This week, Prestwick House, Inc. was named 4th in Book Business Magazine's annual "Best Book Publishing Companies to Work For" survey. This yearly project is conducted in conjunction with the Best Companies Group, an independent research firm that specializes in finding and recognizing great places to work. Prestwick House has been honored both years that this survey has been conducted, and improved significantly over last year's 12th place rank.

In addition to recognizing a benefits package that includes matching 401k contributions and health, life, dental, disability, and vision insurance, Prestwick House was distinguished for encouraging a healthy work-life balance and collegial atmosphere.

"Prestwick House is one of those rare employers that seems to truly care about their employees on a personal level, and does everything they can to promote a healthy mix of work and play," says Prestwick House first-year copywriter Annie Rizzuto. "By helping employees better care for themselves and their loved ones, Prestwick House creates a supportive environment that most certainly promotes productivity in the workplace."

"The list recognizes those companies that go above and beyond to make their employees feel appreciated and valued, and to help them balance their work and personal lives," writes Noelle Skodzinski, Editor of Book Business magazine. "It seems clear that employees value respect and empowerment just as much [as traditional benefits]."

Patricia Buhler, Professor of Human Resources at Goldey-Beacom College agrees saying, "A critical strategic challenge today is talent retention. Those companies that create environments where employees feel valued and are able to contribute their unique talents are more likely to stay with the company. This firm creates an environment where each employee can grow and contribute his or her unique talents. Such an employer of choice is found in Prestwick House."

Perhaps most impressive about this small Smyrna-based company of 33 employees is their ability to compete with much larger publishing companies whose appeal is often their comprehensive benefits packages.

"We could have the best policies and benefits in the world, but they would not amount to much without everyone's real commitment to serving each other and our customers," says VP Jason Scott.
