Disney XD Star Joins Campaign for L. A.’s Feral Cats

Disney XD Star Joins Campaign for L. A.’s Feral Cats

Aaron Stone star Tania Gunadi to support efforts to restore lifesaving spay/neuter funding

Bethesda, MD (Vocus) February 9, 2010

Tania Gunadi, star of Disney XD’s Aaron Stone, announced her support for a campaign by Alley Cat Allies (http://www. alleycat. org/NetCommunity/Page. aspx? pid=191) to press the city of Los Angeles to restore spay/neuter funding (http://www. alleycat. org/NetCommunity/Page. aspx? pid=722) for the city’s feral cats and resume promotion of existing programs.

“I’ve spent my life caring for cats and advocating for their humane treatment. I am proud to join Alley Cat Allies in this important cause,” said Gunadi, who plays girl-next-door Emma Lau, a. k.a. weapons specialist Dark Tamara, in the hit action-adventure series.

“This is a dangerous time for feral cats in Los Angeles, and we are grateful that Tania is lending her support to raise awareness about the terrible threat they are under,” said Becky Robinson, president of Alley Cat Allies. “If Los Angeles does not restore the funding soon, thousands of feral cats will face certain death in animal shelters.”

Trap-Neuter-Return is a lifesaving program and the only humane and effective course of action for the city’s feral cats, Robinson said, adding that Trap-Neuter-Return benefits the entire community by ending the breeding cycle, stabilizing the population and improving the cats’ health. Decades of scientific study and observational evidence show it is an effective program, where as “catch and kill” continues to fail.

Los Angeles, like many progressive communities across the U. S., had embraced Trap-Neuter-Return, and for the last 15 years had provided low-cost spay/neuter vouchers that helped to support and sustain many community volunteer programs. But late last year, a Los Angeles county judge ordered the city to suspend spay/neuter funding for feral cats and to stop community education about Trap-Neuter-Return.

Robinson said Alley Cat Allies has been working closely with local feral cat groups and individual caregivers in urging the city to reinstate support for this lifesaving program. More information can be found at www. alleycat. org/LosAngeles (http://www. alleycat. org/LosAngeles).

New Online Journal Explores Medicinal Plants and Traditional Medicine

New Online Journal Explores Medicinal Plants and Traditional Medicine

Free forum will expand global knowledge about beneficial plants and trees.

Wichita, KS (PRWEB) February 8, 2006

A new online scientific journal (http://www. tfljournal. org) focused on traditional knowledge and scientific studies of beneficial plants launched this month, announced Balbir Mathur, president of the non-profit Trees for Life. Trees for Life Journal: A forum on beneficial trees and plants will be a free, open access electronic forum, to bring together international articles about traditional medicine, small-scale field studies and scientific evidence regarding natural remedies and medicinal plants that could benefit humanity (http://www. tfljournal. org/staticpages/index. php? page=CurrentArticles). The journal is available online at www. tfljournal. org.

“Our journal aims to bridge the gap between grassroots knowledge and scientific research,” Mathur said. “By publishing formal and informal studies on medicinal plants and trees and the resulting herbal remedies, we hope to advance the use of these vital resources worldwide.”

Trees for Life is a non-profit organization that helps plant fruit trees in developing countries as a low-cost, self-renewing food source. The movement’s philosophy of “education, health and environment” will be evident in Trees for Life Journal, which aims to expand global knowledge about the medical and nutritional value of plants in order to educate citizens of third world countries.

The idea for the journal was born from traditional claims about the nutritional, medicinal and other beneficial properties of the tree Moringa oleifera. Every part of the tree is edible or used as traditional medicine, from the leaves to the bark to the seeds. It grows wild in poor soil and provides vitamins desperately lacking in diets of impoverished people. Trees for Life recognized the need for a forum to publish and discuss scientific studies and communal knowledge of this tree, in order to promote its cultivation in the developing world. The inaugural issue of the journal includes a review of the medical evidence for Moringa’s potential (http://www. tfljournal. org/article. php/20051201124931586).

“People whose lives could be improved by research findings are not even aware such a wealth of information exists in their midst,” said Mathur. “Almost anyone with experience would agree that many more channels of communication are needed to increase the exchange between academics and lay people.”

Trees for Life Journal will be free to users and features an easy-to-use format. Anyone may publish an article—from peer-reviewed field and clinical studies to informal essays or ideas for possible new uses of medicinal plants and trees. The content is also freely available for reproduction and distribution, with credit given to the original authors. The Web site also features a mentor program that matches experienced scientists with those who are new to the research process. Publishing electronically means the journal can be updated as often as necessary.

“The ease and speed of this technology transcends the barriers of cost, space and time,” Mathur said. “Thanks to the Web, it is now possible to scale the walls that have long divided those who know and those who need the knowledge.”

Dr. Doren Fredrickson of the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita will be the journal's Chairman. Dr. Jed Fahey of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine will be Editor-in-Chief and Jeffrey Faus of Trees for Life will be Managing Editor.

About Trees for Life: Founded in 1984 by Wichita businessman Balbir Mathur, Trees for Life is an international nonprofit movement that demonstrates that by helping each other, people can unleash extraordinary power that enriches every life. Their mission is to create hope through a movement in which people join hands to break the cycle of poverty and hunger and care for our earth. OTC Availability of Plan B in Canada Reduces Healthcare Costs, While FDA Remains Stubbornly Opposed to Approving Switch

OTC Availability of Plan B in Canada Reduces Healthcare Costs, While FDA Remains Stubbornly Opposed to Approving Switch

Despite cries for the emergency contraception to be available over the counter in the U. S., many American women still need permission from their doctor to get it.

Vancouver, B. C. (PRWEB) June 20, 2006

In April 28, 2005, the morning-after pill known as Plan B became available to Canadian women without a prescription. Since then, sales have doubled. Duramed Pharmaceuticals, Canadian manufacturer of Plan B, supplied 23,000 morning-after pills to retail pharmacies in January, 2005. Now they average 41,000 a month.

Plan B is an oral drug containing high doses of the same hormones found in regular oral contraceptive pills, which, when taken within 72 hours after unprotected sex, may prevent pregnancy from occurring.

Evidence shows that easier availability of the pill is leading to significant savings for Canada's healthcare system. Dr. Judith Soon, a scientist at the University of British Columbia who is conducting a study of the pill's use, says that costs for abortions and physician visits may well be dramatically reduced. Official numbers on the full effect of Plan B on abortion rates and healthcare costs will not be available for a year or more, but early indications are very positive.

“Emergency contraception is available without a prescription in 44 countries around the world,” says Dr. Paul Zickler, of DoctorSolve Healthcare Solutions (www. doctorsolve. com), an online pharmacy service. “Yet, despite recommendations from the American Medical Association and the advisory committee of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the FDA still prohibits sales of Plan B over the counter.”

The FDA claims that there is insufficient proof that young teenage girls can take the drug safely without their doctor's guidance, but critics say that the FDA refusal to switch is based on political pressure. The denial was a major goal of social conservatives, including members of Congress who lobbied President Bush on the issue.

More than 300,000 women are sexually assaulted each year in the U. S. Of these, an estimated 25,000 will become pregnant as a result. About 22,000 of these pregnancies could be prevented if all women who were raped had easy access to emergency contraception.

“Plan B is FDA-approved, and it has been proven safe and effective,” says Zickler. “ It should be readily available to women who most likely require it during a time of crisis. It is a way to prevent unwanted pregnancy and therefore prevent abortion. For a country where nearly one half of its annual pregnancies are accidental, this should be an easy decision to make.”

DoctorSolve, a Canadian Internet-based pharmacy intermediary (license #BC Q37), offers lower cost, long-term prescriptions. A professionally registered pharmacist fills all prescriptions. A certified member of the Canadian International Pharmacy Association, DoctorSolve is ranked as one of the best online pharmacies by PharmacyChecker. com. DoctorSolve has filled more than 200,000 U. S. prescriptions.

Knowledge of the addictive chemicals added to cigarettes, understanding the marketing philosophy of tobacco companies and recognizing the message given by society about smoking will empower you to quit forever. Armed with the right knowledge you will have the power and ability to quit.

Others are finding The Quit Smoking Right Now Program gives them the power and knowledge to quit. Rick’s program has helped smokers kick the habit, with an incredible 90% success rate. Carla B. a smoker for 25 years said, “A BIG thank you! After 25 years of smoking I am now free of this bad habit and have no cravings. The Quit Smoking Right Now Program was fun, easy and I feel more relaxed and energetic. I am able to do what I want to do now!" Jim Q. a smoker for 35 years said, “I needed something to convince myself that after 35 years I could finally quit my 4-to-5-pack-a-day smoking habit. Yes, I chain smoked from morning until night and even woke up in the middle of each night to light up. I tried Zyban and the patch. What a joke! Ten minutes into The Quit Smoking Right Now Program I knew I was going to be able to quit. I remain tobacco-free over a year later. This program was a miracle in my life and my wife considers it even more than that!” Linda R. a smoker for 40 years said, “The Quit Smoking Right Now Program works from DAY ONE! It was quick and easy. I tried everything else. Nothing worked. I have NO urges or desires for a cigarette after 40 years of smoking! You have to try it to believe it. I'm so glad I did." (More testimonials at www. quitsmoking4u. info)

Whatever your motivations to quit smoking; health benefits, increasing your life span, or saving money every year; there is no doubt that quitting smoking is one of the best and most important decisions you can make. Not only for yourself, but for your family and friends. Consider the monetary benefits for a moment: smoking one pack a day (at $3.55) costs $99.40 each month, and $1192.80 each year. DonÂ’t become a tobacco industry statistic. Right Now is the time to Quit Smoking forever.

Financial Planners, Advisors to Meet in Washington, D. C. for Training, Certification

Financial Planners, Advisors to Meet in Washington, D. C. for Training, Certification

Financial professonals will meet in Washington, D. C., October 5-6, for an intensive two-day training course to gain the designation as a Certified Federal Employee Benefits Specialist (CFEBS) (http://www. FEBSI. com).

Castle Rock, CO (PRWEB) August 29, 2005

Financial planners will meet in Washington, D. C., Oct. 5-6, for an intensive two-day training course to gain the designation as a Certified Federal Employee Benefits Specialist (CFEBS) (http://www. FEBSI. com (http://www. FEBSI. com)).

The CFEBS course and designation equips financial and estate planners, investment advisors, insurance agents, tax preparers and other professionals with a thorough understanding of federal benefits and associated retirement planning.

“Federal benefit programs are very complicated. Only the best-trained professionals are able to service this market,” says Judy Snow, the founder of Federal Employee Benefits Specialist, Inc. (FEBSI) and developer of the CFEBS training program.

“Having the CFEBS designation helps financial professionals to learn the ins and outs of these benefits programs, and how to reach federal employees who are in need of quality financial planning services,” Snow explained. Snow is a 20-year veteran financial and estate planner with more than 10 years experience helping federal employees.

Often overlooked by financial professionals, the federal and postal employee market consists of more than 2.5 million people. U. S. federal government employment statistics indicate that approximately 50 percent of federal employees will be eligible to retire in five years.

“The opportunity for financial professionals is a goldmine. Thousands of federal employees will have $500,000 or more in a 401-k-like savings plan. These are funds that can be rolled over into other investment options at retirement,” Snow states. Snow also points out that outside of investment options, federal employees face many important decisions to make regarding health, life and long-term care insurance options – as well as special tax concerns.

In addition to the open enrollment course in Washington, D. C. in October (http://www. febsi. com/Washington-DC-CFEBS-Course-2005.html (http://www. febsi. com/Washington-DC-CFEBS-Course-2005.html)), the CFEBS course is also offered via independent study. The course is also available on-site at financial firms (a FEBSI instructor will travel to the financial firm and teach the two-day course).

The course provides professionals with numerous training materials including sales and marketing resources to help the professional identify the retirement needs of federal employees and the best ways to reach these potential clients.

Snow also stated that hundreds of financial professionals now hold the CFEBS designation, which was first offered in 2003.

Information on the CFEBS course and designation can be found at http://www. FEBSI. com (http://www. FEBSI. com) or by calling FEBSI at 1-800-696-3505.

Federal Employee Benefits Specialist, Inc. is a private, woman-owned small business in Castle Rock, Colo.

“Pulse On America” to Feature Clover-Stornetta Farms on Sustainable Agriculture

“Pulse On America” to Feature Clover-Stornetta Farms on Sustainable Agriculture

One of the few family-owned and operated dairy plants in California, Clover-Stornetta has eight family farms from Marin County to the Oregon border that produce its organic milk

Deerfield Beach, FL (PRWEB) April 14, 2005

New Line Media Solutions is pleased to announce the selection of Clover-Stornetta Farms, Inc. for its innovative, educational television series, Pulse on America. The company will be featured as part of our Models of Excellence series for its organic production.

Clover-Stornetta has eight family farms on CaliforniaÂ’s North Coast, from Marin County to the Oregon border, that produce its organic milk. One of the few family-owned and operated dairy plants in California, it is based in Petaluma. The rich soil, green rolling hills, and climate of the North Coast make the area ideal for dairy farming. Since Clover Stornetta Farms inception in 1977, it has opposed the concept of mega dairies and fought to keep family farming viable; brought food consumption back to the hands of the consumers through awareness; and aided in the conservation of the land.

What they do is called sustainable agriculture: economically viable, environmentally sound and socially responsible. Clover listens to consumers and has made every effort to be the cleanest available milk by managing a healthy environment for people as well as animals.

In September 2000, Clover-Stornetta Farms was the first dairy farm in the United States and the only company in California awarded the American Humane AssociationÂ’s Free Farmed label for humanely produced dairy products. Free Farmed assures that their cows are FREE from unnecessary fear and distress; from unnecessary pain, injury and disease; from hunger and thirst; from unnecessary discomfort and free to enjoy the company of their own kind.

Clover-Stornetta also carries the HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) certification. HACCP is a specialized scientific approach to product safety. Clover is one of only 14 dairy plants in the United States listed in the Interstate Milk Shipment program that has been HACCP certified. Once a dairy plant is listed as having HACCP certification, the plant is routinely audited to ensure it continues to meet all regulations. The company strives to surpass the standard it has met, making Clover-Stornetta the safest best quality milk for the northern California area.

Clover-Stornetta has addressed customersÂ’ concerns by making sure they meet all standards. The ranchers are required to sign an affidavit stating they donÂ’t use the growth hormone rBST on their cows.

Pete Hardin of “the Milkweed” in Brooklyn, WI, had this to say about Clover-Stornetta farms: “Top quality milk on the supermarket shelf starts with excellent milk from the dairy farm. And no milk processor in the United States starts with a better quality milk than Clover Stornetta Farms of Petaluma, CA. Clover milk is quite possibly the cleanest milk in the United States.”

Clover is about preserving the family farm. For more information, see www. cloverstornetta. com

S-Net (The Impact of Social Media) Study: Automotive, Travel, Entertainment Top List of Most Discussed Categories on Social Networking Sites

S-Net (The Impact of Social Media) Study: Automotive, Travel, Entertainment Top List of Most Discussed Categories on Social Networking Sites

Reports highlight behaviors of 3,000 social networkers across 11 critical consumer categories

Chicago, IL (Vocus) September 9, 2010

Performics (http://www. performics. com), the performance marketing expert inside Publicis Groupe, today released vertical reports which detail findings from “S-Net (The Impact of Social Media),” a report from ROI Research Inc. (http://www. roiresearch. com) sponsored by Performics. The S-Net vertical reports complement the full study released in June and highlight findings specific to eleven different industries: apparel, appliances, automotive, CPG, electronics, entertainment, financial services, healthcare/pharma, home furnishings, telecommunications and travel.

The S-Net vertical reports benchmark how buyers use social networking sites to get advice on what to purchase, give advice on companies/products and post content specific to various industries. In addition to analyzing each category, Performics and ROI Research also compared variables across industries. According to those surveyed, the most highly discussed verticals on social networks include automotive (61 percent), travel (60 percent) and entertainment (57 percent). When it comes to social networkers seeking or sharing recommendations on local retailers, home furnishing led all verticals, including automotive.

Each report contains a wide array of industry-specific findings, but some of the highlights include:
Fifty-six percent of respondents are fans of appliance brands/retailers on Facebook Forty-nine percent of respondents discuss apparel on social networking sites to compare prices Forty-nine percent of respondents follow automotive brands/retailers on Twitter Twenty-three percent of respondents follow at least one travel company on either Facebook or Twitter Fifty-nine percent of respondents are at least somewhat interested in receiving new product announcements from financial services companies/brands on social networking sites

“Social networkers behave differently when interacting with their favorite jeans brand versus the manufacturer of that new hybrid car they’ve got their eye on,” said Daina Middleton, CEO of Performics. “Marketers can benefit by recognizing social networkers’ desire to participate with brands and keeping these behaviors in mind when setting strategies. Vertical-specific insights can help advertisers understand how their category fares in this new channel and the best ways to connect with their niche.”

Across verticals, respondents indicated that active participation with brands and other social networkers is more likely in some verticals than others. Highlights of the best-performing verticals for advice and feedback include:
Forty-nine percent of respondents most often use social networking sites to seek advice on electronics purchases Thirty-eight percent of respondents most often use social networking sites to give advice about financial services and home furnishings companies/products Respondents use social networking sites to provide feedback to appliance brands/retailers (33 percent) more than any other vertical Users are most likely to make an automotive purchase (26 percent) as a result of a recommendation someone posted on a social networking site than any other vertical

S-Net (The Impact of Social Media), a report from ROI Research Inc., sponsored by Performics, used a 30-minute online survey to collect information from 3,000 U. S. respondents who access at least one social network regularly. Responses were compiled, analyzed and, trended against data in two waves in 2009 and 2010. The objective of this study was to determine how various segments of users participate with social networks in their daily lives, specifically with regard to the purchase process for different types of products and in relation to other media channels.

ViSalus to Celebrate 100,000 Meals Donated Milestone with 'Feed the Kids!' Benefit Concert

ViSalus to Celebrate 100,000 Meals Donated Milestone with 'Feed the Kids!' Benefit Concert

St. Patrick’s Day Party will benefit Colorado’s Food Bank of the Rockies and feature a performance by U2 tribute band “Under a Blood Red Sky”

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) March 10, 2010

March is already shaping up to be a month that will go down in history for health transformation company ViSalus Sciences, which took time on its 5th birthday to celebrate the spirit of giving in grand fashion.

The company’s Body by Vi Community Challenge launched in November of 2009 with a goal of providing 100,000 shake meals to children within a year. ViSalus achieved the milestone in just under 4 months on March 3rd, five years to the day since the company was founded.

The Body by Vi™ Community Challenge continues to donate a nutritious shake meal through a network of local Distributors working with charitable organizations in their communities. For as little as 50 cents per meal, ViSalus Distributors and Customers can make a donation to be matched meal for meal by ViSalus. The recipients of the first 100,000 meals were organizations from all over the United States and Jamaica, as well as those suffering from the recent earthquake in Haiti who received 10,000 meals from the Body by Vi Community Challenge thanks to a partnership with World Emergency Relief.

ViSalus crossed the 100,000 mark at an event in Columbus, Ohio, where one of the company’s fastest-growing local communities rallied together in raising 14,880 meals in one night, with the largest donation coming from Dr. Paul Wehrum, a physician serving the Ohio area.

ViSalus CEO Ryan Blair was there for the event and expressed his gratitude for the efforts of the community in Ohio and around the country that made this moment possible. “We are just getting started,” said Blair. “We’ve developed a solution to children’s hunger in our local communities. One day in the near future we will solve the problem of children’s hunger in all of our ViSalus communities.”

Clearly not one to stop after achieving a first goal, Blair and ViSalus are throwing a party Friday March 12th to celebrate the first 100,000 meals and set a new goal at the company’s ViSalus Academy event in Denver, Colorado.

“Feed the Kids!”, a St. Patrick’s Day Party and Benefit Concert that will help raise shake meal donations for Food Bank of the Rockies, a local organization that helps children and families who are facing the reality of food insecurity. With over 192,000 children in the Denver area living in poverty and at the risk of hunger, the event hopes to further the state of Colorado’s campaign to end childhood hunger.

“We are grateful for ViSalus’s donation to our children’s programs and the kids love the shakes,” said Jeanne Downes, Nutrition Network Director for Food Bank of the Rockies. “Protein is so important for children to grow and it’s one of the most difficult nutrients to get donated.”

The evening will begin with an overview of the Body by Vi Challenge, the centerpiece of the ViSalus product line and opportunity, followed by a cocktail reception and performance by “Under a Blood Red Sky,” a renowned U2 tribute band that passionately recreates the bands most legendary songs.

The event is free to attend, with a $24 suggested donation for those wishing to support Food Bank of the Rockies and have a chance to win thousands of dollars worth of raffle prizes.

Event Details:
Friday, March 12th
Crowne Plaza Denver Int’l Airport
15500 East 40th Ave.

7:00pm – 11:00pm

HARLEY PASTERNAK NAMED "HOLLYWOOD NORTH'S PERSONAL FITNESS GURU" BY THE NATIONAL POST

HARLEY PASTERNAK NAMED "HOLLYWOOD NORTH'S PERSONAL FITNESS GURU" BY THE NATIONAL POST

Harley Pasternak, Director of Bodiworx Health & Fitness Inc. and founder of Multi-Variable Training(tm), was recently named "Hollywood North's Personal Fitness Guru" by The National Post, one of Canada's national newspapers.

(PRWEB) January 10, 2003

TORONTO, ON - Harley Pasternak, Director of Bodiworx Health & Fitness Inc. and founder of Multi-Variable Training, was recently named "Hollywood North's Personal Fitness Guru" by The National Post, one of Canada's national

Newspapers.

"In Hollywood North, the fitness secret of the stars can be summed up in two words: Harley Pasternak," wrote Nathalie Atkinson. The article, which appeared in the newspaper's Saturday Edition (Dec. 07, 2002) described Harley as "an Anthony Robbins for the body. Part Baywatch hottie, part motivation-king Richard Simmons."

As one of the world's top nutrition and fitness advisors, Harley works with numerous high profile actors, actresses, producers and business executives helping them affect dramatic physical transformation for specific film and television projects.

He has shaped the physiques of such Hollywood stars as Stephen Dorff, Angela Bassett, Dennis Quaid, Juliette Lewis, Eliza

Dushku, Bai Ling; director Peter Werner and producer Don Carmody; entertainment icons Limp Bizkit and Swollen Members, and supermodel Juli Ordon.

So what does Harley have to say about fitness? "I am often asked, 'Just what is your secret?' Well, the first thing you

Need to know before beginning an exercise program is that there is no secret," explains Harley. "Fitness cannot be pursued, it must ensue. In other words, the results you seek should be the by-product of a healthy lifestyle, proper nutrition and regular

Exercise."

To induce optimum results in minimal amounts of time, Harley pioneered the Multi-Variable Training(tm) (MVT) System. MVT bridges together the fields of science and math with exercise physiology and functional fitness. It is based upon short, intense exercise sessions in which the training variables - such as reps, sets and rest times - are constantly changing, thereby

Stimulating muscle growth, promoting fat loss, and keeping motivational levels high. It also helps determined dieters avoid those

Unwanted plateaus.

The MVT programs - which will also be offered online at www. harleypastnerak. com Jan 30th, 2003 - is based on various

Studies addressing the body's ability to adapt to different training stimuli and the effects of altering those factors to induce peak performance levels. But as the article says, "whether you firm up with a virtual Harley or the real thing, he will likely fulfill the promise of his corporate T-shirt: Look Better Naked."

Auto Parts Retailers Experience Healthy Sales Growth from a Year Ago As Consumers Make Repairs to Keep Aging Vehicles on Road Longer, Reports NPD

Auto parts retailers are benefiting from consumers now making good on their intentions to keep their aging vehicles on the road longer, after deferring repairs for the last two years. According to The NPD Group, a leading market research company, auto parts retailers experienced a seven percent growth in dollar sales for year-to-date April 2010 versus a year ago.

Houston, Texas (Vocus) August 8, 2010

Auto parts retailers are benefiting from consumers now making good on their intentions to keep their aging vehicles on the road longer, after deferring repairs for the last two years. According to automotive aftermarket research by The NPD Group, a leading market research company, auto parts retailers experienced a seven percent growth in dollar sales for year-to-date April 2010 versus a year ago.

NPD’s Aftermarket Industry Monitor, which tracks item-level sales at more than 18,000 U. S. auto parts store, finds that the sales growth is driven by applications parts, which increased 10 percent in dollar volume for the January through April 2010 time period versus a year-ago. The dollar gains, according to the Aftermarket Industry Monitor, came from real unit volume growth reflecting an actual increase in consumer transactions for replacement parts. Much of the volume growth came through the commercial channel, as repair shop bays filled up with aging vehicles.

“I believe what we’re seeing is that consumers have begun to recognize that repair costs are more economical than replacement costs,” says David Portalatin, industry analyst for NPD’s automotive aftermarket business. “Consumers have been telling us for two years they were aware their autos needed service but they were putting it off. They are now realizing they can no longer put off the services and are making the needed repairs.”

The top five hard parts categories, based on unit volume percent change for year ending April 2010, are suspension, application electrical, climate control, brakes, and driveline.

“The increase in application parts sales is a case where consumers’ intentions, what they say, did portend exactly to what they would do in the future,” says Portalatin. “By paying attention to what consumers said in 2009, marketers could anticipate what consumers would do in 2010.”

D. A. STUART CHOOSES THE WERCS® FOR GLOBAL MSDS SOLUTION

Albany, NY, (PRWEB) September 17, 2003

Stuart, a leader in the production of superbly engineered lubricants, additives, in-process and production cleaners, has chosen to implement The WERCS® as their global solution for authoring, managing and distributing MSDSs.

D. A. Stuart operates manufacturing facilities in the United Kingdom, Germany, Canada and the United States. With sales in these and many other countries, D. A. Stuart generates nearly 4,000 MSDSs, all of which are currently authored, managed and distributed by each facility’s unique solution. To streamline and standardize this process, D. A. “Compared to its peers, The WERCS® is very technologically advanced and user friendly,” said Dennis Mahoney, Global Systems Manager for D. A. By implementing The WERCS®, D. A. Stuart will consolidate all health and safety functions at a North American and a European location. This will lead to advanced data integrity as well as increased efficiency in authoring, managing and distributing MSDSs. Furthermore, centralizing all data will help D. A. Stuart to more effectively meet global regulatory requirements. Additionally, The WERCS®’ WebViewer Module will allow for global access to all of D. A. Also at the meeting, Maurice Buchbinder, MD (San Diego, Calif.), and Patrick Serruys, MD, PhD (Rotterdam, The Netherlands) presented clinical data from the ongoing post-CE Mark expanded clinical evaluation registry at the EuroPCR 2008 cardiovascular intervention meeting taking place in Barcelona, Spain. One-month post-procedure, 92 percent of the high-risk and often inoperable octogenarian patients were alive and well and only nine percent needed subsequent pacemaker implantation. Quality-of-life improvements endured in patients followed up to six months.

"We are highly encouraged by the robust and durable clinical trial and registry data presented at this medical meeting," added Daniel T. Lemaitre, President and CEO of CoreValve. "Additionally, the 1000-patient milestone, confirms the presence of a significant patient population who can benefit from this groundbreaking technology."

While OTC Cough Remedies are Ineffective for Children, University Study Says Honey is “Significantly Better”

While OTC Cough Remedies are Ineffective for Children, University Study Says Honey is “Significantly Better”

With new warnings that children under six years of age should not be given cough syrups, what is a parent to do when their child needs something that’s safe and that really works? In a study at Pennsylvania State University’s College of Medicine, researchers found that honey may hold the answer.

Philadelphia, PA (Vocus) November 26, 2010

An FDA panel came to the conclusion that there is no benefit in more than 800 over the counter medicines to help young children. In fact, it was disclosed that many of the medicines for children, including cough syrups, could have serious side effects. In a study at Penn State University, doctors learned that honey was significantly superior to dextromethorphan (cough syrup) or no treatment at all on nighttime coughs and sleeping for children ages 2 and up.

With so many new warnings about most over-the-counter cough medicines for children, what’s a parent to do when his or her child needs something that’s safe and that really works? Getting back to the basics with Olbas Cough Syrup, made with pure wildflower honey, is a good place to start. This natural syrup, made with five herbal extracts and six essential oils, would appeal to most grandmothers, too, and has been time-tested around the world for decades.

The following study will shed some light on this perfect solution. In a study of 105 children age 2 to 18 – all who suffered with upper respiratory tract infections, researchers at Pennsylvania State University’s College of Medicine came up with a sweet, natural idea: Honey. They discovered that honey was significantly better than no treatment at all. Parents reported that their children slept much better after they took 1-2 teaspoons of honey. They added that this old folk remedy used throughout the centuries also appeared to reduce cough severity and frequency, though it is not considered safe for children under the age of one year.

Even the World Health Organization (WHO) has recommended honey as an effective cough remedy in their study featured in the December issue of Archives of Pediatric Adolescent Medicine, lead by author Ian M. Paul. Here’s what Paul says about the honey remedy. “It’s easily available, and pretty cheap. And it’s appealing for most people because it’s a natural remedy.”

While plain honey is effective by itself in soothing children’s coughs and assisting with sleep, there’s another natural remedy available that combines wildflower honey with natural herbal extracts that provide the added benefit of helping to strengthen healthy lung function. Olbas® Cough Syrup has proven to be effective for children and adults alike by offering soothing bronchial support.

According to Dr. Susan Smith Jones, “Olbas Cough Syrup is the only cough syrup I recommend in my private practice for children in need of a natural remedy for coughs, bronchial support, and immune enhancement that truly works. All of the children like the pleasant honey taste and their parents are pleased because of its efficacy. Through my decades of using this superb remedy, I have seen the effectiveness of this cough syrup from Switzerland. Besides quelling a cough, it also helps strengthen healthy lung function and supports the mucous membranes in the respiratory tract, promoting clean and healthy bronchial passages. Additionally, it provides natural antioxidants that support the immune system. In my book The Joy Factor: 10 Sacred Practices for Radiant Health, I have highly recommended Olbas Cough Syrup for both children and adults. It’s front and center in my natural remedy pantry and I would not be without it. In fact, one of my clients said the following about this easy-to-take remedy: ‘I am completely amazed at the effectiveness of Olbas cough syrup. I bought Olbas just to give it a try and have had 3 consecutive nights of uninterrupted sleep.’ I also use and recommend the Olbas Pastilles and sugar-free Lozenges to remedy throat tickles and coughing.”

A carefully selected blend of five herbal extracts, six essential oils and wildflower honey, Olbas Cough Syrup is great for the entire family – anyone over 12 months old. It contains the following natural herbal extracts:
Thyme has a variety of natural flavonoids that increase its antioxidant capacity, helping to support immune system function. Licorice contains glycyrrhizin, a glycoside that balances the normal production of mucus in the respiratory tract, maintaining healthy lung function. Plantain contains natural flavonoids that soothe and cleanse the bronchial area, supporting healthy breathing. Pine is recognized to be one of the most potent antioxidants, supporting immune system health. Horse Chestnut contains a saponin known as aescin, which promotes normal circulation and healthy bronchial activity.

Olbas Cough Syrup does not contain any artificial sweeteners, colors, preservatives, or animal ingredients. It is also gluten-free, cruelty-free and has a delicious flavor.

The line of Olbas remedies from Switzerland also includes the oil, inhaler, pastilles, sugar-free lozenges, herbal bath, instant herbal tea and analgesic salve. All are imported and distributed by Penn Herb Company, Ltd. Located in Philadelphia, PA.

Injury-Free Tennis No Longer a Dream: "Tennis Fitness for the Love of it" Book Offers Solutions to Prevention of Overuse Injuries

Injury-Free Tennis No Longer a Dream: "Tennis Fitness for the Love of it" Book Offers Solutions to Prevention of Overuse Injuries

Playing tennis daily without overuse injuries has long been the dream of all tennis players. "Tennis Fitness for the Love of it: A Mindful Approach to Fitness for Injury-Free Tennis" is a new book incorporating mindful fitness methods to make this dream come true.

Venice, CA (PRWEB) October 28, 2010

Playing tennis daily without overuse injuries has long been the dream of all tennis players.

Tennis Fitness for the Love of it: A Mindful Approach to Fitness for Injury-Free Tennis is a new book incorporating mindful fitness methods to make this dream come true.

The mission of the United States Professional Tennis Association’s advisory council slogan “Tennis – for the health of it!” is to make sure that playing tennis is health enhancing, safe and fun. The reality for tennis players, young or old, is that the one-sided nature of the sport creates imbalances in the body that over time cause overuse injuries.

“The overuse injuries can be easily prevented,” says Suzanna McGee, author of the book Tennis Fitness for the Love of it: A Mindful Approach to Fitness for Injury-free Tennis. Asserts McGee, “The players need to learn how to listen to their bodies and understand what the body is telling them. Then it is easy to correct the imbalances before the injuries happen.”

Venice, California-based Suzanna McGee is a former Ms. Natural Olympia (drug-free bodybuilding champion), holder of numerous European skiing titles and she is currently a competitive tennis player and fitness coach. In addition to possessing two master degrees in computer science, she has been studying performance of the human body and mind for more than twenty years. Suzanna’s training style has helped hundreds of athletes with no age limitations to perform at high levels without chronic pains and injuries. A Czech native, McGee moved to the United States in 1996, from her former home in Sweden, fluent in five languages not including English. As her athletic mastery evolved, so did her command of her new country’s primary language.

“You need to develop an awareness of your body,” says McGee, who further explains: “This awareness will enable you to improve. However, as with any form of mastery, mind and body awareness requires regular practice.”

At the age of 38, McGee picked up the tennis racket and her remarkable fitness allowed her to reach high levels quickly, and today, this 45-year-old true athlete plays tennis daily without aches and pains. She says, “Everybody can do this. It’s simple. You need to listen to your body, and then strengthen your weaknesses and balance your strengths. Consciously search for the imbalances and correct them before they cause you serious problems. Practice mindful fitness and you will play injury-free tennis for the rest of your life.”

In the book Tennis Fitness for the Love of it: A Mindful Approach to Fitness for Injury-free Tennis, all tennis players will find practical advice detailing how to become tennis-fit and injury-free. The 178 pages with 87 photographs are divided into 64 easy to read chapters that cover all aspects of injury prevention, stretching, strengthening and performance improvement. The book is small enough to carry in a tennis bag for daily study and the increase of body consciousness. It is available on Amazon. com for $14.95.

Chatham County Safety Net Planning Council Goes Live with Orion Health HIE; First HIE to use Newly Embedded Patient Registry Technology

Chatham County Safety Net Planning Council Goes Live with Orion Health HIE; First HIE to use Newly Embedded Patient Registry Technology

Chatham County Safety Net Planning Council (CCSNPC) of Savannah, Georgia has gone live with their Health Information Exchange (HIE), a solution that leverages both Orion Health’s extensive experience with HIEs which globally involve over 35 million patients, and the expertise of the Initiate® Catalyst Patient Registry software from Initiate, an IBM Company.

Santa Monica, CA (Vocus) May 4, 2010

Orion Health™, a leading provider of clinical workflow and integration technology for the healthcare sector, announced today that Chatham County Safety Net Planning Council (CCSNPC) of Savannah, Georgia has gone live with their Health Information Exchange (HIE). CCSNP leverages both Orion Health’s extensive experience with HIEs which globally involve over 35 million patients, and the expertise of the Initiate® Catalyst Patient Registry software from Initiate, an IBM Company. The combined solution delivers a complete and accurate view of a patient’s health records.

The Chatham County Safety Net Planning Council is addressing the health care needs of the uninsured and underinsured with the goal of improving health outcomes in the county through ongoing collaboration of its health providers. CCSNPC recognized that a critical piece in achieving this goal was the establishment of a health information exchange. Beginning with a pilot project, that will serve more than a quarter of a million people, the goal of the HIE is to extend participation to all regional healthcare providers in southeast Georgia.

Paula Reynolds, MD, MPH, CCSNPC’s Executive Director says that ensuring the electronic health record (EHR) obtained matches the patient being seen seems obvious, but with the explosion in electronic health data it’s increasingly important that this happens quickly and accurately.

“Assurance that the record you are viewing matches the patient you are treating is essential to ensuring optimal care. Automation of this process reduces the potential for error and decreases the time healthcare workers must spend searching for data,” Dr. Reynolds concludes.

Paul Viskovich, President Orion Health North America states, “Orion Health is focused on delivering the best solutions we can to our clients. Worldwide, Orion Health is a trusted leader in the EHR/HIE market, implementing health information communities involving over 35 million patients with hundreds of thousands of active users. We believe this combined solution provides the highest available accuracy, eases the purchase and service process for the customer by consolidating the solution with one vendor, and lowers the overall cost of implementing health data exchange solutions.”

“By leveraging Initiate® technology, Orion Health is providing its customers with technology that addresses patient resolution and patient search, a complex and highly necessary component for health information exchange,” said Sean Cassidy, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Healthcare, Initiate, an IBM Company.

Orion Health and Initiate’s agreement will provide customers like CCSNPC, with Initiate’s proven patient resolution and patient search technology integrated with Orion Health’s unparalleled secure and reliable Concerto physician portal, creating a single view of data. The new technology will ensure physician access to electronic health records for the correct patient and that a single, trusted and complete version of the record is delivered in real time for effective health information exchange within hospitals, clinics and across the healthcare community.
