Pearson San Antonio Honors Local Nonprofits for Contributions to Community's Health, Vitality and Growth
Six River City Region Organizations Awarded 2008 Grants From Education and Assessment Company's Local Headquarters
San Antonio, TX (PRWEB) March 11, 2009
Numerous nonprofits in the San Antonio area contribute to the community's health, vitality and growth. In 2008, the Assessment & Information group of Pearson, and its more than 1,000 employees in the San Antonio community, honored many of those important organizations with contributions of volunteer time, materials and grants.
Pearson partnered with nonprofits ranging from groups serving at-risk youth to the food bank and a local animal shelter. River City Pearson employees volunteered hours for numerous community events and activities, such as mentoring elementary students and working with the Special Olympics, the Greater San Antonio Food Bank and more.
"In San Antonio, our nonprofit organizations and their dedicated staff members and volunteers form the foundation that makes this community work," said Aurelio Prifitera, president and CEO of the Clinical Assessment group of Pearson, based in San Antonio. "Now more than ever before, it is critical that companies give back locally with time, resources and financial support. Pearson is honored to be a part of the San Antonio community and work with these worthy organizations."
The company also supported six organizations with grant awards in 2008. Pearson employees donated their time volunteering at numerous local nonprofits, including many of those honored with grants:
-- Bulverde Area Humane Society: The animal shelter located nearby Pearson's San Antonio headquarters will use its grant to ensure that its dogs and cats have food and kitty litter.
-- Down Syndrome Association of San Antonio: With its grant from Pearson, this organization will further its mission of helping parents learn about opportunities for their Down Syndrome children.
-- Greater San Antonio After-School All-Stars: Pearson's support will help this organization continue to provide a safe, drug-free after-school program for students.
-- Home Comforts, Inc.: This small organization will be able to provide even more basic home comforts to help ease stress and anxiety of psychiatric patients who are transitioning into independent living.
-- San Antonio OASIS: Support for OASIS' tutoring program will help even more San Antonio children develop a love of reading and communication.
-- Sunshine Cottage School for Deaf Children: More educational opportunities will be made available for children at Sunshine Cottage, one of three auditory oral schools in Texas and the only one that goes beyond first grade, as a result of this grant from Pearson.
The local contributions committee will solicit applications for 2009 grants in the third quarter. To inquire about the grant process, contact kimberly. dolejsi (at) pearson. com, chair of the grants committee.
