Viator Secures Additional $4 Million in Funding Through Carlyle Venture Partners and Technology Venture Partners

Viator Secures Additional $4 Million in Funding Through Carlyle Venture Partners and Technology Venture Partners

Growth in global online travel, integrated destination activity position Viator for success.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) June 5, 2006

Viator (www. viator. com), the world’s largest online resource for tours and activities, today announced it has raised an additional $4 million through its current investors, Carlyle Venture Partners, the U. S. venture and growth capital arm of Washington D. C.-based The Carlyle Group, and Sydney-based Technology Venture Partners. This financing follows the $6 million raised from the same investors in November 2005.

Allan Thygesen, managing director of Carlyle Venture Partners and a member of the Viator board commented, “The online travel sector is poised for continued growth, specifically in two key areas that bode well for Viator -- global markets yet to capitalize on the retail power of the internet for purchasing travel, and the advance-purchase activities arena. With more than 3,500 affiliates around the world and the ability to complete transactions in multiple currencies, Viator is seizing a largely untapped market opportunity as the preferred global resource for consumers to research and book trip activities before they travel.”

Over the past decade, Viator has expanded its penetration of the global travel market by building and maintaining strong relationships with both activities operators and multi-national distributors, such as Priceline, Opodo, Air France, and Fairmont Hotels & Resorts.

In addition to providing content to third-party sites, Viator also sells directly to consumers via its own website, where advance bookings have nearly doubled year-over-year through the first quarter of 2006. More than 30 percent of Viator’s bookings originate outside of the United States, and the company expects the trend toward more international bookings to continue over time. In Europe, which is the second largest market for Viator outside the United States, the company has seen the number of advance-purchase activities booked more than double in the last year.

“The continued investment in Viator is testament to the global scope of the opportunity, and our first-mover position in this important online market for ’the things you do when you get there,’” said Rod Cuthbert, founder and CEO of Viator. “This new funding allows us to focus on increasing our product portfolio in key destinations, improving our technology infrastructure, direct-to-consumer marketing, and continued development of new alliances and distribution partnerships.

“The recent acquisition of Las Vegas-based LookTours is a prime example of how we will continue to build our portfolio and improve services that directly contribute to Viator’s bottom line and growth, while also supporting the interests of our partners.”

Viator’s acquisition of LookTours, which was announced May 23, enhanced the company’s product range in Las Vegas and 30 other key markets, while also providing access to call center infrastructure and experience at LookTours that will complement Viator’s existing online-only services.

About Viator

Viator is the world’s leading online resource for travel experiences – the things you do when you get there - providing access to more than 4,500 sightseeing tours, attractions and activities in 450-plus destinations in over 75 countries. Viator’s in-house travel experts help take the guess work out of planning by hand-picking respected and trusted local operators to ensure a quality experience, value and service. Viator, founded in 1995, sells directly to consumers at www. viator. com and through its growing global network of more than 3,500 affiliates that include major hotel and airline companies, online travel agencies, city-specific sites and more. John Ratzenberger, Renaissance Man, talks with BigButtRadio. com

John Ratzenberger, Renaissance Man, talks with BigButtRadio. com

The actor, activist, philanthropist and "dancer" with the stars gets philosophical on popular internet radio program.

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) May 4, 2007

What drives a man like John Ratzenberger? Most widely recognized to American audiences as the know-it-all postal worker, Cliff Claven from TV's Cheers and currently host of Made in America on the Travel Channel, Ratzenberger keeps busy with a number of other endeavors.

"I guess I'm driven by an old school work ethic, which sadly, is lacking in today's generation," he recently told BigButtRadio. com host, Andy Savage. "I, with a lot of other talented people, am working to get the message out to the youth of today, that skilled labor is a very respectful goal. But, kids today think that they all will be professional athletes or celebrities. That mentality is keeping smart, gifted people from pursuing careers in the trades."

Patrick the Trainer, fitness expert to the show wanted to know if Ratzenberger was conscious of maintaining his good health and its impact on his audience.

"Yeah, it's important that I take care of myself, so that I can maintain the energy to do all the things that I'm passionate about", replied Ratzenberger. And is he passionate about dancing? "Ha", he laughed. "Not really. I did this as test for myself to measure what I'm capable of. Believe me, it may look easy, but there is a lot of hard work behind the show that people don't see. But for a sixty year old guy, I think I've done pretty well."

His run on the hit show may have come to an end, but the exposure gave him the opportunity to promote his philanthropy. "I'm very active in raising money for diabetes research, protecting the environment and of course, the work of www. nutsandboltsfoundation. org, a group that mentors youth in developing manual skills." One point he was clear to emphasize on the internet radio show, "Get out and do something for your community. Change is only going to happen if you act. So, start today. And be an example by taking care of your health, so that you can help others for a long time to come."

With a career that has lasted over thirty years on television, the stage, film and as a voiceover artist, he must be doing something right.

"I agree with the message that you're giving on www. bigbuttradio. com, start with baby steps and just keep going. You would be surprised at just how much you can accomplish."

Fox's Lair Success Breeds Sequel

Fox's Lair Success Breeds Sequel

Fox Capital, experts in corporate finance, are holding a second Fox's Lair competition, this time in Liverpool, it was announced today. Companies from around the UK are invited to compete for £millions in funding from the UK's leading sources of corporate investment.

Isle of Man, British Isles (PRWEB) February 16, 2007

Fox Capital, experts in corporate finance, are holding a second Fox's Lair competition, this time in Liverpool, it was announced today. Companies from around the UK are invited to compete for £millions in funding from the UK's leading sources of corporate investment.

The success of the first Fox's Lair competition, held last autumn in the Isle of Man, prompted the decision to stage a sequel. The competition, loosely based on the BBC's Dragon's Den, will see more than a dozen finalists vying to find funding for their businesses.

"The first Fox's Lair was a massive success with 11 of the 14 finalist being offered deals. Liverpool's vibrant economy and reputation for innovation makes it an excellent choice for the sequel," said Fox Capital Director Justin Martin. "Our focus remains expansion stage companies that are looking for up to £25 million in funding to take their businesses to the next level."

The Fox's Lair Liverpool is open to privately held companies of any size; profitability is not necessarily a requirement. Roy Tilleard, Director at Fox Capital explained; "Participants of the first Fox's Lair are now involved in deals worth more than £10m. Most of the successful companies came to us with strong turnover growth and a healthy margin. Now they're getting the necessary the resources they need to fully capitalise on opportunities. We want to bring the same opportunity to Liverpool."

As far as business and finance expertise goes, the Foxes have few equals. Justin Martin has spent the last 15 years in finance and business and product development, managing numerous businesses in the Isle of Man, the United Kingdom and the Russian Federation. He co-founded Flintstone Technologies plc, the AIM listed start-up and expansion stage investment company which completed more than 25 separate private equity transactions with a combined value of more than £40 million.

Roy Tilleard, a qualified accountant, has held executive roles in both multi-national and private businesses. He's best known for leading the international expansion of the Deb Group, known for its Swarfega brand, which he part-sold to Barclays Private Equity in a £135m transaction. He is also a director of Callows Yard Developments Ltd, an £11 million commercial property development in Castletown, Isle of Man.

Together they form Fox Capital, a firm that is a recognised expert in corporate fund raising. It provides services in equity and equity-linked fund raising, flotation, mergers and acquisitions, debt arrangements, in addition to other advisory services. The pair have forged close working relationships with the UK's leading private equity investors and commercial debt providers alongside a number of the UK's leading AIM advisory firms that can be quickly brought to bear for participants in the Fox's Lair Liverpool.

Applications for entry to the Fox's Lair Liverpool are being accepted now. Finalists will be asked to make a short presentation to a panel of investors on 28/29 March at The Foresight Centre, University of Liverpool.

Applications and guidelines for the Fox's Lair can be downloaded from www. foxcapital. co. uk by emailing or calling Strive Public Relations on +44 (0)1624 628 994 to have an application sent in the post.

Sanitec to Demonstrate Mobile Disinfection System's Ability to Contain Avian Flu and Catastrophic Livestock Disease Outbreak

Sanitec to Demonstrate Mobile Disinfection System's Ability to Contain Avian Flu and Catastrophic Livestock Disease Outbreak

On December 7, Sanitec Industries will demonstrate their patented mobile Sanitec® Microwave Biohazardous Waste Disinfection System before federal, state and industry officials at major symposium on carcass disposal in Maryland. Earlier this year, Sanitec, which processes medical waste for several thousand healthcare facilities in the US, passed a crucial Avian Flu containment test at North Carolina State University.

Washington, DC (PRWEB) November 14, 2006

(www. sanitecindustries. com) For many it is the nightmare scenario: An outbreak of a highly contagious disease at a major US livestock facility. Experts agree that in the event of such an outbreak, which could send shockwaves through major segments of the US economy and cause panic among consumers, onsite containment must be immediate.

Commenting on Sanitec's successful Avian Flu containment, Dr. Bethany Grohs, a veterinarian with the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Emergency Management who responded to the 2001 outbreak of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) in the United Kingdom as well as the U. S. Capitol Hill Anthrax Incident said, "In the event of a foreign animal disease outbreak in livestock or poultry it will be critical to respond quickly and in a bio-secure manner. Sanitec's self-contained, mobile system for carcass disposal is an important tool to have in the emergency response tool kit. Sanitec's mobile system can be brought on-site, thus reducing the risk of disease spread via animal transport and a self-contained system reduces the risk of environmental contamination."

Among the advantages of the Sanitec system is that it is mobile, fully self-contained and transforms dangerous waste into harmless, unrecognizable matter that can be composted on site or disposed of in any municipal landfill without the need for further treatment or permitting.

Unlike incineration and autoclaves, which merely transform biohazard material into other dangerous waste products including dioxin, Sanitec systems are self-contained disposal units that utilize a microwave disinfection system that eliminates bacterial and viral pathogens.

The National Symposium on Carcass Disposal will take place December 4 - 7 in Beltsville, Maryland. Co-sponsors include the US Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service and the Environmental Protection Agency, and several leading universities.

First-Ever List of the 5,000 Fastest-Growing Business Reports Total Revenue of $194.5 Billion

Acquity Group ranked on the 2007 Inc. 5,000 with three-year sales growth of 333.5%.

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) September 12, 2007

Inc. today ranked Acquity Group (http://www. acquitygroup. com) on its first-ever Inc. 5,000 list of the fastest-growing private companies in the country. The Inc. 5,000, an extension of Inc. magazine's annual Inc. 500 list, catches many businesses that are too big to grow at the pace required to make the Inc. 500, as well as a host of smaller firms. Taken as a whole, these companies represent the backbone of the U. S. economy.

"The Inc. 5,000 provides the most comprehensive look ever at the most important part of the economy - the entrepreneurial part," said Inc. 5,000 Project Manager Jim Melloan. "The expansion of the list has allowed us to tell the stories of larger companies, older companies, and a wealth of companies in industries like Manufacturing and Construction that are underreported in the business media.

Chicago-based Acquity Group delivers integrated solutions encompassing strategy, technology and design (http://www. acquitygroup. com/publish/en/index/interactive_marketing. html) that empower companies to compete and win in the digital economy. Since it began in 2001 the company has been shaping the way technology is used to extend some of the most recognized consumer brands (http://www. acquitygroup. com/publish/en/index/clients. html) in the world.

Experiencing noteworthy growth (http://www. acquitygroup. com/publish/en/index/company/history. html) since its beginning - including 333.5% sales growth over the last three years - Acquity Group has expanded on its Chicago headquarters with offices in Irvine, CA, Overland Park, KS, Scottsdale, AZ and Dallas, TX.

"Acquity Group was founded on a strong entrepreneurial spirit, and we are honored that the growth we have achieved is being recognized by Inc.," said Chris Dalton, CEO, Acquity Group. "We have been able to work with some of the top companies in the world, and this recognition is a testament to the incredible effort our employees put into every project."

The 2007 Inc. 5,000, as revealed online at www. inc. com, reported median revenue of $9.4 million and median three-year growth of 140 percent. Complete information on this year's Inc. 5,000, can be found at www. inc. com/inc5000 (http://www. inc. com/inc5000). The list features a profile for each company, almost all of them written as a result of Inc. interviews with management. In addition, the list is searchable according to numerous criteria, including industry, city, state, region, and year founded.
Hottest Regions for Fastest-Growing Companies -

The Southeast comes in a close third, with 872 companies, followed by the Northeast with 782 companies, and the Mid-Atlantic region with 606 companies.

S.-based and privately held, independent - not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies - as of December 31, 2006, and have had at least $200,000 in revenue in 2003, and $2 million in 2006.

Companies can apply for next year's Inc. 500 and Inc. 5,000 by registering with IncBizNet, the new social network for private companies that will launch this fall on Inc. com.

A Star Solution for Medicaid's 'Tamper Resistant' Prescriptions

A Star Solution for Medicaid's 'Tamper Resistant' Prescriptions

Star Micronics and business partner Standard Register are proud to announce their combined, secured solution for the recent Medicaid request for "tamper resistant" prescriptions. The secured printing solution is available now for hospitals, clinics, and physician's offices. Utlilzing the Star Micronics' TSP800Rx printer and Standard Register's highly specialized security thermal prescription paper. The solution is available today.

Edison, NJ (PRWEB) October 3, 2007

In continuing with its "Always-Leading-Always Innovating" corporate philosophy of Star Micronics America, Inc. and partner, "Managing the Documents You Can't Live Without™" philosophy of Standard Register, are proud to announce their combined, secured solution for the recent Medicaid request for "tamper resistant" prescriptions. The secured printing solution is available now for hospitals, clinics, and physician's offices.

The Star Micronics' TSP800Rx Prescription Printer tackles both the "tamper resistant" and "handwriting legibility" challenges of traditional prescriptions while solving the Medicaid Program Section 1903b (i) of the Social Security Act (42 USC193b) (i), paragraph (23). The new requisition for "tamper resistant" or electronic prescriptions for reimbursement for all Medicaid prescriptions having a proposed deadline of October 1, 2007 and a proposed extension of March 31, 2008 by the NCPA (National Community Pharmacists Association) reinforces the premises and existence of the TSP800Rx printer. Direct thermal printing itself is tamper resistant, any alteration performed on the paper results in a black mark or darkened circle on the paper.

A forged partnership between Star Micronics and a company synonymous to fraud protection, Standard Register, has advanced direct thermal paper technology and thermal prescription printing into an anti-fraudulent and security classification. Standard Register's advanced development of thermal security paper containing individual bar codes for each script for identification and tracking, authenticity test patches for pharmacists of chromatic ink and unique void pantograph backgrounds are the only a few of the chosen features of this highly specialized paper.

The TSP800Rx prescription printer is available today; its features are as unique as the specialized paper it prints on. A very small and compact direct thermal printer with security features of locking paper chambers, capability of a security cable locking system and the inability of unauthorized paper dispensing. Straightforward printing drivers of Windows (Vista®, XP®, 2k®), Linux and Mac are included on a CD are included. A few quick facts about the TSP800Rx printer: printer size is 7" x 8.5" x 5.8"; printing time of a script is 2.2 seconds; specialized thermal prescription paper is available for 48 states, excluding NJ and CA; and there are 500 scripts per roll.
For more information and pricing on the TSP800Rx printer please, contact Star Micronics at 800-782-7636 ext 107, the website for the TSP800Rx printer: http://www. starmicronics. com/Printer/PrinterDesc. aspx? FACT SHEET ABOUT CHRONIC ILLNESS

About Chronic Illness

+ Over 1 in 3 Americans has a chronic condition

and an additional 9 million are cancer survivors

with various side effects from treatment. [1]

+ Despite what we may assume, 60% of those who

live with daily illness or pain are between

the ages of 18 and 64. [2]

+ The divorce rate among the chronically ill

is over 75 percent. [3]

+ Depression is 15-20% higher for the chronically

ill than for the average person. [4] However, the

significance of one's faith has shown to lower

one's risk of depressive symptoms and aid one

in better handling a stressful medical event. [5]

+ Various studies have reported that physical

illness or uncontrollable physical pain are

major factors in up to 70% of suicides [6]; and

more than 50% of these suicidal patients

were under 35 years of age. [7]

+ Those who use their religious faith to

cope are significantly less depressed,

even when taking into account the severity

of their physical illness. In fact, the

clinical effects of religious coping showed

the strongest benefit among those with severe

physical disability. Some 87 patients

hospitalized with serious illness who also

then suffered depression were followed over

time in another study. The patients with a deep,

internalized faith recovered faster from the

depression, even when their physical condition

wasn't improving.[8]

A Place of Hope. com, founded by executive director Dr. Gregory L. Jantz, Ph. D., offers clients from all over the world the opportunity to deal effectively with dire life issues through Whole-Person Care. This comprehensive approach to therapy focuses treatment on the various emotional, intellectual, nutritional, physical, relational, and spiritual dimensions of the individual. SEATTLE (PRWEB) March 13, 2008

Dr. Jantz is a nationally certified psychologist, award-winning author, and popular speaker. As a specialist in this multidimensional therapy, he understands how important it is for counselors and patients to begin treatment by discovering the underlying causes of a patient's psychological state. About ReNu™ Medical:

ReNú's founders and executive staff are seasoned professionals with extensive backgrounds in medicine and pasteurization technology who draw on their knowledge to provide the highest quality reprocessed products available. In addition, ReNú is proud to claim Disabled American Veteran ownership.

Since the company's inception, ReNú Medical has been a pioneer in the HLD reprocessing community. Through innovative research, unsurpassed attention to detail, and superiorly trained personnel, ReNú stands apart from other reprocessors. ReNú has the proven ability to save our client hospitals more money than any others in this industry. ReNú is best defined by our total commitment to ethically provide patient safety, customer service, and maximum cost savings. Through client partnerships with participating healthcare institutions, we promote and manage the reuse of disposable medical devices.

High Level Disinfection offers significant cost saving advantages over sterilization methods. For example, ReNú's non-toxic method of HLD has the proven ability to turn an individual medical device 2-3 times more than a sterilizing reprocessor which equates to 2-3 times the cost savings. Additionally, with our quick turn around time, two weeks compared to 8-12 weeks, less inventory is required thus saving you even more money. Finally, ReNú has the proven lowest discard rate in the industry (less then 10% on average) allowing you to get more devices back. These advantages offer significant savings far above other reprocessors.

High-level disinfection (HLD) is NOT sterilization. Our process uses nothing more dangerous than high temperature water. No chemicals or carcinogens are used as in sterilization methods. We utilize a pasteurization method that reaches temperatures high enough to kill all viruses, bacteria, and a majority of spores. No harmful air emissions are released into the environment and no chemical residue is left on the device. This method is supported by the CDC, APIC, and other healthcare organizations. Besides, HLD is more cost effective, offers more reprocessing cycles per device, and allows a higher turn around time than sterilization

Community Counselling Services Launches On Line e-Therapy

Community Counselling Services Launches On Line e-Therapy

Online e-Therapy is now becoming a popular form for dealing with stress, divorce, depression and other emotional issues.

(PRWEB) January 19, 2005

While E-therapy is a relatively new medium of helping people resolve life and relationship issues, it has become a popular way of seeking help. Utilizing the power and convenience of the Internet to allow simultaneous or time-delayed (email) communication between an individual and a professional therapist. Now people that have little time, are too far away from a therapist or just wish to use the privacy of their home PC, can access therapists on line and to deal with their issues.

The focus of e-therapy varies from person to person and problem to problem. Some people will want to discuss interpersonal relationships, handling situations or learn new ways of dealing with different life stresses. Other people may use e-therapy as an adjunct to other types of services, or to help clarify issues they are currently working through. Still others will use e-therapy to check-in with an objective third-party professional for their life and work on life issues.

In keeping with this new way of delivering a psycho-social service several not-for-profit services have taken to providing therapy via the Internet. While certain types of mental health issues cannot be handled via the e-Therapy medium, issues such as stress and anxiety that is related to work or relationship issues are handled in a solution focused manner. People using the service have found that in using the secure email based therapy allowed both themselves and their counselorÂ’s time to reflect and think through the issues and items.

Some therapists and naysayers have said that e-Therapy is not a way to help oneself. However Dr. John M. Grohol, Psy. D says on his website, "Since the beginning of time, from Aristotle to Freud, pundits who believe they have some unique, specialized knowledge have criticized those who seek to break conservative, traditional modes of treatment. Many such professionals are protectionists, seeking to ensure that specific professions continue to hold their unique position in the world of mental health care. Suggesting that there may be new modalities for helping people deal with their problems upsets this delicate balance between the professions, since such a modality may very well transcend each individual mental health profession."

He goes on to say, Some objections are legitimate, but statements such as "you can't help people with these types of problems online" are absurd, ignoring current knowledge and research. It also ignores the hundreds of people who have already sought out and received this kind of help online.

Of course as mentioned before, this method may not be for everyone, however it certainly is worthwhile checking out. Community Counselling Services having launched the e-Therapy service has seen more people willing to "virtually meet" with a counselor - therapist than ever before. "More people that need help, are finding that this is a more convenient method and surprisingly very willing to go this route" says V. R. Tramov, Director of Development for Community Counselling Services. He went on to say, "It really is a practical way for some people to deal with stresses that affect their lives."

For more information on e-Therapy the web site that is operated by Community Counselling Services at www. therapyonlinehelp. com and offers email therapy, telephone as well as in-person counselling.

World Epoxy Resins Market to Reach 2.1 Million Tons by 2010, According to New Report by Global Industry Analysts

Driven by consumption growth in emerging economies of Asia-Pacific, Latin America and Eastern Europe, world epoxy resins market is projected to reach 2.1 million tons by the year 2010. San Jose, California (PRWEB) December 3, 2007

IPA SBRB Industry Study: Transportation Industry Expresses Greatest Confidence Heading into 2007; Food Service Category Least Confident About Near Term Future

IPA SBRB Industry Study: Transportation Industry Expresses Greatest Confidence Heading into 2007; Food Service Category Least Confident About Near Term Future

The general economy along with costs for energy, health care and materials ranked as leading concerns; every industry to focus on increasing revenue, decreasing expenses during 2007.

Buffalo Grove, IL (PRWEB) December 29, 2006

Small transportation businesses are by far the most optimistic about the economy and opportunities for revenue growth during the next 12 months while the owners and managers of small businesses in the food service industry are far less confident about their prospects, according to the latest International Profit Associates Small Business Research Board (IPA SBRB) study released here today.

In its first comparative study of four major small business categories -- manufacturing, construction and contracting, transportation and food services, the latest IPA SBRB poll clearly indicated that transportation companies believe they will be driving close to full speed ahead during the coming months. The transportation industry recorded an IPA SBRB Small Business Confidence Index (SBCI) of 45.7, which was 5.3 points greater than the 42.7 IPA SBCI index for all businesses regardless of category. Of the four industries studied, the manufacturing sector was the only other to be higher than the overall average with an SBCI Index of 43.2. The construction and contracting group reported an SBCI of 42.04 while the food services industry recorded a 38.8 SBCI.

This also was the first time that the transportation and food services sectors were individually studied by the IPA SBRB. Manufacturing and construction / contracting both were studied at least once earlier in 2006.

Interestingly, manufacturing showed a slight 1.8 decline from the previous study while construction / contracting rebounded 11.3 points from the 31.1 SBCI that was recorded during the summer.

(Analyses on the specific industries will be releases before the end of 2006.)

Optimism in the transportation sector was fueled by the 45.3% of the owners and managers who see the economy strengthening and a prediction by more than 62% of the respondents that they believe their revenue will increase in 2007. Nearly 30% of the transportation category respondents predict they will increase hiring.

The improvement in the construction and contracting industry SBCI was driven largely by the reports from 64% of the respondents that they believe business will be improving in their industry. A full 50% of those respondents believe revenues will increase by more than 10% during the next 12 months.

Nearly 60% of the manufacturing businesses are forecasting revenue growth for the coming 12 months and almost 30% said they would increase hiring.

By contrast, the respondents in the food services category are more pessimistic about their revenue portions for the same period, with 50.3% looking at an increase. Nevertheless, 30.1% plan to beef up their hiring.

This is the first time that results for the IPA SBRB poll were compared on an industry basis. A study comparing regional differences of all small business was issued for the first time earlier this week. The key ingredients for determining the confidence index are attitudes about the direction of the economy, revenue predictions and hiring plans.

Despite the variance in confidence, small business owners were largely in agreement that the most significant issues they are now facing include contending with energy expenses and the continuing increases in the costs of materials as well as health care benefits. The priorities for 2007 are increasing revenue and decreasing expense.

"It is helpful to recognize the differing attitudes of business owners and managers, whether by region or by industry," said Gregg Steinberg, President of International Profit Associates, the largest privately-held provider of management consulting and professional services to small and medium-size businesses in North America.

"While we all are contending with what is essentially the same economy, businesses understand that changes impact nearly everyone differently. That requires staying abreast of even the slightest of changes and implementing specific solutions in response to the challenges," Steinberg added.

The International Profit Associates Small Business Research Board ascertains and reports the opinions of small business owners and managers on a wide variety of topics related to their own businesses as well as national and international issues that may impact their operations.

Participants in the poll provide feedback on significant issues and allow for real-time insight into the state of small businesses nationwide. The universe of participants is developed from among small businesses across the United States. More than 550 small business owners and senior managers participated in this IPA SBRB poll. The IPA SBRB study is a voluntary survey conducted via phone and email. The poll was structured and supervised through an independent resource.

Celsense, Inc Receives NIH Grant to Translate Cell Imaging Technology for Clinical Use

Celsense, Inc Receives NIH Grant to Translate Cell Imaging Technology for Clinical Use

NIH funds human clinical testing of the cell trafficking MRI reagent, Cell Sense.

Pittsburgh, PA (Vocus) June 2, 2009

Celsense, Inc. announced today that it is one of the recipients in a 4-year $1.95M grant from the National Institutes of Health. The funded studies will be the first effort to evaluate Cell Sense, the Company’s fluorocarbon-based magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) cell tracking reagent, for clinical use. Additionally, the studies will garner preliminary data critically important for improving immunotherapeutic delivery strategies in metastatic colorectal (CRC) and other forms of cancer.

The Cell Sense technology makes transplanted cells visible by MRI. Therapeutic cells are labeled ex vivo with the Cell Sense reagent prior to administration to the patient. Cell migration and biodistribution are subsequently monitored using fluorine-19 (19F) MRI or magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS). The key advantage of Cell Sense is that the 19F images are extremely selective for the labeled cells, with no background signal from the host’s tissues. Furthermore, accurate cell quantification in regions of interest is possible.

Existing data from pre-clinical studies using human cells show that the Cell Sense reagent is highly biocompatible inside cells and does not affect their innate function. A clinical-grade version of the Cell Sense reagent has been formulated by Celsense, Inc. and is currently being subjected to mandatory in vitro and animal safety studies in preparation for human trials.

To conduct this project, Celsense has partnered with academia, including scientists at Carnegie Mellon University, where the imaging technology was invented in the laboratory of Dr. Ahrens. Also participating is the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute (UPCI) which is actively conducting clinical trials using immunotherapeutic dendritic cell (DC) vaccines to treat CRC, directed by Drs. Kalinski and Bartlett.

About Colorectal Cancer (CRC)
CRC is the third leading cancer in the United States and the most common form of gastrointestinal malignancy. CRC accounts for approximately 150,000 new cases annually. Immunotherapeutic interventions using live-cell DC vaccines may potentially be effective in CRC patients. To date, the inability to accurately follow the location of the cells after transfer to the patient is one of the critical bottlenecks in the development and delivery of cancer immunotherapies.

About Cell Sense
Cell Sense (patent-pending) is a fluorocarbon tracer agent used to safely and efficiently label cells ex vivo without the use of transfection agents. Labeled cells are transplanted into the patient enabling researchers and clinicians to non-invasively track the administration and migration of therapeutic and/or diagnostic cells using 19F MRI or MRS. Applications include tracking cells in immunotherapy or regenerative medicine as well as diagnosis of inflammatory sites by tracking selected populations of immune cells. Using software developed by Celsense, investigators can quantify the number of labeled cells in a user-specified region of interest. It is expected that in vivo cellular imaging will routinely be used to provide a surrogate biomarker for certain cellular therapeutic and drug trials.

About Celsense, Inc.
Celsense, Inc. is a biotechnology company offering novel pre-clinical and clinical-grade cellular and molecular imaging agents used to non-invasively monitor biological processes in living systems. The core innovations of the Company involve proprietary imaging agents that can be used to observe the trafficking of cells using magnetic resonance techniques. Celsense’s mission is to be the standard for cellular imaging in human health. For more information, see Celsense. com (http://www. celsense. com).

Depression Drugs and Migraine Drugs Don't Mix: Treat Both with One Drug-Free Alternative

Depression Drugs and Migraine Drugs Don't Mix: Treat Both with One Drug-Free Alternative

The U. S. (FDA) recently released a Public Health Advisory to warn patients that mixing certain antidepressants with certain migraine medication could lead to life-threatening complications. Such alerts lead patients to seek alternatives to medicating their pain and depression symptoms. Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is a simple acupressure technique that for more than a decade, has been relieving migraine pain and symptoms of depression. EFT is a drug-free solution and it has no known side effects.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) August 15, 2006

When news breaks that drug interactions pose significant health risks, patients seek healthy alternatives to help manage their symptoms. The Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) website reports significant increase in traffic, making it the fifth most popular alternative health website on the Internet. EFT is a do-it-yourself acupressure technique that claims an 80% success rate in reducing symptoms associated with migraines and depression. It and can be learned freely by downloading the EFT Manual at http://www. emofree. com/downloadeftmanual. asp? ref=prw-depmigrainecw (http://www. emofree. com/downloadeftmanual. asp? ref=prw-depmigrainecw)

A recent FDA Public Health Advisory warns that mixing certain antidepressants, including Prozac and Zoloft, with a certain migraine drug, Triptans, could cause serotonin syndrome, a life-threatening condition. Patients are advised to meet with their doctors before stopping medications. There may be a natural treatment option for people with depression and migraines.

The theory behind EFT states that migraines and depression are symptoms of a disrupted energy meridian system (Chi or Qi) which is put out of balance by unresolved emotional issues. When negative emotions like fear, guilt, and anger are addressed with EFT, the energy meridian system balances, and symptoms of depression, and migraine pain dissipate. Complex cases may take several applications of EFT but most people report an immediate improvement in their depression, and pain symptoms.

Dr. Joseph Mercola uses EFT in his busy medical practice to treat patients with migraines as well as depression. According to Dr. Mercola, “Migraines are another example of a physical problem that usually has an underlying emotional cause. It is very rare where EFT is unable to completely remove the pain of this type of migraine. It usually works within seconds and the relief tends to be permanent.”

Dr. Mercola indicates that at one time, he prescribed antidepressants to thousands of patients. “They seemed to work well for many however; in not one single case did they solve the underlying foundation reason as to why the person was depressed. In 2001, I learned how to use EFT to treat depression and it is very rare where I need to use antidepressants for any patient. I believe I can count the number of prescriptions I have written for them on one hand since I started using EFT.”

One EFT user, Kimberly, wrote to the EFT website with her story of how EFT helped her migraines and her depression. Kimberly had been hit by an SUV while crossing the street. She turned to acupuncture and that helped control her pain where conventional medical treatments had not. One the day of her acupuncture treatment, she developed a serious migraine.

On a scale of 1 to 10, her migraine pain was an 8 and acupuncture needles brought the pain down to a 5, but no further. Her acupuncturist also practiced EFT and asked Kimberly if there was any emotional issue tied to the migraine. Kimberly says, “Suddenly it was as though my brain was screaming at me ‘I hate my job!’ and it took me totally by surprise.”

The acupuncturist did EFT on Kimberly for several minutes and eliminated the migraine pain. Kimberly realized that she was not only pain free, but had an enormous amount of energy, although she usually felt drowsy following acupuncture.

Kimberly says, “I realized something else -- I was actually happy. I hadn't felt happy since the accident. I had been suffering from PTSD and depression, which I had gone to biofeedback therapy for and had "under control" but it wasn't gone. I was just dealing with it. Again, even though we hadn't tapped for the depression, I think a lot of it was tied up with my job issues, and seemed to have cleared up.”

According to Gary Craig, “We see this phenomenon repeatedly when people do EFT for physical symptoms -- their emotional symptoms subside or they address their emotional issues and their physical symptoms disappear. I know of no other self-help tool that gets these consistent results.”

Over 350,000 have downloaded Craig’s free training manual and another 10,000 download it each month. The official EFT Manual has been translated by volunteer practitioners into nine languages.

The EFT Manual explains the basics so that anyone can begin applying EFT right away. It can be freely downloaded at

How Hot Tubs Help Children with Severe Burns

Hot tub manufacturer, Bullfrog Spas, supports firefighters and kids by helping fund Summer camp for children recovering from severe burns.

Riverton, UT (Vocus) September 9, 2010

Bullfrog Spas recently became a sponsor of Camp Nah Nah Mah, a summer camp for children recovering from severe burns. Bullfrog’s monetary contribution to the camp was made through the Salt Lake City Firefighters Association, an organization that helps provide much of the fundraising for the camp.

Camp Nah Nah Mah (Ute for "togetherness in friendship") is located just outside of Salt Lake City, Utah. This annual four-day camp, put on by volunteers from the University of Utah Hospital Burn Center and Firefighters Association, along with many other caring individuals, allows children 6-12 years of age to get to know other children their age who are facing the same challenges in their burn recovery process.

Campers are able to both learn and have fun while swimming, canoeing, rock climbing, practicing archery, creating arts and crafts, and doing many other activities that promote self-esteem. In addition, the campers are provided a safe place to talk with counselors and fellow burn victims and are encouraged to begin to develop strategies for succeeding in their personal challenges.

Bullfrog Spas is always concerned with improving health and wellness and is pleased to be able to support a worthy cause that helps kids in need of critical health care. Bullfrog International also puts every effort into creating products that improve health and wellness.

Recently, immersion in hot water and use of jetted water massages, or hydrotherapy, has been shown to improve both mental and physical health in studies on adults of all ages. Bullfrog Spas are known for leading the pool and spa industry in health promoting hydrotherapy options. Bullfrog’s patented JetPak System offers 18 unique massages that can be interchanged and personalized to provide focused therapy for any individual at any time.

When asked about the support of firefighters and the camp Jaden Kemp, Director of Sales & Marketing for Bullfrog Spas, commented, “Bullfrog Spas is always looking for ways to reward any worthy cause. Firefighters have a difficult and grueling job saving lives. We want to honor their work and the causes that they support.” Bullfrog Spas plans to continue to work on the front lines of health and wellness by continuing to produce hot tubs that improve lives through better health and by sponsoring important facilities and programs like the University Hospital Burn Center and Camp Nah Nah Mah.
