The U. S. Olympic eventing squad has a new tool in their arsenal in their quest for gold. The team and their mounts are being fueled by the pure omega-3 fish oils in Wellpride Omega-3 Fish Oil for Horses® and Omega-Cure™ for humans, provided by the Venice, Florida based companies Wellpride and Ambo Health.
Eventing is best described as an equestrian triathlon where horse and rider compete together for three days in three diverse disciplines. These three phases require them to be the ultimate athletes, combining the grace and strength of gymnasts, endurance of long distance runners, and speed and agility of hurdlers, along with a quality essential for this sport--bravery. This is because during the most exciting and exhausting phase, cross-country, horse and rider gallop full tilt across more than ten miles of challenging terrain, leaping off banks taller than a refrigerator and jumping obstacles the size of a VW beetle. These extreme athletes would be almost as at home at the X-Games as they are at the Olympic Games.
All the more reason that they will need the performance boosting benefits from their omega-3 regiment, such as improved joint and respiratory function as well as increased focus and stamina. These are valuable benefits under normal competition stress. Under the additional stress due to the time difference and new environmental conditions in Hong Kong, the benefits of Wellpride and Omega Cure could prove invaluable.
Veteran international competitor Gina Miles said of her horse at the 2007 Pan-Am games, "McKinlaigh was not only the fastest of the U. S. horses, but he also recovered the fastest. This is a changed horse, he used to struggle with respiratory issues, including a tie-back surgery and pulmonary bleeding…Looking back, I can say I changed only one thing, and that was to put him on Wellpride last summer."
Soon-to-be four-time Olympian Karen O'Connor and husband David also an Olympic and Pan Am Games medalist are also strong supporters of Wellpride and Omega-Cure. They and their string of event horses have been on both products since early 2007.
Other members of the 2008 American eventing team include three-time Olympian Philip Dutton, 2000 Olympic alternate Becky Holder, and Amy Tryon and her longtime partner Poggio who took team and individual bronze at the 2004 Games.
"We believe that our products can help these horses and their riders perform to the best of their ability, especially under the intense environmental challenges that our teams will face in this year's Games" said co-founder and owner Anne-Marie Chalmers, MD. "And so in support of our Olympic team, we are donating Wellpride oil to the horses. We want the American team to win."
