Humboldt Storage and Moving Offers Tips on the Correct Way to Pack.

CANTON, MA (PRWEB) AUGUST, 2003 -- Dedicated to making your move as smooth and stress-free as possible, Humboldt Storage and Moving, the largest United Van Lines agent in the Greater Boston Area, offers a free booklet “Smart Packing can Save Time as well as Your Furniture” on the correct way to pack.

Here are just a few of Humboldt Storage and Moving tried and true packing tips:

For china, glass and crystal, wrap each item individually, provide plenty of cushioning (3-4 inch layer of crushed paper) and make sure they are firmly packed. Place plates on edge and glassware on rims for maximum protection. Mark the carton “FRAGILE” and seal the carton with tape.

Wrap breakables, including electronics and/or small appliances, clocks, lamps etc. individually. Pack beginning with heaviest items to lighter weight items, making sure to place on a two or three-inch layer of crushed paper on the bottom of a carton. Fill in empty spaces with crushed paper. Seal the carton with tape. If some items are glass or breakable, mark the container “FRAGILE”.

Lightweight clothing such as sweaters, shirts, blouses and lingerie may be left in dresser drawers. But, do NOT fill drawers with heavy items such as books or table or bed linens. Never leave containers that may spill or leak or fragile items, money, jewelry, watches or other valuables in drawers.

Protect mechanical items from rust. Bicycles and tools should be oiled prior to storage and placed away from furniture items to avoid oil stains.

Do not wax or polish wood furniture before a move as it softens the wood and makes it more vulnerable to imprinting from furniture pads.

“An enormous amount of time can be saved simply by packing your belongings correctly. We cannot stress enough that every container should be clearly labeled and contain plenty of cushion. Good preparation is the key to a successful move,” noted D’Arcy Goldman, President of Humboldt Storage and Moving.
