Senior Housing Options, Resources Now Available on Senior Care Website La Dolce Living

Senior Housing Options, Resources Now Available on Senior Care Website La Dolce Living

Affordable senior housing and other senior care resources from La Dolce Living, Inc. are highlighted on its new-generation website. Aimed at being a “one-stop website for senior care,” it will help seniors and families find quality and affordable senior housing options and resources for themselves or their aging loved ones.

Mission Viejo, CA (PRWEB) June 17, 2010

La Dolce Living Inc. has just launched a complete senior care (http://www. ladolceliving. com/) website, including a listing of affordable senior housing options.

La Dolce Living®, meaning “Sweet Living” in Italian, has a free comprehensive online directory (http://www. ladolceliving. com/facility-search. html) that has more than 28,000 licensed, senior care facilities throughout California, Florida, Arizona and the rest of the U. S.

La Dolce Living, Inc., co-founded by a doctor with over 40 years of medical field experience, lets seniors and families find and compare the best quality and affordable assisted living, nursing homes, Alzheimer’s care, independent living, adult-day health care and other senior housing options throughout the U. S. Users are also able to read and comment on articles written by recognized industry professionals and participate in an online community forum (http://www. ladolceliving. com/discussion-forum/) with people going through similar challenges relating to senior care.

The inspiration for the website comes from its users, including a daughter in her mid-50s previously complaining about the lack of affordable senior care options and poor quality of “fresh” data for her mom, recalled Erwin T. Allado, CEO of La Dolce Living. Prior to forming the company, we would meet people left and right that did not know where to go for senior housing information. To this day, families are still not prepared to deal with their aging loved one emotionally and most especially financially.

“In the next 20 years, the senior population is doubling to 70 million, making seniors and Baby Boomers, the fastest and largest growing demographic on the Internet. With the ongoing caregiver shortage, the senior care industry will heavily depend on every senior care facility to provide care for the elderly. Our formula is simple. With everyone going through one of the hardest times in U. S. history, seniors and their families still need an easier way of finding more affordable senior care for themselves or their aging loved ones. We make that possible by helping every senior care facility get affordable, online visibility,” says Catharine Allado, Chief Operations Officer at La Dolce Living.

During development, Google reported that La Dolce Living’s website received over 350,000 page views from a total of 130 countries. “You guys did a fantastic job on your senior care website! I found it informative, helpful, and easy to navigate,” said Bill Joseph, prior VP of the Long Term Care Division at PHP Healthcare Corporation.

La Dolce Living also provides placement services for seniors needing quality and affordable long-term care by matching them with quality and affordable senior care facilities, such as assisted living, Alzheimer’s care, adult day care and more.

Added Erwin, “These are exciting times for us as we continue to expand quickly across the U. S. We want Seniors and their families to know that they are not alone during this emotional and important stage in their lives. La Dolce Living is committed to making senior care information reliable and easy to use, while providing the best senior housing options possible. In these difficult economic times, we want families to know that other senior care options exist and we are passionate in helping them with this very important decision.”

La Dolce Living is certified with TRUSTe (the world’s recognized organization for online privacy) and has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau.

About La Dolce Living
La Dolce Living was co-founded by Dr. Milo Allado, M. D., a pathologist with over 40 years in the medical field and Erwin and Catharine Allado (husband and wife), prior executive level managers that have helped build very successful IT companies. La Dolce Living’s free website services enables Seniors and their Families find and compare quality, affordable licensed senior care homes and facilities in California, Florida, Arizona and more. Users can also read articles by recognized industry professionals and join discussion forums with others going through the same senior care challenges. La Dolce Living is headquartered in Mission Viejo, California. For more information, visit http://www. ladolceliving. com (http://www. ladolceliving. com)

The Quantum Scale Helps in the Fight Against Childhood Obesity

The Quantum Scale Helps in the Fight Against Childhood Obesity

Positive reinforcement rather than setting a target weight is the key to success.

Kitchener, ON (PRWEB) July 6, 2010

A new tool for reducing the rate of childhood obesity, the Quantum Scale relies on positive reinforcement and encouragement to help promote weight loss and a healthier lifestyle for children and adolescents.

This revolutionary scale is designed to play an important role in fighting childhood obesity by taking away the child's psychological burden of trying to reach a predetermined or ideal weight (which often leads to an unhealthy obsession with weight loss). And it does this in a new, innovative way.

The scale registers (but does not display) the actual weight of the user, storing it in the scale's memory. From that point on, the scale only displays weight loss or gain. Users of the Quantum Scale report that focusing on the progress of weight loss instead of the child's total weight improves their self image and they find the child is more apt to use the scale (as opposed to traditional scales) to track their progress. Plus, the child identifies with the cause and effect of their weight loss efforts rather than focusing on a predetermined outcome.

Childhood obesity has more than tripled in the last 30 years. And the first lady, Michelle Obama, is leading an initiative to deal with the problem (USA Today*) The US Department of Health and Human Services states that overweight adolescents have a 70 percent chance of becoming overweight or obese adults with the associated risks of illness and disease.

The creators of the Quantum Scale also remark that eliminating the tag of a three-digit number (total weight) helps the child focus on healthy eating and exercise instead of reaching a preset, and sometimes unrealistic target weight.

Available in five colors, the Quantum Scale is sold through a number of retail outlets and can also be purchased directly from their website at http://site. quantumscale. com/ (http://site. quantumscale. com/).

About the company: Susan Taylor is the founder of the Quantum Scale and a leader in the effort to help children and adolescents world wide maintain a positive self image as they embrace a healthier lifestyle.

Improve Patients' Quality of Life With aveoTSD(R) Anti-Snoring Device From Glidewell Dental Lab

Improve Patients' Quality of Life With aveoTSD(R) Anti-Snoring Device From Glidewell Dental Lab

Glidewell Dental Lab, provider of dental appliances for the treatment of snoring and sleep apnea, has successfully launched its newest product to dentists and patients: the aveoTSD.

Newport Beach, CA (PRWEB) July 30, 2010

Glidewell Dental Lab (http://www. glidewelldental. com) (http://www. glidewelldental. com (http://www. glidewelldental. com)), provider of dental appliances for the treatment of snoring and sleep apnea, has successfully launched its newest product to dentists and patients: the aveoTSD (http://www. getaveo. com (http://www. getaveo. com)). A simple, inexpensive anti-snoring device, the aveoTSD is an effective form of treatment for problem snoring. Available to patients through dentist, physician or medical specialist prescription, this easy-to-use, noninvasive anti-snoring aid improves health and quality of life.

An estimated 80 million people in the U. S. are affected by a chronic sleep disorder. Snoring is the most common and is caused by a narrowing of the upper airway during sleep. Large tonsils, a long uvula or excessive flabby tissue in the throat can contribute to this narrowing. Additionally, lifestyle factors such as being overweight, consuming alcohol and using tobacco can facilitate snoring. Age also plays a part, with 60 percent of men and 40 percent of women between the ages of 41 and 65 suffering from habitual snoring, according to the National Institutes of Health.

However, the most common cause of the narrowing of the upper airway is a tongue muscle that becomes too relaxed during sleep. When relaxed, the tongue gets sucked back into the throat and causes an obstruction in the airway. When air travels rapidly through the narrowed airway, it causes the relaxed soft tissues of the throat to vibrate. It is this vibration that creates the sound of snoring.

Habitual snoring, in which the tongue is completely sucked against the back of the throat and blocks breathing, can pose serious health risks. Snorers can experience symptoms such as fragmented sleep, dry mouth, morning headaches, memory deficit, depression, nocturia and nighttime reflux. Snoring also reduces blood oxygen levels, resulting in high blood pressure and increased stroke risk. It can also be a sign of diabetes.

What’s more, quality of life is impacted negatively by chronic snoring. Snoring reduces deep, quality restorative sleep, which leads to extreme tiredness during the day. This daytime sleepiness affects personal, intellectual and physical performance.

Today, many patients are turning to medical professionals to seek relief from snoring. Luckily, they can find relief for problem snoring by visiting their dentist, physician or a medical specialist. Traditional anti-snoring appliances such as mandibular advancement devices are custom made to fit the upper and lower teeth. They work by positioning the lower jaw forward, moving the base of the tongue forward and opening the airway. While effective, these devices are not indicated for patients with TMJ/TMD and bite problems and those who are edentulous. Surgery on the upper airway is invasive; the surgical success rate is often unpredictable and, as with any surgical procedure, it is not without risks.

The new aveoTSD offers an alternative to these traditional treatments. It is the simplest and least invasive device indicated for problem snoring and can be used for the treatment of simple snoring in both dentate and edentulous patients because it does not attach to the teeth. The aveoTSD anti-snoring device (http://www. glidewelldental. com/dentist/services/removables-aveo-tsd. aspx) works by attaching to the end of the tongue using negative suction, holding the tongue forward during sleep. This ensures the airway stays open. The device increases airway space by preventing the tongue from falling back in the throat, reducing air velocity and soft tissue vibrations and thereby reducing snoring. Cephalometric and videoendoscopy studies have established that tongue protrusion creates a greater increase in oropharyngeal, velopharyngeal and hypopharyngeal cross-sectional areas of the upper airway, hence improving airway patency and function, helping those with chronic snoring to sleep sounder and breathe easier.

Developed through more than five years of clinical research by Dr. Chris Robertson, a Dental Sleep Medicine specialist, aveoTSD requires no impressions, no adjustments and has no moving parts. Available by prescription from a dentist, physician or medical specialist, the aveoTSD offers immediate relief to patients who snore. And because it doesn’t sit over dentition, it can be given to the patient on the same day they inquire about treatment. It is made from ISO 10993 medical-grade silicone and available in three sizes, though 95 percent of patients can comfortably wear the medium-size device. This ease of fit represents another advancement in the treatment of snoring.

Glidewell Laboratories is the exclusive U. S. distributor of the aveoTSD. For more information on aveoTSD, including fitting procedures, care instructions and how to order, visit http://www. getaveo. com (http://www. getaveo. com) or call 800-334-1979.

'Breast Implants are Not for Everyone': Atlanta Plastic Surgeon Dr. David Whiteman Suggests Breast Lift Surgery as an Alternative to a Breast Augmentation

'Breast Implants are Not for Everyone': Atlanta Plastic Surgeon Dr. David Whiteman Suggests Breast Lift Surgery as an Alternative to a Breast Augmentation

According to the National Women’s Health Resource Center, 50 percent of US women know someone who has breast implants. But double board certified plastic surgeon David M. Whiteman, MD of Southern Plastic Surgery in Atlanta discusses how breast lift surgery may be a better alternative to improving the overall look of the breasts.

Atlanta (Vocus) April 29, 2010

According to the National Women’s Health Resource Center, 50 percent of US women know someone who has breast implants. But double board certified plastic surgeon David Whiteman, MD of Southern Plastic Surgery in Atlanta believes that, for some women, breast lift surgery may be a better alternative to improving the overall look of the breasts.

Dr. Whiteman is the founder of Southern Plastic Surgery, a practice devoted to aesthetic enhancement and cosmetic plastic surgery in Atlanta. “Breast implants are not for everyone,” says Whiteman. “Many of the women that come into my practice inquire about breast implants because they desire a perkier, more lifted look. I often suggest breast lift surgery, which can achieve a higher position and more lifted look while maintaining the natural feel of the breast.”

A combination of factors, such as gravity, aging, pregnancy, or dramatic fluctuations in weight, can cause skin to lose its elasticity and result in sagging or lowered breast position. With a few simple incisions and the tightening of breast tissue, breast lift surgery can help some women achieve more lifted, firmer, and more youthful looking breasts without the need for an artificial implant.

Nipple revision surgery, or the reshaping and repositioning of the areola or area of darker skin surrounding the nipple, is commonly performed during breast lift surgery. Reducing the size of the nipple or repositioning it higher on the breast can significantly enhance the overall aesthetics of the breasts.

One exciting advancement on the horizon of breast lift surgery is a procedure called Laser Bra Surgery, a technique using CO2 laser technology to tighten tissue underneath the breast, attach this tissue to the chest wall; ands essentially create an “internal bra” out of your own excess breast tissue.

Advancements in plastic surgery technology and Dr. Whiteman’s years of experience in performing breast lifts have made the procedure as minimally invasive as possible and have significantly reduced the appearance of post surgical scarring.

Southern Plastic Surgery – Dr. David Whiteman
Southern Plastic Surgery was founded in 1993 by David M. Whiteman, M. D., F. R.C. S. Dr. Whiteman serves as the Chief of Plastic Surgery for Gwinnett Medical Center and is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. With a special interest in assisting women suffering from breast cancer, Dr. Whiteman created a “buddy system” for his breast reconstruction patients to discuss their journeys to recovery and also serves on the board of directors for The Sport of Giving, a women’s cancer care and prevention non-profit organization.

Southern Plastic Surgery is an Atlanta-area practice specializing in cosmetic and plastic surgical procedures of the breast, body, and face. Apple iPhone Buzz Remains Strong in Online Discussion Despite 27 Percent Decline in Traditional Media Coverage

Apple iPhone Buzz Remains Strong in Online Discussion Despite 27 Percent Decline in Traditional Media Coverage

Online Discussion Not as Great as Game Consoles and Other Product Launches.

San Mateo, CA (PRWEB) August 17, 2007

Biz360® Inc., the leading provider of media and market intelligence solutions, today released its analysis of the Apple iPhone launch, which shows a strong increase in consumer buzz for July, following the frenzy of the pre-launch hype. Apple launched the device on June 29, 2007. The iPhone posted the increase in online discussion despite a 27 percent decline in mainstream media coverage for July (broadcast, print and online news stories).

While the iPhone generated strong buzz for a new product launch, it fell far short of the record for product launches tracked by Biz360. The Nintendo Wii, which launched in November 2006, generated more than twice the online discussion for the month following its launch than did the iPhone. The Nintendo Wii's holiday buzz was a prelude to sales that would follow as it beat out the other newly launched game consoles in January 2007 and overtook the market leader in monthly sales, the Sony Playstation 2, in April 2007.

One dominant issue in blog discussion and mainstream media coverage of the iPhone during the week of the launch was an activation problem through Apple's mobile service provider, AT&T. The issue was among the most popular online discussion topics and accounted for 8.3 percent of all blog posts mentioning the iPhone for the week of June 25, 2007, however, the problem only affected a small percent of iPhones sold. The activation issue decreased to 8.0 percent of iPhone blog posts and then 2.7 percent in the subsequent weeks.

"Marketers already know there's a correlation between online discussion of their products and sales," said Tony Priore, chief marketing officer at Biz360, Inc. "But, when there's a product delivery or service issue, the number of customers affected rarely equals the amount of product discussion on the issue," he added. "Understanding the severity of the problem and the customers' expectations can help marketers contextualize the issue and assess its real impact. This context can help marketers develop a measured reaction that preserves brand value and sales and is on target with customer expectations."

About Biz360:

Michigan Spinal Cord Injury Association to Build Ramp to Help Mother of 7 Trapped in her House

Michigan Spinal Cord Injury Association to Build Ramp to Help Mother of 7 Trapped in her House

The Michigan Spinal Cord Injury Association (MSCIA) has chosen to utilize donation money from their first major event to assist a woman in Detroit, who has not been able to leave her house in over a year except by ambulance to visit her doctor.

Troy, MI (Vocus) November 4, 2010

The Michigan Spinal Cord Injury Association (MSCIA) has chosen to utilize donation money from their first major event to assist a woman in Detroit, who has not been able to leave her house in over a year except by ambulance to visit her doctor.

Marie was diagnosed with Lupus over thirteen years ago, but only recently has it disabled her to the point of not being able to leave her house without assistance. Since November 2009, the disease has paralyzed her from the waist down. In addition to her struggles with Lupus, Marie has also been diagnosed Neuromyelitis optica, or Devic's disease, a central nervous system disorder involving inflammation of the eye nerves and inflammation of the spinal cord.

Marie is a mother of seven children, five of which currently live at home with her. She contacted Janet Prince at the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan, who in turn reached out to the MSCIA for help. “I would very much enjoy to be able to go out and see the world,” Marie says of her need for a ramp at her front door. “I’ve been a caregiver for most of my life, but now I am in need of help myself.”

The MSCIA held a very successful “Rolling with Promise” informational event and dinner at The San Marino Club in Troy, on July 15, and are eager to utilize the donations collected from the event to directly benefit spinal cord injured members of the community. “We wanted all of the donation money received to go straight back to the community, and we are truly excited to have the opportunity to make such an impact on a person’s life. We hope that we can do a lot more of this!” says MSCIA Board Member Stacey Murphy.

The focus of the MSCIA is to enhance and empower those with spinal cord injury and disease to achieve and maintain the highest levels of independence, health and personal fulfillment. The MSCIA is the Michigan chapter of the National Spinal Cord Injury Association, or the NSCIA. The NSCIA, founded in 1948, is the nation’s oldest and largest civilian organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for hundreds of thousands of Americans living with the results of spinal cord injury and disease and their families. Collectively, there are over 24,000 voices representing the association.

After the project was approved unanimously by the MSCIA Board Members, Disability Made Easy of Troy (a barrier-free construction company) was given the task of building the ramp. The Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters (MRCC) donated directly to the ramp-building project to cover all extra costs. “This ramp is an opportunity to give a piece of equipment that will keep giving back to Marie every time she uses it,” says MSCIA Board Member Kathryn Warner. “We love that we were able to help her out in such a big way.”

Construction for the ramp begins this Monday, November 8, and the MSCIA as well as all others involved are eager to see the project completed. “The sooner we can have the ramp built, the sooner Marie can enjoy freedom to come and go from her home as she pleases,” says MSCIA Board Member Gregory Jamian. “We hope, with these efforts, we can make her day-to-day living just a little bit easier for her and her family.”

For more information about the MSCIA and this upcoming project, or to interview Marie or an MSCIA member, please contact Cristina Shallal at 248.288.2270, or email info(at)mispinalcord(dot)org.

New Site Provides Yoga Community a Place to Connect outside the Studio

New Site Provides Yoga Community a Place to Connect outside the Studio

The newly launched YogaConnect Web site (www. YogaConnect. com) is the premier online destination for yoga enthusiasts to connect outside of the studio.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) May 24, 2005

A newly launched Web site, www. YogaConnect. com, provides the first conscious dating and community Web site for the yoga culture.

Every day, yoga continues to have a transformational effect on the lives of people in the US. Currently 20 million Americans are practicing yoga with that number continuing to grow rapidly. While there are an incredible number of people experiencing the yoga awakening, many still find themselves wondering where to look in this rapidly emerging culture to find like-minds. In fact, seeking out others who share a passion for yoga has been pretty much confined to those who practice sun salutations at their local studiosÂ…until now, thanks to a site appropriately called YogaConnect (www. yogaconnect. com).

The inspiration for YogaConnect came in 2004 when, just prior to the start of a yoga class, the soon-to-be founders overheard a fellow practitioner commenting to a friend about how great it would be to meet someone who shared her love of yoga. This comment, along with their own passion for yoga, led the Los Angeles based group to create a fun and unique destination for those experiencing the yogic lifestyle. With yoga having such a profound effect on many people's lives, the company realized the moment was right to create a site where the yoga culture could interact, explore, share ideas and create relationships of all kinds.

Yoga means union, which is exactly what YogaConnect is about. “There's a magic that occurs when we begin to practice yoga. We may find ourselves more interested in environmental issues, adopting a healthier lifestyle, or embracing more opportunities for personal growth. Narconon Steps In To Help Current Abuse Trends

Narconon Steps In To Help Current Abuse Trends

2009 summary reports Increase of drug abuse thus the need for more drug education

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) December 31, 2009

The National Institute on Drug Abuse Highlights and Executive Summary (http://www. drugabuse. gov/PDF/CEWG/CEWGJan09508Compliant. pdf) for 2009 shows unhealthy trends in increasing drug abuse trends, however, Narconon has stepped into the forefront by providing effective drug-free solutions.

As 2009 comes to a close the trends in drug abuse paint a bleak picture. Probably the most startling trend increase is prescription painkiller addiction (http://www. narconon. org/drug-information/prescription-drugs. html), not just in overdoses and abuse but also being more prevalent on the streets. Marijuana was also reported as high and stable for most areas. In the nation’s capital higher percentages of juvenile arrestees tested positive for Marijuana than for any other drug.

With drugs so prevalent and available in our society Narconon has recently issued a 30 second holiday public service announcement encouraging Americans to get those who need treatment help before it is too late.

With rising drug abuse trends and no signs of this epidemic stopping, Americans need now more than ever effective drug prevention and rehabilitation. Narconon (http://narcononeastus. org/) provides not only effective drug and alcohol rehabilitation but drug education lecture in schools, businesses and community groups to prevent youth from ever turning to drugs to begin with.

Wherever Narconon Drug education goes in drug abuse trends reduce (http://www. narconon. org/drug-prevention/) among the area. The truth is once youth or adults are truly educated on the truth about drugs and the ramifications of even a single drug trip, the desire to try drugs plummets.

When it comes to rehabilitating drug addicts Narconon has proven highly effective. With normal drug rehabilitation having a success rate of about 16%, Narconon is in the vanguard with an over 70% success rate that continues year after year. Narconon graduates continue to live drug free lives.

2010 brings forward new hopes and dreams to be achieved. As 2009 closes we can leave the errors of the past and set a new course for the future. America does not have to continue its rising trends of drug abuse. Narconon offers the solution for both those who have fallen into the trap of drug or alcohol addiction and those who are about to start on that treacherous self-destructive road down of trying illegal drugs for the first time.

If you would like more information on Narconon's drug education, prevention and rehabilitation programs (http://narcononeastus. org/) or would like to schedule a lecture in your own school or community group contact Narconon at 877-237-3307.

War Frightened Kids --'Shock and Awe' Can Mean 'Run and Hide'

War Frightened Kids --'Shock and Awe' Can Mean 'Run and Hide'

As the Iraq bombing campaign continues with nonstop coverage of disturbing images and sounds of war, the 'Shock and Awe' military campaign can translate into fearful 'Run and Hide' feelings in children experiencing war fears," according to Robert R. Butterworth, Ph. D., a Los Angeles-based psychologist who treated children who experienced psychological difficulties during the 1991 Gulf War crisis.

(PRWEB) April 3, 2003

"With the constant images of war on TV, children are becoming increasingly frightened. We can effectively change their fear into anger, an emotion that's easier for children to control." Butterworth suggests to parents, "If you have a young child who's afraid of a possible war, have them draw a picture of Saddam Hussein and flush it down the toilet while the child yells -- 'You're a bad man, go away.'"

This is just one of the strategies that Butterworth tells parents to use to help war-frightened children express their anxieties. Butterworth uses maps and pictures of the Persian Gulf and of Saddam Hussein, crayons and paper for children to draw their fantasies and fear images of war.

"Parents need to get in the practice of conducting a 'child's war briefing' -- a clear, understandable explanation of the war news that occurs daily," says Butterworth, whose three-phase approach helps parents prepare their children for a possible war with Iraq. "Families of soldiers involved in an invasion should also expect to experience numerous stress reactions as a result of separation from loved ones and the realization of the dangers involved. Unfortunately, friends and relatives may be unintentionally thoughtless or not particularly helpful. What helps is bringing together those individuals who are going through the same experiences, to share feelings of loss and to offer social contact and emotional support."

Butterworth has a strategy to help parents prepare their children for a possible Gulf Crisis:

Parental Tips for Children

Find out how much a child knows about the Iraq crisis and their feelings concerning a possible war.

Explain the "who, what, where" of the conflict -- children who do not know the real facts will fantasize their own version of reality, which can create more stress than would occur by a clear and understandable explanation of the actual events.

Be alert for anxiety in children who become frightened when exposed to television coverage -- fear and anxiety can be manifested by attention-getting behavior, physical complaints, regressive symptoms and declining school performance. A child's emotional reaction often reflects an adult's response to the crisis.

Parents need to be honest about their emotions and encourage their children to discuss feelings.

Explain facts truthfully -- get into a practice of conducting a "Child's War Briefing": a clear and understandable explanation of the war situation. Parents may be hesitant to let their children watch news reports, afraid that their kids could be traumatized. "But protecting children from the reality of the Iraq situation can do more harm than good," said Butterworth.

Create a supportive environment in which children can discuss their feelings and even debate with parents their opinions concerning the possible conflict -- honesty regarding parental emotions while talking about feelings in a supportive environment is crucial.

A parent also needs to be sensitive that discussion is not inhibited if a child disagrees with an adult opinion. Exposure to differing viewpoints is healthy. A child's belief often reflects not just the family environment but relatives, friends, school and church beliefs.

War explanations need to be geared to the child's age level -- Some children may be quite sophisticated, others not. Attempt to answer all inquiries in a way that a child can comprehend. The nature of a child's inquiry will usually guide a parental response. Let the child set the pace of questioning, but don't avoid answering direct questions.

Talk about moral issues -- there are important lessons that can be brought out by war; war is serious and not fun. War can also lead to a more pessimistic view of the world and of the future for a child. Never glorify war to a child. Children should be told that war is a terrible event that may be necessary at times but never sought out.

Talking with children about how some children may stereotype all Arabs in the Middle East as the enemy is also crucial.

If a child has a parent in the Military, be alert for separation anxiety symptoms -- it's important to understand that a child may react with denial, anger, worry, or indifference to this separation. These behaviors are psychological defense strategies that tell us the child is worried about the parent and reacting emotionally to the parental separation.

The psychologist uses maps, toy tanks, soldiers and aircraft in a simulated "Desert City" to explain the Persian Gulf crisis to children.

Experienced Entrepreneur Launches CareCloud, A Web-Based Healthcare IT Ecosystem

Experienced Entrepreneur Launches CareCloud, A Web-Based Healthcare IT Ecosystem

Albert Santalo, Founder and former CEO of Avisena, sets sights on reducing waste in healthcare through the use of technology. Santalo has recently launched CareCloud, a healthcare IT company designed to tackle inefficiencies in the industry and allow physicians/caregivers to streamline their practices and focus their energies on providing excellent healthcare. With CareCloud, Santalo is focusing his energy in what he's most interested in...creating revolutionary technology, focusing on high growth and providing healthcare providers with tools to help overcome some of the challenges they face on a daily basis.

Miami, Fla. (PRWEB) September 21, 2009

Advancements in technology and universal acceptance of the Internet have paved the way for major improvements in the healthcare industry. According to a recent report released by PricewaterhouseCooper's Health Research Institute in August 2009, 1.2 trillion healthcare dollars are wasted each year, with two of the main culprits being administrative inefficiency and redundant care. Albert Santalo, Founder and CEO of CareCloud, a healthcare IT company, is tackling these issues head-on and working alongside his technology team on building CareCloud's proprietary software that is based on a revolutionary systems architecture that will treat healthcare and its participants as an ecosystem - an integrated environment where all participants share a common commitment of reducing inefficiencies and providing excellence in healthcare.

"Caregivers do not operate individually in the real world, so why would they in the virtual world?" said Albert Santalo, Founder and CEO of CareCloud. "Current offerings in the marketplace do not address this dynamic."

Leveraging a cloud-computing delivery model led by technology giants such as Amazon, CareCloud has built its technology based on the most modern, open-source tools available today. The CareCloud platform was created for the end-user with a keen focus on human-centered design and will enable physicians to streamline many aspects of their practice.

Santalo is no stranger to building a high growth company from the ground up. Prior to creating CareCloud, he was CEO of Avisena, a software-enabled revenue cycle management company he founded in 2001. Under his leadership the firm experienced extremely high double-digit revenue growth rates between 2004 and 2008. Santalo also worked at The Hackett Group (NASDAQ: HCKT), where he was a management consultant in the firm's IT Transformation Practice. During his tenure he worked with Global 2000 companies assisting them with IT strategy and technology-enabled business process transformation.

At CareCloud, Santalo has assembled a software development team comprised of industry veterans with large enterprise and healthcare experience ranging from Oracle and Sprint to IBM and Siemens. Recognizing key competitors' deficiencies, Santalo has kept CareCloud's focus on software architecture from day one.

"Most healthcare IT companies start with a bootstrapped development effort," said Santalo. "At CareCloud, we made sure to secure the proper investment capital and then assembled the best team available. From there we worked on cementing foundational components such as workflow, security and collaboration tools," Santalo continued. "All of our systems were then constructed upon this framework."

While CareCloud recognizes that technology is their business, a focus on people is the cornerstone of the company's culture. The goal is to build a truly great company that is beloved by customers, investors, and employees alike. By taking care of employees, treating them like family and providing them with equity stake in the company, CareCloud underscores its commitment to excellence and ensures that customers receive the very best service possible.

This workout program enables teen girls to keep in shape with workout routines and stay healthy during the summer months.

Fort Lauderdale, FL (PRWEB) June 15, 2009

FitTEEN™ was created by Lady of America to positively address the nationwide crisis of teenage obesity, and to encourage female teens to embrace a more active lifestyle with workout routines (http://www. ladyofamerica. com/about/june_11_09.asp). It's not hard to make exercise a part of your everyday life when you start young."

Negas says that convenient access to fitness creates a makes it easier to prevent the types of diseases and disabilities caused by long-term obesity. Taking action early on can have a profound effect on increasing the quality of life in young adults. ViSalus Sciences Donates to American Idol Gives Back Foundation

ViSalus Sciences Donates to American Idol Gives Back Foundation

ViSalus Sciences, pioneers in the health and wellness industry, donated to American Idol Gives Back during a charity broadcast last week.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) April 15, 2008

ViSalus Sciences, leaders in innovative nutritional solutions, made a donation to the American Idol Gives Back Foundation. The charity broadcast event took place last Wednesday in support of education, health and other services for children and their families in the U. S. and nationwide.

"When we learned we could save thousands of lives with a donation, we acted immediately," said Ryan Blair, CEO of ViSalus Sciences. "Hearing that a malaria vaccine costs a mere 49 cents, and that millions of people in Africa die every year because of a lack of attention to this and other issues, we had to do something."

Blair highlighted philanthropy among the core values of the company. "ViSalus stands for life, health and prosperity," he said. "Prosperity to us is more than just the financial gains, but what you do with them. With efforts like this, we can serve as an example for our distributors, giving back to the causes that touch our hearts."

The ViSalus community supports hundreds of charities and nonprofits through the company's partnership with Make The Difference Network (http://www. visalus. com/company/mtdn. asp). Created by actress Jessica Biel and her father Jon, the site connects donors looking to give back with charities and nonprofits in need of support.

"Giving is something every entrepreneur should do," said Blake Mallen, ViSalus Chief Marketing Officer who co-founded ViSalus Sciences with Blair. "We make that a central focus of our company's core values."

"American Idol noticed that their vast network of viewers was not just a revenue source for FOX, but a force for change if mobilized in the right direction," added Nick Sarnicola, Chief Sales Officer and third founder of ViSalus Sciences. "With a community of customers and distributors who are passionate about giving back, we felt a responsibility to give them an avenue to do that, and to set the example as a company."

Idol Gives Back began as a charity event in 2007 and has developed into a foundation started by FremantleMedia North America, Fox Broadcasting Company and 19 Entertainment. Simon Fuller, director and president of the American Idol Gives Back Foundation, is also CEO of 19 Entertainment, a producer of the Emmy award-winning television show.

Petrol prices start to bite for the New Zealand motorist! Beat the pump prices at Petrol Busters (http://www. petrolbusters. co. nz).

Record petrol prices are tipped to almost double the cost of keeping the average family car on the road to $103 a week. More motorists are turning to public transport as petrol price rises start to bite, with bus and train operators reporting passenger numbers across the Wellington region up by at least 5 per cent. A study by the New Zealand Institute of Economic Research suggests more pain is on the way, with the cost of keeping a car on the road likely to have risen sharply by 2007.

(PRWEB) May 27, 2006

Wellington, New Zealand May 27, 2006 -- Inspired by the media reports of the continual rise in fuel prices in New Zealand, the technical crew at The Livewire Solutions Group (http://www. livewiresolutions. com (http://www. livewiresolutions. com)) have created Petrol Busters.

Petrol Busters is a forum based Web site that gives New Zealand motorists the opportunity to express their opinion within a like minded community.

It's an open forum, with registration unrestricted to allow a healthy debate to grow in regards to the fuel price issue that many motorists are finding hard to budget for.

It is envisioned that the forum will grow to also include other aspects of transport issues in New Zealand and the Petrol Busters Administrators are ready to take any feedback given and further develop the site to meet the needs of its members.

Petrol Busters is hosted and supported by The Livewire Solutions Group as a public service and it is hoped that as the site becomes the focal point for the fuel price debate that its contributes to ensuring that oil companies and government bodies take note of the opinions and concerns expressed.

The Future Of Big Pharma – How New Challenges and Generic Competition is Shaping the Future of the Pharmaceutical Industry

The Future Of Big Pharma – How New Challenges and Generic Competition is Shaping the Future of the Pharmaceutical Industry

The future looks uncertain for the leading pharmaceutical companies in today’s market. There has been considerable speculation made on how the industry is developing and what course it is taking. The only aspect that looks clear is that generic companies are no longer in the shadows of their brand-name counterparts. As a result of patents expiring and the worldwide demand for cheaper medications, these companies have transformed past threats into real opportunities by creating a competitive advantage over their rivals.

Barcelona, SPAIN (PRWEB) May 26, 2006

A way of analysing this shift in market share and the rise in generic competition is by looking at what “Big Pharma” is currently focusing on and where it may be failing. Many of the industry’s professionals would share the opinion that their activity and business strategies have remained the same for the past decade. Disappointingly, the focus for discussion and growth appear to be limited to corporate restructuring, redefining product portfolios, and looking out for the interests of the shareholder. As if that was the be-all and end-all.

Launching new blockbuster drugs has always drawn positive results for a company with regards to increasing market share and capitalizing on huge margins. Take Pfizer, for example: its new anti-smoking drug Chantix is the fourth drug to received FDA clearance this year. But the launch of a blockbuster drug (that which exceeds the $1 bn barrier, so as to cover the supposed costs of R&D, marketing and sales) is proving to be an almost impossible feat. The reality is that no more new and innovative drugs in the majority of the therapeutic categories are left to be discovered. This drawback has led the way to pharma companies developing existing medications and subsequently marketing them as a “improved and revolutionary” new products to the uninformed end user. (It comes as no surprise then that a recent study claims that the super drug Lipitor - with 2005 sales of $12.2 bn - cuts risk of repeat stroke by 16%, just when its patent is due to expire this year.) The brutal fact is that in the last decade almost 65% of all approved drugs are simply modified versions of medications that already exist on the market.

Moreover, further uncertainties are brought to light surrounding the business strategies adopted by Big Pharma in the face of changing trends within the market place. Greater emphasis has been directed at playing out competition, drawing big question marks over their competitive practice and the ever-present moral debate that arises over the production of cheaper drugs for developing countries. Not only is it creating an unnecessary delay for those patients who urgently need life-saving medications, but many would agree that the effects are simply devastating and irrational.

By and large, increasing market share and product portfolios through mergers and acquisitions is also proving insufficient in the long term, caused by patient medical programs, hospitals, health services, physicians and consumers who continue looking for cheaper alternatives. Additionally, the rise in law suits over patent disputes is only diverting attention away from the research and development of new drugs. And if these so-called competitive practices were not enough, the situation goes from the sublime to the ridiculous, evident through the practice of unethical pharmaceutical marketing. If it isn’t drug makers of sleeping pills paying doctors to publish bad press about competing drugs from generic manufacturers (numerous news articles recently came to light regarding this), it’s big drug companies coming under fire for paying off generic competition to delay market entry of their products. It appears that the common practice that had previously riddled the industry with of reaching key prescribing physicians with incentives is now just a thing of the past. Today, the only certainty is that more than 55% of all prescriptions made in the US are for generic medications, and this is expected to rise to 70% by 2010.

So what does the future hold for each side of the industry coin? Despite the clear changes within the market, the future is by no means lost for the big brand-name powerhouses of old, who only a decade ago would bad-mouth generic medicine as inferior. These days, they have joined the bandwagon including the giant brand-name manufacturer Novartis, who is now also striving to become a major player in the generics field. More so, Swiss-based Roche announced only last week that it has reached an agreement with the South African company Aspen for the production of a generic version of oseltamivir for Africa, as part of continued efforts to increase and speed up availability of the medicine for influenza pandemic planning world wide.

A very significant, but also much overlooked method of addressing the challenges of the pharmaceutical industry’s weakening pipelines is through the creation of partnerships and building effective collaborations across the industry with innovative pharmaceutical companies, generic players and healthcare communication providers.

On the other hand, what is also evident is that segmentation and targeting have taken on a new importance, which additionally does not require increasing sales & marketing forces.

But it’s not only Big Pharma that are seeing hard times ahead. Generic manufacturers are also being faced with strong market pressures caused by weak product pipelines, limited growth possibilities, and increasing numbers of generic competitors fighting over pricing. Avantis, Ranbaxy and Dr. Reddy are fine examples of companies that are directing huge capital on takeovers in the EU block, and further a field in the US, as a means of fighting for their survival and corporate growth.

An increasing number of health communication companies are concentrating their efforts at co-promotion. These not only offers generic players but also Big Pharma companies the chance to work at further promoting a product, increase the visibility of a particular drug and also share the marketing costs between them. It gives the originator company the opportunity to save on marketing efforts that could otherwise be intended at promoting more promising, new medication. The effective implementation of co-marketing – where companies promote the same molecule under different brand names – and reaching licensing agreements is offering generic companies and their partners a chance to boost their image and consumer reach. Regardless of the objectives that have been set, it seems like a combination of these opportunities and a coherent business strategy is the clear winner in the fight for pharmaceutical supremacy…or survival depending on how one looks at it.
