African Americans Just as Likely to be Diagnosed with Depression

African Americans Just as Likely to be Diagnosed with Depression

A study in the May Journal of the American Geriatrics Society combats the notion that ethnic differences and inherent biases are responsible for a lower number of depression diagnoses in the African American elderly population versus whites.

New York, NY (PRWEB) May 13, 2005

A study in the May Journal of the American Geriatrics Society combats the notion that ethnic differences and inherent biases are responsible for a lower number of depression diagnoses in the African American elderly population versus whites.

Researchers fromMichigan surveyed nearly 180 primary care providers, randomly assigning them to view one of four videos exhibiting commonly accepted traits of a depressed older adult. The actors used in the videos worked from the same script and differed only by race and/or sex. Eighty-five percent of providers correctly diagnosed the “patient” on the video they were assigned.

“Primary care providers are just as likely to diagnose and treat depression in older African Americans as in whites, suggesting that bias based simply on apparent patient race is not a likely explanation for the lower rates of depression diagnosis and treatment in older African Americans,” according to researchers.

The study notes that the management of depression is especially critical in the elderly due to already existing and multiple illnesses. Further, studies show that older adults are less likely to seek specific mental health treatment from psychiatrists, turning solely to their primary care physicians.

This study is published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society. Media wishing to receive a PDF of this article please contact medicalnews@bos. blackwellpublishing. net.

First Commercial Text Messaging Smoking Cessation Service Marks One Year of Operation

First Commercial Text Messaging Smoking Cessation Service Marks One Year of Operation

HSAGlobal's STOMP cited by New Zealand's The Quit Group as key part of innovative quit smoking program

Auckland, New Zealand (Vocus) October 14, 2009

The Quit Group, a charitable trust funded by the New Zealand Ministry of Health, has recently marked one year of successful operation with HSAGlobal's STOMP text message-based smoking cessation service. Branded Txt2Quit, this program has been instrumental in reaching The Quit Group's primary target of 16-to 24-year old New Zealanders (particularly Māori and Pacific youth), of whom 27.3% were reported in 2008 to be current smokers. Coincidentally, this is a key demographic of text messaging users.

STOMP sends smokers trying to quit a series of personalized text messages over 26 weeks. The next-generation service uses text messages based on a clinically-developed program with proven medical efficacy and offers several interactive features. Clinical trials have shown that using STOMP doubled reported quit rates from 13% to 28% after six weeks.

The healthcare industry solutions group of Microsoft recently published a case study on The Quit Group's use of STOMP. The case study can be read online at:
Http://www. microsoft. com/casestudies/Case_Study_Detail. aspx? casestudyid=4000005315

About STOMP
STOMP (STop smoking Over Mobile Phone) empowers smokers to quit by enabling them to be a stakeholder in their own well-being, acting as a reminder that they want to give up smoking and providing distraction and motivation to help them stop smoking. Messages follow a clinically-developed 26 week program with phases building up to the user's nominated quit day, followed by an intensive period and then maintenance. Messages use various intervention techniques including tips on quitting, support while quitting, facts about smoking and the ability for users to respond to multiple choice polls. Users can also send a message to the service when they are craving a cigarette, have accidentally smoked a cigarette or have relapsed and will receive specific support for coping with those problems. Individual users can designate a period each day when they will not receive texts, and the STOMP service can be configured so that it will not send texts during specific times of day, such as school hours. In 2008 STOMP was awarded the Telecommunication Users Association of New Zealand (TUANZ) Award for Innovation in Health.

About The Quit Group
The Quit Group is a charitable trust set up to run quit smoking programs in New Zealand, including the national free telephone support Quitline. Their aim is to reduce the number of New Zealanders who smoke, with a particular focus on Māori smokers. They develop and provide innovative quit smoking programs, television, radio, online and print quit campaigns as well as evidence-based tobacco control facts and figures. The programs are funded by the Ministry of Health. For more information, please visit http://www. quit. org. nz

Digital Signatures for Sharepoint Presented at AIIM Webinar

Digital Signatures for Sharepoint Presented at AIIM Webinar

ARX will participate at the AIIM webinar to discuss how extending Microsoft® SharePoint® with digital signatures enables a truly electronic workflow.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) March 4, 2010

ARX (Algorithmic Research), a leading provider of digital signature (http://www. arx. com/digital-signature-cosign) solutions, will participate at the "Automate Key Processes to Extend SharePoint" (http://www. aiim. org/Events/register. aspx? id=394) webinar hosted by AIIM, a leader in the field of documentation management. AIIM, along with Steve Weissman of The Holly Group, will share on methods for automating key document-centric processes with SharePoint, such as contract management, case management, and invoice processing. They will also present findings from a recent survey on the use of digital signatures in SharePoint and other ECMs. ARX's VP of Business Development, John Marchioni, will present on the benefits of digital signatures for SharePoint (http://www. arx. com/products/digital-signature-for-SharePoint) that enable automated workflows.

The webinar will focus on solutions for the business disruptions caused by the reintroduction of paper into the workflow. This reintroduction prevents organizations from realizing the full benefit of SharePoint, as it prohibits them from fully automating document-intensive processes. A key factor in this interruption is the use of paper for obtaining signature approvals, which can be costly and time-consuming.

With CoSign digital signatures (http://www. arx. com/digital-signature-how-it-works) for SharePoint, organizations can replace slow and expensive paper-based approval processes with fast, low-cost and fully digital ones. Mr. Marchioni will explain the ways in which digital signatures provide a cost-effective solution that can be seamlessly integrated with Microsoft SharePoint and other applications. By extending SharePoint with digital signatures, organizations can realize the true benefits of a fully electronic workflow.

"With the solutions that exist today for automating processes such as obtaining signature approvals, there is no reason for organizations that have invested in SharePoint to continue experiencing back-ups and delays because of the use of paper in their workflows," explains Theresa M. Resek, Director of Webinars, AIIM. "Our goal is to bring to light the ways in which organizations who've already invested in automating their workflows can really experience the true benefits of their investment."

To learn more about digital signatures in SharePoint, watch a digital signatures for SharePoint demo (http://www. arx. com/resources/digital-signature-sharepoint-demo).

The webinar will take place on March 10th, 2010 at 2:00PM (EST). Click here (http://www. aiim. org/Events/register. aspx? id=394) to register for the presentation.

Chicago Restoration Company Offers Over 55% Off Air Duct Cleaning Service

Chicago Restoration Company Offers Over 55% Off Air Duct Cleaning Service

Reducing exposure to potentially dangerous airborne particles can improve indoor air quality and may help create a healthier home or workspace during the cold winter months.

Skokie, IL (PRWEB) December 14, 2010

Sometimes it seems that everyone comes down with more colds or just general malaise during the winter holidays. In general it is thought to be just a fact of life in the winter, but there could be more to that assertion than many people realize. There are several things that can be done to keep homes and offices healthier while it's cold outside, including moisture control, better ventilation, and making sure air ducts are clean. Air duct cleaning may help reduce the chances of exposure to dangerous airborne particles, and through January 15, 2011Chicago Duct and Carpet Cleaners is offering a significant discount on this service.

Here’s the main thing that’s different now than during the warmer weather: For the most part, the windows are always closed. That means at home, in places of business, and the schools where kids spend a big part of every day.

When people spend time in closed environments in which air is continually recirculated, the potential to inhale unhealthy airborne particulates increases. One of the primary culprits? Mold.

The Mayo Clinic published a study reporting that 93% of all sinusitis is caused by breathing airborne particles of mold (http://www. medicalnewstoday. com/articles/14692.php). There are certain types of mold which trigger more active immune responses, and sensitivity level varies person to person. Regardless of the varied sensitivity, they found that chronic rhinosinusitis costs $5.6 billion annually, including $70 million in lost work days.

Common treatments for less serious cases of mold-induced rhinosinusitis include nasal irrigation and oral antifungal medications. Some people who have a higher sensitivity to airborne mold particles can experience some or all of the following symptoms: Irritated eyes, nose and throat; skin conditions/rashes; coughing and wheezing; dizziness; flu-like symptoms; and in extreme cases bronchitis, learning disabilities, chronic fatigue, even arthritis complications and heart problems (see http://www. mold-help. org).

Reducing or eliminating the airborne toxins released by mold – otherwise known as mycotoxins – may have a positive impact on health by improving overall indoor air quality. There are several ways you can go about this:
It is best to keep humidity levels under 60% if possible.

A fan/ventilator should be used when showering, as well as a mold-resistant shower curtain.

Leaky pipes and faucets should be repaired.

Sinks, tubs and toilets should all have a good seal around the base.

Kitchen and laundry areas should be ventilated well. It is also a good idea to clean dryer vents.

If there has been flooding, make sure flooded area has been thoroughly and professionally dried, and mold protected. In many cases, carpet replacement is warranted.

Ventilate the attic – frequently the bathroom vent pulls moisture into the attic, and if the moisture can’t escape the attic, it can take up residence in the insulation and become a prime area for mold growth.

Clean the ventilation system. Mold-produced mycotoxins and other particulates can travel through the air ducts and deposit them in every room supplied by that system.

If mold is suspected, mold testing kits are available at most hardware stores, or professional restoration and remediation companies can test for it.

If mold is found, it should be removed professionally. Without the appropriate mold removal process, the problem could potentially become worse.

During the month of December 2010 and through January 15th, 2011, air duct cleaning by certified specialists with professional HEPA equipment is available for only $199 (normally $349), including free dryer vent cleaning (normally $109). Chicago Duct and Carpet Cleaners can be reached by phone at 888-439-7292 or found online at http://www. airductcleaningchicago. net.

Chicago Duct and Carpet Cleaners is a division of FX Restoration, specializing in air duct cleaning, mold removal, water damage restoration, fire damage restoration, carpet cleaning, junk removal and other remediation services. For further information about air duct cleaning, mold removal or any of the listed restoration services, contact Chicago Duct and Carpet Cleaners at 888-439-7292.

Cayman Resort Helps Preserve Endangered Sea Turtles

Cayman Resort Helps Preserve Endangered Sea Turtles

Guests help researchers by counting turtles and recording their observations on recreation dives

(PRWEB) March 11, 2005

Little Cayman Island – Guests of the Little Cayman Beach Resort, renowned for its outstanding wall diving, are also helping scientists by recording observations of sea turtles while on vacation. Three species of marine turtles actively nest in the Cayman Islands: the green, hawksbill and loggerhead turtles.

Divemasters educate divers to distinguish among the endangered turtle species so they can record detailed information on dive slates underwater, which is gathered for REEF and the Cayman Islands Department of the Environment. From May to October, Resort staff and island residents who have been trained to assist with monitoring surveys, search for signs of marine turtle nesting. The nesting locations are then reported to the DOE Research Officer for data collection and further monitoring to protect the hatchings.

The goals of the Resort guestsÂ’ research are to take advantage of keen observers already in the water and to educate guests to prevent further impact on turtles wherever they might dive in the future.

“We tell divers, if they ever see a plastic bag in the water, while boating, diving or swimming, collect it immediately. Plastic can be deadly to sea turtles when they entangle themselves or it is mistaken for jellyfish and ingested - causing starvation by clogging their digestive system” said Sam Baker, Little Cayman Beach Resort manager. “We want our guests to go home with more than just great dive memories, we want their brains full of information like this that will hopefully be passed on to others.”

To assist Little Cayman Beach Resort in sea turtle preservation, weeklong dive excursions can be booked May to November by calling 1-800-327-3835 or visiting: www. littlecayman. com.

Pre-dive briefings educate guests how to recognize males from females (males have longer tails) and to distinguish among the species in the area. While green, hawksbill and loggerheads nest in the Cayman Islands, the green and hawksbill species are most commonly seen in the water by divers and snorkelers. These turtles, however, are not the same individuals nesting on shore. Highly migratory, these animals may have hatched on beaches hundreds or thousands of miles away.

“Turtles spend different parts of their lifecycle in different areas of the region and even the world,” said Joni Solomon, Cayman Island Depart of Environment (DOE) research officer. “The turtles that nest on Cayman’s beaches are adult turtles that were born on those beaches, spend their lives in a different part of the region and only come back to Cayman waters every 2-3 years when they’re ready to nest again. The smaller juvenile turtles that are frequently seen offshore are part of Cayman’s foraging turtle population. These turtles will only spend this period of their lifecycle in these waters.”

Turtles with flipper tags are also reported to the DOE. When divemasters report the numbers on these tags, scientists can identify the individual turtle, where it was tagged and other documented sightings that form a connect-the-dots route of the turtleÂ’s journey.

“We’re privileged to see these prehistoric creatures under water, especially because we are the ones endangering their existence,” said Sam Baker, Little Cayman Beach Resort manager. “Contributing to the research while educating our guests is our chance to address the issue and hopefully undo some of the damage.”

It’s estimated there were 6.5 million sea turtles when Columbus sailed off course on his fourth voyage to the New World and arrived in the Cayman Islands in 1503. He said his men could walk from one ship to another on the backs of “las tortugas,” the name originally given to the Cayman Islands. Many other hungry sailors followed, sparking the beginning of a long and devastating industry of turtle hunting for meat, shell and fat oil.

Five hundred years later, there are about a dozen nests found on Little Cayman, and the World Conservation Union (IUCN) classifies all three nesting species -- green, hawksbill and loggerhead -- as “endangered,” meaning there is a very high risk of extinction in the wild. Today, the most common threats to sea turtles are coastal development, poaching, pollution and artificial light, which can disorientate hatchlings heading to sea.

With 57 marked and protected dive sites around Little Cayman Island, visitors have the opportunity to get up close and personal with over 500 types of fish and 100 different kinds of hard and soft corals. The 80° F (26.6°C) water is second to none when it comes to clarity and the calm coastal reef areas make many water sports easily accessible. Bloody Bay Wall, a spectacular marine eco-system, is internationally known as one of the best wall diving locations in the world. Readers of Rodale’s Scuba Diving Magazine voted the sister islands of Little Cayman & Cayman Brac the number one spot in the Caribbean for wall diving in the 2004 Reader’s Choice Awards.

A picturesque beachfront resort on a small island paradise just 10 miles long, Little Cayman Beach Resort is a family-owned retreat, known for its “valet-style” diving. Guests put their dive bag outside their room on the first morning and from there it is valuated to the boat where staff maintains it all week. While not diving, there is a full-service spa, restaurant & bar, bicycles to explore the island as well as full island tours, including a visit to see the museum, indigenous iguanas and the Booby Pond Nature Reserve, an animal sanctuary and RAMSAR international wetlands conservation site.

As a PADI Gold Palm 5-star resort, Little Cayman Beach Resort offers complete PADI instruction programs and boasts RodaleÂ’s 2004 ReaderÂ’s Choice Awards for:

#1 Top Wall Diving in Caribbean

#4 Healthiest Marine Environment in Caribbean

#4 Best to see Small Animals in Caribbean

#4 Top Visibility in Caribbean

#5 Top Dive Destination in the Caribbean

How you can help:

Do not touch, harass or grab onto sea turtles for a ride. If frightened, they can dive deeper to escape and run out of air before reaching the surface to breathe again. These are also criminal offences punishable by heavy fines. Do not buy turtle shell products. Recycle plastic, remove trash from the beach and secure trash on boats. Plastic can float thousands of miles in currents and kills turtles and other marine life. Encourage coastal properties in turtle nesting areas to reduce beachfront lighting to reduce hatchling disorientation. Write letters to government officials and conservation organizations in support of international agreements and laws protecting sea turtles from destructive fishing practices. Do not drive on beaches. Do not disturb nesting turtles if you come across them on the beach. Do not feed turtles. Keep lights off the beach by drawing curtains and not using flashlights on the beach at night.

Crushing the Hubble-Bubble Myth - Study Unveils that Hookah Smoking is Just as Harmful as Cigarette Smoking

Crushing the Hubble-Bubble Myth - Study Unveils that Hookah Smoking is Just as Harmful as Cigarette Smoking

Recent findings have disproved the common belief that Hubble-Bubble smoking (Sheesha or hookah) is a safer and healthier alternative to traditional cigarette smoking.

Melbourne, Australia (PRWEB) June 28, 2006

Smoking Hubble-Bubble does not reduce the risk of tobacco exposure – on the contrary, it poses potential harm to health.

The study – co-authored by Dr. Sana Al-Mutairi from the Faculty of Medicine at the Kuwait University – is published by Blackwell Publishing in the July issue of the Respirology, the official publication of the Asian Pacific Society of Respirology.

The health dangers of tobacco or cigarette smoking have long been universally acknowledged, but the recent increased levels of Hubble-Bubble smoking – particularly with younger members of the European and Middle Eastern communities – have been alarming; prompting researchers to conduct a thorough evaluation on the effects of Hubble-Bubble and tobacco smoking on respiratory and metabolic parameters.

In general, tobacco leaf combustion is incomplete and yields both gaseous and particulate components deleterious gases, tar aerosols and nicotine particles. These toxic components are found in both main stream and side stream non-filter cigarettes – hence ruling out the perceived benefit of Hubble-Bubble smoking in place of traditional tobacco cigarettes.

Researchers found that although the mean concentration of cotinine and nicotine in urine samples was significantly higher among cigarette smokers, they were still pathologically high in Hubble-Bubble smokers. Among both groups of smokers who have been smoking for ten years or more, continine and nicotine levels tended to be higher in Hubble-Bubble smokers whereas the cigarettes smokers only displayed higher nicotine levels.

The study also found that the trend for chronic bronchitis symptoms was more pronounced for Hubble-Bubble smokers as compared to cigarette smokers. Both cigarette and Hubble-Bubble smokers also displayed negative effects on good cholesterol – hence increasing their risk of heart attack.

These findings are significant in dispelling the myth that there exists a less harmful form of tobacco smoking. They support existing literature in the conclusion that Hubble-Bubble and cigarette smoking have the same deleterious effects.

Lead author Sana Al Mutairi said, “This study clearly shows that smoking Hubble-Bubble does not minimize the risk of tobacco and it’s potentially harmful metabolites – thus calling for immediate attention for this rapidly growing smoking habit. We need to study and monitor smoking habits in the region and conduct more research on the harmful effects of the other potentially risky by-products of the tobacco mixture consumed in Hubble-Bubble.”

He added, “Remember, nicotine kills in all forms.”

This study is published in the July 2006 issue of Respirology (Vol. 11, Issue. 4). Media wishing to receive a PDF or to arrange for an interview with the authors, please contact Alina Boey, Public Relations (Asia).

International Shipping Standards Bring New Opportunities and Challenges to the Export Logistics Industry

International Shipping Standards Bring New Opportunities and Challenges to the Export Logistics Industry

While the emerging ISPM 15 standards are not all that new, many countries, including Mexico, are preparing for the final enforcement date. Buckeye Diamond is readying for the rush.

S. Charleston, Ohio (PRWEB) September 1, 2005

New standards in pallet treatment (ISPM 15) are causing a stir in the shipping business. Many countries are beginning the scheduled enforcement of this new global standard, and shippers are feeling the pressure to comply. The US will begin enforcement (ISPM 15) Sept 9, 2005.

In March 2002, the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC), an international treaty relating to plant health, passed a measure requiring that all solid wood packaging, (including both hardwoods and softwoods) be heat-treated or fumigated before they can be imported into any of the member countries that are part of the convention. That changed everything in the export pallet and wood packaging business. There are over 180 Countries that are signatories to the Treaty. As member countries began enforcing compliance, more and more shippers began scrambling for compliant pallet suppliers.

To be in compliance with the new ISPM-15 standards for wood packaging the wood must be treated in one of two ways: Heat treatment or chemical treatment. Heat treatment (HT) dictates that the packaging material must be heated until it reaches a minimum core temperature of 56 degrees centigrade for at least 30 minutes. This process must be done by a certified company that is audited monthly by an independent federally certified agency.

Chemical treatment -- or Methyl Bromide (MB) treatment -- requires that the packaging be fumigated with methyl bromide. Buckeye Diamond recommends Heat Treatment as the safest method for two reasons. First, the U. S. EPA is strongly advocating that the chemical methyl bromide be phased out of use due to its toxicity and secondly its alleged effects of contributing to the Ozone level depletion problem.

Today, more than ever, export shippers need a wood packaging supplier that can handle the growing demand for ISPM15 compliant wood packaging. "With current heat treatment capacity of over 100,000 pallets per month and 32 acres of asphalt storage, we believe that we are the largest Midwestern facility in ISPM 15 certified wood pallets and packaging." said Mike McAdow, Vice President of Buckeye Diamond Logistics.

T. Weiss Realty Constructs Next Generation Office Building on Long Island

T. Weiss Realty Constructs Next Generation Office Building on Long Island

T. Weiss Realty constructs class A office building at 324 South Service Road in Melville. The new four-story granite and glass building is located in the heart of Long Island's busiest business district.

Melville, NY (PRWEB) January 26, 2006

Each week more than one million vehicles travel the Long Island Expressway (LIE) past the busy Route 110 interchange in Melville. In the coming months the passengers in those one million vehicles will bear witness to the construction of the Melville Corporate Center III (MCCIII), the new Class A office building currently under development by T. Weiss Realty Corp at 324 South Service Road.

“The site is arguably one of the best in Melville,” said T. Weiss Realty President Ted Weiss. “The value of the corporate signage on the building alone is a powerful marketing tool for tenants. And while MCC III is strategically located in the heart of Long Island’s busiest business district, it also offers direct access to the LIE, avoiding the bulk of the local traffic.”

T. Weiss Realty has thrived on a business model of converting obsolete industrial buildings into modern office space. MCC III is being built on the six-acre site of the former Superior Packaging plant. The existing building was stripped to its steel, and its footprint expanded to encompass 118,050 square feet. The new four-story granite and glass structure will combine functionality and aesthetics within an environmentally friendly design.

“Our approach to the design of MCC III had to consider the monumental events that have impacted business operations over the last five years,” explained Ted Weiss. “Today’s business climate demands secure and uninterrupted power and telecommunications.”

A state of the art communications infrastructure was developed with the lessons of the Northeast power grid failure and Hurricane Katrina in mind. MCC III is the first building of its kind on Long Island to be pre-wired for uninterruptible power supply, telecommunications and security. A self-contained generator insures a seamless continuation of power and telephone service, even in the event of a prolonged widespread outage. The building is further protected by a proximity card system pre-wired to control exterior doors, interior hallways and offices. High speed Internet, digital telecommunications and broadband data network systems are pre-wired as well, as is Wi-Fi access in the conference room, atrium and Internet café.

Signature T. Weiss employer/employee amenities include indoor/outdoor café dining, tranquil meditation gardens, a sun splashed atrium with waterfall and water walls and a proliferation of common space for casual meetings, networking and relaxation.

“Today’s business environment places tremendous demands on all of us. In order to be our most productive, we need a variety of areas where we can work, connect with our co-workers and de-stress,” added Weiss. “All T. Weiss properties provide a variety of indoor and outdoor common areas. Our goal is to design and develop properties that foster a productive, healthy workspace.”

About T. Weiss Realty

T. Weiss Realty Corp. is one of Long Island's oldest and largest developers. Founded in 1969, T. Weiss Realty has developed 11 executive office buildings in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Each T. Weiss Realty property is owner-managed, allowing the company to provide an extraordinary degree of responsiveness to tenant needs. T. Weiss Realty Management Services is a full-service management company responsible for an array of commercial properties across Long Island.

ON Networks Introduces ON Dating: A New Video Guide-to-Success for Online Courtship -- Internet Series, Produced by NBC Universal Digital Studios, Offers Viewers Expert Advice on Finding That Special Someone Online

ON Networks Introduces ON Dating: A New Video Guide-to-Success for Online Courtship -- Internet Series, Produced by NBC Universal Digital Studios, Offers Viewers Expert Advice on Finding That Special Someone Online

Online dating is the fastest growing social phenomenon on the Internet. With 40 million people using online services and more than 1,400 websites to choose from, dating sites have grown into a $700 million venture. But with such a dizzying array of options, where do you start? How do real people find their ideal mate in a virtual world? ON Dating (www. ondating. tv), a new Internet dating advice program, provides the answers to these and other perplexing questions.

AUSTIN, Texas (PRWEB) June 13, 2007

The show functions as a virtual dating coach, dedicated to helping viewers navigate the sometimes treacherous terrain of online romance. Hosted by Andrea Syrtash, a certified dating coach, each ON Dating show serves as a 3-8 minute primer on how to date in the 21st century, offering viewers advice on topics ranging from how to write the perfect profile to proper online etiquette to selecting the site that's best for you.

"In this information age, we all know somebody who has found love online," said Syrtash, a trained life coach who has offered advice on dating and relating in various media outlets including NPR, USA Today and NBC's Today Show. "ON Dating will show you how to stand out in the crowd and, ultimately, become successful in the virtual arena."

To that end, the show juxtaposes real-life success stories with all-too-common pitfalls, featuring quick person-on-the-street testimonials as well as in-studio guests. ON Dating also examines the individuals and companies bringing people together over the Internet and evaluates the newest trends in online dating.

This week's episode features an exclusive interview with Dr. Ian Kerner, a Relationship Expert with Match. com, the world's largest Internet dating site. Reminding viewers that last year alone, more than 500,000 singles found meaningful relationships through Match. com, Kerner encourages viewers to broaden their dating scope through the world of virtual romance.

"Benjamin Franklin said that 'the definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over again and expect a new result,' and I think, prior to online dating, that's what a lot of us would do when it came to romance. We'd go to the same bars and parties expecting to find Mr. or Ms. Right and would usually go home disappointed. With online dating, we now have an opportunity to do new things in new ways."

ON Dating is produced for ON Networks in New York City by NBC Universal Digital Studios, a studio dedicated to creating video content specifically for digital platforms. Viewers can apply the practical advice offered on the weekly show and use ON Dating as a valuable dating resource.

"This audience is very busy and very tech savvy - spending a good portion of their day online," said Matthew Evans, Vice President, Digital Media and head of NBC Universal Digital Studios. "A show like this fits their lifestyle perfectly. The expert advice is presented in a user-friendly format that is both informative and entertaining."

To share the Match. com show or any other ON Dating video, simply select the desired episode at www. ondating. tv and click on the "chain" icon in the player control bar. There, you can view the embedded HTML player code, which can be copied and then pasted onto any web page.

ON Dating is one of several new programs being introduced by ON Networks, Inc. (ON). The show can be watched anytime, anywhere at www. ondating. tv. Denver video production company, Remember When™, records family memories for posterity, preserving life stories through extensive on-camera interviews, music, old photographs and snippets of 8 mm film footage from the past

Denver video production company, Remember When™, records family memories for posterity, preserving life stories through extensive on-camera interviews, music, old photographs and snippets of 8 mm film footage from the past.

Matt King and Fern Bray, owners of Denver’s Remember When™, are masters at turning lives of Coloradoans into wonderful videotaped histories for family and friends to enjoy for many years to come. They meticulously gather old photos and memorabilia from their clients, then – guided with a list of carefully crafted questions – masterfully help clients to tell their life stories on video. Extensive editing follows yielding a state-of-the-art production with razor-sharp pictures in either DVD or VHS format. Finally, Remember When™ helps orchestrate a big-screen premiere for the first showing.

(PRWEB) September 14, 2003

Aurora, Colo.(PRWEB) September 12, 2003 – For the past three years, Fern Bray and Matt King of Remember When™ have been skillfully documenting local lives from their production studio in suburban Denver. They provide film production focused on families.

"Matt and Fern do an absolutely wonderful job of helping their clients open up on tape, plus they are very sensitive and caring as they draw out special memories and discuss delicate feelings. And, therein is the art involved in this valuable process," explains Maggie Chamberlin Holben, a Denver native who has twice used Remember When™ for projects documenting her elderly parents’ lives.

"In 2002, I turned to Fern and Matt to create photo montages for Mother's Day and Father's Day tributes for my parents, Elmer and Helen Roth who reside at the Lakewood Meridian. I recorded comments over video of several hundred photos I'd gathered and taken to Remember When™, telling Mom and Dad just how much I care about and love them. Just recently, Matt and Fern did videotaped interviews with both Mom and Dad, in Mom's apartment at the Meridian. There's even steady cam footage of me bringing Dad by wheelchair from the Health Center to the apartment, which is just priceless.

"My Dad is very ill right now and fortunately I had the motivation, I believe just in time, to preserve all his wonderful stories on video, plus his singing, which I enjoy so much. My Mom was fabulous and very articulate in sharing her memories as Fern questioned her in depth. Both Mom and Dad recorded special messages to me, which I will view often and treasure for many years to come," Holben says.

Subjects for Remember When™ productions tend to be in their 70s and 80s, an interview demographic familiar to anyone who has watched Tom Brokaw's coverage of the World War II generation. As in Holben's case, it dawns on children and grandchildren that their elders have interesting stories to tell, tales worth hearing and remembering fondly in the years ahead.

King brings extensive experience in the film production business to Remember When™. He has worked as a production technician for Disney and other Hollywood concerns, plus has been involved in numerous film and production projects in the Denver area during his filmmaking career. Bray, described by a local newspaper reporter as "a homegrown Barbara Walters," is the interviewer. She guides clients through a list of more than 150 questions designed to jog the memory and get across just who the person really is. Most often taping is done right in the client's home.

Both King and Bray had a personal calling to their unique and special video production business.

King was holding his own Dad's hand when he died of pneumonia a number of years back. Whereas King only had the sound of his Dad's voice left on an answering machine tape and the mere memory of his father's wonderful laugh, King is now making sure others have more and better options for preserving special family memories.

Bray's motivation came from her own daughter asking questions about Granddad. "My daughter said she didn't know anything about my father, and I told her it was time she learned," Bray explains.

"Good camera work is critical, but a production's ultimate success depends on the interviewer's ability to truly engage a subject. That's where Matt and Fern's unique combination of talents qualify them to help local families turn special life stories into personal videotaped treasures," Holben concludes.

According to the stated mission: "Remember When™ is dedicated to the telling and preservation of all peoples history for our loved ones, and future generations." Projects focus on video autobiographies and memoirs, special birthday and anniversary celebrations, family reunions and weddings, funeral services and family gatherings, memorial tributes, pet memories, photo montages and life tributes. DVD authoring and 8 mm transfer are also included in the services offered.

Remember When™ documentaries cost from $500 to $10,000, depending on the number of family interviews performed. Average cost is $3,500. Everyone’s situation is different and complimentary consultations are offered for interested families who want to learn more about Remember When™ services.

"This is such a giving thing," King said in a newspaper interview two years ago. "Ultimately, we're just trying to help honor a human being's stay on the planet."

Matt King and Fern Bray at Remember When™ may be reached at 720-859-1122 or by e-mailing task@qwest. net. The website is http://www. rememberwhenvideo. com (http://www. rememberwhenvideo. com)

Local Virtual Assistant Celebrates Inaugural International Virtual Assistants Day: May 19, 2006

Local Virtual Assistant Celebrates Inaugural International Virtual Assistants Day: May 19, 2006

For most professionals Friday, May 19, 2006 will be an ordinary workday -- but not for Tracey Lawton, a virtual assistant who lives and works from her home office in Findlay. She will be celebrating the first annual International Virtual Assistants Day (IVAD).

Findlay, OH (PRWEB) May 4, 2006

For most professionals Friday, May 19, 2006 will be an ordinary workday -- but not for Tracey Lawton, a virtual assistant who lives and works from her home office in Findlay. She will be celebrating the first annual International Virtual Assistants Day (IVAD).

Proposed by the online advocacy group, Alliance for Virtual Businesses (A4VB), IVAD is now officially registered with Chases Calendar of Events, the recognized authority of special days, weeks and months. IVAD will appear in the 2007 edition and will be held annually on the third Friday of May. The inaugural celebration of International Virtual Assistants Day coincides with a three-day assembly sponsored by the Online International Virtual Assistants Convention (OIVAC) running from May 18 – 20, 2006. Virtual Assistants worldwide will display the free IVAD logo and creed on their websites.

“This day of observance not only allows us to celebrate individual accomplishments, but also affords us the chance to pat the backs of our colleagues as well,” says Lawton, whose company specializes in transcription and administrative support services.

Lawton, a former office manager originally conceived the idea for her business in November 2001. She started a new career in order to have a more flexible working life.

Virtual Assistants or VAs are independent entrepreneurs who work remotely and use the latest technology to deliver professional administrative, creative, managerial, technical, business back-office and/or personal support services to busy professionals. Clients only pay for the time actually spent working on projects and often retain a fixed amount of hours per month for service.

Typical services could include everything from general secretarial and word processing services to desktop publishing, website creation and marketing. Projects are often handled over the phone, by fax, e-mail and even instant messaging. Most attractive is the fact that VAs are also responsible for their own space, equipment, taxes, training, healthcare, insurance - overhead costs that make hiring an employee expensive.

Since 1996 more than 5,000 professionals around the world have become VAs. More than 90 percent of them are highly-skilled working mothers who choose to start their own businesses in order to achieve a better work/life balance. According to a study conducted by Brenner Books in conjunction with A4VB in 2004, the United States accounts for the largest number of VAs followed by Canada, Australia and Great Britain.

“This will be a very special day for everyone involved in the VA industry because it will allow us to bring together all VA organizations and their memberships under one umbrella,” says Alliance for Virtual Businesses founder Sharon Williams. “VAs are making important contributions to the growth and stability of small businesses everywhere, and the establishment of IVAD simply acknowledges all of those virtual professionals who work so hard to honor our creed: Dedication, Experience, Expertise and Determination to Succeed (DEEDS).”
