Nordic Walking is low impact and yet provides a highly effective workout - burning more calories and working more muscle groups than regular walking.

The folks at The American Nordic Walking System and www. SkiWalking. com are ready to help make your New Year's Resolutions come true.

Skin Care Tips For Summertime Workers

Skincare News educates those partaking in summer employment on how to protect their skin during the warm weather months.

Sacramento, CA (PRWEB) June 18, 2007

Skin care is always important, but when job requires to be outdoors excessively during the summer months, it is vital people take good care of their skin. Skincare-News. com's latest article, "Skin Care Tips for Summer Workers" shows that there are steps people can take to keep their skin healthy and damage free.
Http://www. skincare-news. com/articles. php? ArtID=319 (http://www. skincare-news. com/articles. php? ArtID=319)

Lifeguarding is one such occupation that can accelerate the risks for skin cancer:
The entire job of certified lifeguard requires to spend time under the sun. Even if lifeguard are perched under that shaded umbrella, the skin is soaking up more UVA and UVB rays than what is considered healthy by medical standards. Lifeguards are at a higher risk of skin cancer than other summer jobs.

Working as a camp counselor is another high risk occupation. However, a camp counselor may be more exposed to insects than sunlight. Because of this, they will have to use repellent that will protect them the safe way:
be sure to pack some bug repellent and cortisone cream to keep itching and biting to a minimum.  always avoid camping skincare products that contain a high level of DEET (Meta-N, N-diethyl toluamide, abbreviated DEET, is an insect-repellent chemical), which has been proven to be dangerous for humans.

So is there a natural alternative?:

Cinnamon oil is a great natural alternative to DEET, and Skedattle© is currently a popular commercial mosquito repellant that is affordable and DEET-free.

Dog Island Partners with CafePress. com to Build a Merchandising Business

Dog Island Partners with CafePress. com to Build a Merchandising Business

Dog Island, the worldÂ’s only sanctuary for dogs, has just finalized and launched a product section in partnership with CafePress. com

Dog Island, US Minor Outlying Islands (PRWEB) June 1, 2003

Dog Island, the worldÂ’s only sanctuary for dogs, has just finalized and launched a product section in partnership with CafePress. com. TheDogIsland. com site has been featured in USA Today, on the BBC, the Village Voice, Libero News, The Herald Sun and countless others. In just three months the site has been exposed to about half a million people.

Http://www. TheDogIsland. com (http://www. TheDogIsland. com)

Just in time for Father’s Day, the product section contains BBQ aprons, shirts, messenger bags and briefcases, license plate frames and much more. The hooded sweatshirt, coffee mugs and lunch boxes have been some of the most popular items so far. “Just the concept of Dog Island brightens my day and makes me giggle in the mornings and at nights,” said Linda Reyes, one of the first repeat purchasers on the website. “I would give this gift to almost anyone.”

How the Alliance Works

Dog Island will be sending its traffic to a customized version of CafePress. com. CafePress. com will take the orders and fulfill them, leaving the team at Dog Island free to focus on the pressing every day needs of all the dogs. This is all built into the business model of CafePress. com and they have built a beautiful platform for us to work with. The store can be found at: http://www. cafeshops. com/dogisland (http://www. cafeshops. com/dogisland)

Dealing with the New Dogs

Due to the massive increase in awareness because of the website, the Dog Island has also seen an enormous surge in not only the amount of dogs being sent, but also the quality. “Luckily, there are so many talented people who apply to our job positions, and we are able to really visit all the people who want to send their dogs and get a detailed and insightful vision of what that dog is really like.” The employees that conduct the interviews are all Dogologists that have spent a lot of time on the island and have been witness to the problems that result from a lack of harmony.

Where the Funds and Profits Will Go

The Dog Island will be returning the money made in the merchandising business to build the website and the awareness of the Dog Island as well as to promote the health of dogs not just on the island, but everywhere.

New Treatment for Varicose Veins Promises a Sensational New Look

New Treatment for Varicose Veins Promises a Sensational New Look

Varicose veins affect over 80 million Americans. A new technique using radiofrequency energy provides an outpatient cure for most patients.

Buffalo, New York (PRWEB) July 12, 2005

So, what are two cardiac surgeons doing when they opened a new vein treatment center in the suburbs of Buffalo? The two surgeons are looking at incorporating new techniques for the treatment of varicose veins to their surgical practice.

Dr. Hratch Karamanoukian and Leon Levinsky have established the Vein Treatment Center in Williamsville, NY "because of a need that was relayed to them by (their) patients," said Dr. Karamanoukian, who is the Director of Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery and Robotic Heart Surgery in the regions' largest health care system, Kaleida Health. "The patients asked us to provide this service, as no one in the area was delivering comprehensive vein care to the community."

Dr. levinsky stated that a recent study about the VNUS Closure system has developed a significant interest in the community for vein care.

Radio frequency obliteration of the saphenous veins has been introduced as a less invasive alternative to traditional surgery for varicose veins. A group of investigators, the 'VNUS Closure Group' has published their clinical outcomes to determine the efficacy of endovenous obliteration of the saphenous vein for venous insufficiency with three years follow-up.

The study, performed in 330 lower extremites of 294 patients was performed in a prospective manner worldwide. The authors concluded from this landmark study that radiofrequency saphenous vein obliteration improves the symptoms of varicose veins and that reflux-free rates in the treated veins remain constant over a 3 year follow-up period.

Studies like this have shown efficacy of radiofrequency obliteration of the saphenous vein for reflux disease causing varicosities in the legs.

Drs. Karamanoukian and Levinsky are developing a larger center to deliver Total Vein Care to their patients, moving to a 4,000 square foot facility in the georgetown Plaza in Williamsville, NY.

"We are developing a center to provide the VNUS CLosure procedure in an ambulatory setting and anticipate moving into this facility in the next month. In the meantime, we continue to provide comprehensive vein care to a large number of patients in our existing facility", said Dr. levinsky. To learn more about Total Vein Care, go to www. DiagnosisHeart. com

The Total Vein Care Center provides A-Z comprehensive vein care to the patients of Western New York.

A Glass of a Natural Supplement and a Decade off your Age – Envida Releases the Anti Aging Secret the Stars use to Keep them Young

A Glass of a Natural Supplement and a Decade off your Age – Envida Releases the Anti Aging Secret the Stars use to Keep them Young

Many of us are looking for the new cosmetic craze, the new innovation in healthcare that will make us look and feel younger. The answer however is here and it’s more than a fad, it’s an entirely fresh way of anti aging that actually works. It’s neither costly nor intrusive, and fits into the busiest of lifestyles. In fact it’s so simple it’s a wonder that Envida is the first company to introduce these natural anti aging supplements the stars love, into the UK.

(PRWEB) March 22, 2006

Many of us are looking for the new cosmetic craze, the new innovation in healthcare that will make us look and feel younger. The answer however is here and it’s more than a fad, it’s an entirely fresh way of anti aging that actually works. It’s neither costly nor intrusive, and fits into the busiest of lifestyles. In fact it’s so simple it’s a wonder that Envida is the first company to introduce these natural anti aging supplements the stars love, into the UK.

While we all know that the best thing for inner and outer health is to eat five portions of organic fruit and vegetables per day, with the packed lifestyles we lead, we can be forgiven for slacking, what with the preparation time, mixing selection and shopping involved. Wouldn’t it be great if many of these fruit and vegetables we needed (oh, as well as ‘good’ oils and ‘good bacteria’) were incorporated into one drink each day… without having to juice…or clean…?

Sounds too good to be true? Well it was, until now. The secret closely guarded by top models at ICM models, personal trainers, anti aging clinics such as the Rejuv Laser Clinic currently treating Gail Porter, Harley street dieticians and celebrities including Gaby Roslin, all looking for the best, natural option to achieve their youthful looks, has finally been released for sale to the general public by Envida.

The organic juice produced in Germany for over 20 years, incorporates 40 fruit and vegetables as well as herbs and oils, and has not attained its critical acclaim unnecessarily. Its effects proven by numerous United Nation studies, this bioactive drink is far superior to man-made supplements. It is more complete, more natural and a whole lot more functional.

Unlike many companies of the moment, Envida’s nutritional juices is unpasteurised and therefore all the nutrients are ‘alive’ or what scientists call ‘bioactive’; unlike juices on the shop shelves which are heated to such high temperatures during pasteurisation that most of the nutrients are damaged. Envida juice is concentrated, on the contrary, at low temperatures in the absence of air and light, using levitated water and magnets, all in order to keep all the nutrients and micronutrients in tact. Very scientific, yes, but you would expect any less from the German manufacturer whose only aim is to make sure that the highly functional, if un-sexy looking product, gets the highest possible results. And results it has.

It’s no wonder Envida has been inundated with pledges of eternal support from its customers! Until now Envida has provided it’s anti aging supplements to a selected group of dieticians and nutritionists, but since the product has become so popular due to customer endorsements and word of mouth, Envida has finally decided the public as a whole should benefit from it too. After all, not everyone can afford the price of seeing a top dietician, but all can benefit from the juice that forms the basis of many health experts’ recommendations for health and anti aging.

On top of this, many of us are now far more knowledgeable in the topics of health and wellness, and already know why fruit and vegetables and the nutrients contained in them are so vital and often so lacking. The problem does not seem to be a lack of information anymore, rather the lack of a convenient way to get these foods to fit into our lifestyle.

A full list of ingredients, such as Aloe Vera, Spirulina algae and omega oils are viewable at: www. envida. info. Together, the anti-oxidants they contain not only counter aging, but help the immune, circulatory, digestive systems and kidneys, protect against UV rays, encourage hair growth and of course, by neutralising free radicals, cut the chances of infections as well, as scientifically proven.

A half-litre bottle, when diluted as instructed, makes up six and a half litres of the drink. This is the amazing thing – with 50 days supply in each bottle, a glass of Envida juice in fact costs less than 90p per day!

MC Strategies, Inc. Announces New WebInservice e-Valuator Product

New e-Valuator tool significantly simplifies the tracking and reporting of healthcare organizations' staff competencies.

(PRWEB) March 22, 2003

Atlanta, GA, March 20, 2003 – MC Strategies, Inc. recently announced the development of a new product, the WebInservice e-Valuator™. This unique product is an addition to the WebInservice Knowledge Deployment System® (KDS) e-learning platform. The e-Valuator is an innovative management tool that enables healthcare organizations to electronically document, track and report competency and compliance evaluation data enterprise-wide.

The WebInservice e-Valuator organizes competency and compliance checklist data into streamlined, easy-to-read reports. These reports provide healthcare managers and compliance officers with a standardized way to track staff competency and department regulatory compliance – by individual, department or facility. This new tool also creates a centralized, electronic location for checklists featuring 24/7 access. WebInservice e-Valuator offers the flexibility of documenting competencies and compliance using either a paper checklist or a hand-held PDA.

According to Kathleen Cohen, MC StrategiesÂ’ Director of Clinical Services Consulting, a multi-facility integrated delivery network (IDN) is successfully using e-Valuator to monitor HIPAA compliance in all 14 of its hospitals. Every department, enterprise-wide, is being assessed. Depending on the department being evaluated, the IDN has developed 11 different checklists (gap assessments) and each checklist contains from 12 to 36 questions. The IDN is using both the e-Valuator paper checklist and PDAs with wireless Internet connectivity to document department compliance status.

The WebInservice e-Valuator simplifies and expedites the periodic evaluation of staff competencies which can help preserve quality of care and ensure compliance within any healthcare organization. It also assists with the evaluation of staff on new equipment and procedures. In addition, the e-Valuator helps identify potential problems that can lead to medical errors that compromise patient safety. The new tool also significantly facilitates annual competency assessments such as those required by Joint Commission and OSHA.

New Book Offers Answers for Female Hair Loss Sufferers: Includes Special Forward From Richard Simmons

Hair loss in women has leapt to an astounding 30 million cases in the U. S. While hair loss is readily accepted in the male population, the taboo subject of female hair loss has generally been avoided by medical literature and most consumer venues. A new book by renowned expert Dr. Matt Leavitt hopes to change all that.

(PRWEB) January 30, 2005

Hair loss in women has leapt to an astounding 30 million cases in the U. S. While hair loss is readily accepted in the male population, the taboo subject of female hair loss has generally been avoided by medical literature and most consumer venues. A new book by renowned expert Dr. Matt Leavitt hopes to change all that.

The book Women and Hair Loss: A PhysicianÂ’s Perspective is a consumerÂ’s guide from a medical point of view. Authored by Dr. Leavitt, founder of nationally recognized Medical Hair Restoration (MHR), the book strives to educate women on the primary reasons they experience hair loss and the viable options available for treatment. The book also probes the psychological aspects of hair loss, citing many studies about the emotional impact this infliction can have.

Through his MHR practice, Dr. Leavitt has helped thousands of women with their hair loss concerns and frustrations with the medical process. To help women become better informed medical consumers, there is an entire chapter dedicated to the doctorÂ’s role in female hair loss. Dr. Leavitt offers valuable advice on what questions to ask, what questions the doctor should be asking, and suggests medical tests to properly determine the cause. Charts of common medications that may have the side effect of hair loss are also provided.

“Millions of women suffer not only from hair loss, but from a lack of information on the topic,” said Dr. Leavitt. “It’s unfortunate that many people, even doctors, can be dismissive of females losing their hair. That’s why I wrote this book—to provide information and hope to women dealing with the confusing and sometimes devastating effects of hair loss.”

Topics such as hair loss in children, ethnic hair loss, and cancer-related hair loss are all covered, as well as a brief history of hair and an explanation of the science behind a human hair follicle. The latest techniques in female hair transplantation are also reviewed, with before and after photos of MHR patients. Women and Hair Loss: A PhysicianÂ’s Perspective is a recommended read for medical practitioners as well, to increase their knowledge of female hair loss and to aid their communication with these patients.

A special foreword from renowned health and fitness guru Richard Simmons states: “I praise Dr. Leavitt for listening and responding to thousands of women who have not had such an in-depth source prior to this book.”

Published by Beautiful Media, the book is available for $16.95 plus shipping and handling through www. womenandhairloss. com or by calling 1-877-664-HAIR.

About the Author

Matt Leavitt, DO is a board certified dermatologist and hair restoration surgeon. He is the founder and medical director of Advanced Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery, one of the largest dermatology practices in the country, and of Medical Hair Restoration, a national practice associated with surgical hair transplantation. Medical Tourism Finds New Option on the Web: Hospital Clinica Biblica in Costa Rica

Medical Tourism Finds New Option on the Web: Hospital Clinica Biblica in Costa Rica

The Clinica Biblica Hospital in Costa Rica (currently one of the most popular medical tourism destinations), has released a new website providing direct access to its medical procedure expertise and services for international patients. High quality medical services, personalized attention and a significant reduction in costs are among their service highlights.

San Jose, Costa Rica (PRWEB) March 7, 2007

As a result of increasing costs in medical services provided in the United States and Europe, people have recently been drawn to visit countries abroad to have medical procedures done at a lower cost and comparatively same quality. In Costa Rica (currently one of the most popular medical tourism destinations), the Clinica Biblica Hospital has played a key role in the expansion of these offerings, and it has now released a new website providing direct access to its medical procedure expertise and services for international patients.

Guest Services Director, Lorena Morera explains: "For a long time the Hospital Clinica Biblica has been visited by patients from USA, Canada and some European countries to have cosmetic surgery, bariatric procedures, and cardiovascular treatments among others. In other cases, patients are healthy but they come to Costa Rica for a vacation and have their annual medical check up. In all cases, we have always made sure our guests receive a personalized service that will fit their particular needs. So our new website is a natural step towards evolving our high quality service, with all the necessary tips and tools that potential guests require before making a decision of traveling to Costa Rica for a medical procedure."

Hospital Clinica Biblica, a general hospital located in the capital of San Jose, was founded in 1929, and enjoys an excellent national and international reputation for quality care in many areas; including plastic surgery (http://www. hospitalbiblicamedicaltourism. com/medical-tourism-plastic-surgery. html? source=prweb1), eye surgery (http://www. hospitalbiblicamedicaltourism. com/medical-tourism-eye-surgery. html? source=prweb1), weight loss surgery (http://www. hospitalbiblicamedicaltourism. com/medical-tourism-weight-loss-surgery-bariatric. html? source=prweb1), and a wide range of outpatient services such as medical check-ups. A great part of its success has been due to its renowned quality of health care services provided, which is currently under a Joint Commission International certification process. The Hospital is also staffed by many dedicated - and US trained - physicians and surgeons. "We are proud to say that our patients receive the most appropriate care delivered by knowledgeable, compassionate physicians who are among the leaders in their respective fields in Costa Rica", notes Lorena Morera.

Additionally, the difference in cost for all procedures provided by the Hospital results in an inexpensive option, specially for people with no insurance or that cannot pay the high cost of healthcare in the United States. For example, a surgical breast enlargement (http://www. hospitalbiblicamedicaltourism. com/medical-tourism-plastic-surgery-breast-enlargement. html? source=prweb1) in the US is on average $10,000, whereas at the Clinica Biblica the prices start at $4,000.

The new Hospital Clinica Biblica medical tourism (http://www. hospitalbiblicamedicaltourism. com/?source=prweb1) website not only provides detailed information on each procedure offered, but also has travel sections to help you plan a complete trip to Costa Rica. Their online contact forms and chat service provide you direct contact with their Health Care Assistant Department, who can help schedule your medical procedures and medical appointments, secure lodging, and provide assistance with hospital admissions and financial transactions.

JRS Architect, P. C. Designs Facility for Most Powerful MRI Device in New York Tri-State Region

JRS Architect, P. C. Designs Facility for Most Powerful MRI Device in New York Tri-State Region

JRS Architect, P. C., with offices on Long Island and in New York City and Princeton, N. J., designed a recently completed medical facility that houses one of the most-powerful MRI devices in the New York Tri-State region. JRS, one of the nation's leading heathcare design firms, designed the innovative space for Neurological Associates of Long Island, P. C., in Lake Success, N. Y.

Mineola, NY (PRWEB) July 29, 2009

JRS Architect, P. C. has designed a facility in Lake Success to house one of the world's most-powerful magnetic resonance imaging devices -- the first of its kind in the tri-state area.

The recently completed facility, part of 14,300-square feet of new offices for Neurological Associates of Long Island, P. C. at 1991 Marcus Ave., houses a powerful Hitachi Oasis Open MRI as well as a slightly less powerful Hitachi Echelon MRI.

JRS, with offices in Mineola, New York City and Princeton, N. J. is one of the nation's leading designers of healthcare facilities and has been designing imaging facilities since 1990.

The Oasis space at Neurological Associates is unusual in that it has outside windows, something that architects at the firm, led by senior vice president Alex Hadjiyane, believed would help to put patients undergoing exams in the space at ease. Similarly, the architects designed a back lighted, floor-to-ceiling photograph of a woodland scene for the Echelon exam space. "They help to calm and soothe the patients," said Hadjiyane.

Coordinating with the manufacturer, physicists, structural engineers and contractors, JRS designed spaces that provide not only comforting environments for patients under going MRI examinations, but also protect the spaces from outside electrical interference and keep patients and staff in the office and other tenants in the building safe from RF emissions from the MRI devices.

The two, 20,000-pound machines presented additional concerns, because they would be located on the floor that sits atop the building's parking garage and, therefore required extra support. Steel beams, however, were ruled out, because their iron content could interfere with the magnets. The proposed solution, aluminum beams, needed approvals from Albany, because local building officials were unsure if they could meet code, Hadjiyane said.

The architects also had to design thicker walls so that steel-plate shielding could be put into place to prevent seepage of the machines' emissions. Physicists align the magnets to prevent the shielding from interfering with the magnets. The outside windows also were manufactured to specifications that prevent interference and seepage.

As part of the project, JRS also was asked to design space for two additional distinct elements of the eight-physician practice -- doctors' officers and examination rooms and a physical therapy space. Hadjiyane and his team aimed to keep the three elements unified and maintain a flow of the space. The puzzle was complicated by a large number of columns in the raw space that the practice would occupy, Hadjiyane added.

Visitors to the practice enter a spacious waiting room, which like the rest of the space, is decorated in tone-on-tone sandstone vinyl wall coverings. A large reception desk, largely blond wood, sets off the main waiting area and curves toward the office's business area. Space is used efficiently with additional offices lining the corridor leading to the MRI and physical therapy areas. Colorful lithographs of the paintings by modern artists, such as Jasper Johns, Mark Rothko, Jackson Pollack, Piet Mondrian and others, brighten the space. "That's why the offices are soft and muted," said interior design Karen McGuiness.

The result, said Hadjiyane is "an environment that is warm, friendly and welcoming."

The client agreed. ""Their design ideas were functional and imaginative," said Dr. Jeffrey Kessler, a principal of Neurological Associates. "We love the office."

Kessler added: "They were responsive, creative, imaginative and very professional."

JRS ranks among the nation's 40 largest healthcare design giants in annual surveys conducted over the past four years by Reed Business Information's Interior Design magazine.
JRS, which has designed two other medical practices in the Lake Success building that houses Neurological Associates, also recently designed numerous testing facilities in New York City and Long Island for Laboratory Corp. of America, facilities in Manhattan for Jenny Craig Inc., and the new Great South Bay, LLC medical office facility in Islip. JRS also is working on a facility at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.

Scandinavian Child's Founder and CEO Appointed Vice Chairman of Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association's Board of Directors

Brenda Berg, founder and CEO of Scandinvian Child, has accepted the position of Vice Chairman of the Juvenile Products Manufacturing Assocation (JPMA). Founded in 2002, Scandinavian Child brings innovative, functional, yet stylish children's products to North America. The company represents six brands from around the globe. Berg has served on the JPMA Board since 2006, most recently as the Board Treasurer.

Raleigh, NC (PRWEB) April 6, 2009

Brenda Berg, founder and CEO of juvenile products company Scandinavian Child, has accepted the Vice Chairman position of the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association's (JPMA) Board of Directors. A strong safety advocate, Brenda was appointed to the JPMA Board in June 2006 and serves as a voting member of two ASTM Safety Committees.

"As Vice Chairman, Brenda continues in a JPMA Board leadership position during a time when JPMA's role in the industry is needed more than ever. With a tough economy and constant changes in product safety regulations, JPMA is working hard to represent the needs of its membership while continuing to advocate for public safety, health and product quality," said Mike Dwyer, Executive Director of JPMA.

"It is my pleasure to play a role in JPMA's leadership," says Brenda Berg. "As a mom and juvenile products vendor, I know how important it is for this industry to stay involved in key issues around product regulation and safety. I'm proud of the role JPMA plays in certifying product testing. It is one of many examples of how JPMA serves the public and I look forward to continuing to advocate for both manufacturers and consumers," Brenda continued.

About JPMA

Founded in 1962, the JPMA (http://www. jpma. org (http://www. jpma. org)) is a national trade organization representing 250 companies in the United States, Canada, and Mexico who manufacture, import and/or distribute infant products such as cribs, car seats, strollers, bedding, and a wide range of accessories and decorative items. JPMA's extensive history of leadership in juvenile product safety includes the development of a comprehensive Certification Program to help guide parents and caregivers toward purchasing juvenile products that are built with safety in mind. JPMA's Certification Seal is available to manufacturers who voluntarily submit products for testing. Only after the product passes the rigorous testing of the appropriate ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) standard can it display the JPMA Certification Seal. In addition to product testing, JPMA works with government officials, consumer groups, and industry leaders to educate consumers on the safe selection and use of juvenile products.

About Scandinavian Child

Founded in 2002, Brenda Berg's inspiration for Scandinavian Child was the beautiful and practical Svan® High Chair, which she discovered on a trip to Sweden while pregnant. Applying her years of management consulting experience, Brenda established Scandinavian Child with the business idea of bringing innovative, functional, yet stylish children's products to North America. The company's flagship product, the JPMA/ASTM safety certified Svan® High Chair, launched in the North American market in 2003 and gave parents a new way to look at children's products.

Scandinavian Child now represents six brands from around the globe including: Svan of Sweden, Cariboo of New Zealand, Monarch, líllébaby, Beaba, Micralite and Anka by Svan, a line commissioned by Scandinavian Child to offer parents great design at an exceptional price point.

Built on the company philosophy, "Designs Without Compromise," all of the products in the Scandinavian Child collection must meet the company's demanding criteria: safety, usefulness, eco-friendly design, style and superior quality, and be JPMA certified. American College of Cardiology Joins the National Healthcare Career Network

American College of Cardiology Joins the National Healthcare Career Network

37,000 member cardiovascular organization re-launches its career center and joins growing network of healthcare association job boards

Washington DC (PRWEB) July 9, 2009

The American College of Cardiology (ACC), a 37,000-member non-profit medical society based in Washington, D. C., today announced its online job board – ACC Cardiology Careers – has joined the National Healthcare Career Network (NHCN). The NHCN is an initiative that brings together healthcare associations, to provide job placement and advancement opportunities; career development tools, training, scholarships and resources to mitigate workforce shortage challenges facing the healthcare marketplace.

The new ACC site launched on July 1, and now employers wishing to reach ACC’s substantial audience of qualified cardiovascular professionals need to post their jobs directly with the new ACC Cardiology Careers site (http://cardiologycareers. acc. org (http://cardiologycareers. acc. org)).

“We are extremely excited about the new opportunities ACC Cardiology Careers will be able to deliver for our members, other industry professionals, and employers,” said Dr. Jack Lewin, ACC CEO. “We are also looking forward to working with our colleagues at the American Hospital Association and other healthcare associations to cooperatively address the shortage in qualified workers.”

NHCN founding partner, the American Hospital Association (AHA), has taken a leadership role in rallying healthcare associations around this cause. “In spite of the economic downturn, healthcare employers are still struggling to find great candidates,” said Anthony Burke, president and CEO of AHA Solutions (an American Hospital Association company). “ACC is a great addition to the network, and we invite all health care associations – large and small, national and regional – to join us as we band together to tackle the workforce challenges,” continued Burke.

Associations participating in the NHCN gain greater exposure for each job posting. Not only will postings appear on the originating association’s job board, they will also be shared with every relevant network participant. Healthcare employers will be able to use the NHCN to find talent faster—selecting from the largest pool of candidates with certifications, extensive health care training and specialized knowledge available. The NHCN’s technology is powered by Boxwood, the leading provider of online career centers to associations and professional trade organizations.

More than 170 top healthcare associations and professional organizations have joined the NHCN devoting resources to help healthcare resolve its crisis.

Despite billions spent on commercial job boards, today’s critical healthcare positions remain vacant. The NHCN promotes healthcare associations’ niche (specialized) job boards and online career centers as viable alternatives for finding and developing industry-specific talent.

The NHCN is actively recruiting healthcare associations and professional trade organizations to participate. For more information, visit www. nationalhealthcarecareernetwork. com.

The Bon Secours Charity Health System Cardiac Outreach department, will host a series of three “Ladies Lunch and Learn” seminars throughout New York's Lower Hudson Valley, to coincide with American Heart Month in February. These three seminars, will focus on the role stress plays in heart disease – the number one killer of women.

(PRWEB) January 23, 2005

The Bon Secours Charity Health System Cardiac Outreach department, will host a series of three “Ladies Lunch and Learn” seminars throughout New York's Lower Hudson Valley, to coincide with American Heart Month in February, announced Barbara Demundo, R. N., Director of Cardiac Outreach for the System. These three seminars, will focus on the role stress plays in heart disease – the number one killer of women.

The luncheons will feature a presentation by Arlene Prince, C. Ht., a certified Hypnotherapist, who will give a brief talk and presentation entitled, “What is the Relaxation Response and how do we elicit it?”

“As the stress in our lives builds, it often brings forth the ‘Fight or Flight’ syndrome which in turn leads to increased blood pressure, heart rate and tension – all major risks for heart disease,” according to Prince. “There are currently no medications or surgeries the can counteract this negative effect. Fortunately, however, we have within ourselves an opposite reaction – The Relaxation Response. With daily practice of simple techniques, over time the body builds resistance to stress and the related harmful symptoms diminish.”

“As a woman, you are probably great at taking care of your family and friends, but what about yourself? Most of us tend to put ourselves at the bottom of the priority list which leaves us overtired and overstressed,” commented Demundo, “Constantly putting others first, as many women do, can lead to stress, which increases blood pressure, heart rate and tension -- all of which can increase a woman’s risk for heart disease.”

“We are inviting women of all ages to gather their girlfriends and sit back and relax with an enjoyable lunch as they learn simple techniques that will help them to control the stresses in their lives, and improve their heart health,” said Demundo.

The Ladies Lunch & Learn seminars will be held:

• Thursday, February 10, beginning at 11:45 AM at the Warwick Conference Center in Warwick, NY (Snow date is February 15),

• Thursday, February 17, beginning at 11:45 AM at Mount Fuji Restaurant in Hillburn, NY (Snow date is February 22), and

• Thursday, February 24, beginning at 11:45 AM at Erie Trackside Manor in Port Jervis, NY (Snow date is February 28).

There is a nominal fee of $10.00 per person for the luncheon and seminar, with all proceeds benefiting the American Heart Association. Reservations are required, since seating is limited, and can be made by calling 1-888-606-CALL.

The system being implemented at Baylor consists of in-depth physiological testing, monitoring of every workout using a Garmin Forerunner 305, then uploading the files to TrainingPeaks (http://www. trainingpeaks. com (http://www. trainingpeaks. com)) for communication and analysis of fitness trends over time allowing the coaches to customize the training regime for each athlete.

Coach Todd Harbour, head coach for Baylor University's Track and Field team, home to recent Olympic medalists Jeremy Wariner, Reggie Witherspoon and Sanya Richards, has introduced the first web-based fitness monitoring system within collegiate running. Each member of the endurance track team monitors their workouts with a Garmin Forerunner 305 watch with GPS. The Garmin watch keeps track of time, distance, pace, and heart rate and is then easily uploaded to TrainingPeaks. com where coaches review the data and plan future workouts. "Combining TrainingPeaks software with Garmin products, and the experience of physiologist Corey Hart, brings great benefits to our track program," said coach Harbour. "My intent is to have a more objective system of tracking fitness and fatigue in order to better prepare the team for important meets."

Corey Hart, an exercise physiologist from Physio Performance Lab in Boise, Idaho who is a consultant for the Baylor Track and Field team explains, "We will be implementing one of the most advanced fitness monitoring systems in the world with the Baylor distance runners by using a combination of laboratory testing and daily training analysis. This proven monitoring system has produced podium positions in the Tour de France and Olympic cycling events and will now be used for the first time with a collegiate running program. We will be monitoring daily fitness and fatigue for each individual athlete in the hopes of creating top performances for key competitions. Personally, I'm very excited to have the opportunity to integrate a new and practical role of sports science into Coach Harbour's program."

"TrainingPeaks is currently the software of choice for more than 2,000 coaches, personal trainers and dietitians and is designed to work seamlessly within a program like Baylor's," said Dirk Friel, Peaksware CMO. "TrainingPeaks brings the training solution together by providing direct communication with the Garmin devices and the software tools for coaches to analyze fitness and communicate with their athletes."

Power of Yin: Conversations With Bod, Phase 2

Power of Yin: Conversations With Bod, Phase 2

An 8 Week Workshop for Women to explore issues of eating, body image, and weight.

(PRWEB) May 13, 2005

The relationships between the sacred feminine, emotions, body sensations, and food cravings will be explored in “The Power of Yin” an upcoming eight-week workshop for women 6:30-8:30 Monday evenings June 6-August 1 (no class 7/4) at the Institute of Noetic Sciences in Petaluma. This series is the second phase of the ‘Conversations with Bod’ Research, open to the public.

Workshop topics will include an introduction to intuitive eating, hunger cues, and cultural messages about body image. Participants will have an opportunity to discover new ways to maintain balanced eating and self-care through a range of activities, including feminine/masculine energy integration and body attunement techniques, such as meditation, somatic movement, expressive art, and journaling.

The workshop presenters are Barbara Birsinger, a Registered Dietitian and Masters of Public Health, and Sonoma County Chiropractor and Religious Science Practitioner, Dr. Josephine Smith.

Birsinger, a resident of Petaluma is also a doctoral candidate in Spiritual Healing and Energy Medicine at Holos University Graduate Seminary in Missouri which offers specialty degrees in transpersonal psychology, integrative health care, and medical intuition. She has lead workshops on the topic over the past decade, and is currently conducting cutting edge research on the “Effects of an Integral Spiritual Approach to Restoring Balance to Eating, Weight and Care of the Self”. Through the research she explores reconnecting with innate intuitive wisdom and spiritual consciousness, and the relationship between healthy eating and healthy attitudes about food and body. This research is also being replicated as a college course at Brigham Young University in Utah.

Dr. Smith practiced nearly two decades as a Chiropractor, and is currently in ministerial school, teaches body-mind-spirit classes and has recently co-facilitated Conversations With Bod workshops with Birsinger.

“Changing eating habits and body attitudes is a tough challenge in our culture. My approach integrates the spiritual and symbolic messages to bring about changes that can result in improved self-care practices, body esteem and healthy eating. This can reduce food cravings and weight in a way that puts dysfunctional eating out of a job!” said Birsinger.

Seating is limited. Advanced registration is preferred. For more information, call (888) 243-9582 or visit www. BarbaraBirsinger. com.
