The Marine Mammal Center Announces the Leave Seals Be Campaign

The Marine Mammal Center Announces the Leave Seals Be Campaign

The Center asks California beachgoers to call its response hotlines to report ill or stranded harbor or elephnat seal pups.

Sausalito, CA (PRWEB) February 23, 2006

The Marine Mammal Center is launching an awareness campaign directed at beachgoers not to disturb or pick up harbor or elephant seal pups now that pupping season has begun. The campaign – Leave Seals Be – consists of public service announcements and web outreach strongly encouraging people to leave seal pups alone. In 2005, The Center rescued nearly 50 percent as many harbor seal pups as compared to 2004. The Center has attributed many of those rescues to human interactions and illegal handling. The public can take action if they spot an ill or stranded pup on a beach by reporting it immediately to The Center’s 24-hour hotline at (415) 289-SEAL (7325).

During the months of March and April, these seemingly vulnerable pups may be spotted alone on a beach, but it is likely that their mothers are close by, foraging for food, and will return shortly. “If you see an ill pup, please call and report it to The Center,” urges Shelbi Stoudt, Stranding Manager at The Center. “We may monitor the pup for 24 hours or longer depending on the situation. This usually gives the mother enough time to return for the pup. If she doesn’t return, trained volunteers and staff will then safely rescue it.”

The interaction or handling of harbor seal pups frequently results in maternal separation, decreasing their chances of survival. It is illegal to pick up, handle or disturb marine mammals. To do so, is punishable by law under the federal Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972 and could result in heavy monetary fines and potential jail time.

If you come across a harbor seal pup or any marine mammal that appears to be in distress, please call The Center’s 24-hour hotline at (415) 289-SEAL. In the Monterey or Santa Cruz areas, you can call (831) 633-6298. In the Morro Bay and San Luis Obispo areas, you can call (805) 771-8300.

What to do if you come across a harbor or elephant seal pup on a beach:

Stay at least 50 feet from it. Its mother may be just around the corner. Keep other people and dogs away. Call The Marine Mammal Center’s 24-hour hotline at (415) 289-SEAL.

The Marine Mammal Center is a nonprofit hospital headquartered in Sausalito, California. Staff and volunteers are dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of ill and injured marine mammals, to research about their diseases and to public education about them and ocean health. Since 1975, more than 11,000 California sea lions, elephant seals, porpoises, and other marine life have been treated, rescued along 600 miles of coastline from Mendocino County to San Luis Obispo County. Staff and volunteers uniquely combine rehabilitation with scientific discovery and education programs to advance the understanding of marine mammal health, ocean health and conservation.

Want to Lose Weight? Don’t Diet - Learn About Your Eating Habits and Make Small Changes to Become a Successful “Loser”

Want to Lose Weight? Don’t Diet - Learn About Your Eating Habits and Make Small Changes to Become a Successful “Loser”

Losing weight is a battle for many Americans. Weight loss diets have been the mainstream way to lose the extra pounds, however, since the diet revolution started in the 1960Â’s we are getting heavier, not lighter. The common thread among those who have lost weight and kept it off is making true lifestyle changes. Real Living Nutrition has designed a personalized program that will help identify what changes a person needs to make to achieve lifelong weight loss.

Santa Barbara, CA (PRWEB) April 13, 2005

Until now, the only way to get help losing weight was to try yet another diet where the same old results happenÂ… lose weight only to gain it back again and then some. Not to mention dieting is a major cause of slowed metabolism, decreased energy, decreased muscle mass, and increased stress and anxiety. So if you donÂ’t diet to lose weight, what do you do? Now there is something new; a non-diet approach to weight loss. The Mini Diet Makeover is an online program designed by a Registered Dietitian to help people learn about their current habits and get expert advice on how to make small changes that really work. After all, this is how people achieve long-term success. People who have lost weight and kept it off have done so by learning about their habits, creating clear goals, and making lifestyle changes.

“This program gave me a lot of information which helped me to get started towards my weight loss goals,” says Marla Fruit, a mini diet makeover client. “I got a personalized plan based on my habits from a Dietitian who also gave me a ton of great advice. Plus it was really fun to see my diet makeover. This helped me to see that I didn’t need to change my whole diet just certain parts. Once I started to implement the recommendations my weight came down without dieting or counting calories. I now know exactly why I had gained weight in the first place which helps me keep on track.” In addition to the personalized plan and makeover, clients also receive a portion size guide, a free monthly newsletter and a free copy of the Healthy Living E-Cookbook and Restaurant Guide.

The Mini Diet Makeover is a way for people to get a personalized assessment from a nutrition expert without having to pay costly fees. The 30 Second Hair Transplant is NOW Available in USA

The 30 Second Hair Transplant is NOW Available in USA

There is now a safe, natural and scientifically advanced way to eliminate the appearance of baldness and thinning hair. It is not a spray, cream or cover up, and is totally compatible with hair treatments such as minoxidil.

(PRWEB) June 13, 2002

ENDORSED BY HAIRLINE INTERNATIONAL

There is now a safe, natural and scientifically advanced way to eliminate the appearance of baldness and thinning hair. It is not a spray, cream or cover up, and is totally compatible with hair treatments such as minoxidil.

NANOGEN is a new complex of tiny, micro-fibres that blend perfectly with existing hairs due to being made of the same organic Keratin protein as real hair. This gives an instantly fuller, more natural looking head of hair as the fibres transform the thin and colourless “vellus” hair into thicker healthy looking strands. Theatrical artists, entertainers and public personalities use Nanogen extensively.

NANOGEN is applied quickly and without mess by simply shaking the container over the thinning area, releasing thousands of microscopic colour-matched hair fibres, which intertwine with, and branch off of the real hairs. Charged with static electricity, they bond in fir tree patterns along the hair fibre so securely that they will stay in place all day, in strong winds and rain, and will not stain or smear, but can be easily washed out with a shampoo wash.

NANOGEN should be used in conjunction with NANOGEN LOCKING MIST which is a fine mist specifically developed to increase the bond between the Fibres and the thinning hairs. Unlike standard hairsprays, this formula uses sophisticated alpha grade resins to join the thinner hair and Nanogen fibres naturally and durably.

Physicians worldwide recommend NANOGEN as it is completely safe to use topically. Nanogen is designed to be safe when used in conjunction with prescription drugs such as Minoxidil, Finasteride (Propecia) and hair micrographs (transplants).

In addition, Hairline International (The Alopecia Patients Society) has thoroughly tested and recommends Nanogen, as a cosmetic preparation – and testimonial shows extremely high levels of patient satisfaction (please see leaflet).

NANOGEN is available from Pangaea Direct Ltd in eight different colour shades and retails at £19.95 for Fibres (12.5g) and £9.95 for Locking Mist (75ml) plus £3 p&p.

National Security Asset Commissioned in Wake of President’s State of the Union Address

In the wake of President Obama’s State of the Union address in which he stressed the importance of securing our nation’s borders, a Pittsburgh-area company released a secure high-tech, communications-ready tractor trailer to the U. S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) to do just that - secure the nation’s borders.

Mount Pleasant, PA (Vocus) January 29, 2010

In the wake of President Obama’s State of the Union address in which he stressed the importance of securing our nation’s borders, a Pittsburgh-area company released a secure high-tech, communications-ready tractor trailer to the U. S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) to do just that - secure the nation’s borders.

The second of three mobile processing centers for CBP was completed Thursday by specialty vehicle manufacturer Mobile Concepts by SCOTTY.

The 53-foot tractor trailer, which is described as a CBP station on wheels, is equipped with all the same processing capabilities as a normal station and can be deployed anywhere in the nation whether to the northern and southern borders or either coast.

The mobile processing center left the Mobile Concepts factory at mid-night to begin its trek to the Washington, D. C.-area where it will undergo pre-deployment configuration and testing.

In addition to helping CBP agents more quickly process illegal immigrants, this tractor trailer is a nationwide strategic asset providing additional support for other federal agencies in case of emergency or natural disaster.

The equipment and communications capabilities allow the mobile processing center to double as mobile command center.

Mobile Concepts specializes not only in custom fabrication of commercial vehicles and trailers for agencies in government, military, fire, police, healthcare, utility and private enterprise, but also they modify ocean shipping containers and repurpose tractor trailers - much like the project for CBP.

The company has been working nearly around the clock for the past week to meet the Thursday deadline. The first mobile processing center was completed June of last year and was immediately transported to the Fort Belvoir, Virginia-area for equipment installation and then directly to Florida where it was put on stand by for the 2009 hurricane season.

Additionally, it was utilized during the G-20 Summit last summer in Pittsburgh as a mobile command center. This command center was not the only Mobile Concepts-built vehicle present during the G-20.

The company built five mobile command centers for the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Association, one of which was used during the G-20.

Skincare and Hormones: Restoration Skin Care After the Pill

Skincare and Hormones: Restoration Skin Care After the Pill

Skincare-News. com discusses adult acne that can develop after women discontinue use of oral contraceptives.

Rancho Cordova, CA (PRWEB) October 20, 2007

Research has suggested that oral contraceptives can actually improve and treat blemished and irritated skin. Unfortunately, after stopping the pill, many women develop unsightly cases of adult acne. Skincare-News. com's latest article, "After the Pill-Tips to repairing your damaged skin back to its healthy state," helps readers choose specialty products that target the skin's problem areas, so that women can clear skin of unwanted blemishes and irritations and restore skin to a healthy glow.
Http://www. skincare-news. com/articles. php? ArtID=440 (http://www. skincare-news. com/articles. php? ArtID=440)

Our hormones, or androgens, stimulate the sebaceous glands, which start producing excess sebum -- an oily substance. An overabundance of sebum then clogs your pores, and bacteria become trapped inside, causing acne. Oral contraceptives have certain hormones such as progestin and estrogen that lower androgen levels. This causes a good domino effect: With less androgen hormones, there is less oil production and less clogged pores, thereby clearing the skin of acne. This is why, for some women, after they stop taking the pill, acne and other bacterial irritations return.

Exfoliating the skin is very important for women with acne, because it gets rid of dead skin cells. A facial peel can serve as an excellent exfoliant. After using a facial peel product, your skin feels revitalized and re-charged. Importantly, exfoliating too often can irritate your skin and exacerbate your acne. Try exfoliating one to several times a week.

It's important that when acne occurs, it is treated instantly. Choose a moisture-rich acne spot treatment that will reduce redness and blotchiness without drying out the skin. Look for a formula that specifically targets mature skin, with an active ingredient such as salicylic acid. In addition to acne spot treatments, a toner is a refreshing way to get rid of acne and skin irritations as well. Choose a toner with gentle ingredients such as tea tree oil or other botanicals that will unclog pores while soothing inflamed skin.

An oil-free moisturizer is one of the most important steps in skincare for women who experience acne. It's critical to choose oil-free and non-comedogenic moisturizers, meaning the product won't clog pores or aggravate an irritation, and provides less build-up of oils and bacteria. Find one that is rich in antioxidants and vitamins, which will hydrate without adding harsh chemicals or impurities. Gentle formulas will allow acne or irritations to heal without exacerbating them. Many products also offer protection against aging and sun damage as well. Essentially, oil-free moisturizers hydrate the skin without clogging pores or adding unnecessary oils.

All in all, many women may have experienced clearer skin while taking the pill. But by adding a few effective products to their routines, adult acne can be treated even after the use of oral contraceptives has stopped.

Cosmetic Acupuncture: An Alternative to Plastic Surgery?

Madonna, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cher and many others have allegedly turned to an age-old treatment, which replaces the traditional facelift -- Cosmetic Acupuncture, which is also known as "acupuncture facial rejuvenation" or an "acupuncture facelift." Rather than cutting the skin or using harsh chemical peels, acupuncture provides more subtle results that are noticed over time. A recent study by the International Journal of Clinical acupuncture claims that 90% of those who tried facial acupuncture saw positive results such as softening of facial lines, improvement in skin tone, reduction of under-eye circles and a general facial glow.

It exhibits excellent activity against viruses including Hepatitus types B & C, Herpes simplex types 1 & 2, HIV-1 (AIDS virus), Infuenza, Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), and Vaccinia (Pox virus). It is also highly effective against animal viruses including Avian Influenza Virus, Avian Infectious Bronchitis, Canine Distemper Virus, Newcastles Disease Virus, and Pseudorabies virus. It kills Trichophyton mentagrophytes (the fungus that causes athletes foot), and Aspergillus niger (the black mold found in showers and dressing rooms.) It is also “mildew-static;” that is, it effectively controls the growth of mold and mildew, thereby reducing their associated malodors.

PureWorks’ One-Step Disinfectant is also an excellent light-duty cleaner, providing one-step cleaning and disinfection. Treated surfaces may be wiped with a clean cloth, sponge, or mop or allowed to air dry. Cleaned and treated surfaces are subsequently safe for children and pets.

Use PureWorks’ One-Step Disinfectant it to provide a clean and safe environment for yourself and those around you.

PureWorks’ Antibacterial Foam and Spray represent a break through technology for fighting infection.

Kills 99.99% of bacterial and other harmful germs that cause illness and infection. Persistent - Continues to protect your skin for hours after application. FDA compliant as both a First-aid Antiseptic and Healthcare Professional hand sanitizer. Strong antibacterial health claims allowed, as described in 21CFR333. No-rinse application for foams and sprays. Alcohol free.

These non-toxic, alcohol-free products exhibit exceptional antibacterial activity. They are gentle to the skin and do not sting or irritate when used to clean and treat minor cuts and scrapes. In fact, both of these products comply with or exceed all requirements set forth by the US Food and Drug Administration for antibacterial first aid antiseptics. PureWorks’ Antibacterial Foam and Spray help protect against bacterial contamination and help guard against the risk of infection.

The active ingredient in both the foam and the lotion is benzethonium chloride, recognized world-wide as a safe and effective antimicrobial compound. This “fourth-generation” quaternary ammonium compound is gentle to the skin while being tough on bacteria. Unlike many of the alcohol-based hand sanitizers on the market today, PureWorks’ Antibacterial Foam and Antibacterial Spray are alcohol free. Rather than drying or irritating the skin, PureWorks’ products soften and condition the skin while providing hours of lasting protection against bacteria and harmful germs that cause illness.

Use of either the PureWorks’ Antibacterial Foam or Antibacterial Spray is not intended to replace hand washing. Frequent hand washing helps remove dirt and oils that accumulate on the skin. The Foam and Spray are intended to be used following hand washing, to help guard against the risk of infection and to ameliorate the negative skin effects of frequent washing. Repeated use of these products between washing leaves treated skin feeling soft and smooth. Unique emollients have also been incorporated into the formulation to enhance the skin’s vitality and good health. In fact, most consumers find that the skin-conditioning attributes of these products are the primary reason they apply them repeatedly between washings.

Whether used for their cosmetic or medical attributes, both the PureWorks’ Antibacterial Foam and Antibacterial Spray help guard against the risk of infection while conditioning and moisturizing the skin.

A new article at Consumer Reports Medical Guide. org discusses treatment choices in healthcare that are often controversial and confusing, and the need for patients to be integrally involved in decision making about treatments. While Consumer Reports is most known for reviews and ratings of automobiles and consumer products, the institution encourages people to be savvy consumers when it comes to their own healthcare as well.

The patientÂ’s personal values and principles should serve as one of three tent poles that create the most effective treatments. The other two elements are the best available clinical evidence, and the physicianÂ’s own clinical experience. But often, the physician you see and where you live can impact decision trends.

For example, a man dealing with prostate problems has to weigh removing the prostate against the surgeryÂ’s somewhat greater trauma and risk. However, Consumer Reports Medical Guide relays that the actual choice made often depends on whether that patient is working with a urologic surgeon or a radiation oncologist.

What are other difficult healthcare questions one might face? Some include:

Whether to treat osteoarthritis of the hip or knee with drugs or with surgery. Whether, when and how to screen for ovarian cancer in women and lung cancer in smokers. Whether to screen for certain genetic diseases in people with strong family histories of those disorders. Whether to use medication in people who have mild diabetes or a high risk of developing it.

Coldkeepers, LLC, a Georgia-based Company, Now Manufactures Medical Products to Keep Sensitive Drugs Hot or Cold

Coldkeepers, LLC, a Georgia-based Company, Now Manufactures Medical Products to Keep Sensitive Drugs Hot or Cold

Expert in maintaining the cold chain with its line of thermal insulated bags and pouches already made available to the public in major retail stores throughout the USA, Coldkeepers now manufactures a dedicated line of high technology hot/cold pouches to the medical industry.

Thomasville, GA (PRWEB) October 8, 2005

Coldkeepers, LLC recently announced the manufacture of their thermally insulated medical pouches and bags in Thomasville, Georgia. These pouches come in a variety of sizes and can be printed with custom graphics. They are a great marketing tool as studies show they are reused over time by consumers. The products are ideal for transporting refrigerated medications, vaccines, specimens and samples. By keeping items cold or frozen up to three hours without gel packs or dry ice and up to 3 days with dry ice, it is the best way for manufacturers, distributors, labs and consumers to transport medications safely without breaking the cold chain. Eliminates bulky hard foam containers and fully recycleable. Thermal packaging services also available.

Our Kold-To-Go pharmaceutical bags are designed to provide a method for pharmacists to supply their customers with a way to transport and protect their medications from aggressive outside temperatures, cold or hot, as well as shocks and light. Our bags have been used more than 15 years in Europe by pharmacists and drug wholesalers to help preserve the cold chain at all its various stages.

Vaccines are a good example of temperature sensitive products. Most should be maintained within the recommended temperature range of 2ºC to 8ºC. Vaccines are delicate biological substances that can become less effective or destroyed if they are:

frozen allowed to get too hot exposed to direct sunlight or fluorescent light Great for Bacille Calmette-Guerin (BCG), reconstituted measles-mumpsrubella (MMR), oral polio vaccines (OPV).

According to the World Health Organisation, at least 7% of temperature sensitive medical products suffer in transit significant degradation in potency. Because of their exclusive design, our Kold-To-Go pharmaceutical bags offer an affordable solution to pharmacists wanting to provide their consumers with a method to safely transport their medications home.

Listed below are the Kold-To-Go pharmaceutical bag’s benefits:

Temperature protection for sensitive pharmaceutical products Great for insulin, vaccines containing diphtheria, tetanus, and/or pertussis, Haemophilus influenzae type B, all reconstituted vaccines, etc. Protection against high summer temperatures UV and IR Protection Customer recognition as the bags are reused over time for their personal usage A great way to promote pharmacy brands since bags can be custom printed A new profit center if the bags are sold to the consumer

10 Americans Honored As 2010 Parentgivers of the Year

10 Americans Honored As 2010 Parentgivers of the Year

To recognize these unsung heroes and raise awareness about the challenges caregivers face, Parentgiving created the Parentgivers of the Year Awards and is announcing the inaugural recipients, ten outstanding caregivers who were nominated by friends, family—including their own grown children—and health professionals who have seen their devotion firsthand.

(PRWEB) March 15, 2010

The numbers are staggering. Over 43 million Americans are caregiving for an older loved one. Beyond being unpaid for their efforts, many have had to reduce their hours at a paid job or even leave it completely to devote themselves to an older parent, a spouse or a sibling. Caregiving (http://www. parentgiving. com) brings emotional rewards, but also sacrifices, including the caregiver's own physical and mental health as their needs are constantly moved to the back burner.

To recognize these unsung heroes and raise awareness about the challenges caregivers face, the website Parentgiving (http://www. Parentgiving. com) created the Parentgivers of the Year Awards and is announcing the inaugural recipients (http://www. parentgiving. com/elder-care/cga-finalists/), ten outstanding caregivers who were nominated by friends, family—including their own grown children—and health professionals who have seen their devotion firsthand.

Electra Jordan of Abingdon, Maryland. More than six years ago, Electra, recognizing that her mother Audrey could no longer manage her kidney disease on her own, moved Audrey from Florida into her own home and has been caring for her ever since, including arranging for her dialysis treatments along with all daily care. Last year, Electra was diagnosed with abdominal cancer and is currently going through extensive chemotherapy following two surgeries, all the while continuing to take care of Audrey. As a single parent, Electra raised two sons, Troy and Yamil, and is also a devoted grandmother to two granddaughters, Asea and Nia.

Electra is being recognized with the grand prize including $2,000, a 3-day short-term respite stay for her mother Audrey at an Emeritus Senior Living (http://www. Emeritus. com) community and a $500 gift certificate for the Parentgiving. com store.

Caroline Bell of Anderson, South Carolina. Caroline became a caregiver four years ago when, in the space of one month, she lost her job after 18 years in the corporate world due to downsizing and discovered that her mom, whom she suspected had dementia, had amassed six-figure credit card bills and was hoarding purchases in her home. While her mom is being taken care of by Caroline's sister, Caroline is a full time caregiver to her dad, Robert, and became a certified nursing assistant to better care for him. She is currently pursuing a degree in gerontology and has started Preparing for Care, LLC, a service that educates other adult children about caring for their parents.

Corinne Pierson of Windsor, Connecticut. Cori is caregiver for her mom Barbara, a role that has intensified over the past eight years, coinciding with the birth of Cori's daughter. Cori's role as health advocate officially began 20 years ago, when her mom Barbara had breast cancer, and then extended to her stepfather Norman who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Most recently, medical tests revealed that Barbara has lung cancer, and Cori is trying to persuade her mom, who will be starting radiation treatment, to move into her home to better care for her.

Maria Comito of Urbandale, Iowa. Six years ago, Maria had just started to live her dream, moving to a new part of the country after her daughter Jade went off to college. Then she learned that her mother Grace, a widow, had Alzheimer's. Grace, a cancer survivor, had a long productive life, but now wasn't able to take care of either herself or Linda, Maria's mentally challenged older sister who had always lived with their parents. Maria moved back home to devote herself to her mother and her older sister. Grace passed away last month, and Maria continues the challenge of helping Linda become more self-sufficient.

Patricia James of New York City. Patricia was a professional nurse who gave up her career to care for her elderly parents as she raised her own two daughters, Antonica and Latricia. She was both a single parent and her parents' caregiver even as she battled many medical conditions of her own, including cancer and severe thyroid problems. Patricia helped her mother Annie through the loss of her husband, who lived to 84, and continues to manage care for Annie who has advanced diabetes and limited mobility.

Sandee Farley of Van Buren, Arkansas. Nine years ago, Sandee's husband Mark was diagnosed with Huntington's disease, the debilitating illness with no cure, and she devoted herself to his care. During this time, her caregiving also extended to his mom, a very close friend who suffered a stroke, and her own mom Alyce who has Alzheimer's. Four years ago, Sandee transitioned to a one-level home where her husband could better maneuver and brought Alyce to live with them once Alyce could no longer live on her own.

Caroline, Cori, Maria, Patricia and Sandee are each being recognized with a $200 gift certificate for the Parentgiving store and a 2-day short-term respite stay for their loved one at an Emeritus Senior Living community near them. In addition, Maria will receive the Medminder Maya System with one year's subscription service to make medication adherence easier for her sister.

Henry Doss of West Jefferson, North Carolina. Three years ago, shortly after helping his wife Christine handle the loss of her parents after six years of medical problems, Henry's stepfather fell ill and passed away. Henry then focused his efforts on helping his mother Clara, who lived in another part of the state, stay independent. Henry coordinated all legal and financial matters and arranged medical care for her, traveling back and forth as needed when she fell and broke her hip. Two years ago, when the family realized that it would be best for his mom to move in with them, Henry found a new house where they could all live comfortably.

Julie Lisiewski of Elysburg, Pennsylvania. Julie has been taking care of her mom Anna for the past 13 years, since Anna fell and broke a vertebra. Julie first moved Anna from a house to an apartment where Anna could better manage. But eight years ago, after Anna suffered a severe stroke, Julie moved her into her home. Julie is a nurse, originally specializing in neonatal care, but her caregiving allows her to work only limited hours. At 89, Anna suffers from severe osteoporosis and is extremely frail.

Sally Casey of Grapevine, Texas. Sally lost her mom to cancer in 2000, after 10 years of helping her get through various treatments. She has since been caregiver to her dad Harry, who had has numerous health conditions of his own. Now that Harry, 90, needs greater care, Sally is helping him transition to an assisted living facility, which she says will actually give him greater independence, more attention and opportunities for social interaction. Sally lives in what she calls the "club sandwich" generation, helping care for her daughter Junell's toddler as well.

Tanya Baugus of Grand Prairie, Texas, has spent years behind the wheel of a minivan dubbed the "Senior Shuttle," driving for her elderly aunts and uncles who have no children of their own and depend on her. The shuttle took on two more passengers in 2009 when Tanya made the decision to move her parents, who had been battling health issues, from their rural home some two hours away to a local senior living facility. Their health problems continued, especially for her mom Marie who passed away last month. As Tanya honors her mother's memory, she is focusing her attention on her dad, LaVerne, who is emotionally fragile and has early signs of dementia and arthritis.

Henry, Julie, Sally and Tanya are each being recognized with a $150 gift certificate for the Parentgiving. com store.

You can read more about each of these deserving 2010 Parentgivers Of The Year honorees online at the Parentgiving website (http://www. parentgiving. com/elder-care/cga-finalists/).

The 2010 Parentgivers Of The Year Judging

The awards were based on the psychological, social, financial and medical issues faced, challenges that have been overcome to provide care, sacrifices made, and the impact the care has had on the care recipient. The judging panel included:

Joan Garbow, a licensed clinical social worker, a certified case manager and a member of the National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers. Currently in private practice, Joan works with clients throughout Fairfield County, CT, by assisting families with eldercare issues.

Michael Tucker and Jill Eikenberry, New York-based stage actors and husband and wife. Michael's latest book, Family Meals, chronicles the family crisis that unfolded when Jill's mom Lora started having difficulty functioning after her second husband died. They faced the anguish of long-distance caregiving as they tried to adjust Lora's California-based living arrangements to address the beginnings of dementia and her angry resistance to their help, ultimately creating a family-based living arrangement in New York City.

Bob Silver, co-founder of Parentgiving. The Parentgiving. com website grew out of Bob's own family experiences. Bob and his sister Jackie were the primary caregivers for both of their parents, Sylvia and Louis. After becoming educated about assisted living and other care options, Bob helped his parents find care workers to allow them to stay in their own home. He lost his mother shortly before her 90th birthday, after almost 20 years of fighting cancer. In October 2008, his father passed away at age 93.

Julie Davis, chief content officer of Parentgiving. Julie is responsible for all content on Parentgiving including the daily news reports, blogs and features in 16 learning centers (http://www. parentgiving. com/elder-care/caregiver/) from nutrition and better health to Alzheimer's to palliative care. She is the author of over 50 books, many on fitness and health, and the creative force behind 25 magazine launches throughout her publishing career.

Secure Electronic Policy Delivery for the Deregulated Insurance Industry

Secure Electronic Policy Delivery for the Deregulated Insurance Industry

Plymouth Rock Companies Improve Customer Service and Drive Down Costs with Striata eDocument Delivery

New York, NY (Vocus) September 16, 2008

The Plymouth Rock Companies, a leading provider of auto insurance (http://www. striata. com/index-landing. php) to New England drivers for nearly 25 years, has implemented Striata's Secure eDocument Delivery solution.

Paper policies will be replaced by delivering secure electronic documents (http://www. striata. com/index-landing. php) directly to consumers, helping Plymouth Rock customers better manage their automotive obligations.

Before April 2008, insurance regulations in Massachusetts (http://www. striata. com/index-landing. php) dictated a uniform pricing model. Today, the newly deregulated market allows for competitive pricing, and has opened up the market to national insurance chains. In the reformed marketplace, Plymouth Rock continues to focus on customer convenience and selected Striata eDocument Delivery in order to streamline previously cumbersome paper processes.

With Striata's eDocument Delivery solution, customers receive automotive updates, such as bills, policy documents and reminders when their inspections, licenses, and registrations are due. These are delivered directly to the consumer's email inbox. Secure eDocument Delivery also supports Plymouth Rock's agents by helping to reduce the number of calls and requests agents receive regarding billing and policy information (http://www. striata. com/index-landing. php).

In addition to enhancing the customer's experience, The Plymouth Rock Companies will realize operating efficiencies by limiting paper production and mail distribution. eDocument Delivery allows the company to dramatically reduce costs through electronic delivery.

"Plymouth Rock has a long history of identifying innovative ways to deliver outstanding service to our consumers and agents," said Hal Belodoff, president of Plymouth Rock Assurance. "Eservices are another example of our trying to make our customers' lives easier."

EPolicies help Plymouth Rock to eliminate printing & postage costs
Garin Toren, Chief Operating Officer for Striata North America, points to ePolicies as just one example of the cost saving services that Striata provides for insurers. With a typical insurance policy (http://www. striata. com/index-landing. php) running 30 pages or more, quantifiable savings average more than $6 per policy, and significantly higher for complex commercial policies.

While impressive, these savings are also not limited to initial printing and postage: Industry regulations require insurers to generate and deliver a new policy or amendment for every change made. The true cost of paper usage therefore includes reprinting and resending. (At Plymouth Rock, policies were traditionally printed again by the broker before being sent to customers, a process which further compounded the expense and associated environmental impact.)

Unlike paper policies where the expense of printing and posting is repeated with each policy change, the savings from delivering ePolicies can be realized again and again.

"Insurance, with its extensive paper output, is an industry sector well suited to our eDocument Delivery solutions," says Toren.

"In the USA specifically, ten large brand insurers have come on board with Striata is less than 14 months. We are looking forward to driving massive paper turn off in North America, as we have done internationally. Those US clients live with us are already showing significantly higher adoption rates than any previous strategy."

EDocument advantages for the insurance industry include
Proven user adoption methodologies ensure dramatic paper turn-off savings (http://www. striata. com/index-landing. php);  Significant, immediate ROI;  Promotes customer retention through unique market differentiation;  Adds new touch points that bypass Do Not Call and Do Not Mail lists, providing valuable cross-sell opportunities. Striata eDocument success
Striata provides services and strategies to some of the largest and well known insurance brands including AIG, Chubb, Arrowhead, Sierra Health, Plymouth Rock and Allianz. These clients are successfully using Striata to replace paper intensive processes with cost effective electronic document delivery that reduces costs and creates market differentiation.

For more information and case studies on maximizing customer adoption of paper turn off with electronic documents, visit www. striata. com.

About Striata
Striata's Secure eDocument Delivery and Email Bill Presentment & Payment (EBPP) (http://www. striata. com/index-landing. php) are solution sets that deliver a rapid reduction in operational costs, quicker payments and an enhanced customer experience.

Striata revolutionizes the way bills, statements, policies, collection notices, letters, paystubs and other high volume system-generated documents are delivered and paid. Registration requirements are eliminated by emailing feature rich, interactive, encrypted documents directly to the inbox and enabling innovative 1-click electronic payment from within the document itself.

Direct email delivery of bills and statements (http://www. striata. com/index-landing. php) dramatically increases customer adoption of electronic documents, paper turn off and ePayments. This enables Striata's clients to achieve rapid ROI, to complement their existing self-service and e-communication strategies, to significantly reduce paper output and to meet their carbon footprint / environmental impact targets.

Zenlet® Green Tea Bracelets Have People Talking. The Real Buzz Is With Young Adults

Zenlet® Green Tea Bracelets Have People Talking. The Real Buzz Is With Young Adults

Zenlet. com releases new product Zenlet Green Tea Bracelets for health conscious, young adult and teenager markets. The Zen bracelets are made out of green tea which absorbs into your skin and body for health benefits. While the bracelets are a great gift idea for the health conscious person-on-the-go who doesn't like the taste of green tea, the real excitement is coming from the young adults who believe the bracelets provide good luck.

San Diego, Calif. (PRWEB) October 10, 2008

Green tea attracts a lot of attention these days for its antioxidants and other health benefits. Just search online or go into any supermarket and you'll see everything from green tea energy drinks to green tea ice cream. A market typically designated for health-aware adults, has now expanded to young adults and teenagers with talk building on every college campus and schoolyard.

After six months of testing, Zenlet. com released their Zenlet® Green Tea Bracelets product line September 1, 2008 on www. zenlet. com and is being made available through online retailers. While the bracelets are a great gift idea for the health conscious person-on-the-go who doesn't like the taste of green tea, the real excitement is coming from the young adults who believe the bracelets provide good luck.

The bracelets are designed as a Zen Bracelet, or a Zenlet, made with green tea. The bracelets are a first-as-its-kind and come in three designs and two sizes. Each design embraces a theme of Love, Peace, or Compassion and is shipped with either a drink coaster or bookmark that is tied to that theme. Independently tested, the patent pending technology allows the green tea to absorb into your skin and body through a process called transdermal absorption. The bracelets should be worn for eight to twelve days before the green tea is completely absorbed. The bracelets are made with all natural ingredients and colors with no metal or plastic and environmentally safe.

"Soaking hemp or cotton bracelets in green tea doesn't allow optimal transdermal absorption", explains David Jensen, CEO of SoutherLee, Inc. "So our design team developed a proprietary drying process using green tea grind and green tea powder to improve its absorption into the skin." Jensen also adds, "The best way to get the health benefits from green tea is still to drink green tea but our Zenlet Green Tea Bracelets are fun, attractive to wear and provide a continuous dose of green tea."

About Zenlet. com

Zenlet. com is a division of SoutherLee, Inc., an innovative novelty product firm located in San Diego, California. A privately held company founded in 2006, SoutherLee, Inc. specializes in developing unique, efficacious, socially responsible products. “Causeless Causation – The Need for Stock Market Caution”...The Latest Updated Research Findings from aiqresearch. com

“Causeless Causation – The Need for Stock Market Caution”...The Latest Updated Research Findings from aiqresearch. com

Can the stock market go up indefinitely? Where might one look to identify potential trouble spots? Why must caution now be the operative watchword for all investors? A must-read analysis for anyone with money in stocks.

Boulder, CO (PRWEB) April 17, 2006

aiqresearch. com has just released its updated research into the direction of the stock market for 2006 and beyond available at mepa. aiqresearch. com. In it, they note that the risks now clearly outweigh the rewards and that “the fragility underlying this market makes it ripe for a shock or a serious downward move.”

The report provides startling new insights into why market crashes occur and provides a new viewpoint on the underlying factors that contribute to them.

Looking to the future, the report details numerous factors that are presently weighing on the market which are being widely ignored by the investing public. A must-read for anyone with money in stocks, “Causeless Causation – The Need for Stock Market Caution” reminds readers that “there has not been a single (healthy) 10% correction to this market climb since its inception in ‘03” and that “Seasonally speaking, the stock market has gain a woeful.02% on average, between the end of April and the end of October, going back to 1950.”

Neither overtly bullish or bearish, the provocative article counsels that “all investors must now clearly distinguish between experience and exposure and take appropriate action to insulate themselves against a (possibly significant) market downturn.

Experience looks to the past and considers the probability of future outcomes based on historical occurrence. Investors are happy to remember the huge gains that they enjoyed in each year of the late 90s. To some, this has now become their bellwether, their expectation for the future (and quite possibly their undoing).

Exposure, on the other hand, is a risk assessment of where things might go, and includes the consideration of an event, and its ramifications, that history to date has not revealed. Exposure was what was ignored in early 2000 when everyone was giddy over their market gains. It’s six years later, and the losses that ensued have yet to be recovered.”

Aiqresearch. com is a financial research and consulting firm in Boulder, Colorado which utilizes artificial intelligence technologies to assist its banking, mutual fund and high net worth clients in formulating investment strategies. It also offers Market Equity Protection Agreements (MEPAs) to individual investors wanting to protect their portfolios against declines in value while fully participating in any appreciation in the stock market.

The Marine Mammal Center Conducts Leptospirosis Study as Seasonal Illness Peaks in California Sea Lions Along the Coast

The Marine Mammal Center Conducts Leptospirosis Study as Seasonal Illness Peaks in California Sea Lions Along the Coast

Veterinarians from the Center will take blood samples from wild California sea lions in order to determine when and why this species contracts leptospirosis. The disease is a bacterial infection that affects the kidneys and outbreaks of it tend to occur cyclically every 4-5 years in California.

Sausalito, Calif. (PRWEB) October 22, 2008

The Marine Mammal Center is seeing a large number of leptospirosis cases in California sea lions this year and is leading a study to determine when and why the sea lions contract this disease. Every four to five years, the Center sees a surge in the number of sea lions admitted as a result of this bacterial infection that affects the kidneys and can be lethal for patients. The current research will focus on the factors contributing to these cycles of disease so that scientists will have an understanding of how the disease spreads and what the risks are to sea lions and other animals. Recently, the Center began taking blood samples, tagging, and releasing wild juvenile California sea lions in the Bay Area as part of the new research study.

"The blood samples our team will collect from wild California sea lions will help them determine kidney function and exposure rates among these animals," said Dr. Jeffrey Boehm, Executive Director at The Marine Mammal Center. "The data will also help us understand more about the susceptibility of sea lions in the population during an epidemic and clarify the relationship between the stranded sea lions with leptospirosis we see here at the Center and those that are susceptible in the population."

Leptospirosis epidemics were first documented in California sea lions in the early 1970s and are caused by spiral shaped bacteria called leptospires. Many different animal species, including humans, carry the bacterium which can leech into water or soil and survive there for weeks to months. Humans and animals can become infected through contact with contaminated urine, water, or soil. If not treated, the patient can develop kidney damage, meningitis, liver failure, and respiratory distress. The Marine Mammal Center advises beach goers and their dogs to stay away from marine mammals they may encounter on beaches and to call the Center's 24-hour response line at (415) 289-SEAL should they come across any marine mammal in distress.

Collaborators in this new study include the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration, University of California Los Angeles, University of California at Davis, Penn State University and the National Animal Disease Center in Ames, Iowa.
High resolution photos of trained personnel from The Marine Mammal Center performing blood draws for this study are available upon request.

About The Marine Mammal Center:
Headquartered in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area in Sausalito, California, The Marine Mammal Center is a nonprofit veterinary hospital, research and educational center dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of ill and injured marine mammals - primarily elephant seals, harbor seals and California sea lions - and to the study of their health. Patients that become healthy again are released back to the ocean. Since 1975, the Center has rescued and treated more than 13,000 marine mammals and has accumulated a body of knowledge about marine mammal and ocean health from its patients. By educating the public about marine mammals, the Center hopes to foster ocean stewardship and conservation. For more information, visit www. marinemammalcenter. org

INFINITYQS INTERNATIONAL RELEASES SPC SUITE 2004

INFINITYQS INTERNATIONAL RELEASES SPC SUITE 2004

First Product of Its Kind to Integrate Advanced Real-time Statistical Quality Control with Lot Genealogy and Support for FDA's 21 CFR Part 11.

Fairfax, VA, (PRWEB) November 19, 2003 -

Wide quality control manufacturing solutions, today announced that it has unveiled the 2004 version of its flagship solutions suite, InfinityQS SPC 2004. The new software will provide manufacturers the ability to enforce stricter quality control measures, minimize human error and increase compliance with FDAÂ’s latest regulations.

Major new enhancements include:

· Lot Genealogy Tracking and Reporting: This merges complete lot traceability with advance statistical reporting. Lot Genealogy provides powerful traceability of all component and final finished good lot numbers and combines this information with complete lot summary statistical analysis. Reporting includes bottom-up reports for component lots and top-down reports for finished goods lots. For example, users may wish to determine what materials were used in the production of a particular finished goods lot (top-down) or investigate which finished lots were created from a particular lot of incoming material (bottom-up).

· 21 CFR Part 11 Enhancements: These include Change History and Reason for Change tracking and reporting, that support FDAÂ’s 21 CFR Part 11 regulatory requirements. These features are based on sound principles of security and traceability that must be part of all compliant quality systems. The Change History and Reason for Change provide the Who, What, When, Where and Why to any change within the quality system database – an absolute requirement for regulated industries.

· Checkweigher Data Acquisition Driver: This driver collects real time test values from checkweigher equipment, performs extended calculations on those values and stores summary subgroup information into the InfinityQS database.

Mike Lyle, president of InfinityQS, stated: "We are very excited to release this best-in-class suite of solutions for today's demanding manufacturing environment. Our customer-centric solutions will allow users to do real-time statistical process control on their component lots and track them across a product’s cycle. The benefit of this information to an organization can be measured in the millions of dollars. Imagine having the product knowledge necessary to be able to limit a recall or to avoid a product recall all together. Then, combine this functionality with our support for 21 CFR Part 11 and you get a system that provides huge benefits to regulated and non-regulated industries alike.”

Prior to its release, InfinityQS SPC 2004 software was beta tested for over ten months with several Fortune 100 companies in the pharmaceutical and food areas.

“InfinityQS SPC 2004 is the real thing. We are very impressed with its functionality,” said a member of the SPC project team of a Fortune 100 health care manufacturing firm. “We have searched far and wide and found that this product is the only one that meets our 21 CFR Part 11 requirements.”

Labor Day Celebrations Abound, American Workers Continue to Endure Unnecessary Health Risks

Labor Day Celebrations Abound, American Workers Continue to Endure Unnecessary Health Risks

We have known about the dangers of asbestos for decades, yet working men and women are still exposed to these harmful minerals, needlessly putting lives at risk.

New York, NY (PRWEB) September 4, 2010 —

Labor Day is the day reserved for honoring and celebrating workers, but the day should also be a time to think about the health risks workers face from asbestos, says New York personal injury lawyer Joseph W. Belluck (http://www. belluckfox. com/joseph-belluck. html), of Belluck & Fox, LLP.

As we have done since 1882, on the first Monday of September we celebrate the social and economic achievements of the American worker. The labor of the American workforce is credited with giving our nation the highest standard of living and the highest level of production ever achieved by a society.

“Not only is Labor Day a time to pay tribute to workers, but the day is also the perfect time to highlight areas where we must work more diligently to protect workers,” says Belluck. “People are coming in contact with asbestos and they are not being protected,” he adds.

Though the dangers of these naturally occurring minerals known as asbestos (http://www. belluckfox. com/asbestos. html) are well-documented, asbestos is still not banned in the United States and is being shipped by Canadian mines all over the world. Construction workers often come in contact with asbestos when renovating or demolishing buildings. Custodial workers and maritime employees may be exposed at work, increasing their chances of developing mesothelioma, the deadly cancer that attacks the lining of the lungs.

“The tragedy is that we know the harmful effects of asbestos and still we watch as the number of mesothelioma cases continues to rise,” Belluck says.

About Belluck & Fox, LLP

New Comprehensive Guide Reveals the Ins and Outs of Health Savings Accounts

New Comprehensive Guide Reveals the Ins and Outs of Health Savings Accounts

Vimo Research Group partners with nation's leading HSA expert to publish ultimate guide to HSAs.

Mountain View, CA (PRWEB) November 1, 2007

The Vimo Research Group has partnered with Roy Ramthun, former Senior Advisor to the Secretary of the U. S. Treasury for health initiatives and former Health Care Advisor to President George W. Bush, to present the most up-to-date and comprehensive guide to Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) available on the Internet. HSAs are accounts that give Americans the opportunity to invest money tax free, which they can then spend on qualified health care expenses or save for retirement.

The report, authored by Ramthun, offers a thorough review of what qualifies a health plan to be HSA eligible and gives helpful guidance on:

· Finding an HSA qualified plan: Not all plans with high deductibles are compatible with HSAs. Learn what qualifies and what doesn't.
· Realizing the greatest savings: Individuals can maximize their savings (and tax deductions) by contributing the maximum amount to their HSA every year. Those age 55 and older can make additional catch up payments as well.
· Understanding plan options: Although HSA-qualified health insurance plans have high deductibles, they are not bare bones plans. Most HSA-qualified plans cover preventive care and all must provide true catastrophic protection by limiting annual out-of-pocket health care expenses.
· Maximizing the flexibility of an HSA: HSAs can be used to pay for some health care expenses not covered by insurance, but not every medical expense is "qualified." For instance, cosmetic surgery generally cannot be paid for with an HSA.

The report, "The Common Sense Guide to Health Savings Accounts," is available either as an interactive online guide or as a downloadable PDF, for free at http://www. vimo. com/reports (http://www. vimo. com/reports)

Spring 2010’s Top 5 Makeup & Hair Trends

Spring 2010’s Top 5 Makeup & Hair Trends

In the market for a spring beauty pick-me-up? Spring 2010 is flush with beauty trends to adopt instantly, with minimal risk and maximum return. Here are five fresh looks to try right now!

Rancho Cordova, CA (PRWEB) May 3, 2010

Wipe off that burgundy lipstick and look outside – it’s spring! Just as a woman updates her wardrobe with a few of-the-moment pieces when spring weather arrives, makeup and hair are now ripe for renewal as well. And luckily there are many ways to take advantage of the newest styles, without taking risk or making mistakes. Spring 2010 is the season for fresh, flattering, foolproof beauty trends that couldn't be more wearable. Learn how to incorporate the season’s trends with this excerpt from Skincare-News. com, “Spring Beauty Trends to Wear Right Now.”

1. Aqua eyeliner

This spring, women can give basic black a little time off and let aqua eyeliner take center stage. Experiment with shades of blue and turquoise to find a hue that flatters individual eye color and skin tone.

Women have several great options for wearing this bright eyeliner shade. They can apply a thin line to the upper lids or smudge the shades along the lower lash line or into the inner corners of eyes. It’s best to start subtle and build color.

2. Braided hair

Braids are no longer just the stuff of little girls and Halloween costumes. The braids worn on the runway this spring look as sophisticated with a formal gown as they do with a casual pair of shorts. And since most women mastered the art of the braid long ago, this trend is simple to adopt.

To update the youthful braids of the past, try braiding hair slightly to one side (the braid should fall over one shoulder), or fasten two smaller side braids into a headband that's chic enough for a cocktail party or wedding.

3. Peach lips

The soft orange undertone of peach lip color flatters skin shades from pale to deep tan, so it's likely to become an essential makeup item this season. Peach lip color is light enough to be mistake-proof, so go ahead and apply without looking!

The nearly neutral tone of peach lips also pairs well with strong eyes and brows, giving women the chance to create a bold look.
