There are currently twelve hospital members of the VSGNE from Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. By studying their outcomes, the group has been able to identify best processes of care and better patient selection algorithms to improve patient outcomes.

S. to attain 100 percent Green Seal certification at the Silver level. At present, 46 of 50 hotels have completed the rigorous application process for Green Seal certification, which includes an on-site audit. Thirty four of the 46 hotels have already received certification. The rest are anticipated to be awarded certification within the next 90 days. The remaining four, including two opening this spring, will begin the certification process this year.

Green Seal certification is an important third-party validation of Kimpton’s more than 80 environmentally responsible operational practices under the company’s EarthCare program, and allows Kimpton to more effectively measure its nationwide reductions in waste, energy and water consumption.

To qualify for GS-33 Green Seal certification, a hotel must demonstrate sustainable practices in the following areas:

What started out as a random act of kindness blossomed into a joy-filled effort that benefited animals, children and senior citizens throughout Albuquerque, thanks to the efforts of students and staff at Pima Medical Institute, 2201 San Pedro NE, Bldg 3, Suite 100 in Albuquerque.

The idea for the random acts of kindness started when the Respiratory Therapy students at the college decided they wanted to celebrate Valentine's Day by doing a good deed. They received permission to hold a bake sale and donated the proceeds to an Emergency Fund for disadvantaged students at Pima Medical Institute.

Then, Holly Woelber, campus director of the Albuquerque campus, attended a conference at an Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools conference in California. While she was there, she won a cash prize that was earmarked by ABHES for students to perform "Random Acts of Kindness". The students were to come up with ideas for kind acts and implement them. PMI's corporate office matched the $125 Woelber won upping the ante to $250.

The various classes at the Albuquerque campus submitted their ideas for kind acts and the following three projects were chosen: donating towels, blankets and toys for the animals at the Northeast Animal Control Center; providing small gifts and interacting with members of a nearby nursing home, and purchasing toys, stickers and books for the children at the University of New Mexico Children's Hospital.

"The response we had to this project was so heartwarming," said Woelber. "One of our students told us of her interaction with a 91-year-old woman. When she offered her a tote bag to decorate, the woman thought there was a fee and said she didn't have any money. When the student told her it was a gift, the woman smiled and decided to decorate one. The student said the woman's smile and laughter was inspirational. Whether it was a child, a senior citizen or a furry friend, the students said they knew they made a difference in the person or animal's life, even if it was only for a couple of hours. It was a great project and one I hope will inspire others to do the same."

On December 9, 2009, Salesian Missions celebrated the inauguration of the new Muyurina Agricultural School and brand new Multi-Use Center in Bolivia. Funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the generosity of American donors made this project possible.

Salesian Missions has been providing agricultural education in Muyurina for over fifty years, according to Matt Welsh, program officer with Salesian Missions. Although the school’s academic and technical programs had grown in size, scope and diversity, many of the original structures that were built in the late 1950s and early 1960s were in desperate need of repair.

When Salesian Missions approached USAID’s American Schools and Hospitals Abroad Program regarding the possibility of assisting with this project in 2006, Muyurina had grown by leaps and bounds since its early days of operation. Today, it is a school of nearly 800 students, offering a range of degree programs, including a post-secondary program that is recognized by the Catholic University of Bolivia.

The new Multi-Use Center provides meeting space for the school and is available for a fee for local clubs and community groups to hold events and retreats in the space. The fee is used as infrastructure support and to subsidize tuition for students.

In addition, this project provided much needed renovation to the school’s electric and water systems and the purchase of agricultural equipment helps to provide a better educational experience for the youth in attendance.

“The agricultural school offers more than just agricultural training,” said Welsh. “This is part of a larger program that also offers traditional secondary education and other vocational training, in addition to feeding programs for area children.”

“Many of the children attending the school come from an agricultural background but often their families have never received formal agricultural education and training,” said Welsh. “The academic preparation provided enables youth to implement farming methods that are more efficient, which increases crop yields and delivers a food supply more readily accessible to their families and communities.”

Meet Ladybug Jane at this year’s third annual 2010 Bel-Air Film Festival (BAFF) as she makes her debut onscreen, and in person walking the green carpet in the garden. Ladybug Jane is a multi-media eco-friendly character who is passionate about her environment and loves to teach kids about making responsible choices in their everyday lives.

Kids will go buggy for this inspiring winged insect. Join Jane Graves, creator of Ladybug Jane, as she and Ladybug Jane host BAFF’s first Eco Family Day on Sunday October 17, 2010 at UCLA’s James Bridges Theatre. The excitement begins at 10:00am when the kids become the stars as they walk the green carpet and have their picture taken with Ladybug Jane. The Ladybug Jane animated short film - “Red Lips Inspires Ladybug Tips” (directed by Rusty Mills “Pinky and the Brain”) will screen promptly at 11:30am (along with two other animated short films). Each child will receive a special gift and photo (online accessible) of themselves with this charismatic ladybug.

Ladybug Jane is the brainchild of Jane Graves – model, actress and research scientist who is on a mission to educate children and their parents through the art of animation, games and creative fun. The idea is to empower families through engaging conscious media so they can make healthy choices in their lives, while respecting the planet – to truly make a difference. Ladybug Jane’s motto is, “It all starts with … One Choice, One Step, One Change.”

When Jane’s mother was diagnosed with cancer, Jane decided she wanted to learn more about how environmental toxins contribute to the disease. Ladybug Jane was inspired by her findings, and her desire to share that information with a younger audience and teach them how to be safe and respect their planet. Jane states, “I want kids to know the importance of being conscious about what they put in, on and around their bodies and about connecting to nature, it’s brilliance, magic and wisdom, and what a big role it all plays in a healthy future.”

This FREE Eco Family Day featuring Ladybug Jane will be filled with engaging and inspiring activities for the whole family – kids yoga, a young people (and mommy) spa area, worm composting and eco-friendly face painting, along with a few other surprise garden creatures and healthy tasty treats.

“Red Lips Inspires Ladybug Tips” offers the viewer an adventure that begins with Ladybug Jane’s best friend Andy the aphid finding a pair of magical glasses that opens their eyes to a whole new reality as they discover the human world for the very first time.

The Bel-Air Film Festival is an independent international film festival dedicated to inspiring filmmakers and providing them with the resources needed to further their knowledge. Most of the films screened are first time premieres in the categories of foreign film, documentaries, animation, short films, student film and comedy. The festival is recognized for celebrating cinema in one of Southern California’s most prestigious and storied communities. Health Is More Important Than Beauty and Wealth for Singletons in 2010

New research by Smooch. com reveals that almost half of us are aiming for a healthier lifestyle in the New Year.

It’s that time of year again when we all evaluate our lives over the past 12 months and set ourselves goals for the year ahead. Every year members of the free dating website (http://www. smooch. com) Smooch. com are asked what they hope to achieve in the coming year, and once again members revealed their goals for 2010.

Nearly half of the members surveyed (48%) hoped to be healthier in the new year. This rose by six percent in comparison to last year. In contrast, only 7% set themselves the goal to increase their attractiveness; this fell from the 10% in the previous year.

With the increased media exposure of issues such as obesity, binge-drinking and the effects of smoking in the past year, it is likely that people are taking note and working from the inside out.

Despite the credit crunch of 2009, only 16% of members aimed to be wealthier in the coming year. Interestingly, this also fell slightly from 18% last year. Whether people feel more comfortable in the economic climate or have simply become accustomed to it is unclear, however it appears to have had little impact on our hopes for the future.

Women were most likely to make resolutions to be more attractive and more healthy in 2010 whilst men were more likely to aim for wealth. In contrast, last year, men were more likely than women to aim for wealth and attractiveness.

Members of the free gay dating (http://www. mancentral. com) and gay chat (http://www. mancentral. com) website ManCentral. com were asked the same question, the results were relatively comparable with that of Smooch. However, in contrast to the 7% of Smooch members, 13% of Man Central members hoped to achieve greater attractiveness through their New Year’s resolution. Similarly, whilst 16% of Smooch members aimed for wealth, 20% of Man Central members surveyed hoped to be richer.

Overall, despite gender, age and sexuality, for the members of both Smooch and Man Central health was their main aim for 2010.

The survey from Smooch also found that:
Cancerians were the most likely to aim for a healthier lifestyle in 2010. Aries’ were the most hopeful of increasing their attractiveness, whilst Capricorns were the most likely to aim for wealth in the New Year. Heterosexual members of Smooch. com were more likely than bisexual and gay members to not make a resolution at all. Younger members were most likely to aim to improve their health and attractiveness, this gradually declined as age increased. Those aged 31-35 were most concerned by their financial status in 2010.

Overall, despite gender, age and sexuality, for the members of both Smooch and Man Central health was their main aim for 2010.
