Toledo, OH (Vocus) February 19, 2008 -–

SSOE’s own Donald L. Warner, PE, Vice President and Director of Quality and Training was named Engineer of the Year yesterday at a luncheon held at Gladieux Meadows. The Technical Society of Toledo and the Toledo Chapter of the Ohio Society of Professional Engineers worked together to select Don in recognition of his accomplishments and achievements made to the engineering profession and to the community.

“I have had the pleasure of working along side Don for 26 years. Over that time, we worked on many successful projects together close to home and around the globe. Don has demonstrated time and time again his dedication to our company, the community and the profession of engineering. He is one of the most well rounded engineers that I know and he is intimately engaged in every aspect of his profession. There is no better choice in my mind for the TST 2008 Engineer of the Year.” said Tony Damon, AIA, PS, CEO of SSOE, Inc.

Don has been actively involved in the development of young talent for SSOE, for the University of Toledo (UT), and for the community. He is also a member of the steering/planning committee that helped launch Toledo EPIC, the Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce young professionals’ initiative.

Over the past several years, Don has also become deeply engaged in economic development activities in the region. He is a board member of the UT Science & Technology Corridor, and actively participates in numerous other community related organizations. Don has recently taken on responsibilities involving economic development in which he works closely with the University and community leaders to attract biofuels and alternative energy companies to the Toledo area. He is also currently leading an effort to form an Architectural, Engineering and Construction (AEC) Association, to promote economic growth of the AEC industry in the region.

In 2007 Don was awarded the Engineer of the Year by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Toledo Section and he also received the University of Toledo’s Distinguished Alumni Award.

Warner graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1976 from the University of Toledo. He has been with SSOE since 1981 where he began as an electrical engineer. In 1992 he was named an associate and he became VP in 2001. During his tenure, he has also served as the Project Director/Manager for several noteworthy projects including Toyota’s Princeton, Indiana Plant Expansion and their new San Antonio, Texas Plant “I consider my greatest professional accomplishment to be simply doing what I can to help younger people develop, advance and realize their aspirations” said Warner.

Seeing the Dead: Talking with Spirits in Bookstores in November -- Recounts Alexandra Leclere's Journey from Mother of Four to Healer

Seeing the Dead: Talking with Spirits in Bookstores in November -- Recounts Alexandra Leclere's Journey from Mother of Four to Healer

How difficult is it to accept that you are clairvoyant? For Alexandra Leclere, it was a challenge she had never dreamed of. Her journey from mother of four and television and multimedia producer to healer is recounted in her new book.

New York, NY (PRWEB) October 20, 2005

Alexandra Leclere’s first book, Seeing the Dead, Talking with Spirits, recounts the author’s journey from accomplished television/multimedia producer and mother of four to that of a healer with extraordinary powers of clairaudience, clairsentience, and clairvoyance. Published by Inner Traditions/Bear & Company, it will be available in bookstores in November.

“Alexandra Leclere has taken a leap of faith,” says John Perkins, New York Times best-selling author (Confessions of an Economic Hit Man). “Her Seeing the Dead, Talking with Spirits…is a book about transformation. Writing it required great courage and a deep belief in our limitless possibilities. Through telling her personal story, Alexandra also inspires the rest of us to follow. She empowers us to take our own heroic journey.”

How difficult is it to accept that you are clairvoyant?

For Alexandra Leclere, it was a challenge she had never dreamed of. Her first contact with the spirit world began after she underwent a successful alternative healing that allowed her to avoid major invasive surgery. This experience inspired her to research various forms of spiritual healing with the intention of producing a television special.

At a gathering honoring a deceased woman -- filled with healers and shamans -- Leclere was shocked to discover that she was the only person in the room who could see the deceased woman’s spirit. This occurrence marked the beginning of her remarkable personal odyssey into the world of shamanic healing. Although Leclere’s healing and psychic gifts are extraordinary, her greatest gift is her ability to experience unconditional joy.

The book provides a roadmap that readers can use to rediscover their personal connections to the spirit world and awaken the gift of healing in themselves. It shows how we can rid ourselves of past traumas that hinder our spiritual development — including unresolved trauma from past lives — so we can live more healthy and sacred lives.

Prior to finding her gift of healing, Alexandra Leclere was president of an international television production and multimedia firm for 17 years.

Leclere is a frequent participant in workshops and panels. She has an international clientele and performs healing sessions at the Oaks Healing Center in New Rochelle, NY.

HelpForElders. com - Launch of redesigned directory used to find help for senior citizens who live at a distance from their loved ones contains resources for over 25,000 cities in the US

HelpForElders. com - Launch of redesigned directory used to find help for senior citizens who live at a distance from their loved ones contains resources for over 25,000 cities in the US

Many elderly people are healthy enough to stay out of a nursing home but may still require a variety of assistance in their lives. Often, their adult children and other family members live at a distance or lead a busy life themselves and cannot provide that assistance. The HelpForElders. com web site is designed to assist people in finding that help for their loved ones.

(PRWEB) May 4, 2003

In response to the growing need for help to find assistance for the aging US population, the newly redesigned HelpForElders. com web site (http://www. helpforelders. com (http://www. helpforelders. com)) has been launched. The site is geared toward people who have aging parents or loved ones who live at a distance that may be at a point in life where they need assistance. Users of the site simply select the state, and then the city, of where their elderly loved one lives. Any available resources currently in the database are then displayed.

Many people in their 30Â’s, 40Â’s, and 50Â’s have parents and other loved ones who are in the twilight of their life but still want to live independently. These people are often living at a distance from their parents and loved ones, but they realize that some help is needed. The needs for the elderly may be medical or may often simply be the need for some help around the house, transportation help, or help with cooking and shopping. Traveling to take care of them or moving them out of their home is not always realistic for the family member.

Businesses that cater to the elderly such as geriatric care managers, care takers, home care managers, elder law attorneys, and senior care consultants are encouraged to contact HelpForElders. com to get added to the directory. To receive a profile form they simply go the web site and click on the “Get Added To Our Directory” button. The database is updated on a continuous basis.

Diabetes For Dummies®, 3rd Edition, Reports on the Latest Developments in the Field

Diabetes For Dummies®, 3rd Edition, Reports on the Latest Developments in the Field

The bestselling guide is now filled with new, essential information for knowing whether you or your loved one suffers from this chronic but very treatable disease.

Hoboken, NJ (PRWEB) July 31, 2008

Ever since the first edition of "Diabetes For Dummies" was published in 1999, the book has been a major resource for those with diabetes and their loved ones, as well as drug company representatives and researchers trying to find a cure. Since the previous edition, more than 2 million additional people have been diagnosed with the disease. Unfortunately, a large number of them are children.

To update the book and provide the best medical care for his patients, author Alan L. Rubin, MD, has followed the latest developments closely. Among the many findings, readers will discover new explanations for the complications of eye disease, kidney disease, nerve disease and heart disease that develop when diabetes is not controlled.

"Diabetes For Dummies, 3rd Ed.," (http://www. dummies. com/WileyCDA/DummiesTitle/Diabetes-For-Dummies-3rd-Edition. productCd-0470270861.html) explains how the increasing number of overweight and sedentary children has led to a much higher prevalence of diabetes in young people than ever before. Since complications develop after ten or more years of uncontrolled diabetes, there may be a significant number of young people with blindness, kidney failure and even heart attacks in the next decade. "Diabetes For Dummies, 3rd Ed.," covers the three major, but reversible, problems that lead to damage to the body:
High blood sugar (glucose), through a variety of mechanisms that are explained in the book, may damage just about every organ in the body - especially the eyes, kidneys, nerves and heart.

Solution? Start with lifestyle change and, if necessary, add medications to bring the blood sugar down into a range that is as normal as possible.

High blood cholesterol damages the arteries and can lead to heart attacks, strokes and blockage in the arteries of the legs and feet. Solution? Start with lifestyle change and add medications if necessary to bring the total cholesterol and the bad cholesterol down, while bringing the good cholesterol up.

High blood pressure damages the arteries and adds to the damage in the kidneys and heart caused by high blood sugar and high cholesterol. Solution? Start with lifestyle change and add medications if necessary to lower the blood pressure to less than 120/80.

The book covers both new developments for managing weight and tried-and-true methods for weight loss. It includes an in-depth discussion of exercise (how much you must do and the most helpful types of exercises), new information on the positive effects of resistance training (weight lifting), and a comprehensive discussion of all available medications with particular emphasis on Dr. Rubin's own experience using them.

"Diabetes For Dummies, 3rd Ed.," provides information and tips on the latest products and devices that can help the person with diabetes control blood sugar. Not every new device will help lower blood sugar. Dr. Rubin has tried them all and offers not just his opinion, but also those of leading experts in the field. Unfortunately, in many instances, such experts have a conflict of interest; they receive funding from the device maker or are paid to lecture for them. Dr. Rubin has no such conflict of interest and can be trusted.

In typical For Dummies® (http://www. dummies. com/WileyCDA/) fashion, the book concludes with "The Part of Tens," including ten ways to prevent or reverse the effects of diabetes and ten diabetes myths debunked. Since diabetes in one person affects all members of a family, Dr. Rubin also provides ten ways to get others to help you. The appendix supplies a mini-cookbook made up of recipes from great restaurants and the best web sites for further details about diabetes. A handy "Cheat Sheet" in the front of the book lists the most critical information and where to find much more throughout the book.

About the Author:
Alan L. Rubin, M. D. is a physician with an active diabetes practice in San Francisco, California. After "Diabetes For Dummies," now available in 14 languages, Dr. Rubin published "Diabetes Cookbook For Dummies," "Thyroid For Dummies," "High Blood Pressure For Dummies," and the recent "Type 1 Diabetes For Dummies." With the exception of the last book, all are in second editions and have been bestsellers.

AVAC Swim School Celebrates 45 Years of Teaching Children to Swim

AVAC Swim School Celebrates 45 Years of Teaching Children to Swim

AVAC® Honors 45th Anniversary and National Safety Month with Water Safety Tips for a Fun and Safe Summer

San Jose, CA (PRWEB) June 5, 2009

AVAC Swim School, one of the largest learn-to-swim programs in the nation, today announced that June marks the celebration of its 45th anniversary teaching Bay Area families to swim. In recognition of this significant milestone and coupled with National Safety Month, AVAC offers the community water safety tips to ensure a fun, healthy and safe summer.

"June marks the 45th year that AVAC Swim School has been teaching generations of South Bay families to swim while encouraging water safety practices," said Joe Shank, Owner and CEO of the Almaden Valley Athletic Club® (AVAC). "As summer nears, water activities become more popular. Parents and caretakers need to be cautious and alert to help prevent accidental drowning and any related injuries."

Before children go near any body of water, AVAC Swim School reminds parents to:
Never leave a child unsupervised near water. Always maintain a constant watch over children by a pool, lake or other body of water. Stay within arms reach of young and non-swimming children. Teach children proper "pool etiquette" and safety so they know how to behave in and around the water. Make sure there are proper barriers and protection in place when the pool is not in use. Fences, locks, gates and alarms may save a child from danger. Learn and review rescue techniques, such as CPR. It's important to be able to take quick action, rather than waiting for help. Develop and keep a rescue plan in case of emergency. This may include a first-aid kit or other applicable rescue equipment. Keep emergency telephone numbers and a phone nearby. Teach children to swim and provide them with on-going swim lessons for continued improvement of swimming skills.

"Summer is the time when accidental drowning and water injuries occur most often," said Sue Davis, AVAC General Manager and Swim School Director. "At AVAC, we strongly recommend that children learn how to swim as one preventative measure against drowning and related injuries. It is equally important for parents to be alert and ready to act in case of an emergency. AVAC's free Community Day Open House will provide helpful safety tips to help everyone have a fun, healthy and safe summer."

AVAC will host its "Kick off Your Summer" Community Day Open House with demonstration classes, swim stroke assessments and child fingerprinting by the San Jose Police Department on Saturday, June 20, 2009 from 10:00 a. m. to 3:00 p. m. The event is open and free to the entire community.

For more information, please visit the AVAC Swim School website (http://www. avac. us/swimschool (http://www. avac. us/swimschool)) or call (408) 445-4910.

Oral Cancer Kills 3 Times as Many as Cervical Cancer, But Most People Are Totally Unaware

Oral Cancer Kills 3 Times as Many as Cervical Cancer, But Most People Are Totally Unaware

Vancouver dentist Dr. Edward Lowe is marking April's designation as Oral Health Month with his own campaign to fight oral cancer. Using Velscope, a highly sensitive oral mucosal examination tool developed in B. C. - Dr. Lowe has designated March 27 as 'Halt Oral Cancer Day' in downtown Vancouver. He and his team will conduct complimentary oral cancer screenings for any Vancouver resident in his downtown office located at 601-1200 Burrard St. Vancouver, B. C.

Vancouver, B. C. (PRWEB) March 4, 2009

Dr. Lowe notes that oral cancer is a preventable and screenable cancer, yet continues to be diagnosed in later stages with high mortality rates. Approximately 25% of the diagnoses are in patients who did not smoke tobacco. The 5-year survival rates are in the 50-60% range which is shocking. However, when detected early, survival rates exceed 90% over 5 years.

Dr. Lowe believes that Velscope, used appropriately in combination with the traditional head, neck, and oral tissue exam is the key to early detection. The B. C. Cancer Agency recommends annual oral cancer screening for all adults 40 years of age and older, regardless of tobacco usage. The College of Dental Surgeons of B. C. also recommends Velscope as an option to Dentists to assist in their examinations.

For that reason, Dr. Lowe is opening his doors to any Vancouver area resident. The usual $39 fee will be waived for this awareness day, however donations are encouraged and will be forwarded to the B. C. Cancer Agency. Appointments are necessary and can be reserved at 604-683-2483.

About Vancouver Centre for Cosmetic & Implant Dentistry:
Dr. Edward Lowe has been in private practice for 22 years in Vancouver and lectures internationally on cosmetic dentistry, dental photography, and eating disorders in dentistry. Tame Your Computer and Get it to do What You Want

Gordon Burnham has created a website that helps answer a lot of the questions and problems that people have with their computers, especially those new to computing. The website provides information about Cookies, Spam, Spyware, Fraud, Scams, Pc Security, Email, Training Courses and other things about which most people are eager to learn. Visitors can signup for a windows training course and a 'Quick Tips' course to learn more about using their computers. They can also check the Glossary to find out what those 'geek-speak' words and terms mean.

Ocala, FL (PRWEB) November 21, 2004 -

“I never imagined the number of times people ask the same questions over and over” said Gordon. “Now they have a wealth of free information available to help make computing more enjoyable, a place to go when they have a problem or need information on a particular subject.”

Visitors can signup for a free windows training course that sends lessons by email to those requesting. A “Quick Tips” course is also available by email.

Maintaining a healthy PC is important to one's sanity. Some of the subjects covered are Scandisk, Defragmentation, Firewalls, cookies, spam, spyware, fraud. There are links to download programs that will help manage these problems (some are free and others are low cost).

"A common question that I get" says Gordon, is "How can I stop losing files that I download from the Internet?" A free electronic book, "How to Download & Organize Files" is available for download. It shows how to download files from the Internet and how to organize them. It also shows how to never lose a file that is downloaded.

According to Gordon, there is even a little humor to help

Companies Turn to Click-to-Chat Technology to Reduce Operating Expense and Enhance Customer Service

Companies Turn to Click-to-Chat Technology to Reduce Operating Expense and Enhance Customer Service

Connextions Offers Best Practices and Lessons Learned from Other Industries' Chat Applications.

Orlando, FL (Vocus) October 30, 2008

Companies who have watched their competitors score online sales and drive customer satisfaction with Click-to-Chat, or "Chat," are increasingly considering this technology for their own organizations.

Chat technology enables companies to communicate online with customer service reps through real-time text messaging, rather than over the phone. Because Chat allows service reps to handle more than one contact simultaneously, and provides customers with a detailed record of online text "conversations," companies are able to reduce higher operating costs associated with voice service and improve the overall customer experience.

"Historically, Chat has played an important role for retail businesses in gaining competitive advantage with enhanced customer service," says Mike Trip, Senior Vice President and General Manager at Connextions. "Companies that do not provide Chat as an online tool risk losing valuable opportunities to acquire new customers and maintain their brand loyalty."

For some, Chat is uncharted waters. Although Chat is a mainstay customer service tool for many successful businesses, it's not a plug-and-play customer service solution. And there are some risks associated with Chat, according to Trip. "When improperly configured or inappropriately staffed, Chat technology can degrade the customer experience, erode brand confidence, and even drive a customer to a competitor," he claims.

Before considering whether Chat fits with an organization's strategic sales and customer service program, it's important to recognize some of the most common errors businesses make with this technology:

Hiring the wrong agents - Chat agents and voice agents have distinct personalities and skill sets, and they shouldn't be expected to perform each other's jobs. Proper recruitment, training and supervision are critical. "The best voice agents prefer social interaction and enjoy talking on the phone," notes Tracey Ayers, Senior Vice President, who manages Connextions' North Carolina customer service center. "When a voice agent completes a call, she'll turn to her colleagues and continue talking. Chat agents are exactly the opposite. They prefer written communication, are extremely focused, and don't like interruptions when working."

Leaving customers waiting too long for a response - Like a frustrated radio listener who switches to another station when there is "dead air," an online customer will often terminate a Chat session when too much time elapses between questions and answers. Well-designed Chat solutions are staffed with trained agents and employ automatic system interventions that shorten customer wait time and reduce abandonment of the Chat session. For example, an agent can "push" to the customer pre-programmed Chat snippets such as: "Your customer service agent is researching your question and will be right back with your answer. Thanks for your patience."

Making Chat icons difficult to locate - Strategic placement of the Click-to-Chat button on a company's website can turn shoppers into buyers, enable faster resolution of customer service issues, and strengthen brand loyalty. Chat entry points placed on logical pages, such as those containing billing or statement information, often lead to faster resolution of questions and more satisfied customers. Conversely, hunting for a Chat icon leads to a poor customer service outcome.

Overusing Chat solutions - Web pages containing links to frequently asked questions can prompt customers to locate information without using either a Chat or voice agent. Companies often overlook opportunities to place informational links in multiple locations on their website for customers to self-educate and self-serve, thereby diverting a Chat or inbound call. Or they miss opportunities in a Chat session to gently instruct customers on how to locate information or serve themselves in the future. Both of these tactics reduce operating costs.

According to Connextions' Tracey Ayers, the bottom line is that Chat technology is very different from a telephone-based interaction, and is not a one-size, fits-all solution. To be successful, Chat must be customized to fit a company's specific business plan and customer service goals. Productivity expectations for Chat agents compared to voice agents must also be realistic. "Chat can reduce phone costs by 30 to 50 percent and can optimize customer service operating costs," Ayers says, "but the best results are achieved only when appropriate metrics are in place, agents are properly trained, and Chat icon placement has been carefully considered before the Chat program is launched."

As more companies seek to enhance their online presence with interactive customer service tools, industry analysts expect the application of technologies such as Click-to-Chat to become a standard method for maintaining member satisfaction and brand loyalty.

American Dental Association Changes Stance, Adopts Natural Solutions Foundation Position: No Fluoride for Babies

American Dental Association Changes Stance, Adopts Natural Solutions Foundation Position: No Fluoride for Babies

The Natural Solutions Foundation's strongly anti-fluoride position for infants and children is now echoed by the American Dental Association (ADA) which says that children under 1 year should not be exposed to fluoride. Although the US supported fluoride in infant formula during the recent Codex meeting in Chiang Mai, Thailand which dealt with infant formula and other special purpose foods, using data provided by the Natural Solutions Foundation, South Africa pushed the restriction on fluoride in healthy infants' formula through, despite strong US objection. Long a proponent of fluoridation of children's teeth, the ADA joins the Natural Solutions Foundation in pointing out the dangers of the now-debunked toxin in infant's bodies. CCNFSDU will bring its new recommendation prohibiting the addition of fluoride in formula for normal infants to the Codex Alimentarius Commission for approval in July, 2007 although, thanks to US pressure, the toxic metal is still permitted by Codex in the formula of sick children.

Bangkok, Thailand (PRWEB) November 15, 2006

The conservative American Dental Association (ADA) altered its position on fluoride for babies to align with the strong opposition of fluoride for babies adopted by the Natural Solutions Foundation. The ADA now recommends that babies younger than one year should not be exposed to fluoride either in water or as an ingredient in fluoride since it causes dental fluorosis (discoloration and weakening of teeth), now classified by the National Research Council as a major health problem. The Natural Solutions Foundation presented formal comments urging the US to oppose the use of fluoride in infant formula prior to the meeting of the Codex Committee on Foods for Special Dietary Uses (CCNFSDU, October 30-November 3, 2006, Chiang Mai, Thailand). Although the US delegate, Dr. Barbara Schneeman, who works for the FDA, vigorously supported the Codex recommendation that babies be exposed to fluoride, South Africa, using the data supplied by the Natural Solutions Foundation in its official comments on the topic, successfully beat back this toxic threat to healthy bottle fed infants. Dr. Schneeman did manage, however, to keep potassium and calcium fluoride compounds in formula for sick babies.

Including this toxic metal in food received by any babies is, according to both the recent ADA position statement and the Natural Solutions Foundation's one as well, a grave mistake which poses significant danger to babies in both the long and short term. On November 9, an ADA email alert advised dentists that "fluoridated water should not be mixed into concentrated formula or foods intended for babies one year and younger" and that babies could receive a greater than optimal amount of fluoride from formula mixed with fluoridated water. ADA listed dangers to babies of dental fluorosis, a discoloration and weakening of teeth but did not specifically point to similar damage to bone which occurs at the same time and in the same dosage ranges. The Natural Solutions Foundation (http://www. HealthFreedomUSA. org (http://www. HealthFreedomUSA. org)) went further, documenting the serious dangers of fluoride consumption to which infants are even more susceptible than older children and adults. This documentation was presented to the United States before the CCNFSDU meeting without impact on the US position. Other countries, however, rallied around the dangers so clearly present in fluoride and pushed the change through CCNFSDU which resulted in the ban being brought forward on infant formula for healthy children. These dangers include immune suppression, bone cancer, leukemia, brain and other solid malignant tumors, calcification of the pineal gland, neurological damage, increased dental caries, reproductive and other hormonal problems, increase (synergistic) toxicity of other poisons such as aluminum and a host of other serious and life threatening diseases and conditions. In fact, because of the interactive increase in toxicity of aluminum in the presence of fluoride, the combination is associated with increased neurological damage, behavioral changes and toxic neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's Disease.

Water is often treated not only with fluoride but with aluminum salts as well to give it an extra shine and sparkle. Two thirds of all bottled water in the US has added fluoride while some is sold with specific FDA-approved recommendations to use for mixing infant formulas. Fluoridation of water is based on an outmoded belief that fluoridation of water or teeth led to decreased dental cavities (caries). Later research, however, and subsequent reexamination of the original data showed that the published study of the results of the fluoridation study which served as the justification for wide spread fluoridation was seriously flawed. EPA scientists, among others, have called for an end to fluoridation of water since its use is not justified by dental or other science. Despite that, the FDA recently permitted an increase in the permitted levels of fluoride in foods, from pesticide sprays and approved claims for fluoridated bottled water as a preventive measure for tooth decay.

Fluoride's use in water began under the Soviet dictator, Joseph Stalin. In the Gulags or prison camps, political prisoners who were given water with fluoride in it to drink were complacent and placid. The effect was noted and later reproduced by the Nazis in the drinking water provided to people in the death and slave labor camps. Many health freedom advocates question not only the use of a deadly poison with well documented health dangers across the population spectrum, but the use of a dangerous and behavioral numbing chemical in the nation's water supply.

Despite years of contrary propaganda, the ADA now admits that dental fluoride concentrations are not related to a decrease in dental caries, that the National Research Council cites serious problems with fluoride in its report on the topic and agrees with the Natural Solutions Foundation's suggested ban on fluoridation, at least for infants. The New York State Coalition Opposed to Fluoridation (http://www. orgsites. com/ny/nyscof (http://www. orgsites. com/ny/nyscof)) notes "The Environmental Protection Agency is required to consider the most vulnerable populations when setting allowable water fluoride levels. To protect babies, allowable water fluoride levels must be near zero.

The Environmental Working Group analyzed government data in March 2006 and found that babies are over-exposed to fluoride in most major U. S. cities" (http://ewg. org/issues/fluoride/20060322/index. php (http://ewg. org/issues/fluoride/20060322/index. php)).

The World Health Organization, too, recommends that bottle fed babies drink formula mixed in fluoride free water.

Although the Natural Solutions Foundation is sharply critical of most of Codex' decisions, its decision to follow South Africa's lead and ban fluoride at least in formula for healthy infants shows what strong pro-health leadership inside Codex can accomplish. Next tasks, according to Natural Solutions Foundation leaders, include getting all fluoride out of the world standard for infant formula and making sure that no one in the US is exposed to a known carcinogen and multisystem poison.

Salem Radiology Consultants, P. C. Selects Orion Health's Rhapsody Integration Engine for Automated Radiology Charting and High-Volume Digital Image Transfer

Salem Radiology Consultants has implemented a new solution to automatically populate physician's charts with digital imaging and patient information, reducing the process to 10 seconds from the previously manual process of creating and couriering a two-to-three page manual report. The ability to automate sharing of electronic radiology reports with participating hospitals and physicians provides an enormous time savings for the group, and helps speed clinical decision making for better patient outcomes and improved practice efficiency.

Santa Monica, Calif. (PRWEB) January 8, 2008

Orion Health (http://www. orionhealth. com)], a leading provider of clinical workflow and integration technology for the healthcare sector, announces that Salem Radiology Consultants (http://www. salemradiology. com) (SRC), P. C. of Salem, Oregon, has selected the Rhapsody Integration Engine™ to serve as a platform to exchange patient health data between their facility and physicians' offices throughout the region.

The Rhapsody Integration Engine (http://www. orionhealth. com/rhapsody) will allow SRC to automatically populate physician's charts with digital imaging and patient information, reducing the process to 10 seconds from the previously manual process of creating and couriering a two-to-three page manual report. The ability to automate sharing of electronic radiology reports with participating hospitals and physicians provides an enormous time savings for the group, and helps speed clinical decision making for better patient outcomes and improved practice efficiency.

"Implementing Orion Health's Rhapsody Integration Engine allows us to further improve report communications to our referring provides which translates into the highest quality of patient care to our patients and partners we serve in the community," says R. A. Neitzel, Administrative Director.

"The flexibility and reliability of the platform are outstanding, providing us with the tools to integrate all our third party applications, specifically, and most importantly our systems for electronic report transfer."

SRC is the region's largest provider of advanced women's imaging and chose Rhapsody in part due to its ability to securely transmit large volumes of patient data via disparate third-party applications to participating partners' electronic medical record products. The platform allows SRC to seamlessly interface its internal information systems with the variety of third party information system platforms in use by our referring provider customers.

The value of electronic exchange to diagnostic centers and to providers is clear, given the sizable transaction costs typically incurred when laboratory and radiology results are printed and mailed.

HealthLeaders Media 2010 Industry Survey Results

HealthLeaders Media 2010 Industry Survey Results

About one-third of physician leaders acknowledge that factors other than medical care represent a "major influence" in their decision-making regarding tests or procedures. In the HealthLeaders Media Industry Survey of physician leaders, 33% said fear of lawsuits was a "major influence" when ordering tests or procedures. Another 48% consider such defensive medicine concerns a "minor influence." Thirty percent say reimbursement and revenue considerations are a "major influence," with another 38% saying these fiscal considerations are a "minor influence." Pressure from patients themselves is considered a major influence by 28%, with 55% citing that as a minor influence.

Marblehead, MA (PRWEB) February 11, 2010

Cost reduction has moved into the Top 3 priorities of healthcare leaders, up several spots from last year's No. 6 ranking. The results of the HealthLeaders Media Industry Survey 2010 also reveal that priorities differ among the various segments of the industry, as show some changes compared to last year's survey.

Among other highlights of the survey, released today: Physician leaders acknowledge that non-medical factors such as revenue, fear of lawsuits, and even pressure from patients are a major influence in their decision-making when it comes to ordering tests and procedures. And quality leaders say the No. 1 reason for failure to achieve compliance with handwashing protocols designed to prevent the spread of infections is "lack of spine to self-police and report colleagues' violations."

The No. 1 priority among all respondents is quality/patient safety, which retains that ranking in 2010, but with a smaller share than the 2009 results. Last year, 69% of respondents put quality/patient safety in their Top 3 list of priorities; for 2010, that dropped to 40%, still enough to be No. 1, but with a smaller consensus. (See Question 5 in each of the survey reports.)

And within specific segments of the healthcare industry, those priorities vary. For example, CEOs in a rural setting see physician recruitment and retention as their top priority (44%), while their colleagues in non-rural areas say cost reduction is the top concern (46%). Finance leaders see those issues as their top concerns: physician recruitment/retention No.1 (38%), cost reduction next (36%), and patient experience/patient satisfaction third (34%). A majority of health plan leaders puts cost reduction at the top (57%). Physician leaders cite quality/patient safety as their top priority (38%), as did quality leaders, but with a much larger consensus (65%).

Physician leaders were asked to assess the pressures that influence their decisions when ordering tests and procedures. (See Question 26 in the Physician Leaders report.) One-third (33%) say fear of lawsuits is a "major influence," while another 48% say it is a "minor influence." Reimbursement and revenue considerations represent a major influence for 30% of respondents, and a minor influence for 38%. Pressures from patients is a major influence for 28%, and a minor influence for 55%.

Getting staff to comply with handwashing protocols continues to be a challenge for healthcare quality leaders. They cite as the No. 1 reason behind failure to achieve compliance: lack of spine to self-police and report colleagues' violations (40%); next highest at 29% is lack of leadership to make it a priority, followed by lack of adequate penalties (19%) and lack of convenient access of appropriate supplies (12%). (See Question 37 in the quality leaders survey.)

The HealthLeaders Media Industry Survey includes scores of questions that explore healthcare leaders plans and concerns related to strategic/business concerns, clinical/medical trends, political/reform issues (including an assessment of the president, congress, and their own lobbyists; see Question 7), staffing/morale factors, and personal satisfaction levels.

"The strength of this cross-sector survey stems from our access to leaders across healthcare," says Rick Johnson, editorial director of HealthLeaders Media (http://www. healthleadersmedia. com/). HealthLeaders Media is the recognized brand leader in the healthcare arena, providing information and guidance on industry trends and real-world solutions for senior executives. The Web site provides intuitive navigation across the 10 major areas of the industry that HealthLeaders Media covers. These topics include: leadership, finance, technology, physicians, community hospitals, health plans, marketing, quality, HR, and nursing.

Background: The HealthLeaders Media Industry Survey 2010 report is based on seven concurrent surveys sent to healthcare leaders in seven segments across the industry: CEO, finance, technol¬ogy, physician, health plan, marketing, and quality leaders. In addition, data has been extracted based on community and rural status. The surveys included some common questions for all respondents and some questions directed to leaders in specific segments; some benchmark questions from the 2009 edition are included. We have also created a special service lines report based on leaders' responses on that topic. A total of 1,210 print and electronic surveys were completed in October 2009. The sample size allows for a 3% margin of error. The results of the HealthLeaders Media Industry Survey 2010 are presented with analysis in the February issue of HealthLeaders magazine, and in greater detail in reports posted online at www. healthleadersmedia. com/industry_survey (http://www. healthleadersmedia. com/industry_survey).

"Whirlybirds 2003": A New TV Documentary

"Whirlybirds 2003": A New TV Documentary

A new television documentary examines how rotary wing flight has changed they way we work and live.

(PRWEB) October 25, 2002

"Whirlybirds 2003" - Documentary UPDATE

(Wilmington, DE -- December 26, 2002) -- "Whirlybirds 2003", the new television documentary dealing with rotary wing flight, is rolling along as location production continues on the East coast. The current mission: to make presentation to international broadcasters during the NATPE convention (New Orleans) in January.

The program is being developed for international television broadcast by documentary filmmakers Amy Steelman-Angeli and Lou Angeli, whose recent "Bound By Courage" chronicled the rescue and recovery effort at Ground Zero. As former firefighter/EMT's, the couple specializes in programming dealing with the emergency services, and includes the ride-along series, "Beyond The Yellow Tape".

See ICOM Magazine: http://www. icommag. com/november-2002/november-page-1.html (http://www. icommag. com/november-2002/november-page-1.html)

"Whirlybirds 2003" follows the progression of rotary wing aviation over the past 50 years, and highlights the various missions of helicopters through dramatic reenactments, sound bites with industry professionals and never before seen footage.

"This is the first program in a number of years, that is dedicated solely to helicopters and their vital missions," says producer Amy Steelman-Angeli. "...and we believe that the show (also) serves as a special tribute to the men and women who fly them." The program will be broadcast in 2003 as part of a special commemoration of the 100th anniversary of aviation.

"We've been working with hospital-based air med-evac providers to illustrate the features of air medevac programs," says co producer and videographer, Lou Angeli. "Our plan is to demonstrate how medical helicopters squeeze the timeline by allowing seriously ill or injured patients to make it to definitive health care..." before the golden hour expires.

Other scenarios, which are scheduled for the show, include news gathering, firefighting, air rescue, law enforcement, and sport recreation. "We also wish to thank the aviation community for helping us bring this important story to the screen," says Amy, whose work includes reality television and documentaries. The team's Fire-Rescue footage is seen on TV networks worldwide, and is featured in an upcoming episode of NBC's "The West Wing."

The producers are still searching for compelling leads, which will help tell the story of helicopters and their pilots. Feel free to contact the Amy or Lou with your ideas and suggestions by phoning (302) 753-9620. email: rescuetv@aol. com

9/11 Firefighter Receives Gift of Mobility from The Scooter Store

New York’s leader in power scooters and wheelchairs proud to assist Farmingdale-area volunteer.

Farmingdale, NY (PRWEB) June 14, 2006

As part of its Gift of Mobility program, The SCOOTER Store has presented a power wheelchair (http://www. thescooterstore. com) to John Iacono, a Farmingdale-area man recently faced with a mobility-related disability. The state’s leading provider of power wheelchairs and scooters, The SCOOTER Store worked with the local council of the Knights of Columbus to provide the assistance to Iacono.

Iacono, of Bohemia, is a former volunteer firefighter from the Rocky Point Fire Department on Long Island who volunteered and served during the 9/11 World Trade Center relief effort. He was presented the Gift of Mobility by The SCOOTER Store’s Levittown Store Manager Anthony Pepe and Mobility Manager Louie Colaiacovo. Executive Vice President of Operations Bill Sisoian and Regional Operations Director James McClellan were also on hand to make the presentation.

"Gifts such as scooters and power wheelchairs are truly a blessing for those with physical limitations, especially those who have served their fellow citizens and who now are in need of assistance themselves," said John Columbo, Grand Knight of the Levittown Knights of Columbus, a Catholic men's fraternal benefit society that renders mutual aid and assistance to the sick, disabled and needy. "This is a tremendous program allowing people in our community with limited resources the opportunity to overcome their physical limitations and realize the freedom that mobility can provide."

The SCOOTER Store has changed the lives of an estimated 11,000 individuals throughout the state since 2000.

Other charitable groups that have been the beneficiaries of The SCOOTER Store’s Gift of Mobility program include the American Red Cross, Hospice, Volunteers of America and the National Chronic Pain Society, as well as a host of churches, museums and foundations.

The SCOOTER Store created the Gift of Mobility program in December 2002 as a demonstration of the company's commitment to "Always Do the Right Thing!" Since its inception, the national outreach program has donated more than 400 power wheelchairs and scooters (http://www. thescooterstore. com), plus hundreds more manual wheelchairs, to community service organizations, enabling them to provide freedom, independence and dignity to those with limited mobility.

Doug and Susanna Harrison founded The SCOOTER Store 15 years ago because they wanted to reach out and help others. "This program is an excellent example of The SCOOTER Store philosophy and we are proud to be able to touch so many lives through these fine community organizations," said Doug Harrison, founder and Chief Executive Officer.

The SCOOTER Store’s locations in Levittown, New York City, Buffalo, Rochester and Schenectady are part of a nationwide network of distribution and service centers, retail stores and account managers that have provided more than 250,000 individuals with the freedom to continue living independently. The SCOOTER Store is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Health Care, Inc. (ACHC), a nationally recognized industry organization. Equipment Manufacturers Find Keys to Remote Service and Increased Revenue in New Blog

Equipment Manufacturers Find Keys to Remote Service and Increased Revenue in New Blog

Insight for manufacturers on how to achieve growth with Smart Service

Pittsburgh, PA (PRWEB) April 15, 2008

Market-leading equipment manufacturers have been seizing the opportunity of remote service that enables them to increase the scope and sophistication of the services they offer. A new blog, provided by SSI Partners, is helping manufacturers "catch the wave" and open doors to increased revenue with Smart Service.

SSI's new blog, called the Remote Service Insider, is significant because even with great promise, equipment manufacturers have been slow to implement value-added services based on remote technology. While manufacturers see the benefits, remote service is at odds with current business models. Changing the model within established equipment manufacturers can be a formidable challenge. The blog does more than extol the potential of remote service; it helps companies discover new opportunities and understand how to reduce the friction of bringing new offerings to market.

Remote service technology provides a revenue opportunity for equipment manufacturers because they can enhance the solutions portfolio they sell to customers. For example, using remote service, a manufacturer can provide comparison data on how a customer's piece of equipment is performing against benchmark measures--things like uptime, throughput, and energy consumption. The equipment owners can use the information to increase their own revenue and decrease operational costs. The promise of remote service is great for both the equipment manufacturer and the equipment owner.

"The technology is ready," says Jack Levin, Managing Director at SSI Partners, "but organizations will need to change business models to take advantage. The economic opportunities inherent in remote service are well worth the effort. Those who are first to market will lock in customers for life."
The Remote Service Insider blog, is a place where leaders of equipment manufacturers and services organizations can take business development ideas and apply them to their own situations. It also helps them take an introspective look at their own organizations and see where transformation really needs to occur.

"The Remote Service Insider blog is a valuable resource to me" Says Tony Scolieri, Director of Global Service Strategic Planning at MEDRAD, "It helps me see the challenges and opportunities of remote service from a different perspective. This blog is helping me begin to see practical ways to transform our organization for growth."

The new blog can be accessed at http://www. remoteserviceinsider. com (http://www. remoteserviceinsider. com) or from http://www. ssipartners. com (http://www. ssipartners. com).

The website was founded by Richard Brooks of Manchester, United Kingdom. Although Richard has a full time career, he created the website in his spare time, once he had got to grips with the basics of creating a dynamic website using a number of programming languages.

The principle concept of the website, is to provide a valuable internet resource which people can access to research problems, or to share problems with others. The site features a number of interactive features, such as a discussion forum, poll questions, chat room and searchable resource links database.

With this information hub now available through the internet, it is hoped that users will interact more effectively and that this will lead to improvements in quality of life for many people.

Scala Beats 2001 Expectations With $10.7m Operating Profit and $4.0m Net Profit

Scala Beats 2001 Expectations With $10.7m Operating Profit and $4.0m Net Profit

Best-ever Profit; Cash Balances Up 66%; Strong Increases in License Revenue and Maintenance Revenue

(PRWEB) February 20, 2002

18 February 2002: Solid business from global companies has led collaborative ERP vendor Scala Business Solutions to report its best-ever profits in 2001, with USD 10.7 million operating profit before interest, depreciation and amortization, and net profit of USD 4.0 million. Chief Executive Officer Mike Burdett said that Scala is the only mid-market vendor to provide a global collaborative ERP solution to the mid-size subsidiaries, divisions and suppliers of global companies, and its success is clearly demonstrated by the excellent profit figures and growth in license and maintenance revenue during the last financial year.

Operating profit in 2001, before interest, depreciation and amortisation, was USD 10.7 million compared to an operating loss in 2000 of USD 13.1 million. Net profit was USD 4.0 million, a dramatic improvement over the USD 36.6 million loss reported in 2000. Compared to 2000, license and maintenance revenue collectively grew by 14 percent to USD 51.9 million – the highest level ever. Total revenue for 2001 was USD 70.6 million.

Commenting on the companyÂ’s strong performance in

2001, Burdett said, “More global companies are looking to us to provide collaborative ERP systems for their mid-size subsidiaries and divisions in order to bring the essential standardisation to their business processes, not only for our advanced e-business connectivity solutions but also because we have the in-built legislative and language capabilities to support global operations, plus proven delivery capabilities throughout the world.” Burdett added that for standardisation to be effective, it should be implemented across the enterprise. This is precisely what Scala is achieving for the mid-size subsidiaries and divisions of its multinational customers. “Not only are these companies seeing the immediate benefits of dealing with one reliable supplier, but they are also praising our products’ low total cost of ownership,” he said. “One of our major customers recently stated publicly that it costs them two-thirds less to run Scala than SAP. It is customers like this who are converting to Scala across their international operations, evidenced by the USD 4.5 million order we signed in the last quarter of 2001, our biggest-ever such contract.”

Strong Performance in 2001

Total revenue in the fourth quarter 2001 was USD 20.5 million compared to USD 17.6 million in Q4 2000, an increase of 16 percent. License revenue was USD 8.5 million compared to USD 7.1 million in the same quarter 2000, an increase of 21 percent. Maintenance revenue increased by 31 percent to USD 7.0 million. Net profit for Q4 2001 was USD 2.0 million (loss of USD 4.9 million in Q4 2000).

For the full year 2001, Scala reported total revenue of USD 70.6 million (USD 71.2 million in 2000). Revenue from software licenses and maintenance for the full year 2001 amounted collectively to USD 51.9 million, an increase of 14 percent compared to the 2000 figure of USD 45.5 million. As the company continued to increase the amount of services provided via third-party channels, consultancy revenue fell to USD 17.5 million, 23 percent lower than in 2000, reflecting the change in focus which has delivered higher gross margins on the reduced consultancy revenue base.

Total costs of revenue and operating expenses in 2001 were USD 59.9 million, a decrease of 29 percent compared to USD 84.3 million in 2000, providing clear evidence of the companyÂ’s achievement in significantly reducing its cost base. The closing cash balance for 2001 was USD 13.7 million, an increase of 66 percent on the closing balance in 2000 of USD 8.2 million.

The net profit of USD 4.0 million in 2001 translates into earnings per share of USD 0.18 compared to a net loss per share in 2000 of USD 1.78.

“I want to thank again and pay tribute to Chris Houle,” Burdett said. “As CEO in 2000 and 2001, Chris had the courage to lead our company to a successful turnaround in 2000, resulting in the very pleasing profitability and revenue figures we have reported for 2001. The good shape in which he leaves the company is a tribute to the success of his leadership.” Burdett succeeded Houle as CEO on 1 January 2002.

2001 Business Highlights

Biggest-ever order from a single customer – USD 4.5 million. Scala signed a major new contract with one of its existing global customers for Scala ERP and iScala Internet software. The new order includes upgrades to the customer’s existing Scala installations and substantial new license business, which will be implemented over the next two years.

Siemens Alarmcom USD 1 million contract for collaborative ERP system. Just four months after choosing Scala to plan and implement an e-commerce project, Siemens subsidiary Alarmcom signed a further contract valued at USD 1 million for a collaborative commerce project, to automate its internal business processes from end-to-end by using iScala Data Exchange Server and iScala Managers.

Scala named by IDC as market leader in China for the second year running. In June 2001, International Data Corporation (IDC) named Scala as the number one ERP vendor in China. According to IDC, Scala was the vendor with the largest customer base in China at the end of 2000, totalling 315 installations – over 12 percent of all ERP installations in mainland China.

New partnerships in Japan, Latin America, Nordic region, Western, Eastern and Southern Europe, and Russia. Scala extended its network to a total of 110 partners worldwide. Partnership agreements include: Digital Design, a recognised leader in the Russian market for information systems development; Informatika, the largest systems integrator in Yugoslavia; and J-Seed Information Systems who will sell the integrated Scala product line – Scala ERP products and iScala Internet software – coupled with consulting and implementation services in Japan.

Acquisition of intellectual property rights. Scala bought the exclusive rights to ERP workflow and graphical user interface (GUI) development software from New Miracle AG, a Swiss software development company. The software will enable Scala to shorten time to market for enhanced and additional functionality in its iScala product line.

New products launched. Scala Connectivity Solution, Scala Smart Tags for Office XP, iScala Adapter for BizTalk Server, and iScala Web Reporter were all released in 2001.

Scala named ‘ERP Solution of The Year’ for 2001 by Microsoft. “This award recognises the value that Scala offers to its customers in over 100 countries," said Ian Rogoff, Vice President Worldwide Partner Group at Microsoft. The title was awarded to Scala following the company’s success in exceeding the high standards required to compete against worldwide competition.

On The Move in 2002

Despite the continuing difficult market conditions, Scala’s focused market strategy will continue to deliver similar rates of organic growth to those the company reported for 2001. “Our product development strategy will continue to deliver leading-edge technological developments that will further enhance our market and competitive position,” Burdett said. “In addition, we have begun the process of developing products and infrastructure to support the indirect channels that we anticipate will provide further license and maintenance growth in 2003 and beyond. We continue to be aware of the potential for industry consolidation and believe that Scala’s global position, advanced technology product platform, growing financial strength, and strong management team all combine to position us well for any such opportunities that will enhance shareholder value.”

Burdett added that Scala’s healthy liquidity, fundamental low cost level, and a growing customer base will enable the company to continue with its goal of sustaining profitability every quarter in 2002. “There is no question that Scala is on the move,” Burdett stated. “I am confident that in 2002 we will build on the achievements of 2001 and continue to deliver both existing and new collaborative ERP software and services that are right for the needs of global businesses today.”

'A Twisted Nod' is a Great Romance

'A Twisted Nod' is a Great Romance...

After a failed relationship, Amanda Jackson returns to the small town she’d fled in her youth—a town full of secrets and lies. Amanda is drawn to a former childhood acquaintance, Scott Flynn, who has secrets of his own. They become entangled in a web of violence and murder that threatens to destroy more than their love.

Powhatan, VA (PRWEB) February 21, 2006

Gail Ylitalo's novel, "A Twisted Nod," is available through Lulu Press, Inc. (see link below) and through popular booksellers Amazon, Barnes & Noble, etc.

Review >>>

“'A Twisted Nod' is a great romance with a lot of very difficult obstacles for each of the characters to negotiate. Amanda has to deal with her broken heart and painful memories from her youth. Scott has to deal with his guilt over letting go of his deceased wife, as well as his stepdaughter’s unhealthy expectations of him. This story has a nice smooth, gentle pace that is perfect for a lazy afternoon read. There’s also an interesting psycho twist with the stepdaughter.” Tami Brady, TCM Reviews

Opening Excerpt >>>

Amanda Jackson yawned, stretched, and was now fully awake. She glanced around the room, momentarily forgetting where she was. Events came flooding back and, for the first time since the shooting, she cried.

After awhile she calmed herself, hating her weakness. If only he knew how much she truly loved and needed him. She had to hang onto the belief that he would come running to her—that he also loved her. Wiping the tears away, she willed herself to be strong. This was not going to result in a simple, happy ending. People were dead because she hadn’t acted quickly enough. She was about to start crying again when a nurse briskly entered the room carrying a tray.

“Time for breakfast,” she said, lightly. “How are you feeling this morning?”

“Like I was hit by a Mack truck,” replied Amanda, humorlessly.

“Well, this hot coffee should help,” the cheery nurse answered, not in the least bit bothered by Amanda’s comment.

“Can I get up?”

“Yes. Moving around will help, but for a while you’re going to be very stiff. The fragments went through your shoulder—you’re one lucky girl. Perhaps I should…”

“No…no thanks,” Amanda interrupted. “I can manage. Besides,” she added, smiling slightly, “I know how overworked you people are.”

The nurse laughed. “I’ll set your tray by the window. Go easy and, if you have any difficulty, call us.”

Amanda nodded, waited until she’d gone, and pushed the bedside table away. Throwing back the bed covers, she slowly sat up and, before standing, waited for the sudden dizziness to pass. On weak legs, she stumbled to the bathroom. She held onto the sink for support and stared at the glassy brown eyes in the mirror (eyes she’d always considered too large); the pale, unblemished skin; and the full, sensitive mouth. Hair the color of wheat fell limply on her shoulders. “What happened to you?” she whispered, to the ghostly reflection. “Where did you go wrong?”

As she stood looking at this sorrowful image of herself, memories of their first meeting came flooding back…the day she’d found the love all women long for.

“But you ran from him because you didn’t have the guts to profess your love!” her reflection accused. “Amanda, her death is all your fault! You knew what she was capable of!”

“Stop it!” she cried, covering her eyes. She didn’t want to remember but had to face the truth. She had to remember—bring back the past. It was the only way she could deal with the girl’s death.

Amanda sank to the floor in despair. The tears that fell were for all the hurts and pains she’d suffered at their hands. Deep down inside she realized that they were the ones responsible for the girl’s death. They were the ones who’d pushed her out of their social circle. How vividly she recollected how it all began!
