-the-art program if they want to obtain maximum cost reductions.¡¨ This has become even more important, since recent benchmarking studies have shown that loss of productivity may account for as much as 74% of the total loss associated with employee¡¦s time away from work. Moody goes on to say, ¡§with the recently noted effect that employee absences can have on productivity, all employers should be interested in implementing the majority of these strategies.¡¨

HP Unveils Imaging and Printing Devices, Solutions and Services for Enterprises: Introduces industry's first comprehensive solutions business partner accreditation, certification and test program

HP today announced a broad expansion of its imaging and printing portfolio for large businesses.

 The company's latest offerings help enterprises manage, secure and simplify their imaging and printing environments and improve workflows to reduce costs and enhance productivity.

The new offerings include six HP LaserJet printers, an enterprise-class scanner for document capture, three access control printing solutions, four printing services and an accreditation, certification and test program for HP's software solution development partners.

HP also extended the reach of its $300 million "What Do You Have To Say?" global interactive marketing campaign to target large businesses. In the expansion, print and online advertising and interactive tools will showcase how 3M worked with HP to globally reduce its device count by 47 percent and save more than $3 million in just two years.

"HP has cultivated three factors essential to the global enterprise business: people, partnerships and portfolio," said Vyomesh Joshi, executive vice president, Imaging and Printing Group, HP. "We have quadrupled the total contract value of HP Managed Print Services, bolstered our Print 2.0 strategy with the recent acquisition of Exstream Software and expanded our focus on imaging and printing solutions that help customers optimize their infrastructure, manage their environment and improve workflows."

HP customer quality assurance for partner solutions

The new HP Solutions Business Partner Accreditation, Certification and Test program (ACT) is the industry's first to accredit partners' internal processes, review their designs and certify their solutions. The program gives customers confidence in the quality and feature richness of the solution, while reducing their implementation time and support costs.

Through the ACT program, HP ensures that the partner's internal development and support processes are pre-qualified using HP's stringent criteria and that applications have been tested to work with HP devices and software. Partners in the program must demonstrate consistent, high-quality delivery of specific solutions built on HP's software development kits and the HP Open Extensibility Platform.

Ten partners, including Assentis, Capella Technologies, Captaris, Equitrac, Jetmobile, Kofax, MPI, Omtool, Pharos Systems and ReadSoft, are now accredited and have specific solutions in the certification process.

Imaging and printing security

The new HP Access Control Printing Solutions are designed to help mitigate security and compliance risks, prevent fraud, protect data privacy and enhance device fleet management. The solutions include:

-- The HP Access Control Secure Printing Solution delivers enhanced print security through authentication, authorization and auditing to track printer usage by device and user. It includes a breadth of authentication options ranging from network log-in to card-based capabilities.

-- The HP Access Control Secure Pull Printing Solution helps mitigate security and compliance risks and reduces paper waste by allowing print jobs to be encrypted and stored until the authorized user is ready to retrieve and print.

-- The HP Access Control Job Accounting Solution is able to track detailed print, scan, copy and email usage by device, user, department or cost center. It accounts for print jobs effectively and aids in forecasting, internal billing and cost recovery.

Expanded device and document capture portfolio

Customers using the six new HP LaserJet devices can improve their adherence to security and compliance regulations in addition to increasing productivity. The product rollout includes:

New toner formulation reduces energy consumption

HP's newly enhanced low-melt toner formulation reduces energy consumption. The toner, available with the new HP LaserJet P4015/4014, is designed to melt at lower temperatures, yet deliver print quality consistency at faster print speeds.

As a result, it requires 15 percent less energy to reach fusing temperature - enabling a 10 to 15 percent improvement in printing system energy consumption per page.(2)

Boost business productivity with new services

The four new services HP introduced help customers identify opportunities to improve the efficiency of their imaging and printing infrastructure and workflows.

As Flood Insurance premiums rise and FEMA pushes to enforce the codes, the solution that is certified to meet all of the FEMA and Building Codes is Smart VENT.

Three models in two sizes are available. Our Duel Function (Louvered) Model # 1540-510 is designed to Mitigate floodwater while providing ventilation that automatically opens and closes with temperature. This model would be used where both ventilation and flood mitigation is required, and where cold weather could freeze pipes.

The Insulated Flood Only Model # 1540-520 is also certified to mitigate floodwater, but is insulated to protect pipes from freezing temperatures. This model would be used in a conditioned space, a garage, vestibule, or office, where ventilation is not required.

The Overhead Door Model # 1540-530 is designed to install into a garage door. It can be supplied in the Insulated Flood Only or Duel Function model. This unit would be used where there is no room for vents on an exterior wall.

Keystone Mercy Health Plan, the largest medical assistance managed care organization in Pennsylvania, in conjunction with Please Touch Museum and Cradles to Crayons, a non-profit organization that collects and distributes used toys, clothes and school supplies, will host a community baby shower for more than 100 Philadelphia mothers-to-be and their families, at Please Touch Museum in West Philadelphia.

The baby shower, which is presented by Keystone Mercy Health Plan’s WeeCare Program, aims to educate pregnant women on the importance of early and ongoing prenatal care. The program will also offer information about WeeCare’s services, which provides support for women throughout their pregnancy and into the post-partum period, which can last up to two months after delivery.

The event will feature a “Getting Ready for Baby” prenatal care workshop, administered by Ramona Gaines, parent educator, Please Touch Museum. Also available will be information on various aspects of prenatal care, massages, raffle prizes and dental screenings for Keystone Mercy Health Plan members. The expectant mothers will also receive gift bags from Cradles to Crayons, filled with supplies such as diapers and baby hygiene products, which will help the mother after delivery. Activities for children will also be available in Please Touch Museum’s facility.

Philadelphia Medicaid recipients represent about 75 percent of the city’s 22,000 annual births.
