Hale Dwoskin, Featured in the Blockbuster 'The Secret,' Reveals How to Get Over Anger and Resentment in this Economy

Hale Dwoskin, featured teacher in "The Secret" and author of the New York Times best seller "The Sedona Method," reveals how to get over anger and resentment in this economy -- and why doing so is crucial for health and success.

Sedona, AZ (PRWEB) April 15, 2009

Hale Dwoskin, featured teacher in "The Secret" and author of the New York Times best seller "The Sedona Method," reveals how to get over anger and resentment in this economy -- and why doing so is crucial for health and success.

The economy is a touchy subject these days, almost as touchy as the topic of personal finances. Add the two together, and that is a surefire recipe for resentment that has clouded many Americans' thoughts.

In fact, late last year, in a survey by Decision Research, a think tank for risk assessment, 41 percent of 802 respondents said they were very angry about the current financial challenges, while 32 percent said they were moderately angry.

A similar number of people also reported feeling fearful, worried and sad about financial challenges, and 51 percent believed they had no or only slight influence for controlling the impacts of the economy on their lives.

Of course, resentment is a form of anger, so if someone is feeling angry, they are also feeling resentful. Aside from the unpleasantness that resentment brings up in people, why else should they want to get over resentment?

These thoughts put people's mind into a place of negative energy in which they:
May desire to strike out to hurt and stop others Feel intense and explosive sensations Have noisy, stubborn and obsessive thoughts Think about how to "get even" or "make others pay" Take destructive actions toward themselves and others around them

"When you feel anger and resentment you don't realize that you are holding in mind conflict and creating resistance," says Hale Dwoskin, CEO and director of training of Sedona Training Associates. "Even if your anger or resentment is justified, it is looking backwards as opposed to noticing what is actually here now and what you can do about it."

The more someone resents what's happening, the more stressed out they'll feel. And stress detracts from life, robs people of energy and damages health.

An American Psychological Association (APA) study actually found that 43 percent of all adults suffer adverse health effects from stress!

And while a person's health is suffering from fatigue, an impaired immune system, headaches and a myriad of other stress-related issues, their productivity goes down, along with their attitude.

It's next to impossible to think clearly and move ahead with life and career when the mind and body are encompassed in a cloud of negativity, so the more resentment someone feels, the more they can expect their health, success and their financial situation to decline.

And it doesn't matter if someone feels their resentment is justified.

"One of the places where we get stuck with resentment is believing that our anger is justified or we are right," Dwoskin says.

Someone may feel that they're right to be angry about being laid off, and now facing a home foreclosure as a result. Or they may not exactly be sure what they are angry about -- bankers, politicians, the AIG executives, they may all play a part -- but that person knows they're right in feeling this way.

"If you find yourself getting stuck in feeling right or justified, now is the time to ask yourself what's more important," Dwoskin says. "Would you rather be right or justified that you can't get what you want, or would you rather be more successful and achieve your goals?"

"If you'd rather be right," he continues, "then let go of wanting to be right. And if you'd rather be successful, you'll find that you naturally let go and see solutions where before you only saw problems."

When people use The Sedona Method, letting go of negative feelings like resentment and anger is easy. Letting go of negativity brings people to the peace that is their essence, and this peace has room for many seemingly 'different' opinions that are, in fact, all facets of the larger whole.

"So if you're feeling any anger or resentment about the economy in general or about what is happening to you financially, the best thing to do is allow yourself to welcome the anger and let it go," Dwoskin says.

Over 100 New Jobs Created in Brooklyn as Forest City Ratner Companies Signs California-Based Hyrian at Metrotech

Forest City Ratner Companies (FCRC) has announced that Los Angeles-based Hyrian, the premier recruitment process outsourcing provider in the country, signed a lease for 15,400 square feet to occupy half of the 20th floor at One MetroTech Center. Hyrian’s move will create over 100 new permanent jobs in Brooklyn.

Brooklyn, NY (PRWEB) October 5, 2006

Forest City Ratner Companies (FCRC) has announced that Los Angeles-based Hyrian, the premier recruitment process outsourcing provider in the country, signed a lease for 15,400 square feet to occupy half of the 20th floor at One MetroTech Center. Hyrian’s move will create over 100 new permanent jobs in Brooklyn.

"We are extremely pleased that Hyrian has agreed to open corporate offices in Brooklyn, and we welcome them as our newest tenant and neighbor," said Bruce Ratner, President and Chief Executive Officer of FCRC. "MetroTech has not only become a favorite destination of large commercial tenants, but it has also has become an ideal location for dynamic, growing small and mid-sized businesses."

Hyrian will be joining New York Life Insurance which recently moved into 20,000 square feet and One Beacon Insurance, which occupies 15,000 square feet, a half-floor at One MetroTech Center.

Forest City Ratner Companies will continue to pursue similar single and partial floor tenants as part of its ongoing leasing efforts.

Hyrian, serving the nation from its headquarters in Los Angeles as well as its office in Plymouth, Minnesota, will open its newest office at MetroTech Center in early 2007.

Daniel Solomons, CEO of Hyrian, said, "Having a New York office allows us to better serve an already strong base of East Coast business and provides access to a well-educated talent pool. Brooklyn offered a terrific location and our space in MetroTech enhances the vitality and creativity of our company.”

Hyrian serves a number of Fortune 500 companies, including such industry leaders as UnitedHealth Group and Ameriprise Financial.

Hyrian recently expanded their operations to include “Hyrian OnDemand” services for companies with 100 to 5,000 employees. Last year Hyrian recruited 12,000 hires in 48 states and is on track to handle over 20,000 hires this year.

Hyrian’s unique distributed recruitment model can source talent from administrative staff to high-tech positions to senior level executives in about half the time and at one-fifth the cost of traditional search firms. Hyrian is eligible for the Relocation and Employment Assistance Program (REAP) through New York City’s Economic Development Corporation.

Under REAP, qualified businesses are encouraged to relocate their employees to targeted areas of New York City—specifically, the outer boroughs and in Manhattan above 96th Street or below Houston Street. With its new office at MetroTech Center, Hyrian is eligible for tax credits of $3,000 per new job for each year of occupancy, for up to twelve years.

“The Bloomberg Administration’s Downtown Brooklyn Plan, designed to expand the business district, create vibrant public spaces and facilitate the development of new cultural amenities, continues to attract top companies, and Hyrian’s decision to locate at MetroTech Center is the latest example,” said Joshua J. Sirefman, Interim President, New York City Economic Development Corporation.

"FCRC was represented by a CB Richard Ellis team led by Mary Ann Tighe that included Keith Caggiano and Tim Dempsey.

“Hyrian’s decision underscores MetroTech Center’s position as one of New York’s most attractive business addresses,” said Mary Ann Tighe, CEO of CB Richard Ellis’ New York Tri-State Region. “Smart companies of all sizes have found that MetroTech offers an ideal combination of high quality office space, excellent economics and ready access to a talented workforce.”

Hyrian, rhyming with Shakespearean, is an Old English word meaning “to hire.” A privately held company, Hyrian continues to experience significant growth and often finds itself in the same position as many of its clients -- seeking high quality talent. With over 160 employees, Hyrian expects to grow to 300 by the first half of 2007. Recruiting for Hyrian’s new MetroTech location is expected to commence in late October, and interested parties are encouraged to view and apply for opportunities by visiting www. hyrian. com. Forest City Ratner Companies owns and operates 36 properties in the New York metropolitan area with 5.1 million square feet of office space.

FCRC is a subsidiary of Forest City Enterprises, Inc., a $7.8-billion NYSE-listed (ticker: FCEA & FCEB) national real estate company. Forest City Enterprises is principally engaged in the ownership, development, management and acquisition of commercial and residential real estate throughout the United States.

Lessons are provided at Thalia Beach in the heart of Laguna.

For every Southern California hotel package that is booked, a donation is made to organizations such as Reef Check and the Ocean Institute who protect surf spots and keep our beaches and oceans pristine and healthy and provide environmental education.

Billabong and Our Dana Point California hotel (http://www. ritzcarlton. com/en/Properties/LagunaNiguel/Surfing/Default. htm) has a surfing history to rival anywhere outside Hawaii. Hobie Alter opened the very first retail surf shop in Dana Point in 1954. Surfer Magazine began in Dana Point, and to this day, still calls it home. The Surfer's Journal is also based in Dana Point. Dana Point was also once home to a very special wave. That wave broke at the Dana Point Cove and was known as the "Killer Dana." The break got its name because it came out of deep water and broke close to the rocks which lined the beach. In the days before leashes, wipeouts were sure to bring at least a few dings - if not worse. Although the waves in Dana Point, especially at Salt Creek Beach, remain some of the best in Southern California, the "Killer Danas" were reduced when a breakwater was installed when the Dana Point Harbor was built in 1966.

Freetest. me Online Chlamydia Testing Could Save the NHS Millions of Pounds

Freetest. me Online Chlamydia Testing Could Save the NHS Millions of Pounds

New figures from the National Audit Office reveal the Chlamydia Screening Programme is not cost-effective. However, there is compelling evidence that most NHS Primary Care Trusts who are responsible for delivering the service are still failing to use the most cost effective option at their disposal.

(PRWeb UK) November 13, 2009

New figures from the National Audit Office reveal the Chlamydia Screening Programme is not cost-effective. However, there is compelling evidence that most NHS Primary Care Trusts who are responsible for delivering the service are still failing to use the most cost effective option at their disposal.

With routine use of the internet from social networking to shopping among the target ages of 15-24, it’s no surprise that young people prefer to order goods and services online. Research evidences that this is particularly true for Chlamydia testing, where a free discreet and confidential postal service is the preferred method of testing. It’s evident that under 25s would prefer to test at home using a sleek and user friendly experience they can trust.

When asked, Neil Cooper of freetest. me (http://freetest. me. uk/), the UK’s leading online provider of Chlamydia Tests (http://freetest. me. uk/) to the NHS said, “We currently have 30 of the 152 PCTs using our service, but we are genuinely baffled that all PCTs aren’t using our online service to increase screening in their regions."

The NAO reports that the NHS are spending anywhere between £33 and £255 (on average £56) to test a single patient. In contrast, freetest. me (http://freetest. me. uk/) figures reveal they cost the NHS on average £21.14 per test – less than half what’s currently being paid. If the freetest. me service could be offered nationally, the NHS and taxpayers savings would run into millions of pounds each year.

Perhaps worse is that in addition to this, the same PCTs are also failing to reach their targets for the number of tests they perform. Neil Cooper continued, “Thousands of responsible young people hit the freetest. me website every week looking to request a free test for Chlamydia, yet with only 30 of England’s PCTs using the service we’ve already had to turn away over 80,000 visitors to other less effective testing services which cost the NHS around twice as much. It’s barmy."

The NAO recommended that the Department of Health reviews the provision of a national online screening service, and highlights that such a service would benefit from numerous economies of scale. Neil Cooper commented, “We are pleased that the NAO report has made this recommendation, and as we already have the unique experience of offering such a service we would be keen to explore rolling the service out nationally."

Notes to Editors:
Press release for publication post 12 November 2009.

The NAO report essentially identifies a fragmented and therefore expensive service, and recommends a national ‘remote testing’ service. This is precisely the concept freetest. me presented to the DoH/HPA/NCSP over 18 months ago. At that time, freetest. me specifically identified the numerous economies of scale now highlighted by the NAO today. Instead, the national vision was rejected, and freetest. me were told to approach the 152 individual PCTs directly.

The freetest. me service was setup to provide a one-stop solution for PCTs to offer cost-effective online testing. The service is all-inclusive, from marketing to kit dispatch and laboratory costs, and on average costs participating PCTs £21.14 per completed test (per PCT averages range from £19.17 to £21.76 per test). The freetest. me website, now ranked #1 in Google for ‘chlamydia test’ and many related searches has received over 170,000 visitors since its launch in January this year.

Series Encourages Math & Science Classes for High School Students as Gateways to High-Tech Careers

Tucson, Ariz. (Vocus) May 29, 2009

When caring for patients with a SynCardia temporary CardioWest™ Total Artificial Heart (http://syncardia. com/cardiowesttaht/hearthistory. php), the role of the biomedical engineer is as important as the surgeon, physician or nurse. This high-tech career impacts the lives of many and is the subject of a new video series that debuted this month.

The series was launched as part of a new educational web site called "Explore Your Future," which allows high school students to explore nearly 200 career opportunities. The web site focuses on the importance of math and science classes as gateways to exciting, high-tech careers.

Episode 1: Artificial Heart Science (http://www. exploreyourfuture. org/watch. php) - This episode spotlights biomedical engineer Richard Smith, CCE, MSEE, the director of the Artificial Heart Program at University Medical Center (UMC) in Tucson, Ariz. When Smith went to college, biomedical engineers weren't part of the operating room team. However, his background in science and math got him into the operating room in 1985, when he helped implant the first Total Artificial Heart used as a bridge-to-transplant. Today, it is the only FDA, Health Canada and CE approved temporary Total Artificial Heart in the world. There have been more 790 implants, and surgical teams look to Smith to be the expert on the Total Artificial Heart and other heart devices.

Episode 2: Biomedical Engineering (http://www. exploreyourfuture. org/watch. php) - "It's probably the most extreme job I can imagine because we have people's lives in our hands," says Tara, a biomedical engineer who works for Smith at UMC. In this episode, viewers meet two young biomedical engineers, Tara and Dominic, who become so close with their patients they say they feel like part of the family.

Heart Science (Extended Version) (http://www. exploreyourfuture. org/watch. php) - This episode combines footage from Episodes 1 & 2, as well as Episode 3: Medical Imaging. It also includes additional interview footage with Smith, Tara, Dominic and Total Artificial Heart patient Vanessa Cirillo.

The episodes can be viewed at http://www. exploreyourfuture. org/watch. php (http://www. exploreyourfuture. org/watch. php).

Originally designed as a permanent replacement heart, the Total Artificial Heart is currently approved as a bridge to human heart transplant for patients dying from end-stage biventricular failure. The Total Artificial Heart is the only device that provides immediate, safe blood flow of up to 9.5 L/min through both ventricles.

The SynCardia Total Artificial Heart is the first and only FDA, Health Canada and CE Mark approved Total Artificial Heart in the world. There have been more than 790 implants of the Total Artificial Heart, accounting for more than 160 patient years of life on the device.

University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Comprehensive Cancer Center Selects OnCore(r) as its Clinical Research Informatics Platform

University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Comprehensive Cancer Center Selects OnCore(r) as its Clinical Research Informatics Platform

When the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Comprehensive Cancer Center decided to enhance their clinical research infrastructure, comprehensive functionality and a reputation for customer service contributed to their decision to select the OnCore(r) clinical research management system from PercipEnz Technologies, Inc. in December.

Madison, Wis. (Vocus) April 21, 2010

By replacing a system that had been created and maintained in-house over the last 25 years, UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center believes the transition to OnCore will contribute to key strategic priorities for the center. These goals include centralizing clinical trials operations, cost containment, enhanced ability to comply with regulatory guidelines, and demonstrating compatibility with the National Cancer Institute’s Cancer Biomedical Informatics Grid (NCI’s caBIG™) program.

“As clinical trials work has required more specialized personnel, the cost benefits of becoming more centralized have become apparent,” said Michael Bertram, PhD, Associate Director for Administration, UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center. “OnCore will help us bring everyone under one umbrella.”

“It is certainly a pleasure to welcome UAB to the OnCore community,” said Srini Kalluri, president and CEO of PercipEnz Technologies, Inc., the creator of OnCore. “They are a very focused and energetic group. We look forward to a successful implementation and many years of collaboration.”

The center has begun implementation according to the standard OnCore implementation plan and all of the center’s research groups will begin using the system right away.

Bertram also expects the new system to improve the center’s ability to comply with regulatory guidelines. As part of this effort, the center has elected to use the Electronic Protocol Review and Monitoring System (ePRMS), a module in OnCore that provides committee and workflow management for the scientific review process prior to activation of a new clinical trial.

During the center’s search for a new system, Bertram consulted with his peers at other cancer centers. “OnCore was highly recommended by other cancer center administrators and clinical trial personnel,” said Bertram. “PercipEnz’s reputation for customer service is excellent.”

As an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center, compatibility with NCI's caBIG™ program was a requirement for the new system. OnCore received caBIG Bronze compatibility certification in April, 2008. The certification is based on compliance with guidelines set by NCI’s caBIG™ program, the objective of which is to provide a framework to access and use data from remote data resources with the ultimate goal of creating greater transparency and efficiency for cancer clinical research operations.

“We’re excited about rolling-out the new system and to be participating in the user community,” said Bertram.

About the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center

One of the nation's leading cancer research and treatment centers, the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center is the only NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center located in a six-state area that includes Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, South Carolina and Georgia. UAB's cancer services are routinely recognized as being among the nation's best.

The UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center is home to an outstanding faculty of more than 330 physicians and researchers, many of whom are internationally and nationally recognized for their expertise in oncology. The center treats an estimated 5,000 new patients each year.

Arthritis Prevention: Consumers Early Use of Flexcerin Staving Off Osteoarthritis

Arthritis Prevention: Consumers Early Use of Flexcerin Staving Off Osteoarthritis

As more people are made aware of how common arthritis is in both children and adults, and that the medical community is in agreement on a whole that prevention, rather than treatment, is the most effective method—many are turning to proven all-natural supplements, like Vitaloix Labs’ best-selling arthritis treatment and prevent supplement: Flexcerin.

Manalapan, NJ (PRWEB) May 1, 2010

More consumers are being made aware that not only are the numbers of people who are being diagnosed with arthritis on the rise, but that anybody, including children, are at risk—based upon recent findings of the CDC (US Center for Disease Control) that were cited in a recent health article. In light of this, the study and the article suggests that early prevention and treatment remain amongst the most efficient options for prevention and treatment of arthritis—prompting a surge of consumer awareness about proven and effective, safe and all-natural arthritis treatment and prevention supplements, such as Vitaloix Labs’ best-selling arthritis supplement: Flexcerin.

In a late March article that was published on the very popular online medium, About. com, which discussed and cited arthritis facts that many people are unaware of, as it relates to the symptoms of arthritis, the staggering numbers of those who have been diagnosed with arthritis or who are at risk of contracting it, as well as highlighting the fact that early prevention and treatment is crucial in curbing and effectively treating this disease, has shed some light on the many benefits of natural preventative treatment options.

Amongst the ten facts about arthritis that the article discusses that most people are not knowledgeable of, the article cites eight ones of interest, some of which that were sourced from a late January CDC publication (http://www. cdc. gov/chronicdisease/resources/publications/aag/arthritis. htm (http://www. cdc. gov/chronicdisease/resources/publications/aag/arthritis. htm)).

The article cites,

“Anyone Can Develop Arthritis - Even Children
One of the greatest misconceptions about arthritis is that it is only a disease of the elderly. Not true! Actually, about two-thirds of people with arthritis are under the age of 65. Anyone can develop arthritis -- even children. According to the CDC, 1 in every 250 children are affected by some type of arthritis or rheumatic condition.

Arthritis Is More Common Among Women Than Men
Statistics indicate that across every age group, more women develop arthritis than men (24.4% vs. 18.1% respectively).

Arthritis Is the Nation's Leading Cause of Disability
According to the CDC, each year approximately 19 million U. S. adults report that they have activity limitations due to arthritis. Of all working age adults (ages 18-64), about 1 in 20 report that they have arthritis that limits their work.

Arthritis Leads to Physical Inactivity, Which Is a Risk Factor for Other Diseases
Arthritis symptoms, such as pain, limited range of motion, and fatigue, discourage physical activity. Some patients fear increased pain, worsening symptoms, and even joint damage from exercise and physical activity. But there may be a consequence -- physical inactivity is a risk factor for diabetes, heart disease, and obesity.

To manage arthritis, lifestyle modifications are also important. You should stop smoking if you are a smoker, maintain a healthy weight, protect your joints, exercise and participate in regular physical activity, remain compliant with your treatment regimen, and consider a self-management program to help improve your quality of life with arthritis. Until there is a cure, the goal must be to live well with arthritis.

Early Diagnosis and Appropriate Treatment Are Essential to Managing Arthritis
When you experience the first symptoms of arthritis, you likely won't even know what's wrong. You will be hoping it just goes away. But it's very important to be evaluated by your doctor if symptoms persist. You need to be properly diagnosed and start treatment early in the course of the disease.

Certain Types of Arthritis Have Systemic Effects
The most common arthritis symptoms include pain, stiffness, and swelling in or around the affected joint. There are some types of arthritis, classified as autoimmune and inflammatory (e. g., rheumatoid arthritis and lupus), that may affect many parts of the body, not just the joints. These are called systemic effects.

Arthritis Is Highly Prevalent
The CDC estimates that 46 million American adults have doctor-diagnosed arthritis. It has been projected that as the population ages, the number of people with doctor-diagnosed arthritis will soar to 67 million by the year 2030.”

(Source: Internet, 2010; http://arthritis. about. com/od/arthritislearnthebasics/a/arthritis_basics. htm (http://arthritis. about. com/od/arthritislearnthebasics/a/arthritis_basics. htm).)

For Flexcerin spokesperson, Contessa Jackson, it is articles and CDC publications like these that have the power to really change people’s lives when it comes to both being better educated on this disease, and more importantly, taking the proper measures to prevent or treat the symptoms of it.

“When you read the staggering numbers of diagnosed cases of Arthritis in the US alone, and their estimated increases over the next twenty years that lay ahead, the statistics are rather frightening,” Jackson says. “It is CDC reports and articles such as this that really allow for consumers to be made more aware of the importance of early treatment and diagnoses, and that there are affordable, safe and all-natural supplements, like Flexcerin, that can assist them.”

Flexcerin is able to treat the symptoms associated with arthritis by using a revolutionary, scientifically designed formula that is based upon years of research and clinical testing, which promotes healthy joint functions and works to alleviate pain and swelling, while repairing damaged joints.

The proprietary ‘Maximum Strength Bone and Joint Formula’ contained within Flexcerin was formulated to help rebuild worn joints, lubricate stiff joints, increase range of motion, improve mobility and flexibility, soothe inflamed joints and decrease pains associated with arthritis by rebuilding worn joints with Glucosamine, Chondroitin and MSM.

Flexcerin is also able to ease the aches and pains associated with arthritis by lubricating stiff joints with Omega 3 oils and other essential fatty acids, and by soothing aching, inflamed joints with special inflammation-inhibiting herbs (natural COX-2 inhibitors).

Most people will realize noticeable results from taking Flexcerin within one or two months of daily usage, when used as directed.

Manhattan Fitness Professional Warns of Serious Weight Gain During Tax Season

Manhattan Fitness Professional Warns of Serious Weight Gain During Tax Season

Tax season is stressful and stress often leads to weight gain. Fitness professional warns this can cause serious weight gain during this time of year.

New York, NY (PRWEB) April 11, 2006

It's tax season again. For many people this is an extremely stressful time of year. Stress has been associated with weight gain, and fitness professional Katrina McKenna warns that this could cause excessive weight in many individuals.

There are several ways the stress causes people to gain weight. First when we are under stress the adrenal glands produce more cortisol. Excess cortisol will slow down your metabolism. The slower the metabolism, the fewer calories you are burning throughout the day. So if people do not eat less or exercise more, then the pounds are added.

To add insult to injury, people under stress have cravings and these cravings are often for sweet and fatty foods, or comfort foods. Eating sugar causes serotonin to be released in the brain creating a more positive mood. So now in addition to having a lowered metabolism, people are eating more high caloric food in order to feel better, an even bigger calorie excess is created. This is often referred to as emotional eating.

Due to deadlines, people are often too busy to exercise or prepare healthy food. So people will often eat the unhealthy convenient alternatives, like fast food and candy or chips from vending machines and skip their workouts. The poor food choices are often very high in calories and very low in nutrients.

The overeating combined with lack of exercise will wreak havoc on a person’s blood sugar levels, causing fatigue and even more cravings leading to a viscous cycle if not caught and corrected.

To combat this, fitness professional, Katrina McKenna, suggests taking short breaks to do a few exercises and to prepare healthy snacks ahead of time.

For additional information, Katrina McKenna is offering a, “Guide to Tax Season Fitness,” providing exercise and healthy eating tips. This guide can be downloaded at http://www. TaxSeasonFitness. com (http://www. TaxSeasonFitness. com)

MedValue, the leading provider of Claims Processing solutions and offshore talent to America’s leading Insurance Payors announced the rollout of its groundbreaking MedValue Workflow Management System for Claims Processing™(WMS), a proprietary web-based management and collaboration tool designed to eliminate risk of processing claims offshore by providing seamless Communication, Knowledge Management, Management Reporting and Issues Tracking between its Customers’ US-based Staff and MedValue’s India operations.

(PRWEB) August 25, 2004

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) August 25, 2004 – MedValue, the leading provider of Claims Processing solutions and offshore talent to America’s Insurance Payors announced the rollout of its groundbreaking MedValue Workflow Management System for Claims Processing™ (WMS), a proprietary web-based management and collaboration tool designed to provide seamless Communication, Knowledge Management, Management Reporting and Issues Tracking between its Customers’ US-based Staff and MedValue’s India operations.

“WMS revolutionizes the way our clients interface with our support staff in India”, said CEO Raj Vaswani from MedValue’s Chicago headquarters. “As more and more Insurance companies, Third Party Administrators, HMOs, PPOs, Health Plans, and Physician MSOs are freed up from managing ineffective employees and come to realize the outstanding cost-benefits they derive from our offshore talent and services, we want to make sure they gain greater efficiencies and turnaround times in their operations, too. WMS is the cherry on top of the sundae”, says Vaswani. “If the strong team of college-educated claims processing staff isn’t enough to help instantly handle high volumes enabling our customers to grow their operations, our clients become true-believers when they see how seamless WMS has made working between their staff and their extended team in India at our centers. Productivity increases dramatically and knowledge is shared easily between new and existing employees”. Another benefit Vaswani shares goes straight to the bottom line “With WMS, clients are speeding up adjudication of paper HCFA-1500s and UB-92s by quickly identifying and providing missing information that is holding up claims”.

MedValue Workflow Management System for Claims Processing™ is built using state-of-the-art Microsoft based technologies and is an integral part of the MedValue Platform™; the robust business architecture designed to deliver custom offshore outsourcing solutions for the Insurance Claims Processing market. The risks of offshore outsourcing projects is usually what keeps many US-based companies from taking benefit of the low-cost and quick turnaround advantages. WMS is targeted at lowering this risk of cross-border implementations of mission-critical business processes, thereby enabling our customers to have their cake and eat it too.

WMS features include: Reporting for the Management Team, Manual Claim Entry and Issue Resolution, Intellectual Capital Repository, Real-Time Project Collaboration, Searchable Claim Records and Knowledge Management.

MedValue’s Workflow Management System for Claims Processing™ has been in development and in operation at Beta sites since mid-2003. MedValue Clients who are working with WMS are thrilled with its simple interface and personalized features. “WMS proves once again that the web can make collaboration seamless whether you are working across the office, across town or from the other side of the world in today’s global economy” says Vaswani.

Children's Hospital Boston Advances Cutting-Edge Technologies with its New Technology Development Fund

Children's Hospital Boston launched a new Technology Development Fund aimed at advancing promising early-stage hospital technologies, such as drugs, diagnostic tests and medical devices.

Boston, MA (Vocus) May 8, 2009

Children's Hospital Boston (http://www. childrenshospital. org/newsroom/Site1339/mainpageS1339P0.html) launched a new Technology Development Fund (http://www. childrensinnovations. org/) aimed at advancing promising early-stage hospital technologies, such as drugs, diagnostic tests and medical devices. The program will ultimately spend more than $1 million per year to fund projects that are not traditionally carried out in academic labs but are necessary for technology validation, including large-scale animal studies, prototype development and advanced pre-clinical testing.

Traditionally, research institutions often partnered with companies to carry promising laboratory findings into preclinical and clinical development, which can be a lengthy and expensive process. Today, the changing business climate is evaporating interest in early-stage technologies. "Companies are downsizing not only in terms of people, but in terms of the number of products they can reasonably support the development of," says Erik Halvorsen, Ph. D., director of Technology and Business Development (http://www. childrenshospital. org/cfapps/research/data_admin/Site49/mainpageS49P0.html) at Children's. "If the number of programs they can support are limited, they want them to be less risky and at a later stage in their development."

Innovations coming out of the labs at academic institutions and research hospitals are considered early stage - generally not having been validated in animal models or with clinical data. Current statistics show that the average cost and time to develop a drug is now estimated at $1 billion and 10+ years (Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association/Tufts Center for the Study of Drug Development: http://www. phrma. org/files/2008%20Profile. pdf (http://www. phrma. org/files/2008%20Profile. pdf)) with fewer than 10 percent of investigational new drugs filed for new molecular entities (NME) ever progressing beyond the investigational stage to approval (From FDA: http://www. fda. gov/cder/guidance/6384dft. htm (http://www. fda. gov/cder/guidance/6384dft. htm)). The combination of these factors has created a "gap" between National Institute of Health (NIH) funded basic research and the late stage technologies now sought by companies and investors.

In order to address this gap and fulfill its mission to increase the translation of its research into potentially life saving products, Children's has decided to take action by launching the Technology Development Fund--even in the current challenging economic times. Combined with Children's Translational Research Program (http://www. childrenshospital. org/cfapps/research/data_admin/Site2640/mainpageS2640P0.html), these resources provide a complementary source of stimulation and facilitation for development of preclinical, and ultimately, human translational trials seeking to improve the care of patients with serious diseases.

"While the idea of a technology development fund is not novel, the approach Children's is taking in setting up the fund certainly is," says Halvorsen.

To narrow the gap and provide a clear path to market for its innovations, Children's is implementing a three pronged approach that combines an investment of capital into the technology, an external advisory board, comprised of industry leaders in therapeutic, diagnostic and device product development, and a network of preferred contract research organizations (CROs) to execute the project plan.

The external advisory board will work with the hospital to select promising technologies for development and, along with the investigators, generate a specific project plan. The hospital will then engage CROs to carry out the plan-which cannot typically be done in a hospital environment. To insure that milestones are being adequately met, the hospital also intends to take an active role in managing the awarded projects. The newly appointed Technology Development Manager, Monique Yoakim-Turk, Ph. D., will work with members of the advisory board who will play a mentorship role to selected projects--coordinating the projects, communication and deliverables between the hospital, the investigators and the CROs.

Collaborations and licenses through Children's Technology and Innovation Development Office (formerly the Intellectual Property Office) have produced nine major products that are now on the market, including a medical device to close holes in the heart and two anti-cancer therapies. In 2008, research funding at Children's Hospital Boston totaled over $180 million and TIDO received 116 Invention disclosures and executed 20 licensing and 37sponsored research and clinical trial agreements with industry.

The Children's Hospital Boston Technology Development Fund Advisory Board includes:

Dean Banks, MBA, CEO Connective Orthopeadics
Alan Crane, MBA, Venture partner, Polaris Venture Partners
Russ Granzow, VP Strategic Business Dev, Philips
Stanley N. Lapidus, Director/Founder/Chairman of the Board, Helicos Biosciences Corp

How Fat Is Burned: Turning Fat Into Energy, Carbon-dioxide and Water

How Fat Is Burned: Turning Fat Into Energy, Carbon-dioxide and Water

Do you know how fat is broken down by the body? It's an amazing process full of many chemical reactions. In the end, all that is left is water, carbon-dioxide, and energy.

(PRWEB) November 3, 2005

The primary reason we need to eat food is to provide fuel for the body. This fuel comes from the breakdown of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. To explain it simply, food is broken down to produce energy, and it takes many chemical processes for that to occur. Molecules are removed, heat is produced, but basically all that is left in the end is water, carbon-dioxide, and energy.

But it’s far more complicated than that. Carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, each get converted to energy but each take a different path.

Before I start on how fat is burned (or broken down), let me first explain a few key terms in the process of converting food to energy:

ATP: Adenosine Tri-Phosphate is energy. It’s what the body uses as fuel at the cellular level. It can be produced using oxygen (aerobic), or without the presence of oxygen (anaerobic).

Glycolysis: An anaerobic process where glucose is converted to pyruvic acid.

Pyruvic Acid: If oxygen is available it is converted into acetyl CoA. If no oxygen is available it is converted into lactic acid.

Acetyl CoA: All this potential energy can only be achieved if it enters the Krebs Cycle, and to do this it must first be converted in to acetyl CoA.

Krebs Cycle: This is an eight step cycle that amongst other things, removes hydrogen and carbon-dioxide. It also produces a small amount of ATP.

The Electron Transport Chain: The final process in the breakdown of foods. This is where most of the ATP is formed.

How Fat Is Broken Down

There are a number of fats in the body but it’s the triglycerides, or “neutral fats”, that are usually converted to energy. The triglycerides come from both stored fat (from within fat cells and skeletal muscle fibers) and diet (the foods we eat). This single triglyceride will eventually produce 441 ATP molecules. When compared to the 38 ATP that are produced by glucose, you can easily see why fat is considered a much richer source of energy.

Step 1: The break-down of triglycerides

To be used for energy a triglyceride needs to be broken down into its basic units: one molecule of glycerol and 3 molecules of fatty acids. This process is called Lipolysis.

Step 2: Conversion to acetyl CoA

Although they both have the same outcome, the glycerol and fatty acids each follow a different path. Their goal is to enter the Krebs Cycle, but first they must get converted to acetyl CoA.

Step 2a: Glycerol to acetyl CoA

Glycerol, which is a basic sugar, follows the glycolytic pathway (glycolysis). During this process it is converted into pyruvic acid. For entry into the Krebs Cycle, the pyruvic acid must be converted to acetyl CoA.

This is done in 3 steps:

I) One carbon is removed from the pyruvic acid and released as carbon dioxide, which is released from the cell and exits via the lungs.

Ii) Hydrogen atoms are removed and will later exit be used to produce more energy.

Iii) What’s left is called acetic acid, and it is combined with coenzyme A to form Acetyl CoA

Step 2b: Fatty acids to acetyl CoA

Fatty acids are converted into Acetyl CoA via a process called beta-oxidation. During this process the fatty acid chains are broken apart, forming two acetic acid molecules. Each of these are then fused to coenzyme A, forming acetyl CoA.

Step 3: The Krebs Cycle

At this point both the glycerol and the fatty acids have been converted to Acetyl CoA and are now ready for the Krebs Cycle. As the Acetyl CoA is broken down, carbon-dioxide and hydrogen are removed. Once again the carbon-dioxide exits the body via the lungs. However, the hydrogen moves on to the final stage.

Step 4: The Electron Transport Chain

The Electron Transport Chain is the final process in the break down of food. Each of the hydrogen molecules that were removed during the previous processes have been transported here. They now combine with oxygen to form water (H20), with the resulting energy from this reaction causing the formation of ATP.

Scripps Pioneers Individualized Medicine by Offering Genetic Testing to Stent Patients

Scripps Pioneers Individualized Medicine by Offering Genetic Testing to Stent Patients

Individualized Therapies Now Available for Anti-Clogging Medications

San Diego, CA (Vocus) October 8, 2009

In what is believed to be a first for a health system in the United States, Scripps Health is now offering genetic testing as part of its care for cardiovascular patients planning to undergo elective stent procedures.

The tests will determine if patients have one or more of the common gene variants linked to an inability to metabolize the anti-clotting drug Plavix (clopidrogel). Plavix is the second-most commonly prescribed drug in the United States and is given to most patients after they receive coronary stents.

The genetic test results will give doctors vastly improved data that will lead to an individualized approach to each patient's treatment following a stent procedure. Stents are tiny metal tubes that cardiologists use to open clogged arteries.

Genetic testing for this population carries significant implications for patient care, as more than 1 million people undergo stent procedures in the U. S. every year. The gene variants associated with an inability to metabolize Plavix occur in more than 30 percent people of European ancestry and more than 40 percent of those of African or Asian ancestry. People with these gene variants carry double or triple the risk of death, heart attack or stroke, compared to people with the normal metabolism alleles in multiple large-scale studies.

"This represents a landmark program in individualized medicine, based on considerable new data and new choices for one of the most commonly prescribed medications and medical procedures in the world," said Dr. Eric Topol, chief academic officer of Scripps Health. "This program demonstrates Scripps Health's commitment to being at the forefront of individualized cardiovascular medicine."

Scripps Health provides more cardiovascular care than any other provider in California. Last year, Scripps treated more than 45,000 cardiovascular patients. Scripps is currently designing the Scripps Cardiovascular Institute (SCI), which is planned to open in 2015.

"Knowing a patient's individualized risk has a tremendous impact on treatment decisions," said Dr. Paul Teirstein, head of interventional cardiology at Scripps Green Hospital and Scripps Clinic. "The point is to do everything we can to give patients the best possible outcomes. This kind of genomic screening gives us critical information we need to help patients."

Scripps patients carrying the gene risk variants will be considered for three treatment choices following their stent procedures, each on an individualized basis. Patients will either:
Be given a routine 75 milligram dose of Plavix with careful surveillance;  Be given a 150 milligram dose of Plavix, which has recently been shown to be safe and effective in patients showing lack of response to Plavix; or  Be given the newly approved medicine Effient (prasugrel), which is not affected by the gene variant Cytochrome (CYP) 2C19.

Scripps physicians will initially offer the genetic tests to elective stent patients before they undergo their procedures at Scripps Green Hospital. Eventually, Scripps may extend the offering to its other facilities across San Diego County.

Quest Diagnostics will perform the CYP2C19 testing for Scripps patients at its Quest Diagnostics Nichols Institute laboratory in San Juan Capistrano, Calif. The results will be transmitted to the treating physician and treatment choice will be tailored based on the patient's risk for lack of Plavix effect, both with respect to the coronary anatomy and bleeding risk, since Effient (prasugrel) carries a significantly higher risk of bleeding than Plavix.

George Soros Sends Author Richard Pfeiffer to Help in Belgrade, Serbia

George Soros Sends Author Richard Pfeiffer to Help in Belgrade, Serbia

(PRWEB) March 17, 2000

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(New York, 3/16/00)

The 1999 bombings and economic sanctions have left the people of Serbia isolated, traumatized, and feeling powerless. Philanthropist George Soros and his Fund for an Open Society of Yugoslavia recently sent relationship expert Richard Pfeiffer to address the highly regarded Serbian Psychological Association on the issues of 'Assertiveness.' Pfeiffer presented practical skills and ideas from his new book Creating Real Relationships Overcoming the Power of Difference and Shame. Can two people develop a relationship that will support, encourage, and nurture their real self? Can a real relationship heal the wounds and emotional deficits received in early life?

Pfeiffer says, "The search for meaning is the journey of expressing one's real self." He describes how two individuals can seek to develop a relationship in which both find support for the expression of their real self. People who make a real relationship work have certain skills. They know and practice core interpersonal skills, which allows them to form a relationship that can endure, deepen, and grow. The Serbian psychologists have initiated several programs in their local schools as a result of the presentation.

Creating Real Relationships is an inspiring guide that offers encouragement for those seeking more meaning and healthy closeness in their relationship. A real relationship provides its partners with the opportunity for personal growth, development of the real self, and emotional and spiritual healing. The author weaves professional knowledge with personal experience to show the reader how to overcome the power of difference and shame, which may threaten the level of relationship satisfaction. This essential book offers clear explanations, practical skills, insightful background, and a guide for the healing journey possible in real relationships.

One of the unique features of this work is its focus on the dynamics of difference and shame underlying what goes wrong-or what can go very right-with relationships. The dynamics of difference and shame have the power to set up the development of a false self. The false self defensively refuses to assert the real self. Overcoming the power of these dynamics is the source of transforming unhealthy wounded relationships and individuals into healthy ones.
