Do nurses have time to continue their education? Not really. With the shortage of nurses, long shifts, and dedication to their families, it is hard for a nurse to find time to obtain the required education to renew their licenses.
Nurses are required to update their knowledge and skills through education course. Some states including Florida required 24 credits hours every two years – others require less or more. All courses need to be approved by a licensed occupational healthcare professional. Some courses are one hour and worth one credit. Other courses are a full day and eight credits.
Numerous states have brokers approved by their Department of Health to monitor nursing licenses – either a renewal or a new application from a recent nursing graduate. These Contact Education (CE) Brokers certify healthcare professionals to teach and educate nurses on their continuing education. Hospitals, universities, colleges, private organizations, and healthcare professionals are all offering courses for nurses to obtain their CE units.
The new trend is on-line courses… Why? Because nurses can find time during their busy schedules to educate themselves from the comfort of their home. It is easier for nurses to read a courses while their children complete their homework or are asleep in their beds.
One of these on-line websites that offer Nursing Continuing Education courses is www. CEUnetwork. org. The owner of this on-line service is Helen Malin-Christiansen and after 14 years as a CE Provider and a nurse, she decided to branch out to offer on-line nursing courses. Ms. Malin-Christiansen stated, “This new trend will take off once nurses understand how convenient working from their homes will be!”
