Dr. David Blyweiss Announces New IBS Relief Protocol

Dr. David Blyweiss Announces New IBS Relief Protocol

Millions of Americans suffer with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Dr. David Blyweiss in Boca Raton, FL finds that diet and supplements can play an important role.

Boca Raton, FL (PRWEB) April 14, 2010

It's estimated that 11-14% of the US population suffers from the abdominal discomfort and altered bowel habits of the puzzling functional disorder named IBS. It has been linked to psychological stress, previous gastroenteritis from infection (usually food borne), small intestinal bowel overgrowth and food sensitivities. Regardless of the predominant symptoms, 92% of patients share bloating as a commonality. Many patients find that their problems stem from a specific incident, such as a vacation during which they experienced severe GI issues that were addressed with a few rounds of different antibiotics. Often, the symptoms become chronic and worsen with stress and/or with certain foods.

Most IBS patients have baffled a wide assortment of physicians in their quest to find relief from IBS (http://www. smacboca. com/functional_medicine. htmlhttp://www. smacboca. com/What-is-functional-medicine. htmlhttp://www. smacboca. com/our_doctors. htmlhttp://www. smacboca. com/about-drblyweiss. htmlhttp://www. smacboca. com/functional-medicine-ibs. html). Treatment ranges from psychological counseling, dietary changes, tranquilizers and antidepressants, antispasmodics and even hypnosis. Most patients are so thankful that the drugs can mask symptoms long enough to enable them to work or have a semblance of a social life that they have given up on a permanent "cure," but Dr. David Blyweiss offers hope through improve nutrition and targeted supplementation.

According to Functional Medicine (http://www. smacboca. com/functional_medicine. htmlhttp://www. smacboca. com/What-is-functional-medicine. html) Specialist, http://www. smacboca. com/functional_medicine. htmlhttp://www. smacboca. com/What-is-functional-medicine. htmlhttp://www. smacboca. com/our_doctors. html (http://www. smacboca. com/functional_medicine. htmlhttp://www. smacboca. com/What-is-functional-medicine. htmlhttp://www. smacboca. com/our_doctors. html) Dr. David Blyweiss (http://www. smacboca. com/functional_medicine. htmlhttp://www. smacboca. com/What-is-functional-medicine. htmlhttp://www. smacboca. com/our_doctors. htmlhttp://www. smacboca. com/about-drblyweiss. html) of Boca Raton's Sanctuary Medical (http://www. smacboca. com/functional_medicine. html) practice, "Many IBS suffers suffer with SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth), and minimal levels of gut Lactobacillus and Bifidobacteria. Foods that contribute to IBS can be identified through specific IgG antibodies. Most sufferers also have nutritional imbalances, digestive enyzme deficiencies, and increased intestinal permeability (Leaky Gut). After antifungal therapy removes the yeast, I replace the missing digestive enzymes. I then reinoculate the patient with the needed prebiotics & probiotics to increase beneficial gut bacteria; the bacteria that makes B vitamins and supports your immune system." The final phases of healing involve repairing the intestinal lining with glutamine and other medical food shakes and rebalancing the patient's life between the stresses of work, family and self care.

Dr. Blyweiss has found this regimen to work extremely well for IBS patients. "Once our patients understand what to avoid in order to stay healthy, they fall off the wagon only rarely. Most of them are taking no medications. Although they miss the pizza, ice cream and other refined carbohydrates they were found to be sensitive to, none of them miss the downstream effects of eating them!

Accordent Chosen by University of Northern Iowa for Campus-Wide Lecture Capture Platform

Accordent Chosen by University of Northern Iowa for Campus-Wide Lecture Capture Platform

Accordent Capture Stations used for undergraduate and graduate education and grant-based K-12 programs with NSF and DoD. The University of Northern Iowa has selected Accordent Technologies to provide a campus-wide automated lecture capture system that enables students and K12 teachers to meet academic and certification goals by playing back course content from their Internet-connected computers. The system enables professors to easily create and deliver online multimedia materials to help students review important concepts presented during class or keep up with studies when missing a lecture is unavoidable

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) October 26, 2007

Accordent Technologies today announced its selection by the University of Northern Iowa for a campus-wide automated lecture capture system that enables students and K12 teachers to meet academic and certification goals by playing back course content from their Internet-connected computers.

The system, which included an initial roll-out in classrooms at the College of Natural Science, Sociology and Behavioral Sciences, and the College of Education, enables professors to easily create and deliver online multimedia materials to help students review important concepts presented during class or keep up with studies when missing a lecture is unavoidable. Faculty are also using the system to capture student presentations, in addition to having students come to class having already watched and listened to the course content. In the latter case, faculty can then use class time for a variety of other interactive activities.

The Accordent Capture Station integrates with projectors, document cameras, control systems and overhead projectors in the classrooms to enable the automated capture and online publishing of video synchronized with visuals presented during lectures. Materials are published to the University of Northern Iowa intranet and also made available within the campus WebCT/Blackboard learning management system where students can easily replay them by clicking the Web link.

"With Accordent, we've taken a traditionally difficult and complex process of capturing, encoding, synchronizing and publishing video, PowerPoint slides and jpeg images to the Web -- and simplified it so it's very easy for professors to use without our assistance," said Rick Seeley, Instructional Technology Research and Development Manager, University of Northern Iowa. "No one has to touch the system; instructors simply log on to a Web page, type in the class name, and the system does the rest."

The Accordent rich media lecture capture platform also is used to support a variety of grant-funded programs designed to extend learning opportunities in advanced subjects for the nation's Pre-K12 school teachers. These include a program funded by the National Science Foundation offering K12 instruction and certification in the University's renowned Center for Education in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology.

Teachers watched the presentations and acquired the content using the Accordent system and then chatted in a chat room or e-mailed questions to the faculty member during the lecture. Another program funded by the US Department of Defense, extends certification opportunities for mathematics to K12 teachers stationed at US military bases worldwide. The system also allows the parents of students on these bases to watch and experience various instructional strategies and learning concepts in order to best help their children in the learning of mathematics.

"The rich media system is a strategic technology initiative for UNI, and one that has inspired our faculty to re-think the way they teach," said Marilyn Drury, Director, ITS Educational Technology, University of Northern Iowa. "Instructors are creating multimedia materials to help students be better prepared for class and raise the quality of interaction and debate. Others are encouraging students to create presentations as self-assessment tools for their personal electronic portfolios. It's an iterative process that's already yielded a great deal of creativity and innovation."

The Accordent Rich Media Communications Suite is the only automated, end-to-end infrastructure for creating, distributing, managing and measuring the effectiveness of multimedia presentation assets. The company's rich media creation products include its flagship Accordent PresenterPRO™, a live and on-demand webcasting solution with interactive features, such as polling, surveys and moderated Q&A; the Accordent Capture Station™, an easy-to-use, room-based appliance that enables anyone to webcast and record high-value presentations that take place every day in the world's meeting rooms, classrooms and boardrooms; and Accordent Engage™, a behind-the-firewall, enhanced audio webcasting system that enables multimedia webcasting from the desktop.

The company's media management platform is the Accordent Media Management System™, the first centralized online communications management infrastructure for ingesting, organizing, searching, publishing and securing multi-level access to Accordent presentations and other multimedia communications - including archived web - and video-conferences.

Healthy and Delicious Options for Holiday Gatherings Veggie Brothers Vegan Food for Every Palate

Healthy and Delicious Options for Holiday Gatherings Veggie Brothers Vegan Food for Every Palate

Veggie Brothers, an online vegan gourmet delivery service introduces healthy options for the holidays

Bradley Beach, NJ (PRWEB) November 22, 2010

Veggie Brothers, the country’s most extensive and affordable line of direct-delivery restaurant quality vegan healthy food, that is quickly becoming famous with both herbivores and carnivores, announced healthier options for holiday gatherings that won’t make stepping on the scales January 2, 2011 the most dreaded day of the new year.

The completely vegan offerings, available 24/7 online, include soups, appetizers, sides, entrees and desserts, all without the added guilt and can help make the planet more sustainable. There are documented studies on the negative effects that a total animal-based diet is having on both the environment and the individual. If every person in the United States would give up animal-based products even one day a week, the condition of global warming would become more manageable. According to Worldwatch Institute, U. S. livestock produces 130 times more waste than people as reported in Alicia Silverstone’s book The Kind Diet, where she references an article from Rolling Stone magazine.

Michael Balducci, founder of Veggie Brothers explained, “After a life-altering health condition, I had no choice but to change my eating habits and was frustrated by the lack of options that were available. At that time, non-animal based foods simply tasted bland, so I decided to make it my personal mission to provide both vegans and the mainstream with healthy, non-artificial options that were, quite simply, delicious, and that is how Veggie Brothers began.” Mr. Balducci added, “The Veggie Brothers choices are so good and satisfying a healthier lifestyle is much easier, and tastier, thanks to my extensive product line.”

Ordering is simple, just scroll through over 100 items ranging from appetizers to desserts and everything in between at http://www. veggiebrothers. com]. In a matter of a few days, delicious frozen packages are delivered direct and within a matter of minutes a fresh, hand-prepared flavorful meal is ready to eat.

About Veggie Brothers
Veggie Brothers is the first and only online vegan restaurant featuring vegetarian versions of America's favorite classic dishes and more. The company offers over 100 menu items -- entrees, soups, appetizers, sides, breakfasts, and desserts. All products are 100% Vegan and 100% Vegetarian. Chef-made in small batches healthy, delicious, affordable, and conveniently shipped frozen to your door (USA & Canada) in packaging that is easy to reheat and enjoy.

With so many calling Veggie Brothers "Vegan Cuisine for the Mainstream", one taste will show how we’ve perfected that art of creating familiar, all-time favorite dishes that are sure to fit within any family's culture and traditions.

Infant and toddler shirt designs include fun sayings such as Chicks dig me, Insomniac, High Maintenance and Babealicious. The trendy diaper bags at www. GiGiandCo. com are stylish and chic. They are made with satin brocade fabric and have matching changing mats. The diaper bags come in various colors from a rich, olive green to a playful, pastel pink. GiGi and Company also offers custom glitter paintings for the child’s room. They offer 3 colors; one for the child’s name and 2 for the background. The bright colors attract the child’s attention as they love staring at their personalized painting it as it sparkles! The hip infant and toddler shirts are just adorable. They carry pink, white and light blue onesies, infant and toddler shirts up to size 4T.

David Reuter said, "Our shirt designs allow the infants & toddlers to express their thoughts & opinions without even talking! As our little 9 1/2 month old lets other kids know, "hey, little man don't worry about it....I know you're slobbering all over the place but as my shirt says Drool is cool." After they read his shirt they let loose and put their inhibitions to the side. "

Other cool shirt designs include more edgy sayings such as Playgroup Pimp and Pimp Juice with a picture of a baby bottle. More conservative shirts include Princess, Here Comes Trouble, Drama Queen and Bruiser. The hip infant and toddler threads are funky and modern. The warm reception GiGi and Company has received from mothers, fathers and friends shows there was a void in the baby clothes arena.

Lainie Reuter said, "As new parents we wanted to dress our son in hip, stylish clothes but found none. Our options were expensive named brand clothes, boring outfits or incredibly cheesy, bubble gum baby clothes. Our thoughts were, "If daddy wouldn't wear it - why put our son in it? We’re definitely having fun with it! GiGi would be proud!"

GiGi and Company donates a portion of their proceeds to the Tibetan Healing Fund. The Tibetan Healing Fund promotes healthcare and education for rural Tibetan women and children. It is a non-profit humanitarian organization headquartered in Seattle, WA. Lainie Reuter said, "It saddens me greatly to know that rural Tibetan women do not have access to the proper healthcare needed to deliver their children. Tibetan Healing Fund is in touch with these ladies and train community midwives to assist them during the precious months of pregnancy, delivery and post-partum."

New Natural Formula Makes Diabetes Easier to Cure

New Natural Formula Makes Diabetes Easier to Cure

Ayers Naturals announces the launch of Adult Energy for Men, a liquid supplement that helps increase testosterone to healthy levels which is an important factor in defeating type 2 diabetes.

Silver Spring, MD (PRWEB) February 22, 2010

Several recent scientific studies have reported that many men with type 2 diabetes have low levels of testosterone. Further research indicates that increasing testosterone has a profound effect on stabilizing a man's diabetic blood sugar. Most men find that their blood sugars lowers and the amount of medication are reduced by 25% to 50%.

However, researchers have been reluctant to use testosterone replacement therapy due to the number of complications that can occur from using steroids even under a doctor’s supervision. Side effects from this treatment include baldness, breast enlargement, testicle enlargement and sperm count reduction.*

Ayers Naturals contends that testosterone replacement is dangerous because it ignores the body’s ability to regulate testosterone levels. By adding external testosterone, the body will either shut down its own production of testosterone or it will increase estrogen production.

Adult Energy for Men differs from testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) because it supply’s the body the exact nutrition it needs to build its own testosterone naturally. “This is a very important difference”, says Brian Ayers, President of Ayers Naturals. “The male body creates testosterone from what you eat. By taking in the right nutrition your body will create its own testosterone without the negative side effects.”

Adult Energy for Men is available at www. adultenergyformen. com.

Increasing testosterone also has been proven to help men with developing lean muscle mass, reduce belly fat and increase stamina for longer workouts which is needed for men to defeat diabetes.

Although Adult Energy for Men makes no claim to healing diabetes by itself, it does say that it can be a critical component of men’s overall quest to cure diabetes. “The formula also makes a difference in the sexual health and mood. The great thing is that you do not have to have low testosterone to enjoy the effects of the formula,” says Mr. Ayers.

About Ayers Naturals
Ayers Naturals is a leading a natural herbal tinctures company. The company focuses on developing healing formulas through combinations of effective herbs. Ayers Naturals also provides its clients and the public with the latest research concerning diabetes health and research.

Health Freedom Protection Act Introduced in Congress

Health Freedom Protection Act Introduced in Congress

The Health Freedom Protection Act restores the First Amendment rights of consumers to receive truthful information regarding the benefits of foods and dietary supplements by codifying the First Amendment standards used by federal courts to strike down the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) efforts to censor truthful health claims. The Health Freedom Protection Act also stops the Federal Trade Commissions (FTC) from censoring truthful health care claims.

Chula Vista, CA (PRWEB) November 12, 2005

Congressmen Ron Paul (TX), Peter DeFazio (OR), Dan Burton (IN), Walter Jones (NC), Rob Bishop (UT), John J. Duncan (TN), Roscoe Bartlett (MD), Jeff Miller (FL), Butch Otter (ID) and Tom Tancredo (CO) introduced the Health Freedom Protection Act, HR 4282.

If enacted, the bill will (1) amend the drug and health claim provisions of the Food Drug and Cosmetic Act (FDCA) to permit truthful disease treatment claims for foods and dietary supplements (presently FDA prohibits all such claims); (2) prohibit FDA from preventing any who sell foods and supplements from sending consumers government reports (and accurate quotes form government reports) on nutrient-disease associations; (3) prohibit FDA from preventing any who sell foods and supplements from sending consumers scientific publications on nutrient-disease associations; (4) limit FDA disclaimers on health claims to no more than three concise sentences; (5) require FDA to permit health claims to be made unless FDA proves there to be no scientific evidence to support the claims and no disclaimer capable of avoiding misleadingness; (6) compel FDA to approve or disapprove health claim petitions within 100 days or the claims will be automatically allowed; (7) require FDA to consider studies of the treatment effect of nutrients in evaluation of nutrient-disease prevention claims: (8) prohibit FDA from waiving conflicts of interest in its food advisory panels considering health claims; (9) reverse FDAs denial or restriction of the following nutrient-disease association claims: (a) saw palmetto treating benign prostatic hyperplasia; (b) omega-3 fatty acids and coronary heart disease; (c) omega-3 fatty acids and sudden death heart attacks; (d) glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate treating osteoarthritis; and (e) calcium reducing the risk of bone fractures; and (8) prevent FDA from disallowing structure function claims that include terms that refer to signs or symptoms of disease so long as the disease itself is not mentioned.

The bill will also (9) amend the deceptive advertising provisions of the Federal Trade Commission Act (FTCA) to make all publications exempt from regulation by the amendment to the FDCA also exempt from regulation by the FTC; (10) prohibit FTC from regulating as advertising any truthful and accurate summary of findings from peer-reviewed scientific publications; (11) require FTC to give notice and an opportunity to cure to any company suspected of engaging in deceptive advertising of a health benefit; (12) prohibit FTC from commencing a deceptive advertising investigation of a health benefit promotion unless FTC possesses proof by a preponderance of the evidence that the ad is false and misleading; and (13) require FTC to prove that an ad is false and misleading and that it actually misleads consumers before FTC may hold an advertiser guilty of deceptive advertising.

United States Leads the US$5.3 Billion Global Artificial Sweeteners Market, According to a New Report by Global Industry Analysts, Inc

United States Leads the US$5.3 Billion Global Artificial Sweeteners Market, According to a New Report by Global Industry Analysts, Inc.

Social and health concerns about obesity shoved the market growth for artificial sweeteners in most parts of the world, specifically the US and Europe. The combined market share of North America and Europe is more than 65% of the US$5.3 billion global artificial sweeteners market.

San Jose, CA (PRWEB) July 25, 2007

New age beverages, dairy products, salad dressings and salty snack foods represent the fastest expanding markets for the sugar substitutes industry, however from smaller bases. Beverages, notably diet soft drinks will continue to remain the principal market for artificial sweeteners. Global artificial sweeteners market (http://www. strategyr. com/MCP-1586.asp) is growing at a compounded annual rate of 3.7%, as stated in a recent report published by Global Industry Analysts, Inc.

Worldwide market for artificial sweeteners will be stimulated by weight reduction efforts, attempts to develop foods for diabetic patients, growing number of people trying to cut sugar intake, worries over dental caries, ever-increasing product introductions in the diet food & beverage category such as diet drinks, diet candies, diet gums, and diet ice cream. Aspartame based artificial sweeteners market (http://www. strategyr. com/MCP-1586.asp) worldwide is likely to cross the US$3 billion mark in 2008. Market for saccharin artificial sweeteners (http://www. strategyr. com/MCP-1586.asp) is declining as usage of saccharin is considered harmful. According to a 1960 study, high doses of saccharin caused bladder cancer in laboratory rats. The sweetener was banned in Canada in 1977. However, various studies were conducted on saccharin during 1977-1991, which revoked a law that required saccharin based products to carry statutory-warning labels. Saccharin is approved for use in over 90 nations, while most countries permit the use of saccharin at a restricted level, some others have completely banned it. Global market for sucralose artificial sweeteners (http://www. strategyr. com/MCP-1586.asp) is projected to grow fastest, registering a CAGR of close to 10%.

The FDA has presently approved five artificial sweeteners - Sucralose, Saccharin, Aspartame, Acesulfame K and Neotame and is reviewing two other low-calorie sweetener including alitame and cyclamate for consumer use. Aspartame represents the largest market for artificial sweeteners, accounting for nearly 50% of the global share. Introduction of any new low-calorie sweeteners in the market would result in increased competitiveness, price erosion and distributed customers.

Major players in the market include Nutrasweet, Tate & Lyle, Nutrinova, Merisant, McNeil Nutritionals, Danisco, Spherix and Imperial Sugar.

"Artificial Sweeteners: A Global Strategic Business Report", published by Global Industry Analysts, Inc. provides comprehensive analytics for the US, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, the UK, Spain, Asia-Pacific, Latin America and Rest of World. Major product segments analyzed include Aspartame, Acesulfame Potassium, Saccharin, and Sucralose.

Hands Off Our Ovaries Connects Women around the World Calling for a Moratorium on Harvesting Women's Eggs for Research; Protests Growing

Hands Off Our Ovaries Connects Women around the World Calling for a Moratorium on Harvesting Women's Eggs for Research; Protests Growing

Concern over health risks to women providing eggs for cloning research -- including the possibility of ovarian cancer -- is so high that a growing global grassroots effort is taking shape seeking to empower women around the world to organize and speak out.

San Ramon, CA (PRWEB) September 30, 2006

Concern over health risks to women providing eggs for cloning research -- including the possibility of ovarian cancer -- is so high that a growing global grassroots effort is taking shape seeking to empower women around the world to organize and speak out.

HandsOff Chair, Diane Beeson, just back from a conference in Korea sponsored by WomenLink said, "Women everywhere, from the US to Korea to Australia, are organizing to demand that their health not be sacrificed in the pursuit of scientific stardom, patents, and the quest for new technologies that may or may not turn out to provide treatments for others." Missouri is a focus for this movement since, come November, citizens there will vote on the state’s stem cell research initiative which enables egg harvesting.

In Korea, women have filed damage claims against the government and Seoul medical centers on behalf of victims of egg extraction who were misled into believing the procedures were safe. Women's health advocates and activists from the US, UK and India gathered in Korea to hear graphic evidence of damage suffered by women undergoing egg extraction. Meanwhile, HandsOff is planning demonstrations in Missouri as well as in Australia, where women are fighting to keep that nation’s ban on cloning in place.

What the current debate fails to clarify is that the proposed cloning research requires women’s eggs -- lots of them. Investigators want to remove the nuclei from women’s eggs and replace them with nuclei from cells taken from those with various diseases. Stem cells derived from the resulting clonal embryos may teach researchers something about disease, possibly suggest cures. The promise of cures may never be realized: no one yet has derived stem cells from a human clonal embryo; those derived from animals are causing tumors. Success is a gamble. Sadly, making women sick is almost a guarantee.

By necessity, healthcare facilities intake, utilize and maintain the most desirable elements of a patient's confidential information - from personal health data to Social Security numbers and credit card information. They are also open environments where patients, visitors, volunteers, vendors and staff come and go, making healthcare facilities particularly vulnerable to the inappropriate access and misuse of the sensitive data they keep. This fact, combined with the frequent exchange of data between departments, clinics, practitioners and patients, greatly increases the chance of a data loss incident.

While it may seem easier to ignore the risk, the risk will not ignore you. In this live Internet broadcast, a panel of data security experts will provide practical advice on fighting back against one of the industry's biggest threats. Register for the webinar now. Changing Lifestyles & Rising Incomes to Enhance Restaurant Sales, According to a New Report from Global Industry Analysts

Changing Lifestyles & Rising Incomes to Enhance Restaurant Sales, According to a New Report from Global Industry Analysts

Global restaurants industry is expected to witness rapid growth driven by changing consumer lifestyles and rising levels of disposable incomes. A rapidly expanding travel and tourism industry is also expected to boost sales of the worldwide restaurants industry. With vast potential offered by developing countries, several renowned restaurant chains are expanding operations in these regions.

San Jose, CA (PRWEB) September 9, 2008

The restaurant industry, although perceived as part of the food industry, is a major sector on its own, generating a large share of sales for the overall foodservices industry. The sector in itself features a large number of segments offering diverse range of food services. Restaurant sector primarily includes restaurants, food & beverage services offered in hotels, foodservice contract systems, retail stores offering food services, and similar food service sections in multiunit entities.

Growing preference for outside food brought on by busy consumer lifestyles is a major driving force for the global restaurant industry (http://www. strategyr. com/Restaurants_Industry_Market_Report. asp). Increasingly busy lifestyles of consumers with little time for cooking, and growing popularity of recreation and get-togethers offer enormous growth opportunities for the restaurant industry. Changing concepts of restaurant dining have brought forth the significance of novel and exotic tastes, luring consumers into experiencing this aspect. New outlets offering novel and exciting menus are expected to pull consumers to the restaurants. Growth in the tourism sector the world over is also expected to have a positive impact on the restaurant industry.

A healthy supply and demand balance, and changing demographics and consumption patterns are factors that offer support for long-term growth of the industry. Rising income levels, particularly among younger consumers, is a major factor influencing growth in the restaurants industry. Growing health consciousness among consumers is also a major factor contributing to the rising demand for healthy and organic food in restaurants.

Fast food restaurants market (http://www. strategyr. com/Restaurants_Industry_Market_Report. asp) is characterized by limited service, which implies no table service but a casual fast food option, offering mostly takeout menus. Despite high costs involved in their establishment, renowned restaurant chains have ventured into emerging markets such as Asia-Pacific, Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa. Majority of the restaurants keep local tastes and flavors in mind, and adapt their menus to incorporate the same. Fast changing lifestyle, and the blurring concept of family dinners is expected to provide a strong impetus to the fast food market across the world.

Sales from the limited-service or quick-service restaurant (http://www. strategyr. com/Restaurants_Industry_Market_Report. asp) segment are expected to grow rapidly, driven by enhanced consumer demand for convenience and value. Growth in the international and domestic travel and tourism sectors are also expected to promote sales in the limited service segment. However, the sector faces challenges in the form of increased competition from convenience and grocery stores, and rising operational costs.

The report titled "Restaurants: A Global Outlook", published by Global Industry Analysts Inc, provides a collection of statistical anecdotes, market briefs, and concise summaries of research findings. The report offers a quick primer, and update on the trends and outlook for the restaurant industry, and enumerates recent mergers, and acquisitions. The report offers a discussion on key regional markets including United States, Japan, UK, and China. Also included is an indexed, easy-to-refer, fact-finder directory listing the addresses, and contact details of 1,146 companies worldwide.

FLAVORx Helps Families Fight Pandemic H1N1 Influenza Virus By Making Antiviral Medicine Taste Better

FLAVORx Helps Families Fight Pandemic H1N1 Influenza Virus By Making Antiviral Medicine Taste Better

With the popular FLAVORx flavoring system for liquid medications, pharmacists are prepared to help children successfully take antiviral medications to fight the H1N1 and seasonal flu viruses. By improving the taste of these medications, including Tamiflu®, children are more likely to take their medicine as prescribed.

Columbia, MD, (PRWEB) September 17, 2009

As new cases of the H1N1 virus (swine flu) spread across the country and communities prepare for what is predicted to be one of the worst flu seasons on record, one Columbia, MD based biotechnology company is doing its part to help parents fight this pandemic flu. FLAVORx, a pharmaceutical industry leader in medication adherence, has developed unique and effective flavoring formulas that pharmacists use to improve the taste of antiviral medications, including Tamiflu (oseltamivir phosphate) - the most commonly prescribed medication used to treat both the H1N1 and seasonal strains of the flu virus.

"When the seasonal flu hits each year, we typically see increased requests from pharmacists looking for guidance on improving the taste of medications, both antiviral and antibiotic. We definitely see a spike in flavoring requests for Tamiflu," says Dr. Danielle Lavallee, Director of Pharmacy Programs at FLAVORx. "Based on our feedback from pharmacy professionals and parents, many children clearly struggle to take these important medications. Our three best flavors (http://flavorx. com/favorable_flavors. pdf) to improve the taste of Tamiflu are Bubblegum, Cherry and Raspberry."

The H1N1 strain of the flu virus is unique in that it affects children at a much higher rate than older adults, when compared to a typical seasonal flu virus. A recent H1N1 report (http://www. cdc. gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm5833a1.htm) released by the U. S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that children ages 5-14 are 14 times more likely to contract the H1N1 virus than adults over age 60. With a typical seasonal flu virus, children are normally two times more likely than older adults to contract the flu. With these figures in mind, it is critical that children who contract or are exposed to the H1N1 virus take their prescribed antiviral and antibiotic medications as directed, a term known as medication adherence. Because the taste associated with these liquid medications is often a barrier to doing so, improving the medicine's taste with FLAVORx can lead to positive increases in medication adherence. In fact, studies have shown that adherence rates for children on liquid medications are higher than 90% when flavoring is added. Without flavoring, medication adherence rates typically range from 50% to 60%.

"It's imperative for parents to know they have an option to make their child's medicine taste better when they go to the pharmacy. This is especially true for antivirals, including Tamiflu," states Stuart R. Amos, President and CEO of FLAVORx. "If a child has the flu, be it seasonal or H1N1, making sure he or she takes every last drop of the antiviral is extremely important. Flavoring the medication with FLAVORx can help."

Tamiflu is prescribed for children and adults who have contracted the flu virus, to keep it from spreading in the body. For the H1N1 virus, Tamiflu also is recommended as a preventative measure for people at a higher risk for developing flu-related complications. Tamiflu is not an alternative to the flu vaccine.

The President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) recently projected (http://www. whitehouse. gov/assets/documents/PCAST_H1N1_Report. pdf) that 30% to 50% of the U. S. population could become infected with H1N1 virus, causing an estimated 30,000 to 90,000 deaths mainly among children and young adults. This makes taking antivirals and antibiotics as prescribed more important than ever.

"We noticed a major spike in Tamiflu flavoring requests in the spring, when H1N1 first struck," says Lavallee. "As we prepare for the resurgence of H1N1 and the onset of the seasonal flu virus, we are doing everything in our power to educate consumers and pharmacists about the importance of flavoring antivirals, like Tamiflu, and antibiotics."

For children who have moved on to tablet forms of medication and are experiencing difficulty taking them, FLAVORx also offers Pill Glide. Pill Glide is designed to help both children and adults swallow tablets and capsules, including antivirals and antibiotics. For more information on this product, visit the Pill Glide website.

About FLAVORx
FLAVORx has been helping children take their medicine since 1994. The FLAVORx Pediatric Flavoring System is available in nearly all chain pharmacies, including CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, Target and Rite Aid, and many local independent pharmacies--nearly 40,000 locations in all. To find a local FLAVORx pharmacy, use the FLAVORx Pharmacy Locator (http://flavorx. com/locator/index. aspx) found on the company's website. Using FLAVORx's copyrighted flavoring recipes, pharmacists have safely flavored more than 30 million prescription and over-the-counter medications, making it easier for children to take their medicine and for parents to give it. Pill Glide, FLAVORx's newest product, expands their adherence-based offerings and continues the company's mission of improving lives and health-related outcomes through higher medication adherence. Online Daters are Now Looking for Health Insured Partners

Online Daters are Now Looking for Health Insured Partners

Is health insurance going to affect your online dating?

(PRWEB) April 11, 2006

Christine Ferris is searching online for that special someone. "I would like to meet a man who can relax and enjoy the woods, the fog, the sea, the mountains," says her profile on dating site True. com. "Someone who can feel the wonder of nature. I am a romantic and you are, too."

Also, her ideal man should "have health insurance and use it."

Health insurance is expensive, complex and bureaucratic. These days, it's also sexy. Right up there with washboard abs, a steady job and a fun-loving personality, health coverage is emerging as a hot selling point among online daters. It's especially the case among suitors of a certain age who need, and prize, good benefits the most.

Those who have it sometimes flaunt it as an asset, a sign to potential mates that they are serious, professional and grounded. Others troll for partners with blue-chip policies because they need coverage themselves, or want evidence — short of asking for a credit report — that a prospect isn't a slacker.

"I don't have time to waste," explains Ferris, a 45-year-old teacher from Sebastian, Fla. "If you care about yourself, then you're going to tend to care about other people, as well."

Lisa Dunbar, a 49-year-old legal secretary, recently posted her prescription for romantic suitors on Craigslist's Los Angeles site. "Are you strong, smart and sophisticated, confident and kind, without being too uppity or conceited? Do you make at least $75,000 a year and have health insurance?"

Dunbar says several years ago, when she was uninsured, she ended up in the hospital for hand surgery and had to rely on public assistance to cover most of the bills. The experience prompted her to change jobs to get health coverage. Now, she expects a mate with similar priorities — one who comes bearing his own deductible and co-pays. "I want somebody to be as together as I am," she says.

Medical coverage used to be a perk that many people took for granted. But at a time when insurance rates are soaring, and an aging work force has seen its benefits slashed, folks on the dating scene are learning that a good plan is hard to find.

It's not just women who are on a health insurance kick. "I'm looking for a woman who knows what she wants and isn't afraid to ask for it," says Dan Schmedeman's profile on Yahoo Personals. "One with a nice smile and a healthy attitude, that can be open and honest. … A flat stomach and health insurance plan wouldn't hurt, either."

Schmedeman, a 50-year-old independent home builder from Castle Rock, Colo., says he pays about $350 a month for high-deductible insurance, money he figures he'd save if he could join somebody's employer-sponsored plan. "I was kind of halfway joking — but not really," he says.

In a Los Angeles Craigslist posting, fraud investigator Joe Johnson recently tempted "sexy single moms" by pointing out that he "can supply all the little things like health insurance and the big things like a nice place to live, etc."

He got the idea for the ad after going out with a woman who asked him, point blank, whether she'd qualify for benefits if they ultimately married. "I said, 'Well, if that ever happened, of course, that's easy. You'd be covered immediately.' "

That relationship fizzled, but the personal ad that followed, featuring his insurance plan, drew dozens of responses — among the most he has ever received. Johnson, 56, says he went on a few dates, including one with a pregnant woman who didn't have coverage.

Finally, medical coverage has become such an elixir that some love-lorn types are moved to express themselves in verse. One Craigslist poster in St. Louis wrote:

"I want you to take me into your big strong... health insurance plan …

"Our intense feelings... become 100 percent fully vested in only 90 days …

"Let's drink some wine by a fire... and talk about mini vans …."

An Early Holiday Treat for Parents and Their Families — the Gift of Health

An Early Holiday Treat for Parents and Their Families — the Gift of Health

On-Line web application created to help busy parents manage and reward their children's healthy behaviors.

Sioux Falls, SD (PRWEB) November 10, 2009

There is no need for a calendar -- store aisles are already jam-packed with gifts for good little girls and boys, signaling to grownups, ‘tis the season to start shopping.

But for parents of children 3 to 18 years of age, Santa has come early this year, bearing a gift that will have them squealing with delight. They won’t find it under the tree or stuffed in a stocking; instead it can be found online at the recently launched website www. healthyreportcard. com.

Created by the crafty elves at interactiveTHINK, Inc., a consulting and development company based in Sioux Falls, SD, HealthyReportCard is an online software system created for parents by parents Kristi and Eugene Welch. The website offers an affordable, interactive tool to help moms and dads engage with their children and divvy out rewards when they make positive, healthy choices.

The idea was born out of need for Kristi and Eugene, the owners of interactiveTHINK, to get organized and develop a system of shared accountability between themselves and their two boys, ages 11 and 9. “After a particularly challenging week with work, school, meals, and chores, we reached a breaking point,” says Kristi. “We took a look at our life and realized we were all running out of control. After talking with family and friends, we realized we weren’t the only ones feeling the burn of running our own personal lives and those of our children too, and that’s when we came up with a plan.”

Their plan developed into HealthyReportCard, where instead of subjects like social studies, math, and reading, the Welch’s focused on three key elements at the core of living a balanced life: mind, body, and values. Each category is designed to focus on an area of healthy behaviors within children. One of the most difficult things to do is motivate a child to take an active role in their own healthy behaviors and that is exactly what this web application does. By tracking chores, nutrition, exercise and providing a rewards system based on points or allowance, kids can not only track their own information but earn virtual points to spend in an on-line, parent-created storefront.

Keeping a child healthy has never been easier.

“Since Eugene and I started using this system with our sons, life has found a rhythm, and we no longer feel so overwhelmed and frustrated,” says Kristi. “We talk more, fight less, and have a common vision in how to live a balanced life. It is our hope that other parents will find it to be as useful and beneficial as we have. With the holiday season upon us, we thought this is the perfect time to launch the site, giving parents an affordable, enjoyable way to bring a healthier way of living to their families.”

Until January 31, parents can sign up one child for free and upgrade to unlimited children for $19.95 a year. Email info(at)healthyreportcard(dot)com or visit www. healthyreportcard. com to learn more.

(PRWEB) June 7, 2002

Noise Free America has given its June "Noisy Dozen" award to Kokomo, Indiana for tolerating massive pulses of low-frequency sounds that assault neighborhoods and make people sick. The vibrations from electromagnetic pulse in Kokomo are linked to headaches, diarrhea, sleeplessness, nausea, dizziness, brain damage, vertigo, and frazzled nerves. The "Kokomo hum" is a constant low-pitched rumbling noise.

Kokomo is home to a huge Daimler Chrysler transmission plant, the world headquarters of the Delco division of Delphi Automotive, and Haynes International (manufacturers of high-performance alloys).

Kathie Sickles, head of Noise Free Kokomo, said, "If you think the power behind a boom car is really powerful, come to Kokomo and see what our frequency can really do. Spend the summer in one of our homes with your family and experience the noise and vibrations with electromagnetic fields. Watch your family's health deteriorate. Then you will understand."

LaQuita Zimmerman, also of Kokomo, noted that "the Kokomo hum is real. It causes vibroacoustic disease. It drives spikes of pain through people's eyes, ears, bones, and joints. It churns my guts. It causes Kokomo kids to wake up in the middle of the night with bloody noses. It robs people of their sleep and their sanity. It hurts children and women the most."

Zimmerman also noted that "dozens of other communities across the country and the world have been sickened by low-frequency noise. There's the 'Taos hum' in northern New Mexico, the 'Larg hum' in Scotland, and the 'Bristol hum' in England. Your community might be next."

According to Kathie Sickles, Indiana Senator Richard Lugar has been helpful in addressing low-frequency noise in Kokomo. She also noted that the Kokomo city council has allocated $1000,000 to address the problem.

"But it's time for action," she said. "We need tough standards on industrial noise--just like in Europe."

Ted Rueter, executive director of Noise Free America, commented that "low-frequency concussion waves are extremely harmful--from boom cars or frmo industrial electromagnetic pulse. We need to place public health above corporate profits. Noise pollution can be physically devastating."

Noise Free America is a lobby group dedicated to reducing noise pollution. Its web site is http://www. noisefree. org (http://www. noisefree. org).

Optima Health's Medicare Advantage Program Receives High Marks in National Survey

Optima Health's Medicare Advantage Program Receives High Marks in National Survey

Optima Health provides health insurance coverage to more than 380,000 members throughout Virginia.

Virginia Beach, VA (PRWEB) March 9, 2010

Optima's Medicare Advantage program scored above the national average in key areas in a survey conducted by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to assess the experiences of beneficiaries in Medicare Advantage plans. The 2008 Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS®) Survey of Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug Plans was conducted in the first half of 2008 and measured members' experiences with the plan over the previous six months resulting in a 75.3% response rate, which is above the national average for this survey.

In particular, Optima's Medicare Advantage plan scored above the national average in the areas of customer service, getting needed care, doctors' levels of communication getting information about prescription drugs as well as with their Medicare Virginia (http://www. optimahealth. com/OptimaHealthweb/media/Medicare/index. html) health plan overall. Additionally, in the area of Medicare-specific issues, the plan scored above the national average in patients getting needed special therapy.

"At Optima Health, we work hard everyday to provide quality services at affordable rates and to be a company that is easy to do business with. This year's CMS survey results reinforce that we are continuing to provide services that impact our members in a positive way," commented Michael M. Dudley, President of Optima Health.

The 2008 survey results were released in November and assessed the experiences of beneficiaries in Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug plans. Results focus on four main areas: (1) Health plan composite measures which measure the members' experiences with their Virginia Medicare supplement (http://www. optimahealth. com/OptimaHealthweb/media/Medicare/index. html) health plan, such as customer service, receiving care quickly and physician relations; (2) Overall health plan ratings which provide an overall rate of their health plan, care received from their plan overall, their personal doctor and the specialist; (3) Prescription drug composite measures which measures the members' experience with their prescription drug plan; and (4) Overall rating of prescription drug coverage which provides a rating of their plan's drug coverage and their willingness to recommend the plan for drug coverage.

The value of the CMS survey is that it enables Medicare Advantage programs to identify problems and improve the quality of care and services based on that information. For more information about the survey, visit www. cms. org.

Plastic Surgeon, Phoenix, Arizona, Proudly Supports Project for Business Women of Afghanistan

Plastic Surgeon, Phoenix, Arizona, Proudly Supports Project for Business Women of Afghanistan

Dr Heidi Regenass, plastic surgeon Phoenix, Arizona, supported Project Artemis by sharing her experiences as a female business owner and entrepreneur. The event was fun as well as informative for both attendees and hostesses.

Glendale, AZ (PRWEB) November 19, 2008

Project Artemis began in 2006 at the Thunderbird School of Global Management in Glendale, Arizona. It is an educational program specifically designed to empower women entrepreneurs from Afghanistan, giving them the tools to build successful businesses and pass on their success to others. The latest class of 14 graduated on October 24 after two weeks of classes, seminars and workshops on every aspect of owning and running a business.

As part of this special program, plastic surgery specialist Dr. Heidi Regenass co-hosted and participated in one of the many educational workshops. Dr. Heidi along with renowned make-up artist, Zethina, shared their personal experiences as women business owners, and in particular the value of partnering, networking and public relations.

As a plastic surgeon, Phoenix (http://www. drheidi. com/), Arizona, and business woman, Dr. Regenass understands the importance of networking and forming lasting partnerships as she has done with Zethina and her skin care salon. This was one of the lessons the Afghani women took with them and will apply to the operations of their businesses.

"Seeing the excitement on their faces as they envisioned ways to use our information was very rewarding," Dr. Regenass said. "I am thrilled that I could contribute in some small way to the success of my fellow business women on a global level."

Dr. Regenass is one of just a few women who perform plastic surgery in Phoenix (http://www. drheidi. com/), and she knows the power of connecting with fellow business women in the area to promote and grow her business. Her relationship with make-up artist, Zethina, is one such partnership. They consistently refer clients to each other and join together on projects such as Project Artemis to promote and empower other women in business.

Along with promoting partnerships, Dr. Regenass and Zethina also illustrated how essential marketing and public relations are to growing a business. The Afghan business women took away key, easy to implement techniques that they can use to grow their businesses.

The success of the day was not just the business information that was passed on, but also the camaraderie and fun the women experienced. With the venue being a spa, make-up tips and skin care products were given as well as relaxing massages and manicures.

Dr. Heidi Regenass, is a board certified plastic surgeon, through her private practice she performs plastic surgery in Phoenix (http://www. drheidi. com/), Arizona. Having been born in Zimbabwe, she incorporates her international experience into her practice by offering a holistic approach to cosmetic surgery and skin rejuvenation procedures. Prior to her medical training, Dr. Regenass worked as a health and wellness specialist in the United States and Southern Africa. Dr. Regenass owned her own corporate wellness company that provided employee and executive health programs to multinational companies in Southern Africa.

Due to her global business experiences, Dr. Regenass was able to impart a wealth of knowledge to the women of Afghanistan who want to grow their own businesses on a local and global level. The event on October 21st was a great success for the women of Afghanistan as well as the hostesses, Dr. Regenass and Zethina.

Sodexo Shares Top Breakfast Benefits For Students

Sodexo Shares Top Breakfast Benefits For Students

First meal of the day has surprising impact on young people.

Gaithersburg, MD (Vocus) March 4, 2009

To help raise awareness for the importance of breakfast for students, Sodexo (http://www. sodexousa. com/), a leading provider of food and nutrition services to more than 470 school districts across the country, has created a list of the 'Top Ways Breakfast Helps Students' in time for National School Breakfast Week (http://docs. schoolnutrition. org/meetingsandevents/nsbw2009/index. html), March 2 - 6.

"Studies repeatedly show that a healthy and nutritious breakfast is a key driving force for improved scholastic achievement from students in grades K-12," said Roxanne Moore, registered dietitian and national director of wellness brand for Sodexo, Moore said a Harvard University and Massachusetts General Hospital study discovered that students who usually ate school breakfast had improved math grades, reduced hyperactivity, decreased absence and tardy rates, and improved psycho-social behaviors compared with children who rarely ate school breakfast.

Sodexo's Top Ways Breakfast Helps Students:

1. Helps Kids Watch Their Weight
Research shows that eating breakfast every day is an effective means for controlling weight. By encouraging kids to make breakfast a habit now can help them lead healthier lives as adults.

2. Promotes an Active and Alert Lifestyle
Breakfast presents an ideal opportunity for a child to consume essential nutrients for health, one of which is iron. Iron is an essential component of proteins involved in transporting oxygen throughout the body, thus helping students concentrate in the classroom.

3. Fosters Friendships
Without a doubt, a student's ability to socialize with peers in a school setting plays a significant role in scholastic achievement. Kids who are well-fueled in the morning have more energy to socialize and engage in morning activities.

4. Teaches Life Lessons
When kids get an opportunity to assemble and prepare their own breakfast, they are learning critical life skills. By teaching kids things like the proper technique for cracking eggs, the importance of properly washing their hands before preparing or eating meals and how to measure ingredients to make dishes, kids are also learning about a broad range of subjects including nutrition, math and science.

For more student well-being tips from Roxanne Moore, visit her online radio program, 'Nutrition Matters with Roxanne Moore' at http://www. modavox. com/VoiceAmericaHealth (http://www. modavox. com/VoiceAmericaHealth)
