Leading Insurance Agent Applauds Blue Cross of California's Move to Become Anthem Blue Cross

Leading Insurance Agent Applauds Blue Cross of California's Move to Become Anthem Blue Cross

Top insurance agent Larry Hurwitz of BenefitPackages. com provides insight into Blue Cross of California's recent decision to become part of the Anthem Blue Cross family of companies.

Woodland Hills, California (PRWEB) April 6, 2008

Blue Cross of California recently announced it will now do business Anthem Blue Cross. Veteran insurance agent and Blue Cross of California top producer Larry Hurwitz shares his perspective on the rebranding.

The merger of WellPoint and Anthem is starting to pay dividends, as the carrier can draw from a vast array of products and talent to offer the consumer better choices. For example, Blue Cross of California has been offering the new Smart Sense health plan (http://benefitpackages. com/smartsense. html) that has trumped most other plans. Packaged under another name, this plan has been a true winner in other Anthem Blue Cross states with a track record of success for both the consumer and the carrier. Anthem Blue Cross will be advertising it among 11 other health plans across the country.

Said, Larry Hurwitz, owner of Blue Cross Premier Agency BenefitPackages: "I believe we have a unique perspective of the new branding of Blue Cross of California since my agency, BenefitPackages, has been a top ten agency for more than 5 years and representing Blue Cross for more than twenty years. I have seen Blue Cross roll out new plans, and I've seen top executives come and go."

Whenever Blue Cross makes a large decision like this, added Hurwitz, there's always one important question: "What will these changes mean to the consumer?"

Does the bigger size have draw backs? It is easy to get lost in the bureaucratic maze anytime you are working with such a large company. Nearly 34 million people (1 in 9 Americans) are insured by Anthem Blue Cross.

"A lot of people don't realize that it doesn't cost any extra money to have an agency such as BenefitPackages. com (http://benefitpackages. com/) help them with plan selection, enrollment, and servicing needs. You're always a client to us, never a number," said Hurwitz.

A decided benefit to enrolling in an Anthem Blue Cross Plan is the stability of a carrier that has a 2008 outlook of $62 billion in operating revenue and $3.7 billion in operating cash flow. With the average cost of a 3-day stay in the hospital up to $40,000, you want a big stable carrier to be there years down the road. That makes any Anthem Blue Cross health plan (http://benefitpackages. com/bc/index. html) a smart investment in your health.

NorthShore University HealthSystem Launches Diabetes Outreach Program for Lake County's Medically Underserved

NorthShore University HealthSystem Launches Diabetes Outreach Program for Lake County's Medically Underserved

Diabetes is the 7th leading cause of death in Lake County

Evanston, IL (Vocus) March 12, 2009

NorthShore University HealthSystem (http://www. northshore. org/) (NorthShore) is pleased to announce a $1 million commitment to the Lake County Health Department and Community Health Center (LCHD/CHC) for Be Well-Lake County (http://www. northshore. org/), a program dedicated to addressing the steadily growing problem of diabetes in the county.

In Lake County, nearly 36,000 residents have been diagnosed with diabetes. It is estimated that over 11,000 more have undiagnosed diabetes.

"With a record number of people losing health insurance and delaying life-saving medical treatment, now more than ever diabetes patients need to have access to quality healthcare," said Mark R. Neaman, Chief Executive Officer, NorthShore University HealthSystem. "The goal of this program is to begin to build a coordinated network of healthcare for the underserved population in Lake County."

NorthShore's (http://www. northshore. org/) funding announcement is a culmination of lengthy discussions with the LCHD/CHC about the most effective way to pool and maximize resources in addressing one of the fastest growing health threats in Lake County. With the necessary infrastructure already in place both institutions decided that providing critical funds to treat diabetes and provide education and awareness would have the most impact on the health of the targeted population.

"The need for diabetes prevention and treatment is real," said Irene Pierce, MSN, the Health Department's Executive Director. "This program is especially exciting because it engages Lake County residents in their healthcare, while providing access to diabetes screening and education, and healthy lifestyle education for the entire family."

NorthShore's funds will help support a pilot program providing:
Diabetes management for more than 500 current patients at the LCHD Community Health Center in North Chicago. Increased staffing to include clinicians trained to implement a consistent standard of care to each patient. Assistance with medication and testing supplies. Subspecialty care access for ophthalmology, podiatry, endocrinology, nephrology and cardiology. On-site Hemoglobin A1C testing. A comprehensive approach to a healthy lifestyle for the entire family that will include paid membership to a fitness center for those who qualify; community health promoters to educate patients and ensure all of their appointment and education needs are met in a timely manner; and healthy food choice education.

NorthShore (http://www. northshore. org/) has also committed to hiring a project director, grant writer and physician researcher to ensure success and sustainability of the program.

"It is critical to measure process improvements both inside and outside the treatment setting, all of which contribute to improved access," said Madeleine Shalowitz, M. D., MBA, charged with investigating the process and measuring patient outcomes to effectively demonstrate the impact of the program.

The NorthShore Foundation (http://www. northshore. org/aboutus/charitablegiving/default. aspx? id=2186) has created a special committee and advisory group -- Founding Families -- to help partner in raising friends and funds for the program.

The Auxiliary of Highland Park Hospital (http://www. northshore. org/communityandevents/auxiliaries/hph/) is making a $1 million commitment to Be-Well Lake County to be distributed over the next 5 years.

Statement by Kofi Annan, United Nations Foundation Board Member, Calling on the WHO Executive Board to Set an Eradication Date for Measles

Statement by Kofi Annan, United Nations Foundation Board Member, Calling on the WHO Executive Board to Set an Eradication Date for Measles

There is no better time than now to eliminate measles once and for all. As a result of the hard work of country governments, WHO, UNICEF, NGOs and others, we have made tremendous progress in reducing measles mortality by nearly 80% worldwide. But we can’t stop here; measles still infects 30 million children each year and kills 450 people every day.

(Vocus/PRWEB) January 16, 2011

“There is no better time than now to eliminate measles once and for all. As a result of the hard work of country governments, WHO, UNICEF, NGOs and others, we have made tremendous progress in reducing measles mortality by nearly 80% worldwide. But we can’t stop here; measles still infects 30 million children each year and kills 450 people every day.

“When the Executive Board of the WHO convenes in Geneva tomorrow, I encourage them to recognize the importance of and fully support setting a measles eradication date. This comes on the heels of key recommendations from two groups who have stated that measles eradication is possible – the first was WHO’s own Global Technical Consultation Group in July 2010 who proposed a target date of 2020 and the second was WHO’s Strategic Advisory Group of Experts (SAGE) on Immunization in November 2010. SAGE concluded that measles can and should be eradicated with a target date to be set by the World Health Assembly.

“For more than a decade, the UN Foundation has worked hand-in-hand with the WHO, UNICEF, other UN leaders, the American Red Cross, Centers for Disease Control, and developing countries’ Ministries of Health to develop and expand major initiatives to help children survive and thrive. In support of innovative health partnerships, the UN Foundation has mobilized hundreds of millions of dollars and thousands of people, brought new private sector partners into the field, helped strengthen the capacity of UN health agencies, and provided program expertise to help save children’s lives.

“As a parent, I know we all want to protect our children so no mother or father loses a child from measles. It’s vital that the international community recognize the importance and take the necessary steps of eradicating this easily preventable disease so parents everywhere can protect their children and offer them a healthy future. Together, let’s make measles history.”

About the United Nations Foundation
The United Nations Foundation, a public charity was created in 1998 with entrepreneur and philanthropist Ted Turner’s historic $1 billion gift to support UN causes and activities. We build and implement public/private partnerships to address the world’s most pressing problems, and work to broaden support for the UN through advocacy and public outreach. Through our campaigns and partnerships, we connect people, ideas, and resources to help the UN solve global problems. The campaigns we conduct reduce child mortality, empower women and girls, create a new energy future, secure peace and human rights, and promote technology innovation to improve health outcomes. These solutions are helping the UN advance the eight global targets known as the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). For more information, visit http://www. unfoundation. org.

Health and Wellness Programs in a Tight Economy

Health and Wellness Programs in a Tight Economy

Why They are Critical and How to Make Them Effective

St. Louis, MO (PRWEB) February 24, 2009

The deepening economic crisis is placing the United State's ailing - or some would say failing - health care system at further risk. With many Americans losing jobs, the number of uninsured and underinsured is rising. Also, faced with tighter budgets and escalating health care costs, even those with insurance are not compliant in taking critical medications, like cholesterol-lowering statins or anti-hypertensives. The results could be catastrophic situations, such as strokes or heart - attacks, which will increase a rapidly escalating health care cost base.

"Fixing the ailing health care system will be a long and complex process," said Mindy McGrath, vice president of strategy for Maritz' health care sector. "However, in tough economic times, it's important to focus on tactics that have a positive impact on our nation's health, such as wellness programs, medication adherence and coordinated care to reduce redundancies."

As a strategic partner in helping companies optimize their wellness programs, Maritz has released a whitepaper for health insurance companies to increase the effectiveness of wellness strategies by improving participation and engagement among their members. From improving health risk assessment participation to engaging members in comprehensive, next-generation health and productivity incentive programs, Maritz' approach goes beyond gift cards or rewards points. The strategy leverages Maritz' 75 years of experience engaging and motivating people to jump-start and sustain long-term behavior commitment that leads to healthier members, which in turn enables effective management of health care costs.

Maritz' whitepaper, "Health and Wellness Incentives: Motivating and Sustaining Wellness Program Participation to Improve Health Outcomes" outlines how health insurers can use the right combination of incentives, rewards, communications, interactions and reinforcement to improve the success of their wellness programs. This approach, paired with our whole-brained philosophy to encourage participants to change their behavior, helps drive a successful engagement strategy and improves health outcomes. New Dog Nutrition Information site

New Dog Nutrition Information site

New site focuses on the latest dog nutrition information (dog food and dog supplements) from renowned holistic veternarian Dr. Jane Bicks.

(PRWEB) July 19, 2004

http://www. dog-food-nutrition. info/ (http://www. dog-food-nutrition. info/) is a new site which focuses on the nutritional needs of dogs. There is a n extensive article archive which will help you decide which dog food or dog supplements are best for your pet.

The first problem that new pet owners face is generally the issue of food. What should we buy and what should we stay away from? Introducing a young dog to the world of food should be a very delicate process. Owners should carefully monitor how much food is given to the new pet versus how much they are eating. We should be stringent about how quickly we increase the amount of food because we always run the risk of overfeeding.

Renowned holistic veternarian Dr. Jane Bicks claims that the maximum life span of dogs is estimated to be between 25 to 30 years, And yet the average dog usually lives no longer than 13 to 14 years.

She says that this difference is caused mostly from substandard nourishment.

Dr. jane has been honored on many occasions by the veternary profession and is the author of several books including 'Thirty days to a healthier, happier dog' and 'Dr. Jane's Natural guide to a healthier, happier dog'. She has been involved in many advisory boards including Canine Companions for independence and has served as the President of the Veterinary Medical association of New York City.

Sunset Bay Academy Students to Compete in First-Ever Chess Tournament

Sunset Bay Academy Students to Compete in First-Ever Chess Tournament

Skills learned from popular game are integrated into everyday life for teens

Rosarito, Mexico (PRWEB) September 17, 2009

Just 20 miles from the California border, students at Sunset Bay Academy, a group home for troubled teens (http://www. sunsetbayacademy. com), are preparing for their first-ever chess tournament that will take place on campus with non-students as well. While many teenagers stereotypically see the game of chess as "boring" SBA students have found that the game is not only exciting, but it offers them tools that they can use in their daily life as well.

When chess classes were first offered at Sunset Bay Academy, it was evident that the students were quickly taking a keen interest in the game as they were being taught by Chess Master Obed SƔnchez Reyes. The game of chess proves to be a healthy game for these teens because it helps develop many skills and mental abilities that are essential for success not only in the game, but also throughout life. Some of these skills include problem-solving, creativity, critical thinking, and more.

Staff members as well as students are looking forward to the tournament, which will bring students and non-students together, many of which may have otherwise felt "left out" or "unimportant" during other social activities. Giving students an opportunity to develop character, strengthen inner confidence, and a chance to find themselves is much of what the tournament and the game is about for the students at Sunset Bay Academy. The program director of the Academy states, "I have already seen chess help the teens develop character, which has assisted them in their daily life and activities here at SBA. I feel that chess is a self-motivating sport that allows the teens to develop a higher self-esteem and self-worth".

Chess Master Obed SƔnchez Reyes explains, "Bobby Fisher says 'Life is a form of Chess'; I really do think that Chess represents life, its organization and alternative solutions. The young men and women at Sunset Bay Academy have demonstrated that they are playing at this moment an important game in their life, chess has taught them that there are defeats and triumphs, to be tolerant, creative and above all to always give it their best".

Similar to the game of chess, Sunset Bay Academy offers many opportunities for students to grow and excel, providing the tools and skills that are needed to be successful throughout their entire lives. The primary focus of SBA is to offer new and exciting things to the students in order for them to live a happy, meaningful, and successful life.

Patent Granted on GenerOs EX, A Medical Device That Helps Bones Grow

Patent Granted on GenerOs EX, A Medical Device That Helps Bones Grow

The GenerOs EX can help lengthen long bones in the arms and legs in order to correct limb deformities, repair traumatic injuries and increase height. Because the device is completely internal, patients can remain mobile while growing new bone, resulting in fewer complications and smoother recovery.

Littleton, CO (PRWEB) December 17, 2009

Dr. Randolph C. Robinson (http://www. parkmeadowscosmeticsurgery. com/coloradoPlasticSurgery/randolph_robinson_md. htm), a leading cosmetic and reconstructive surgeon at Park Meadows Cosmetic Surgery (http://www. parkmeadowscosmeticsurgery. com/index. htm) in Lone Tree, Colorado, has been granted a U. S. patent for the GenerOs EX, an internal distraction osteogenesis device designed to help lengthen long bones in the arms and legs. The GenerOs EX is FDA-approved and can be used to help correct a wide range of limb deformities, as well as to provide cosmetic height enhancement.

Distraction osteogenesis (http://www. parkmeadowscosmeticsurgery. com/coloradoPlasticSurgery/colorado_bone_grafting_denver. htm) is a surgical procedure that works with the body’s own natural healing process to promote healthy bone growth. During the procedure, the affected bone is surgically cut into two segments, and the GenerOs EX device is affixed to the bone. The bone segments are gradually moved apart during the distraction phase, allowing new bone to form in the gap as the body heals. On average, the bone will grow at a rate of one millimeter per day, or about an inch per month. After the desired length is achieved, the bone will consolidate and strengthen.

According to Dr. Robinson, “Growing bones may sound like magic, but surgeons have been using the principles of osteogenesis since the early 1900s. Until recently, however, the process required the use of awkward external frames and screws to fixate the limb while the bone grew, subjecting patients to a high risk of infection, significant scarring, pain, and the need to remain off their feet for months at a time. The GenerOs EX is a real advancement in distraction osteogenesis. Because the GenerOs EX uses a completely internal fixation system to support the growing bone, patients can continue walking while healing, with less risk for infection or other complications. That means a smoother, more comfortable recovery for patients.”

The GenerOs EX can be used to help correct congenital limb deformities, repair bone deficiencies caused by injury, and even lengthen bones in order to increase a patient’s height for cosmetic reasons. “Differences in leg length are fairly common, with one in every thousand people suffering from congenital deficiencies that are too significant to correct by wearing internal shoe lifts,” Dr. Robinson says. “Limb length inequalities can also develop as a result of injury, bone disease, or infection. Whatever the cause, these imbalances can affect gait and lead to future problems with back, hip and joint pain.”

In addition to inventing the GenerOs EX limb lengthener for long bones, Dr. Robinson also holds patents on two other internal osteogenesis distraction devices. The GenerOs SB small bone generator promotes bone growth in the small bones of the hands, wrists, feet, ankles and pediatric forearms, while the GenerOs CF craniofacial bone generator can help repair deficiencies and deformities in the skull, face and jaws. All three devices are manufactured by OrthoNetx, Inc., which is located in Torrance, CA.

Christmas Diamond Buyers Should Give Something Back To Africa, Say Small Diamond Retailers

Christmas Diamond Buyers Should Give Something Back To Africa, Say Small Diamond Retailers

Small diamond retailers are sending out an unexpected Christmas message to shoppers: the diamond industry continues to cause great human suffering - and it's up to retailers and consumers to make the reforms that the industry giants still steadfastly refuse to do.

Austin, Texas (PRWEB) December 24, 2006

Small diamond retailers are sending out an unexpected Christmas message to shoppers: the diamond industry continues to cause great human suffering - and it's up to retailers and consumers to make the reforms that the industry giants still steadfastly refuse to do.

The Kimberly Process, for example, much-touted by the World Diamond Council and De Beers as a way of ensuring that African Diamonds are 'tracked from source to retail', is described by diamond retailer Jay Seiler of Security Diamonds Ltd, a Minnesota Retailer in conflict-free Canadian diamonds, as 'just so much mumbo jumbo'.

"A number of mid-level diamond retailers have contacted us recently expressing exasperation with the upper echelons of the industry", reports Rupert Isaacson, founder and director of the Diamonds for Africa Fund (DFA). "They feel that there is no heartfelt desire to end the very real sufferings still associated with the diamond trade in Africa, such as near slave conditions for diamond diggers in Sierra Leone and Congo and the torture of San Bushmen in Botswana."

In an unprecedented move, American diamond retailers are calling for the formation of an Ethical Diamond Coalition of mid-level retailers - an attempt, says Jay Seiler - 'to give something back' to Africa, and 'try to do what the industry giants seem unwilling to do."

'We are in dialogue with several other retailers also concerned by the continued scale of the suffering," says Eric Grossberg of Brilliant Earth, which - like Security Diamonds, sources its diamonds from Canada, yet still donates a portion of its profits to help end diamond-related suffering in Africa. "We are calling on all diamond retailers to come together and create the Ethical Diamond Coalition - something the industry has need for a long, long time."

"It's sad," adds Beth Gerstein, also of Brilliant Earth, "that the obvious on-the-ground needs such as healthcare, fair wages, schools and reparations for people displaced by the diamond trade are not being provided by the giants of the diamond industry, who can so easily afford it. It's going to be up to the smaller companies and consumers to try and put things right."

Isaacson, of DFA, concurs. If you buy a Christmas diamond then please: "Give something back. Send a portion of the value of your stones help people in Sierra Leone, Congo and Botswana. If you already own diamonds, donate a stone, or the value of a stone, to help people suffering in Africa. If you trade in diamonds, join the Ethical Diamond Coalition and give a percentage of your profits to help people on the ground."

For more information contact Rupert Isaacson at 512 294 1561

Diamonds for Africa Fund (DFA) works with on the ground NGOs in Sierra Leone, Congo and Botswana to assist communities damaged by the diamond trade. QuickArrow Achieves PSA Industry’s Only Unqualified SAS 70 Type II Certification for Second Consecutive Time

QuickArrow Achieves PSA Industry’s Only Unqualified SAS 70 Type II Certification for Second Consecutive Time

More than 40 Public Companies Rely on QuickArrow to Assist in Achieving Compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley and Maintain Internal Control Processes

Austin, Texas (PRWEB) April 3, 2006 —

QuickArrow, Inc., a leading provider of on-demand professional services automation solutions for billable services organizations, has received its second consecutive unqualified SAS 70 Type II report. The SAS 70 examination, conducted by Ernst & Young LLP, included QuickArrow’s software applications, internal control processes, and site operations. QuickArrow is the only professional services automation provider to obtain a SAS 70 Type II report.

SAS 70 (Statement on Auditing Standards No. 70) is an internationally recognized auditing standard developed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and is identified in Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act to assist public companies reliant on service organizations for functions related to financial reporting. A SAS 70 report reports on a service organization’s control activities ─ including controls over IT and related processes.

An “unqualified” auditor’s opinion for a SAS 70 Type II report indicates that all control objectives specified by the service organization were achieved without a significant exception or deficiency.

“Because QuickArrow is the only professional services automation provider to obtain a SAS 70 Type II report, we have a competitive edge in the industry,” said Elizabeth Davis, QuickArrow’s CEO. “This certification illustrates our continued commitment to our publicly traded clients as they navigate the complexities of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and the challenges of regulatory compliance and drives us to continue to adopt and maintain auditable, documented processes.”

The SAS 70 Type II report ─ obtained by QuickArrow ─ includes a description of the service organization’s controls and safeguards when hosting or processing customer financial data and includes a description of the audit tests performed by the independent auditor, generally for a minimum period of coverage of six months. A SAS 70 Type I report, in contrast, only lists the service organization's description of controls as of a point in time and the auditor’s assessment is limited to whether the controls were placed in operation and are suitably designed. Controls on operating effectiveness of controls are not drawn.

“With auditors scrutinizing our financials on a quarterly basis, QuickArrow’s SAS 70 Type II certification removes a major part of the burden from our shoulders and provides a level of audit assurance,” said Don Haderle, Sr. Business Operations Manager, Client Services Worldwide, at Callidus Software. “As we go down the path of being Sarbanes-Oxley compliant, working with applications that have been subject to a SAS 70 process will be more requisite. By QuickArrow obtaining a SAS 70, a valuable supplemental benefit is available to present to our auditors.”

About QuickArrow

QuickArrow is a leading provider of automation and management software for Billable Services Organizations including IT services, software, hardware, environmental consulting entities, management consulting, health care consulting and business services organizations. Since 1998, QuickArrow has pioneered delivering professional services management applications over the web. Keep Those New Years Resolutions

Keep Those New Years Resolutions

Yoga classes help folks keep those New Years resolutions they made on January 1.

Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) February 8, 2006

The start of 2006 may only be a month past, but there are some people out there who have already chucked their New Years Resolutions. Surprise. Surprise.

One of the most frequently listed resolutions, according to just about every poll out there, is to improve ones health and fitness regime. Sure, that sounds good in December as the egg nog flows and the cocktail meatballs tempt your taste buds, but now that it’s time to put the plan into action it’s much easier to watch the exercise trainers on TV, from the comfort of your oh so cozy couch.

Get up and embrace the rest of your life! There are ways to improve your health, and gain some clarity about the rest of your life at the same time. Yoga is skyrocketing in popularity amongst mainstream America, due in part to holistic approach to healing. Dahn Yoga (sometimes referred to as Dahn Hak or Dahnhak) began as an ancient Korean training program to educate the population on how to develop both the mind and the body. Today Dahn centers are opening all around the United States in response to high demand for alternative healing programs.

Karen Krueger of Libertyville, Illinois has experienced dramatic results. “In 2004 I was unhappy, physically weak, and obese. I had been putting barriers around myself for years to keep the world at a distance. The added weight had weakened my body and was eating away at my emotional wellbeing. The increase in my size caused my balance to change. This caused some injuries to my knee and shoulder. I was harming myself. I knew I needed to change. Dahn Yoga has given me the tools to change myself and it’s up to me to make these changes,” she said.

“During the past year and a half, I have gained a strong, fit body, shed over 80 pounds, have lots of energy, gained confidence, concentrate better, and have become emotionally strong. One of the best bonuses is that I have found myself. Buried deep within me is this person who I always was. I’m so happy and grateful that I have discovered her! I’m having so much fun!” she noted.

Dahn Yoga is designed to give the individuals the opportunity to realize their own personal power. Through experiencing Ki-energy, they discover how it works in their bodies and how they can utilize it for optimum health. Practitioners learn to communicate with their bodies, discovering they can control and regulate their bodily functions. By stimulating the Ki-energy circulation, the body’s natural healing power is activated. The Dahn theory holds that when a person arrives at their goal of a healthy life, they are more inclined to create better relationships with their family, friends and nature.

AuPairCare High-Quality Child Care Creates Smarter Kids

AuPairCare High-Quality Child Care Creates Smarter Kids

Studies show that high-quality child care, such as the live-in child care offered by AuPairCare, contributes to higher achievement scores in adolescents.

San Francisco, CA (Vocus) July 15, 2010

As children go back to school this fall, one of the most important tools for success is not a good breakfast or new school supplies – but high-quality child care, such as the live-in child care offered by AuPairCare international au pairs. As reported by a national research study published in Child Development magazine, good child care not only affects children during the preschool years, but could create a significant difference in academic development and performance during adolescence as well.

According to Child Development, children are better prepared for school when they are placed in high-quality child care – defined as routine child care provided by warm caregivers that are both sensitive to children's needs and offer cognitive stimulation of the children in their care. When tested during their adolescent years, children who had been in higher-quality child care scored higher on cognitive and academic achievement tests than peers who had been in lower-quality care.

AuPairCare is a high-quality child care option that provides families with carefully screened au pairs that have experience and interest in caring for children, while also offering second language learning and cultural awareness. AuPairCare recruits its au pairs from more than 40 countries around the world, affording a wide array of international au pairs that can immerse children in a new language and culture through long-term exposure and reinforcement.

“We did our research and AuPairCare was the best option – not only was it the most affordable, flexible solution, but also provided added benefits such as a low child to caregiver ratio, consistent care from the same person and the convenience of home child care,” according to Alison and Jack Stiefel, host parents with AuPairCare.

Research also shows that introducing children to a second language as early as possible fosters healthy brain development, encourages positive social skills, and lays a solid foundation for effective communication skills that last a lifetime. Not only does teaching a second language to children help enhance their cognitive development, resulting in better grades and higher test scores later in life - but children who have studied foreign languages also tend to score higher on standardized tests, including both verbal and math portions of the SAT.

“AuPairCare’s host parents tend to be smart, motivated parents who want only the best child care and education for their children,” said Heidi Woehl, vice president of AuPairCare. “These parents love the au pair program because their children receive safe, high-quality care and are exposed to new languages and cultures that stimulate their learning and exposure to the world.”

OCS HomeCare Provides OASIS-C Outcomes and Process Measures During the CMS Blackout

OCS HomeCare Provides OASIS-C Outcomes and Process Measures During the CMS Blackout

Medicare OASIS-C coding transition requires a “blackout” of CASPER OBQI and Home Health Compare reporting for at least one year. OCS HomeCare provides home health agencies with OASIS outcomes and process measures benchmarking to aid performance improvement before CMS publishes the data.

Seattle, WA (Vocus) June 17, 2010

OCS HomeCare, the national leader in performance improvement benchmarking, reporting, and analytics for home health and hospice organizations, has announced the availability of OASIS-C outcomes and process measures benchmarking. OCS has released data to home health agency clients to compare national, regional, and state benchmark norms for 2010 OASIS-C outcomes and process of care measures during the Medicare “blackout” period.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) blackout period of outcomes reporting for CASPER OBQI Reports and Home Health Compare, as triggered by the OASIS-C transition, started in May 2010 and will continue until Q3 2011. In addition, CMS will introduce new process measures in Q4 2010 to objectively evaluate agency performance in implementing best practices. The OCS Blackout Solution for home health care agencies fills the gap for outcomes reporting and provides new process measures while CMS is not providing any analytics or benchmarks during the reporting blackout.

“The OASIS-C transition affects so many entities on so many levels, including providers, vendors, consultants, national and state associations, external stakeholders, and board members,” says Amanda Twiss, president and CEO of OCS HomeCare. “These gaps in evaluating and benchmarking agency and industry performance are crucial to use as evidence of the benefits of home care and to advocate value for the industry.”

CMS is implementing the addition of new OASIS-C process measures (Process-Based Quality Improvement) to Home Health Compare reporting and agency-level reports available via the CASPER reporting system later this year. New elements in OASIS-C track the implementation of certain best practices at the patient level. The rate of implementation for individual home health agencies will be reported and compared against national and state standards. This information will be useful to home health agencies to refine clinical and care protocols in order to achieve the best balance between resource utilization and optimal patient outcomes. Plus, it will likely be used by CMS as part of a future pay-for-performance or value-based purchasing program.

CMS will not update CASPER and Home Health Compare with outcomes measures similar to those that have been reported previously until they begin publishing the new OASIS-C measures on Home Health Compare in July 2011, with a preview on CASPER in May 2011. The changes to the outcomes calculations are not obvious and may have widespread impact on home health organizations. Outcomes data are often tied to staff bonuses, marketing and referral efforts, and the measurement of quality improvement programs.

In addition to the reporting blackout and the changes to the historical measures, agencies should know that CMS will be introducing a completely new risk adjustment methodology to the OASIS-C measures in 2011. More importantly, trending results between OASIS-B and OASIS-C data will not provide homecare agencies with an accurate picture of changes in performance. Agencies may be misled by 2010 results that are risk adjusted using a modified 2009 methodology. OCS will apply the new CMS risk adjustment methodology when it becomes available in 2011. However, OCS can serve as a reliable source to help agencies look at OASIS-C results now in order to make improvements before public reporting begins next year.

“OCS is providing home health agencies with OASIS-C outcomes data, along with the most accurate and meaningful benchmarks during the CMS blackout of public reporting. Plus, home health providers get all of these measures months before they are available from CMS, which gives agencies early insights and an opportunity to improve before the data is publicly reported,” says Christine Lang, vice president of HomeCare.

For agencies that rely on CMS sources for outcomes and process measures benchmarking, the OCS Blackout Solution provides a valuable, low-cost option for staying informed. It includes 15 months of reporting, spanning from January 2010 through March 2011. OCS HomeCare will host a complimentary webinar, Light Up the OASIS-C Blackout, on Wednesday, June 30 at 1:00 p. m. ET, 10:00 a. m. PT. For more information about the Blackout Solution, write to info(at)ocsys(dot)com.

Faulty Study Targets Vitamins C and E

Faulty Study Targets Vitamins C and E

Finding of No Cardiovascular Protection Was Predictable

Arlington, VA (PRWEB) November 18, 2008

Today, the American Association for Health Freedom (AAHF) and its international affiliate, the Alliance for Natural Health (ANH), have together sharply criticized defective and misleading research published earlier this month in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). The research triggered headlines around the world suggesting that neither vitamin E nor vitamin C supplements protect against cardiovascular disease in older men.

The study by Howard Sesso and colleagues from Harvard, entitled the "Physicians' Health Study II", included over 14,600 male physicians over a ten year period, used the least potent form of vitamin E and incorrect dosages of both vitamins C and E, according to an analysis conducted by ANH experts, Dr Steve Hickey, Dr. Damien Downing, and Dr. Robert Verkerk.

The ANH analysis, "Designed to Fail: A Trial Without Meaning", criticized the Sesso et al. study for using synthetic dl-alpha-tocopherol, which is less effective than the natural and more complete forms of vitamin E and is thus more likely to not reveal any benefit. Additionally, the vitamin E dose in the study (400 IU every other day) is far below the dose taken by many who supplement making the findings irrelevant to older supplement consumers who are aware of extensive research and clinical evidence on higher dose vitamin therapy.

The JAMA paper included a 500 mg daily dosage of vitamin C, which is only half of a typical one-gram tablet of the type popular with supplement users. Evidence suggests that dynamic flow levels of vitamin C, which may prevent heart disease, begin at daily intakes above about 3g per day, best delivered in divided doses.

Additional complaints about the JAMA study include the use of an unidentified placebo, which may have included beneficial nutrients such as magnesium, failure to control diet for synergistic nutrient interactions that may have skewed test results, and the relevance, or otherwise, of applying these findings among physicians (the study group) to all men across the population.

"Considering that the methodologies were significantly biased against finding a positive result from vitamins C and E as determined from both available research and clinical evidence, one has to ask who stands to benefit from these findings? How, for example, would the pharmaceutical industry be impacted from diminished sales of their vitamins if people, under the belief that vitamins provided no benefit in the treatment and prevention of cardiovascular disease, instead chose pricey prescription drugs," asked Gretchen DuBeau, AAHF Executive Director.

Dr Damien Downing, ANH Medical Director, President of the British Society of Ecological Medicine and Editor-in-Chief of the peer reviewed journal, the Journal of Nutritional and Environmental Medicine, on reading the Sesso et al. paper independently responded, saying it was "an intervention designed to fail"!

ANH Scientific & Executive Director, Dr Robert Verkerk added, "With three of the world's largest drug companies, namely BASF, Wyeth and DSM--formerly Roche--supplying the low dose synthetic vitamins for the study, it's perhaps not surprising that the outcome is made to look bad for vitamins. A trial like this costs a huge amount of money and is a waste of much needed research funds. Why don't they ask the people who work with nutrients on a daily basis--integrative medicine doctors--what nutrient forms, combinations and dosages are most likely to work?"

The ANH analysis, "Designed to Fail: A Trial Without Meaning", is available at: http://www. anhcampaign. org/files/081117_Sesso_PHSII_ANHrebuttal. pdf (http://www. anhcampaign. org/files/081117_Sesso_PHSII_ANHrebuttal. pdf).

The Alliance for Natural Health (ANH) is an international, non-governmental organisation, based in the UK. It was founded in 2002, and works on behalf of consumers, medical doctors, complementary health practitioners and health-product suppliers worldwide, to protect and promote natural healthcare, using the principles of good science and good law.
The ANH's overriding goal is to help develop appropriate legal and scientific frameworks for the development of sustainable approaches to healthcare. As in the fields of energy and agriculture, sustainable healthcare invariably requires use of natural products which are inherently compatible with human biochemistry and physiology. Within this setting, consumers and health professionals should be able to make informed choices about a wide range of health options, and in particular those that relate to diet, lifestyle, traditional medicinal and non-drug-based or natural therapies, so that they may experience their benefits to the full while avoiding unnecessary risks.

Winner of Dave Scott Triathlete Training Weekend Collects

Collecting his prize of a personal training weekend with six-time Ironman World Champion, Dave Scott, plus a case of Master Amino Acid Pattern (MAP)™ was voted "outstanding" by Wayne Johannes, the winner of the BodyHealth. com drawing. As he trains hard for Ironman Arizona, timing of Wayne's weekend could not have been better. Details about Master Amino Acid Pattern (MAP) can be found at www. BodyHealth. com

Clearwater, FL (PRWEB) March 10, 2008

Collecting his prize of a personal training weekend with six-time Ironman World Champion, Dave Scott, plus a case of Master Amino Acid Pattern (MAP)™ was voted "outstanding" by Wayne Johannes, the winner of the BodyHealth. com drawing. As he trains hard for Ironman Arizona, timing of Wayne's weekend could not have been better.

61-year old Wayne jetted in to Dave Scott's home town of Boulder, CO to collect his prize of two days of intensive personalized training with the triathlon legend. Wayne enthused, "Dave is a super-hero but what surprised me was how very down to earth and approachable he is. I was astounded by his depth of knowledge and his ability to put his training tips across in a simple but very effective way."

In addition to coaching, Dave is also a race nutrition expert. "Dave said he recommends Master Amino Acid Pattern (MAP) to all his athletes because it's unrivalled as a protein supplement for endurance athletes" says Wayne. "I have personally been using Master Amino Acid Pattern (MAP) regularly for the past four years because it makes a big difference to my performance and recovery."

Master Amino Acid Pattern (MAP) is a dietary protein substitute that provides a unique pattern of essential amino acids in a highly purified, free, crystalline form. Master Amino Acid Pattern (MAP) is indicated as a safe and effective substitute for dietary proteins. Clinical studies have shown that the use of Master Amino Acid Pattern (MAP) during physical activity, may be a substitute for dietary proteins or protein supplements in a safer and nutritionally more efficient way, to optimize body protein synthesis and provide a faster and more effective muscle recovery after physical activity. It also optimizes muscle mass, strength and endurance.

Dave fine-tuned Wayne's swim and bike techniques and provided valuable insight into his running problems. Wayne commented, "In the past, when I increased my mileage, I would end up with some kind of injury. Dave helped explain the different phases of the run stride and then gave me "cues" to help me remember how to run correctly. A large part of my problem involves several muscles that support my running stride. Dave prescribed specific dryland exercises to strengthen these muscles and all the muscles of the core."

As a parting gift, Dave gave Wayne a training plan for his next big challenge - competing in Ironman Arizona in April. He included specific training workouts with suggested heart rates, length of workouts and mileage which Wayne is already putting into practice. "Being lucky enough to have personal tuition from someone of Dave's caliber was an unforgettable experience and I would recommend it to anyone." Visit Dave's website www. davescottinc. com for more information.

Dave Scott also had positive things to say about his time spent with Wayne. "I enjoyed the two days with Wayne very much. He worked hard and was willing to learn as much as possible. I was very pleased to discover that Wayne is a regular user of Master Amino Acid Pattern (MAP) and understands the great benefits the product brings to his physical well-being which includes his training and racing. I hope that the tips I gave him will help him achieve improved results and I wish Wayne the best of luck in Ironman Arizona."

Read Wayne's own personal account of his time spent with Dave Scott and his build-up to Ironman Arizona in his monthly report at www. bodyhealth. com. For more information about Master Amino Acid Pattern (MAP) visit www. BodyHealth. com or call 877-804-3258.

Honest Tea Introduces Six New Beverage Varieties at Expo West 2010

Organic Kombucha and Mate Lines to Expand with Exotic Maqui Berry from Patagonia

Anaheim, CA (Vocus) March 13, 2010

Honest Tea®, the nation's top-selling organic bottled tea company, is launching several new varieties of invigorating drinks this weekend at the Natural Products Expo West trade show at the Anaheim Convention Center.

Building on the positive reaction to this year’s launch of its first three Honest Kombucha varieties, two more, Maqui Berry Grapefruit and Apple Jasmine, are set to hit shelves next month. Honest Kombucha (kom-boo-cha) is a lightly sparkling, fermented tea beverage combining organic, Fair Trade Certified™ tea, raw, live, probiotic cultures and a touch of organic cane sugar. The maqui berry grapefruit blend introduces a new fruit to American palates – the maqui berry – a dark, high-antioxidant fruit from the Patagonia region of South America. This superfruit has the highest level antioxidant rating of any fruit at 945 on the ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) scale, which is three times the rating of acaĆ.

“We surprised ourselves by how quickly we’ve become addicted to Honest Kombucha,” said Seth Goldman, President and TeaEO. “Adding the antioxidant kick from the maqui berry gives an extra taste and nutrient boost.”

The maqui berry is also featured in Honest Tea’s new Maqui Berry Mate (MAH-tay), which is brewed with organic unsmoked yerba mate and lightly sweetened with organic cane sugar for a smooth, clean finish.

Honest Tea will also be launching a Half Tea & Half Lemonade beverage, a healthier approach to the iconic Half & Half (http://www. honesttea. com/tea/plastic/half_and_half/), which is the latest edition of certified organic and Fair Trade Certified™ beverages to join Honest Tea’s PET line of innovative teas and thirst quenchers. The Half & Half variety will be available across the country, including all CVS stores March 2010 for a suggested retail price of $1.79.

Additional varieties that will premier at the show include Honest Kids Berry Berry Good Lemonade in 64 fl. oz. bottles and Honest Kids Super Fruit Punch in pouches and 64 fl. oz. bottles. “We’ve seen such a strong response to our Honest Kids line as well as to our multiserve bottled tea, that it made sense to combine the two concepts – we were certainly getting lots of requests from parents,” Goldman said.

Honest Kombucha, also in its original three varieties, Berry Hibiscus, Lemon Ginger and Peach Mango, is available at a suggested retail price of $3.49 – $3.99 at natural foods stores nationwide. The drink has 7 grams of sugar and 35 calories per 8 fl. oz. serving.

CVAC Bolsters Team USA Win at Endurance Lifting World Championships

CVAC Bolsters Team USA Win at Endurance Lifting World Championships

CVAC™ (cyclic variations in altitude conditioning™) plays integral role in training regimen of Nick Delgado, PhD, world champion in over-50 group of world's strongest endurance men. Team USA is now number one in Endurance Lifting World Championships using 45-pound dumbbells; vertical lift, curl to press.

Temecula, CA (PRWEB) May 26, 2007 -

Dr. Nick Delgado, at age 52, competed in the Endurance Lifting World Championships held in London as part of the Seni Expo. Dr. Delgado, the oldest competitor in the event, lifted 45-pound dumbbells a total of 270 times, resulting in the second-highest number of lifts of all competitors of all ages.

Team USA (Dr. Delgado, his 14-year-old son, Nicholas, and Tim Nash, 33, a business executive) is now number one in Endurance Lifting World Championships using 45-pound dumbbells; vertical lift, curl to press. According to Dr. Delgado, the competitors' ages ranged primarily between the ages of 24 and 33 and they were fitness trainers or had athletic backgrounds. Team USA consists of the second-oldest competitor ever, the youngest competitor, and a business executive. His teammates recorded best-ever efforts.

"I am not only an athlete; I am president of a company, and a single father of four with an active professional and social life. The use of CVAC renewed my strength and enhanced my workouts even though I was exhausted from my hectic schedule. This recovery allows me to keep balance in my life," comments Dr. Delgado.

"We are encouraged with the evidences of metabolic enhancement in athletes (like Dr. Delgado) who use CVAC as part of their training. We anticipate that research will show that the metabolic enhancement that CVAC-using athletes experience will translate to metabolic improvements in individuals with insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome and diabetes," commented Allen J. Ruszkowski, President and CEO of CVAC Systems, Inc.

Dr. Nick Delgado is a researcher and lecturer in biochemistry and endocrinology. Dr. Delgado graduated from the University of Southern California and has continued studies at Loma Linda University, Cal State Long Beach, with endocrinology expert, Thierry Hertoghe, M. D. of Belgium, and at Rancho Los Amigos Hospital, USC. Formerly, he served as Director of the Pritikin Better Health Program of the Nathan Pritikin Longevity Center. Dr. Delgado's current activities include his work with professional golfers, mixed martial arts athletes and other peak performers; lectures on biochemistry, endocrinology, and healing and anti-aging; and his role as president of Ultimate Medical Research, LLC (www. ultimatemedicalresearch. com).
