AHS Announces SHARP Staffing to Improve Overall Hospital Efficiency Through Labor-Cost Management

AHS Announces SHARP Staffing to Improve Overall Hospital Efficiency Through Labor-Cost Management

American Healthcare Solutions understands the difficulties hospitals face when it comes to labor-cost management. In order to target and resolve this growing issue, AHS executives are proudly introducing their SHARP Staffing initiative to the marketplace. This multi-faceted, high-quality service integrates data from various industry resources to develop customized benchmarks that allow clients to better realize their operational aptitude.

Pittsburgh, PA (PRWEB) January 31, 2007

Now that the New Year's ball has dropped and the confetti has settled, focus has been shifted in the business world to what 2007 has in store. While many industries are anticipating a positive market upswing, for some healthcare sectors the forecast may be bleak. With rising concern of expected shifts in reimbursement policy, hospitals are facing new labor-cost management challenges. While struggling to maintain a competitive cost position, the added pressures being placed on hospitals are forcing strain on their overall financial condition. In order to stay on track and forge ahead into the New Year with more ease, these organizations will require added support.

The valuable enhancements identified and implemented through this program result in an achieved balance between labor costs and productivity. In short, SHARP Staffing provides the necessary tools to largely increase hospital-wide efficiency.

SHARP Staffing employs a simple five-step process that yields effective results.

Step 1: A skilled group of AHS consultants will begin by developing a regional peer group defined by client-specific indicators. Hospitals of similar size, structure, location, and specialty are compared using narrow parameters to extract historical, labor-related data to be analyzed. Trends are identified and hospital benchmarks are created from the information obtained.

Step 2: The AHS team continues to tap further resources for additional labor-based research. They conduct personal interviews with hospital management to gain a clearer understanding as to how each department is actively functioning and the costs associated with existing productivity levels. Touring the facility and observing daily hospital activity also allow the AHS consultants to effectively determine labor performance. AHS executes a thorough quality evaluation of all areas relevant to the project.

Step 3: A detailed report is then drafted by the AHS group to encompass a situational overview, supported findings, and structured recommendations for each hospital department evaluated by the SHARP Staffing program. The document is presented to the hospital Board and executive administration by the AHS project managers to gather helpful feedback and discuss future project direction.

Step 4: Once the breakdown of the hospital's current status is complete, the AHS team can either adapt or create productivity tools to meet labor needs and begin to improve the function of each targeted department. Incorporating these efforts with the hospital's budget allows for a more seamless integration of the new processes and procedures. Bi-weekly departmental reports issued by AHS show progress and cost savings as they occur so that corrections to the plan or future staffing needs can be projected.

Step 5: The work of the AHS consultants does not stop there. Project maintenance extends far beyond the commencement of the initial plan. Meetings with hospital management are continually conducted over the life of the program to discuss organizational improvement. Quarterly reports are issued to the Board of Directors to show trending efficiency and financial indicators as SHARP Staffing unfolds. Benchmarks are updated annually, thus moving each department towards best practice standards. As increased accountability becomes a staple of the hospital's organizational culture, significant cost savings are realized and the targets are achieved.

Client hospitals that turn to SHARP Staffing for labor-cost solutions are met with clear success. For every 50 beds, the typical hospital impacts their bottom line by $1,000,000 through the implementation of this program. Clients experience a reduction in agency and overtime hours, as well as the elimination of additional unnecessary personnel to their cost structure. In most cases, this equates to a modest productivity improvement, ranging from 2%-3%. By benchmarking each department's efficiency, hospitals ensure that they are utilizing the correct staffing mix according to their actual volume levels. In addition, they decrease excess labor hours, maximizing the utilization of their current employees. Based on the low overhead of the firm, AHS offers this product at a rate that guarantees clients a 10%-15% return on investment.

SHARP Staffing enjoys many competitive advantages over similar hospital efficiency programs. Clients under the care of a talented AHS team benefit from a two-month turnaround time for initial findings as compared to the average six-month rate that many other agencies produce. Peer group identification, unique benchmarking, clinical staffing grids, position control system development, bi-weekly reporting, and customized tools/training are just some of the many reasons that American Healthcare Solutions' SHARP Staffing is miles ahead of the rest. Unlike many services in the field, SHARP Staffing requires no software purchases nor hospital staff additions to fully deploy all of the features it offers. The AHS system is user-friendly with fast results, allowing hospitals to direct their attention away from the labor-cost management issues they face and onto higher quality patient care.

Obesity Life-Expectancy Study Reinforces the Need for Healthier Toddler Eating Habits

Obesity Life-Expectancy Study Reinforces the Need for Healthier Toddler Eating Habits

SimplyH's Dr. Visser Stresses the Importance of Low-Sugar Nutrition for Kids

LOS ANGELES, CA (PRWEB) March 31, 2005

A new study published in the March 2005 issue of the "New England Journal of Medicine" reports that rapid increases in childhood and adolescent obesity could shorten the future American lifespan by two to five years. The study reaffirms the obesity research being conducted by SimplyH (a global health organization) founder and CEO, Dr. Richard Visser, which finds that obesity prevention is imperative to raising healthy and fit kids, and that healthy, low-sugar eating patterns must be established in early childhood.

"Childhood obesity is becoming more and more prevalent worldwide. This is a pandemic that will define our children's generation," says Visser, "Obese children are at increased risk of health problems such as reduced lung and alveolar capacity, poor metabolism, reduced bone mass, type 2 diabetes, cancer and hypertension."

The objective of the "New England Journal of Medicine" study, which was conducted by some of the nation's top life expectancy experts, was to recalculate the U. S. Social Security Administration's previously released life expectancy estimation of mid-80s by including obesity health risk factors in their research methodology. The researchers projected the average American's life expectancy over the next 10 to 50 years to decrease by two to five years if the rate of obesity continues its steady growth. (1) These results provide support to Visser's assertion that establishing healthy eating habits for toddlers and preschoolers is beneficial to raising healthy children and adolescents and will aid in curbing obesity rates.

Visser recently lectured on the obesity pandemic and its accompanying health risks at the Natural Products Expo West, the largest natural products tradeshow in North America. "This is the first generation of children that is expected to live shorter lives than their parents," Visser said.

Visser's work with University of Minnesota affiliates has led to the development of Toddler Health (TM), a low-sugar, all-natural nutritious drink mix for toddlers and preschoolers aged 13 months to 5 years. SimplyH's Toddler Health drink mix is the first of its kind nutritional source that aids in adding essential vitamins, minerals, protein, immune boosters, antioxidants, prebiotics, probiotics, fiber, phytonutrients and DHA to a toddler's diet in a drink mix medium.

SimplyH, www. toddlerhealth. net, focuses on products and services for the mind, body and spirit. Based in Los Angeles, Calif., SimplyH is a division of Visser Holding Group, established in 1967. The company stands firmly on a foundation of quality by offering products that contain all-natural and organically grown ingredients.

The How To Spot a Dangerous Man Program hits the workshop market across the U. S

The How To Spot a Dangerous Man Program hits the workshop market across the U. S.

The Dangerous Man Workshops provide in depth teaching to women on issues of dangerousness/pathology that is not normally taught to lay persons. The workshop has the capacity to be both preventative for women who have not yet chosen a dangerous man, and interventive for women who are already on the path of selecting dangerously. Eight categories of dangerousness, women's internally wired red flags system and it's importance, and women's own sabotaging behaviors help them develop their own personalized Do Not Date list of characteristics taken from their own experiences. The book 'How to Spot a Dangerous Man BEFORE You Get Involved" and the workbook by the same name, will be out in Nov 2004 by Hunter House.

(PRWEB) July 24, 2004

Workshops have already been given in Florida and North Carolina to hundreds of women through community agencies, churches, colleges, and women’s centers. The Dangerous Man Workshops are modeled from the soon-to-be-released book, workbook, group leader curriculum and videos “How to Spot a Dangerous Man BEFORE You Get Involved” which train women how to detect dangerousness in men.

Research indicates women date 4-5 dangerous men before they make selection changes. Often by then, it is too late. Women mistakenly think that “dangerous men” only means violent. But EIGHT categories of dangerousness are identified in the workshop—many of these categories have not been recognized by women.

Workshop content includes:

Spotting dangerous and hidden behaviors

Recognizing verbiage of Dangerous Men

Sabotaging behaviors of women

Why women pick 4-5 Dangerous Men before they stop

Understanding why you ignore your Red Flags

Reconnecting to your Red Flags so they are working for you

Uncovering every insight from your dating/marrying life to teach you about your selections

Developing your own Do Not Date list of characteristics from your own experiences

Universal signs of a bad dating choice

Predatory type men

Symptoms of addictive behavior, covert mental illness, malingering violent tendencies, as well as symptoms of a hidden past, and men who are emotionally unavailable

Sandra L. Brown, M. A. is a psychotherapist and author who worked for 15 years in victimology and psychopathology as the founder and director of Bridgework, Inc. It was from these years of working with both victims and perpetrators that she began to see the correlation between who picks who and why. From treating both sides of victimization, Sandra felt that there is a piece missing for women who keep repeating these patterns—the piece is not understanding what dangerousness is and looks like.

When asked why she wrote the book, Sandra replied, “I kept watching women pick the same guy with a different face over and over again or going back home to the same very dangerous man. And it occurred to me as a pathologist, that we don’t give the information about pathology out to the general public. This is not something we ‘train’ lay people in which is precisely why I think these women continue with various versions of dangerous men. I began to teach women everything I knew about pathological and dangerous men. It was then that I began to see them make different choices. They did not have the information they needed to choose differently. The Dangerous Man Program, thru workshops and books, teaches psychopathology to the lay woman because all pathology is not just the Ted Bundy-kind-of-guy. Pathology has many faces and harms in a lot of different ways.

Here is what others are saying about the Dangerous Man Workshops:

“We hosted one of Sandy’s seminars and I was on the edge of my seat! While the content was aimed at women or about women, as the pastor of the sponsoring church I found the material she presented critically important. Within a week, I was counseling a woman who was engaged to be married to a dangerous man. From what I learned at the seminar, I was able to identify his characteristics and warn her of the impending danger. I have been counseling for 25 years and I didn’t know this stuff.” Pastor Phil Engelman, Crystal Cove Community Church (SBC)

“The Dangerous Man workshop and materials clearly outlined normal looking but toxic men who systematically search for women. It gave these women the courage and knowledge they needed to get out of the relationships while there was yet time. It was invaluable training as well to my entire staff who works exclusively with women. We turned people away at the door and plan to rent a bigger facility for the next time she is available.” Jan Walters, Director, The Pinellas Pregnancy Center

“As hard as it is to say, I found out in Sandra‘s workshop that I am a Dangerous Woman! Everything described in these dangerous relationships about men I have done at one time or another. It was the wake up call I needed. I found a good Counselor and I am in counseling now--for however long it takes until this is dealt with. Maybe I will have a healthy future now…” Hannah, attendee

“I saw every relationship I have ever had presented in that workshop! I was progressively choosing more and more dangerous relationships the longer this was undealt with. I think this workshop and the book has the potential to revolutionize insight for women. It’s just amazing.” Deidree, attendee

“Sandy has compressed years of knowledge and experience from her hundreds of clients into an easily understandable format for understanding pathology. The lay public really never gets to hear it like this--or understand it. It’s why women keep getting clobbered by undetected predators. We need to hear this, learn it, and TEACH it.” Randy Evans, M. S

Finally a “Real” Ephedrine Replacement!

Finally a “Real” Ephedrine Replacement!

WARP 9 hits the shelves

NEPTUNE, NJ (PRWEB) September 29, 2004

The current ban of ephedrine has sent manufacturers of dietary supplements scrambling to find alternatives to the popular weight loss compound. Early so-called ephedrine "alternatives" were embraced by retailers but rejected by consumers because the supplements didn't provide the see and feel benefits ephedrine users had become accustomed to.

However, a new scientifically advanced formula just might be the ephedrine replacement everyone has been waiting for. The stimulant type diet pill, called WARP 9 (from DynaPure Nutrition(TM), of Neptune NJ), has been developed with see and feel benefits of ephedrine but safely keeps the bodyÂ’s natural metabolic processes in charge.

According to company literature (www. dynapurenutrition. com), the new patent pending weight loss sensation is actually a combination of amino acids, nutrients and herbs that mimic ephedrine and help step up metabolism, boost energy and provide enhanced brain activity.

But is the new supplement safe? Dan Maiullo, CEO of DynaPure says "Studies on the weight-loss and stimulant ingredients of WARP 9 show the compounds to be well tolerated, but anyone who chooses to use any stimulant-based diet pills should consult with their physician, be in overall good health, and use the pills as directed. We developed WARP 9 with safety in mind and all the ingredients in the product have been used safely for as long as I can remember. No risky unknown ingredients are used.”

GFY Nutrition, exclusive distributor of WARP 9, is careful to point out that this has been the closest product resembling ephedrine that they have seen to date and the ingredients have solid substantiation to support its weight-loss claims. GFY President John Raimondo said "Our retailers tell us it's the ephedrine like energy and effects on appetite that's been bringing people back to their stores for more WARP 9."

So how does WARP 9 work? Pete Maletto, the company Chief Science Officer and noted nutrition expert explained, "WARP 9 mimics ephedrine through the four key biochemical mechanisms in the body. Firstly, WARP 9 boosts metabolism by increasing adrenalin, which then raises noradrenalin, the brain’s version of adrenalin. This adrenalin/noradrenalin increase stimulates brown fat, which is the only metabolically active fat in the body. This brown fat causes the body to burn excessive white fat like the fat around our midsections. Secondly, WARP 9 decreases appetite by enhancing specific chemical messengers in the brain and thirdly increasing another hormone called Cholecystokinin (CCK) triggering the “I’m full” signal. The fourth and final key is the added lipotropic fatty acid metabolizing effects and the co-factors of many other micronutrients WARP 9. The basic idea behind the WARP 9 formulation is the scientific understanding that when you raise your metabolism you raise your appetite and we addresses this problem. Other products in the market place give you the metabolic boost but they all forgot to address the appetite issue in their formulation. By studying the brain chemical monoamine effects of ephedrine you would understand how to formulate a real replacement that would reduce appetite as effectively as ephedrine. The result is identical weight loss and energy benefit that the consumer can see and feel.”

What about those who are sensitive to stimulants? "We actually address this issue in the formulation by using certain amino acids that calm and take the edge off," Maletto said.” As an added benefit WARP 9 also reduces the end of day crashes that ephedrine once produced. We studied ephedrine, and made it better and safer to really produce a optimal healthy replacement.”

The makers of WARP 9 are preparing an aggressive US marketing campaign and Phil Loprete of GFY says. "I noticed when I ran on the treadmill my appetite increased, so I started taking WARP 9 and my appetite just seemed to disappear immediately. We really expect sales of WARP 9 to continue to climb and to help millions of people safely lose weight."

MEDai, Inc., a leading provider of advanced solutions for healthcare that utilize award-winning predictive modeling technology, headquartered in Orlando, FL, announced earlier this week that Diane Lee, Executive Vice President, and Ogi Asparouhov, Ph. D. Senior Scientist, at MEDai will contrast individual versus group predictive modeling for group renewal underwriting at the upcoming Predictive Modeling Implementation for Underwriting conference January 31 in San Francisco, CA.

The presentation will compare the advantages and disadvantages of empirical models that are developed to predict individual member versus those that are developed to predict member groups. Time will be spent showing how the strengths from each of these can be combined to create the most accurate predictions for underwriting renewal.

For more than a decade, MEDai’s predictive modeling application Risk Navigator Clinical has accurately forecasted prospective high-risk patients to improve patients' health and quality of care while controlling cost. The advantage of MEDai's prediction engine is its use of the right combination of linear and non-linear models to correctly "fit" the characteristics of the client's population. In addition to forecasting those that are high-risk/high-cost, Risk Navigator Clinical allows care managers to quickly identify members with the greatest impact potential from both financial and quality of life perspectives, improve underwriting accuracy and increase renewal rates.

ArtJen’s Impressive Weapon In The War On Obesity Now Available In Southern Ontario’s Health Smart Drug Stores

ArtJen’s Impressive Weapon In The War On Obesity Now Available In Southern Ontario’s Health Smart Drug Stores

ArtJen is pleased to announce that its new weight loss product FBCx is now available in all Windsor and area Health Smart Drug Stores. This marks the first time that ArtJen’s dietary weight loss supplement has been made available in Canadian pharmacies.

(PRWEB) February 9, 2006

ArtJen Complexus Holdings Corp. is pleased to announce that its new weight loss product FBCx is now available in all Windsor and area Health Smart Drug Stores. This marks the first time that ArtJen’s dietary weight loss supplement has been available in Canadian drug stores. In an effort to differentiate FBCx from products that make similar claims ArtJen has avoided placing FBCx in pharmacies. This change on ArtJen’s part was made possible by Health Smart’s agreement to place FBCx on the pharmacy counter.

George Grunberger, M. D., K-L Catherine Jen, Ph. D. and Joseph Artiss, Ph. D. recently presented the findings of their double blind placebo controlled clinical trial on obese volunteers with type 2 diabetes at both the June meeting of the American Diabetes Association and the October meeting of the North American Association for the Study of Obesity. Important conclusions to the Clinical Study include:

FBCx is effective in reducing and/or maintaining body weight in patients with type 2 diabetes.

FBCx is effective in reducing elevated blood lipid levels.

FBCx can be easily incorporated into a diabetes management regimen.

FBCx was shown to bind more than 9 times its own weight in dietary fat in human volunteers.

Dr Grunberger, of the renowned Grunberger Diabetes Institute states that: “About 90 % of his patients with type 2 diabetes are obese and that obesity is the number 2 preventable cause of death in the U. S.” Before FBCx, “There was no known effective way to keep weight off.” Said Dr Grunberger “This discovery, which can help shed pounds or prevent weight gain, is a real progress.” Dr Jen said “Unlike claims made by others, this product actually works.”

The important results of this clinical trial could change the dietary management of patients with type 2 diabetes. Subjects in preclinical trials, including non diabetic patients showed dramatic and consistent weight loss. Many reported significant weight loss in the first few weeks and over 40 pounds of weight loss have been recorded. Employing a natural fiber each 1 gram tablet binds more than 9 grams of dietary fat effectively preventing the fat from being absorbed by the body. Dr. Artiss said: “There’s too much information to go into detail here, however, there is more scientific information available at our educational website: www. artjen. net. Artiss also notes that the original animal study that he and Dr. Jen conducted can be found in the February issue of the scientific journal Metabolism Clinical and Experimental.

By taking the recommended 2 tablets per typical North American meal results in a safe weight loss of 1 to 1.5 pounds per week. The product is now available under the FBCx name, Fat Binding Complexer. A US patent has been awarded to the ArtJen Company for FBCx, worldwide patents are pending.

A complete list of retailers may be found at www. artjen. net by clicking on “Shop In Person”. Purchases may also be made online at www. artjen. net or by calling toll free 1-877-4-ARTJEN.

Baptist Adds New Live Feature to Its On-Line Medical News

Baptist Adds New Live Feature to Its On-Line Medical News

Baptist has added a new monthly feature called Med News Live located at http://www. mbhs. org/mednewslive.

Jackson, Miss. (Vocus) October 13, 2009

This summer, Baptist created a new section on its website called "Baptist Medical News Network" at www. mbhs. org/mednews (http://www. mbhs. org/mednews). It's a place where all press releases, surgical videos, community seminars, employee news and other news regarding Baptist Health Systems can be stored. Now, Baptist has added a new monthly feature called Med News Live located at http://www. mbhs. org/mednewslive (http://www. mbhs. org/mednewslive).

"Each month, Baptist hosts community seminars at our facility with physicians and sometimes clinicians discussing various health topics. Since these seminars have a good attendance, we wanted to reach out to those who might not be able to get away from their home or office for a lunchtime or evening seminar. We wanted to bring health information to them with just a few clicks of a button," said Baptist Spokesman Robby Channell.

Channell continued by saying the hospital finds more and more people are seeking health information via the Internet. "Our Medical News Network page is a place to store all external communication information. We can upload everything from event photos to videos of medical procedures."

Launching this section of the website was timely. Baptist recently signed up with Twitter, launched a YouTube channel, and created a Facebook page. Videos are uploaded to iTunes as well. Channell said he is not sure what to expect from embracing social media. "Besides, what is 'social media' anyway?" Generally, it's a set of Internet tools enabling a group of people with common interests to connect with one another to learn, play, work, organize and socialize.

Baptist started by launching Women's Health Inside Out weekly podcast series in November 2006 with 157 listeners. In April 2009, there were 903 listeners.

"This podcast series was something unique we wanted to try since we were opening a new women's facility and rebranding our women's services," explained Channell. "It was just the tip of the iceberg where we focused on audio interviews with clinicians and then dabbled into video podcasts known as vodcasts. Now, we are uploading surgical procedures to YouTube as well."

For the past couple of months, Baptist has been hosting these live webinars. Baptist Public Relations Coordinator Rhonda McRae serves as the host for most of the sessions. She works with different physicians and clinicians to see what topics might be appealing to Internet viewers.

"This is something new for Baptist we wanted to test. A key feature of a webinar is its interactive elements," added Channell. "It's the ability to give, receive and discuss information in real time. People can email questions during the live broadcast."

The next live webinar will be Wednesday, October 14, 2009, featuring Clinical Psychologist James H. Brown, PsyD, talking about ways to deal with stress and tips for managing a busy lifestyle. Especially if you are a caregiver-to the very young or the very old-join us to find out ways to get help. To view, visit www. mbhs. org/mednewslive (http://www. mbhs. org/mednewslive) at 12:15 pm central standard time.

"In today's 'social media' climate, I come in to the office with my cup of coffee focusing on the topic I need to 'tweet' about for the day. What does Baptist need to communicate to its Facebook fans? Then, which surgical procedure can we upload to YouTube?" Channell concluded. "I wake up wondering how to use the World Wide Web to let people know Baptist is a resource for wellness and staying healthy."

Webinars for the rest of the year will be live at 12:15 pm CST on November 11 discussing "Merry Christmas to Me, Part 1: Botox and Injectable Fillers" with guest speaker Plastic Surgeon William Wallace, MD and on December 9 the second part of "Merry Christmas to Me, Part 2: Treatments for Varicose and Spider Veins" with guest speaker Cardiovascular Surgeon William Harris, MD.

DuPont Opens New Photovoltaic Technical Center in China

DuPont Opens New Photovoltaic Technical Center in China

Accelerating R&D and Technical Support to Meet Fast Growing Solar Market

Shanghai, China (Vocus) May 4, 2009

DuPont today opened a photovoltaic (PV) technical center at its China global R&D Center in Shanghai to support material developments for the fast growing crystalline silicon photovoltaic solar energy market. DuPont expects to nearly triple its annual photovoltaic sales to more than $1 billion in 2012.

This newly established facility contains three labs that focus on processes including cell to module manufacturing, PV metallization and PV module and reliability testing. The new PV technology center provides integrated research, development and technical support for customers in the PV industry in China.

"China is a key market for DuPont and will remain so, in spite of the global recession," said Douglas Muzyka, president -- DuPont Greater China. "The center will allow us to collaborate more closely with our customers in the PV industry, to provide technical support and to develop new materials technologies to meet the market needs. Through this partnership, we will be able to help create solar modules that run more efficiently, last longer and make solar energy a more viable alternative for everyone. This new technology center is a prime example of how DuPont is implementing its global strategies in China."

In 2008 the output of crystalline silicon PV cells and modules in China was about one third of the total volume in the world. In response to the rapid expansion of demand from the China market, the PV technical center, with evaluation facilities resembling its customers' production lines, can conduct more systematic product evaluations, troubleshoot issues more quickly and modify material properties for maximum performance. The center will additionally play a key role as a technical focal point, connecting the China market with other technical networks in the region and with the Experimental Station, DuPont's global R&D headquarters in the United States.

"DuPont Photovoltaic Solutions is accelerating its ability to deliver innovations that will improve the lifetime and efficiency of photovoltaic modules, while helping lower the cost per watt of photovoltaic modules," said Marc Doyle, global business director -- DuPont Photovoltaic Solutions. "DuPont has recently made significant investments in product development and capacity expansions for leading brands critical to photovoltaic cell and module manufacturing, including DuPont™ Solamet® photovoltaic metallizations, DuPont™ Tedlar® polyvinyl fluoride (PVF) films and the DuPont™ PV5300 Series PV of encapsulant sheets."

The China R&D Center is located in Zhangjiang High-tech Park, Pudong, Shanghai, one of China's national level technical parks dedicated to high-tech start-ups and research organizations. The total investment for the center to date is approximately $25 million. DuPont 2008 net sales in greater China were $2.07 billion. Initially, the facility housed 100 people when it opened in 2005 with a planned expansion of up to 400 scientists and technicians. The facility was designed to provide support for research, application development, training, technology transfer and licensing of DuPont technologies for China, Asia Pacific and global markets. The center also will provide an enhanced platform to enable technological exchanges and research collaborations between DuPont and leading Chinese and Asian universities and research institutes.

In addition to solar, DuPont is providing key innovative products for the wind, biofuels and fuel cells industries that advance energy efficiency and deliver alternative energy sources to reduce the global reliance on fossil fuels.

DuPont is a leading material and technology supplier to the photovoltaic industry with more than 25 years of experience in photovoltaic materials development and manufacturing. DuPont Photovoltaic Solutions represents the broadest portfolio in the solar energy industry, with more than 10 products critical to photovoltaic production, designed to work together to help increase the efficiency and lifetime of solar modules. CSL Behring Announces GameFaces™, a New Program to Promote Physical Activity in Patients with Hemophilia A

CSL Behring Announces GameFaces™, a New Program to Promote Physical Activity in Patients with Hemophilia A

Hemophilia patients, families take part in physical challenges as a fun, safe way to stay active and fit.

King of Prussia, PA (PRWEB) October 22, 2008

CSL Behring today unveiled GameFaces™, a family-oriented online initiative for patients with hemophilia A. GameFaces is designed to encourage real-life physical activity through customized challenges based on the individual's disease severity.

CSL Behring, the providers of the hemophilia treatment Helixate® FS (Antihemophilic Factor, Recombinant), developed GameFaces to inspire hemophilia A patients to participate in physical activities and also to allow them to feel connected to other patients with this serious bleeding disorder. Registering for the program now at www. HFSGameFaces. com will provide hemophilia A patients with the opportunity to win a Nintendo Wii™ game console prior to the program's launch in November. Nintendo Wii has been recognized as the next generation of video games and is known to inspire physical activity through games that require movement.

"Daily physical activity is important for young people with hemophilia A because it keeps their muscles healthy, their joints strong and it boosts their self-esteem," said Garrett E. Bergman, M. D., Senior Director Medical Affairs, U. S. Commercial Operations at CSL Behring. "GameFaces reinforces CSL Behring's commitment to promoting physical activity for this patient population. Leveraging kid-friendly technology, this program can inspire them to take on new physical challenges that are safe and healthy options for individuals with bleeding disorders."

Through their own GameFaces character, hemophilia A patients can participate in the program's challenges, which will be customized based on the severity of their medical condition. Challenges include both outdoor and indoor activities, such as playing a physically active video game like the Nintendo Wii, which patients can complete on their own or with family and friends. Participants track their progress by logging on to the program's website at www. HFSGameFaces. com. When a participant has completed a challenge, he or she will be entered into another sweepstakes where they will have the opportunity to win a Nintendo Wii game console. Children under 18 must have a parent's permission to join.

About Hemophilia:
Hemophilia is an inherited bleeding disorder characterized by prolonged or spontaneous bleeding, especially into the muscles, joints, or internal organs. About 17,000 Americans have hemophilia. The disease is caused by deficient or defective blood coagulation proteins known as factor VIII or IX. The most common form of the disease is hemophilia A, or classic hemophilia, in which the clotting factor VIII is either deficient or defective. Off-Campus Meal Plan Arrives in Kalamazoo Students Choose Their Favorite Restaurants, Parents Rest Easy

Off-Campus Meal Plan Arrives in Kalamazoo Students Choose Their Favorite Restaurants, Parents Rest Easy

The Off-Campus Meal Plan (OCMP) is offering its meal card to Western Michigan University, Davenport University and Kalamazoo College students beginning this fall semester. Students can choose to dine at their favorite local restaurants without needing cash or a credit card.

KALAMAZOO, MI (PRWEB) August 27, 2005

Come the 2005 fall semester, students of Western Michigan University, Davenport University and Kalamazoo College will have a choice in where they can eat. Instead of eating a standard meal in their school’s dining hall, students can eat at their favorite restaurants in town or have food delivered to their door without using their pocket cash or racking up their credit card bill by using The Off-Campus Meal Plan (OCMP®).

OCMP polled students to find out where they like to eat. OCMP delivered - now students can eat where they want with the convenience of swiping their OCMP meal card. More than seventeen restaurants in the Kalamazoo area accept the OCMP card as a form of payment for studentÂ’s meals and more restaurants are expected to sign on during the fall 2005 semester. Students of Western Michigan University, Davenport University and Kalamazoo College will simply flash their OCMP card when eating at restaurants of their choice, like Qdoba, DominoÂ’s Pizza and QuiznoÂ’s, among others.

“Since this is the first time anything like OCMP has come to Kalamazoo, it is very exciting. For the last couple of years, we have received thousands of e-mails and phone calls from parents and students of Kalamazoo area colleges asking for us to bring them this program,” says David Diana, President and Founder of OCMP.

“For over 10 years, OCMP has provided meal plans to hundreds of thousands of students across the country, giving them the freedom to eat, by using a meal card, just like they were at the school dining hall, but now at off-campus restaurants,” says Michael Hauke, Vice President.

Not only can students eat what they want, where they want and when they want, they can enjoy discounts on their food, meaning less meals used on their card. OCMP participating restaurants offer frequent discounts that are displayed at their store and on OCMPÂ’s Web site. When students visit their local eatery they simply flash their OCMP card to enjoy these discounts.

“OCMP has transformed campus eating. By offering the plan, we’ve increased the amount of students eating at our store and the students have a healthy alternative,” says Vincenzo Sorriso, Owner of Saladworks, one of the hundreds of restaurants that accept the OCMP card across the country.

“As a parent and as a restaurant owner, I really see the value in the (OCMP) card. Not a day goes by that more OCMP cards come through my register, than cash or credit, and the kids just love it,” says Larry Severance, Owner of the Loose Goose Café in Amherst, MA.

Parents get the added peace of mind of knowing that the OCMP meals are only redeemable for food and are thankful that their kids cannot create credit card debt. The OCMP card is also secure, a picture ID and pin number are needed when using the card. With OCMPÂ’s easy to use meal plan, Western Michigan University, Davenport University and Kalamazoo College students now have a safe, easy and reliable way to eat at their favorite restaurants whenever they want.

Parents and students can enroll in OCMP within a few minutes, keep track of and update their accounts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, instantly, and discover new participating restaurants by visiting www. ocmp. com or by calling OCMPÂ’s World Headquarters at 888-211-6267.

About OCMP:

The Off-Campus Meal Plan (OCMP®) was founded by David Diana in 1995. Wanting an alternative to his own campus’ meal plan, David established a business that would offer students an affordable, easy-to-use meal plan to use at their favorite off-campus restaurants. It began at the University of Massachusetts, his alma mater, and has evolved into over 40 universities across the U. S.

NHS Mid Essex Prescribes Wireless Network For New Hospital Wing

NHS Mid Essex Prescribes Wireless Network For New Hospital Wing

Selects Aerohive to Support Acute Healthcare Services and Infection Control

Santa Clara, Calif. (PRWEB) April 27, 2010

Aerohive Networks (http://www. aerohive. com), creators of the award-winning cooperative control wireless LAN (WLAN) architecture, announced today that Broomfield Hospital, part of Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust, will significantly extend its existing Aerohive Networks’ WLAN infrastructure by adding a further 300 access points to cover a new five-storey wing which will house 365 beds, five operating theatres, A&E department, maternity unit, pharmacy, and rooftop helipad. The extension of the wireless network will support acute healthcare services and, by enabling applications such as RFID tagging of equipment like mattresses and trolleys, help to improve infection control. The new wing is funded by Private Finance Initiative (PFI) and is due for completion in August 2010.

Aerohive's cooperative control HiveAPs require no network controllers or overlay networks. Instead, software in the HiveAPs enables them to self-organize into groups called Hives. The result is a secure multi-service WLAN infrastructure able to support a vast array of wireless devices, application types and service levels, with faster client performance, wire-like resilience and lower capital and operational costs.

Mike Casey, Director of IT for Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust, is leading the IT strategy for the new wing; “Having already deployed an Aerohive WLAN at Broomfield Hospital, we were confident of its capability to scale and support the innovative applications we are investing in as part of the hospital’s expansion. Alongside traditional healthcare products such as Medical Tablet PC’s and computers-on-wheels, we want to use RFID to track beds and valuable equipment, effectively we want to make the hospital ‘self aware’. In the future we would expect to be able to track where every bed and every mattress has been at any given time. The faster we can provide this information to the Infection Control Teams, the quicker they are able to combat sources of infection and contain them.”

“In addition, we will be investing in mobile devices that allow us to utilize the 3G and wireless network, helping to reduce call costs; and, in the future, hope to provide a modern platform for new Wi-Fi enabled devices, like the Apple iPad, to healthcare consultants. To achieve this, it’s important that the wireless architecture is future-proof and robust.”

Implemented and supported by Swiftpath Business Solutions and Networks First, the existing wireless network, consisting of 75 access points (HiveAPs) will be scaled by a further 300, and be fully operational when the new wing opens in October 2010; a single HiveManager platform will enable Broomfield Hospital to manage the network from a central location, and support up to 5000 HiveAPs.

Mike Casey adds, “We expect to realize a return-on-investment, from the extended WLAN, within 12 months. The intuitive nature of the HiveAPs and central management platform combined will also help to reduce ongoing maintenance costs. Aerohive’s architecture is designed to overcome the key challenges that we face both now and for the future; it has certainly raised the industry benchmark for wireless networks.”

Avoiding the Scams: Getting Supplements that Work

Avoiding the Scams: Getting Supplements that Work

The difference in price between one supplement and another is often about much more than name brands. Absorption rates and quality of ingredients are two major components in price.

Houston, TX (PRWEB) May 5, 2004

If youÂ’ve ever wondered why some supplements sell for so little and why others -- that appear to have similar vitamin and mineral content -- sell for more, it may be about more than just brand names. Not all ingredients are created equal, and if youÂ’re buying your supplements on price alone, you may find that your purchase is a literal flush down the toilet.

Among the key factors to the value of a supplement is how much of the ingredients are actually absorbed into the body. For instance, if two tablets both contain 1000 mg of vitamin C but your body actually uses five times more vitamin C with one tablet than with the other, there is a huge discrepancy in the value of these vitamins. One is worth five times more, but may only cost twice as much.

“Many companies use heat when developing their supplements,” explains Ramzey Khoury, a supplement distributor. “That destroys any enzymes that are present, which keeps the body from absorbing much of the value in a supplement. That means you’re passing all the ingredients, right into the toilet.”

Another issue with absorption comes with chelated minerals versus other types. Chelated minerals are bonded to amino acids, 95% of which are absorbed by the body. Minerals lacking this bond to amino acids end up with a much lower absorption rate, so that once again, much of the value of the mineral is lost as it passes through the body.

Like many experts, though, Khoury believes that the absorption rate of a supplement isn’t the only major concern for consumers. “Another failure in the industry is when companies use synthetic vitamins in place of natural ones,” he says. “Sure, they save their own dimes, but studies have shown that synthetic ingredients do not supply the body with the same biological value and in fact can be dangerous!”

Khoury specifically cites studies suggesting that synthetic vitamin C can lead to thicker arterial walls of the heart; that synthetic vitamin A has been shown to increase the risk for developing certain cancers; and that synthetic vitamin E has been shown to actually remove vitamins and minerals from bones.

“Considering how critical vitamins, minerals, and enzymes are to our health, and the fact that most Americans are deficient in these, it’s critical that more people become educated on how supplements are manufactured,” says Khoury. “This is why I supply a great deal of information on my web site about the only supplement I sell.” The supplement, he explains, uses only whole food vitamins and chelated minerals, and uses no heat in the production process. This way, the enzymes are left intact for helping the body’s immune and digestive processes.

“So many people in our country are suffering from cancer, blood sugar diabetes, and dozens of other disease,” explains Khoury. “This is at least in part because our food and supplements don’t give us all the vitamins, minerals, and enzymes we need. I only sell one supplement because it’s the only one I’ve found that brings together all the right ingredients in the way that’s necessary for the body.”

Khoury provides links to this and much more information about ingredients needed in the body and how they should be manufactured for optimal value to the body on his web site, VHealthSource (www. vhealthsource. com). “You’d be surprised at the number of health problems you can face because of poor food and supplements,” he says. “It’s time we do something about this as a nation.”

Why: As of January 30, 2006, an injunction preventing developer Ralph Horowitz from evicting the farmers has been lifted. At any moment the South Central Farmers may be served with an eviction notice from the L. A. County Sheriff’s Department. Hundreds of community supporters of the South Central Farmers will gather at Los Angeles City Hall, to demand the preservation of this 13 year old community project.

-For 13 years, 350 families have tended a 14-acre urban farm in the middle of South L. A.’s gritty industrial belt. Growing their own food staples has helped make healthy nutrition affordable. This urban farm, the largest in the U. S., provides a safe, children-friendly environment for over 360 families and thousands of visitors who come to the lively farmers market on Sundays. The farm is also an oasis of green-space that helps to lessen air and water pollution in the surrounding community. Farmer Alberto Tlatoa said, “Bulldozing the farm will take food out off our children’s mouths. What will it do to Horowitz if we stay? Nothing! The city paid him $4.7 million dollars for this land in 1986, and when he bought in back 11 years later, he paid the city $5.1 million; far below the fair market price. Now he's asking $16 million for it. Every taxpayer in L. A. and any person who cares about environmental justice should be outraged."

-The City of L. A. acquired the land in the late 1980s, but abandoned plans to build a trash incinerator after community protests. After the civil unrest of 1992, officials transferred title to the Harbor Department, which contracted with the L. A. Regional Food Bank to operate a community farm on the property. In 2003, the City Council agreed to sell the 14 acres back to the original owner, private developer Ralph Horowitz, who wants to demolish the urban farm and build a warehouse. The South Central Farmers are self-sufficient and are working, they are not asking for a hand-out from taxpayers. Sponsored by South Central Farmers Support committee
