Chocolate Dessert Lovers: Enjoy Stevia Treats with No Sugar or Artificial Sweeteners This Valentine's Day

Chocolate Dessert Lovers: Enjoy Stevia Treats with No Sugar or Artificial Sweeteners This Valentine's Day

Chocolate dessert lovers can enjoy delicious, healthier versions of their favorite desserts this Valentine's Day when using the better alternative stevia, instead of sugar or artificial sweeteners, thanks to cookbook author Lisa Jobs. Stevia makes desserts like chocolate-covered strawberries yummy, yet guilt-free lower in sugar, carbs and calories, and with no sacrifice in flavor.

King of Prussia, PA (PRWEB) January 24, 2007

This Valentine's Day indulge with delicious desserts like chocolate-covered strawberries made with stevia since there's no need for sugar or chemical sweeteners for this and other mouthwatering desserts, according to Sensational Stevia Desserts cookbook author Lisa Jobs.

In addition to the lower sugar content, the chocolate sauce used for these strawberries has no high fructose corn syrup, mono-glycerides, di-glycerides, polysorbate 80 or other undesirable ingredients found in commercial chocolate syrups.

"The old adage, 'have your cake and eat it too' really does apply when preparing desserts with stevia. Using stevia lowers your sugar and carbohydrate intake and virtually eliminates the highs and lows associated with sugar. Stevia also has no known side effects, unlike what many suffer from sugar and chemical sweeteners. In addition, diabetics and hypoglycemics can use stevia since it doesn't affect glucose levels," Jobs says. (If unfamiliar with stevia, see below**)

Author and former stevia business owner Lisa Jobs shares her secret desserts to help diabetics, dieters of all kinds, hypoglycemics, candida sufferers and health conscious consumers who want or need to reduce their sugar or artificial sweetener intake for any health or personal reason.

Jobs offers this recipe for Chocolate-Covered Strawberries excerpted from her book Sensational Stevia Desserts:

Chocolate-Covered Strawberries

Serving Size: 2 Tbsp.• Total Servings: approx. 8 (Makes about 1 cup sauce)

1-cup (8 oz.) chocolate chips (preferably Ghirardelli)

¼ cup 2% milk

3/8 tsp. stevia extract (see book, page xii for brand variances)

¼ tsp. vanilla extract

In a 2-cup measuring cup, mix chips and milk. Microwave on high for 1 minute. Stir until chips are melted and mixture becomes smooth (you may have to microwave an additional 15 to 20 seconds).

Stir in stevia and vanilla. If small clumps are still present, beat with electric or handheld mixer until completely smooth. Hold the strawberries by the stem and dip them individually in the chocolate sauce and place on wax paper-lined cookie sheet. You can either serve immediately or refrigerate for 1 hour or more and enjoy. You can also use this sauce as a fondue or delicious covering for other fruit, nuts, pound cake or angel food cake. Refrigerate leftover sauce and reheat in microwave.

**Stevia, an herb that is up to 400 times sweeter than sugar, has been used as an all-natural alternative to sugar and artificial sweeteners in many parts of the world for decades, especially Japan, Brazil and China. It has no calories, no carbohydrates and no fat. In addition, stevia does not cause tooth decay and, because it does not raise blood glucose levels, diabetics can use it. It is available in health food stores, natural grocers and online. For more information, visit www. steviadessert. com.

Businesses Can Be X-Rayed for Health

Businesses Can Be X-Rayed for Health

Many businesses are often in denial—they think they are in great shape, or they wouldn’t continue doing business, right? Who knows better than they do? The problem is that small companies that want to build up or grow often have to be their own doctor.

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) November 29, 2005

Many people feel they are in great physical shape—until they see their doctor. He's the one who hasn't become used to or blinded by any weaknesses. And he's the one with the x-ray machine that can actually “peer under the hood” to see if a person is really healthy – or whether they are another "tough guy" in denial.

Many businesses are often in denial—they think they are in great shape, or they wouldn’t continue doing business, right? Who knows better than they do?

The problem is that small companies that want to build up or grow itself often have to be their own doctor. They have to be the one with the x-ray machine.

No problem. Through years of helping businesses succeed, Steve Kaplan, author of the best-selling book Bag the Elephant!, has developed an ‘x-ray machine’ that allows companies to see inside and tell if they are ready to move ahead – or if they need a fitness program first.

To x-ray a company, Steve Kaplan takes pictures of these four things in the business:

1. Projected Revenue – Knowing a company's total revenues, and being able to see them as each individual contributing revenue stream, will help a company make invaluable decisions, such as which streams to develop or drop and whether it should go back to the drawing board altogether before moving forward.

2. Projected Cash Flow – When a company instantly knows everything about its cash flow, both monthly and per year, it has a good idea what short-term challenges are in its way and can see more clearly what it can do to affect them, to improve them.

3. Projected Income – Being familiar with profits and losses gives a company insight into year-to-year growth and general business trends.

4. Projected Balance Sheet – The balance sheet provides a snapshot of a business's financial condition at a particular point of time, usually the end of a fiscal year.

New Online Venture Offers Unique Herbal Supplements

New Online Venture Offers Unique Herbal Supplements

When it came time for Mildred Jones to start her own business, she did something unique by combining her love of the Lord and his message with the work that she's doing. The result is www. JCOnlineHerbalSupplements. com, a website that specializes in health supplements that can help with hypertension, vision problems, weight loss, menopause and a host of other issues.

Lemoore, CA (PRWEB) August 20, 2008

"Being a Christian and focusing on the spiritual and the mental well being of the people at my church, I wanted to focus on the physical, as well as the spiritual," explains Jones. "I am very health minded and I take many of these products for my own well being. I thought it would be a great idea just to sell them."

A fresh face to internet business, Jones's store opened in June 2008, but she's already taking the initiative and thinking about what to add to her company's catalog. "I want to expand my target base in the categories that are on my site, such as high blood pressure and menopause," Jones says. "In the near future, I'm thinking about building another website."

In addition to adding more products to her webstore, Jones has also launched a blog in conjunction with her site. www. JCOnlineHerbalSupplementsInfo. com offers a forum for customers who want to know more about Jones's products.

"The blog is for information," she relays, "to inform the public about health issues and health products. I will be talking about high blood pressure, menopause, diabetes, and some of the other categories that are on my website. There are a lot of people that are dealing with high blood pressure and diabetes and menopause."

With a limitless future ahead of her and www. JCOnlineHerbalSupplements. com, Jones still finds the energy to contribute her time to her church. "I also help in my church, which is important to me because God is my first priority," Jones says.

Because of God's message of grace and selflessness, Jones has been able to parlay her faith into a resource that will help people with health problems using natural methods; we should all be so lucky that there's at least one person whose faith is strong and kind enough to be shared with us all.

Massachusetts Medical Society and DrFirst Announce Agreement To Introduce Electronic Prescribing To Massachusetts Physicians

Massachusetts Medical Society and DrFirst Announce Agreement To Introduce Electronic Prescribing To Massachusetts Physicians

Mass. Medical Society, DrFirst announce electronic prescription program for Massachusetts physicians

(PRWEB) October 30, 2003

Agreement To Introduce Electronic Prescribing To Massachusetts Physicians

Massachusetts Medical Society Becomes the First State-Based Physician Organization to Endorse an Electronic Prescribing Application

Waltham, Mass., and Rockville, Md.(PRWEB) - October 28, 2003 - The Massachusetts Medical Society and DrFirst, a provider of electronic healthcare solutions for physicians and hospitals, today announced an agreement to introduce electronic prescribing to Massachusetts physicians through Rcopia, DrFirstÂ’s electronic prescription service.

Automating the prescription process can enhance prescribing overall by improving patient safety, accuracy, efficiency, convenience and the quality of information at the point of care. These enhancements enable healthcare professionals to spend more time on patient care and less on time-consuming phone calls and faxes related to the prescription process.

The Massachusetts Medical Society represents a growing number of physicians who will utilize the broad pharmacy connectivity offered by electronic prescribing in their clinical decision making for patients, all while reducing the administrative workload related to ordering and dispensing prescriptions among physicians and pharmacists. To encourage adoption among physicians, members of the Massachusetts Medical Society will receive discounts on DrFirst products.

“The Massachusetts Medical Society is committed to pursuing and promoting new technologies in the name of quality improvement, patient safety, and enhanced efficiency,” said Thomas E. Sullivan, M. D., President, Massachusetts Medical Society. “Medicine has certainly benefited from new technology in the fields of diagnosis and treatment, and we’re just now beginning to reap rewards through the appropriate application of information technology, particularly in the areas of administrative simplification and medical records.”

“Electronic prescription technology has many benefits to physicians, pharmacists and patients, the most important of which is the potential for increased patient safety. We’re excited to be at the forefront of helping to support usage of this new application,” said Sullivan.

The Massachusetts Medical Society chose DrFirstÂ’s Rcopia because it is a complete end-to-end solution. It offers state-of-the-art electronic prescribing service functionality for all physicians, including small and large practice groups, clinics, and independent physician associations (IPAs).

Rcopia is a SureScripts Certified Solution™, which enables physicians to electronically access and conduct two-way communications with more than 50 percent of chain and independent pharmacies across the country that will be connected to SureScripts Messenger™ Services by year’s end. The connectivity to pharmacies will not only allow physicians using Rcopia to electronically transmit new prescriptions, but will also enable them to expedite refills electronically, improving the current inefficient process of phoning and faxing. Specifically, in Massachusetts over 65 percent of the retail pharmacies will be connected, trained, and actively using SureScripts Messenger Services by the end of 2003.

Additionally, Rcopia has the unique capability of connecting to health plan pharmacy benefit managers through its partnership with RxHub. DrFirst has completed certification to incorporate RxHub’s medication prescribing technology (RxHub PRN™ and RxHub SIG™) which improves patient safety through the availability of the patients’ medication history and streamlines medication prescribing by providing patient-specific drug benefit information. This functionality enables physicians to make informed prescribing decisions at the point of care.

Rcopia operates on multiple platforms, such as PDAs, desktop, laptop and tablet personal computers, allowing for physicians to create legible prescriptions quickly and accurately from pick lists and remembering patientsÂ’ medication dosage/interval and pharmacy of choice. With RcopiaÂ’s offline capabilities on the PDA, physicians can write prescriptions for all patients in their practices whether or not theyÂ’re connected to the Internet. In addition, staff efficiency can be increased due to less administrative phone calls and faxes, since prescription and refill requests are accepted directly from and sent to pharmacy computer systems. All of these factors then allow for Rcopia to enhance patient safety and reduce costs with the goal of benefiting patients, physicians, pharmacies and health plans.

“Rcopia has the unique ability to offer physicians flexibility,” said Peter Kaufman, Chief Medical Office, DrFirst. “Rcopia’s secure Web site can be accessed anywhere using a Web browser and operates on multiple platforms, so doctors have a choice of devices for electronic prescribing. Prescriptions are checked for everything from allergy and drug interactions to formulary compliance, improving overall the practice of medicine and enhancing patient safety and quality of care.”

“Rcopia is designed as a network that is open to other electronic systems while still maintaining security,” said John F. Bartos, Jr., president of DrFirst. “An open architecture, allowing disparate systems to talk with one another, is critical to success in electronic medicine. This project will encourage other vendors to lower the barriers to one another.”

Use of an electronic prescribing system could help cut medication errors significantly, according to the Institute for Safe Medication Practices. Illegible prescriptions and confusion caused by similar sounding drug names are not uncommon. It is estimated that medication errors alone contribute to more than 7,000 deaths annually.

Housing Bubble vs. Education Bubble Speculation

Housing Bubble vs. Education Bubble Speculation

Dr. Eliza Luck, senior visiting fellow at the Sy Institute of Economic Research, has been preparing a study examining the cost of living versus college tuition. According to the study, there is a far greater worry than a housing bubble, it is the education bubble.

New York, NY (PRWEB) August 26, 2005

Dr. Eliza Luck, senior visiting fellow at the Sy Institute of Economic Research, has been preparing a study examining the cost of living versus college tuition. According to the study, there is a far greater worry than a housing bubble, it is the education bubble.

Housing costs for the last few years have risen dramatically. Last year many American cities saw home prices appreciate over 30 percent in just one year. In the last several months, there has been widespread media attention focused on when the housing market will crash. It is expected that housing market will crash in much the same way that the NASDAQ did in 2001 after extensive speculation from inexperienced investors. Economists have been quoted to say that prices for homes in America have risen far above the actual worth of the properties, that the prices are not sustainable, and that the prices are been driven by speculators and low interest rates.

Based on their arguments for a housing bubble, the same should be said for an education bubble on college tuitions today. Tuition prices have steadily been on the rise for well over a decade, at a pace of about 10 percent annually. Tuition prices at many universities have eclipsed the starting salaries of an average college graduate. For the last few years, the starting salaries of college graduates have hovered around $32,000. The cost of tuition is exorbitant, yet no one has labeled that a bubble. Families pay tuition the same way they pay their rent or mortgage a payment, blindly believing that it is an investment and a necessity.

There are other portions of our economy that are driving up the cost of living across the board for all Americans. Health care costs have risen at a rate well above inflation, so has gasoline. Instead of turning all of our attention to the coming housing crisis, perhaps we should ask the American media to concentrate its efforts elsewhere, such as the coming education bubble.

Charlotte, N. C. -- Morehead, the human capital research firm, will host a webinar titled "Predicting an Organization's Vulnerability to Unionization." The free hour-long webinar will be broadcast on Thursday, April 9, 2009 at 1:00 p. m. EST.

Participants will learn about the specific issues organizations can address to reduce the likelihood of a unionized workforce.

The webcast includes analyses of union vulnerability conducted for an academic and teaching hospital in the South and a faith-based community hospital in the Northeast. These case studies will answer questions critical to any organization:
What factors drive union activity? How can we predict the likelihood of union formation? What can we focus on to reduce the chance of unionization?

Press Release -- For Immediate Release

Suggested Publication Date: 11/17/00

The Day After The Smokeout: The Next Step for Those Who Quit Yesterday

As the smoke clears after yesterday's Smokeout, some who quit yesterday

Will feel increasingly positive about their lives today as they grit their

Teeth and remain smoke-free. A much larger percentage of yesterday's

Quitters will have lit up by their first coffee this morning. As an

Ex-smoker and as someone who has been researching smoking cessation products

And techniques for the last 20 years, I offer food for thought here to both

Groups.

I know that stopping smoking can be tough. It took me ten years after I

Decided I wanted to quit to let it go for the last time. I was one of those

Who was obsessed with both feeling I had to smoke and with wanting to quit.

More than once, I tore up cigarettes and threw them away, only to go and

Re-assemble one hours later so that I could get my fix. I later learned

That lots of smokers have done just the same thing.

Were you one of the thousands of Americans who quit smoking yesterday as

Part of the American Cancer Society's Great American Smokeout? If so, and

If you're not puffing away already, let me offer my congratulations. You've

Accomplished something worthwhile. Now go out and get some real exercise

Today. Drink plenty of water. Put a smile on your face. Treat your loved

Ones and yourself with kindness. If it'll help to tote around a pillow to

Scream into, by all means, vent that way. It's a lot more productive than

Yelling at your kids for no reason.

And look at those cravings you'll get for a little while as symptoms of

Healing. That is really what they are. Also remember that there is no such

Thing as "just one". It didn't work with those potato chips and it doesn't

Work for ex-smokers.

One more thing: Recognize that its worth exchanging a little short-term

Discomfort a longer, happier, healthier life.

If you are one of those who quit and has started smoking again, the best

Thing you can do for yourself this morning is to pick yourself up, dust

Yourself off, and move on with your life. Recognize that you made an

Attempt. Know that that took some courage. Then ask yourself this

Question: "What did I learn that will help me get it right the next time?"

The simplest lesson may be this: If you have tried specific things in the

Past, and those things haven't worked, try something different. The main

Reason that only 8% of quitters manage a full year being smoke-free is that

They're usually just repeating the use all the antiquated methods and products that

They already know do not work. I did it, too, for years. And the power of

Will is, by itself, never enough.

If you're chronically depressed, get some help for that first, before you

Try quitting again. It's as simple as this: many smokers who want to quit

Are depressed. If the problem is chronic and they don't get help for it,

They will quickly relapse after any quit attempt.

If you haven't prepared to stop smoking, it is much tougher to make it

Last. My clients generally spend at least a month in making small changes

To their lifestyle habits before quitting. If you try to do too much too

Quickly, you'll end up not doing anything at all. The real cornerstone to

Quitting is learning how to trust yourself in areas that may not seem to

Have anything to do with smoking. One way to do that is making short daily

Lists of things you intend to do, then checking them off as you complete

Them. That's a great way of rebuilding your self-reputation.

Probably the most important factor for short-term success is learning how

To effectively handle stress and emotional turmoil. Building up the amount

Of time you devote to exercise and self-discovery are keys to long-term

Success. I recommend taking small steps in experimenting with stress

Management practices such as deep breathing, self-massage and enjoyable

Exercise. Of course, it's easier for most smokers to laugh at these kinds

Of ideas than it is to actually see for themselves if they can work. The

Ego always laughs at or derides anything that would require a lifestyle

Change or truly experimenting with your life. Ego wants everything to stay

Just like it is now.

If you've just stopped smoking or if you've just started again, have some

Compassion for yourself today when you ask this question: "What small thing

Can I do for myself today that will make my life better?" And then tell

Your ego to shut up.

CarbonCopyPRO Member Ruslan Tesliavych Expands His Business

CarbonCopyPRO Member Ruslan Tesliavych Expands His Business

The internet marketing expert and online entrepreneur welcomes Donna Newby and Marc Ward to his high powered team.

Mississauga, Ontario (PRWEB) July 15, 2009

Ruslan Tesliavych, an internet marketing expert and online entrepreneur, has announced that Donna Newby and Marc Ward have joined his team as members of CarbonCopyPRO and as Wealth Masters International (WMI) financial consultants. CarbonCopyPRO is the leading edge organization that supports the WMI team.

"CarbonCopyPRO is a proven successful marketing system," Tesliavych said. "I made the right decision when joined the organization and Wealth Masters International because now I know how to build the life of my dream. I can create wealth and of course, stay healthy."

CarbonCopyPRO was founded by internet marketing legends and dynamically successful online entrepreneurs Jay Kubassek and Aaron Parkinson to automate the lead generation process for WMI consultants. The firm handles back office tasks such as website development and management, copywriting and content development, publicity and public relations, as well as call center operations, thereby freeing the consultant to focus on other, higher value activities such as building relationships and closing sales. The resulting stream of high quality, qualified leads helps WMI consultants to jump start their business and to realize explosive growth over time. The firm recently announced an emerging new focus as an entrepreneurial incubator, providing end-to-end training and development services for its members.

Tesliavych came to Canada from Ukraine in 1998. A mechanic by training, he has owned his own bricks and mortar business since 2005. But the flagging economy has caused him some problems and he decided to seek ways to streamline his income and to hedge it against the recession. "With CarbonCopyPRO, you can do business globally," Tesliavych said. "There is no recession for internet entrepreneurs." He went on to say that being an entrepreneur running an online business while earning a lucrative income from home is that best possible solution for financial independence today, far less expensive and far more secure than owning a franchise.

Wealth Masters International features a combination of world class education, services, and strategies along with proven consultants that have extensive, successful track records in their respective fields, who come together to help people effectively manage personal finances. The company's mission is to create success and wealth in others one person at a time.

"I'm pleased to welcome Donna and Marc to my team," Tesliavych said. "There are great things in store for us."

This is the first full garden system TGS has installed in the New York City Public School system. South Salem, NY (PRWEB) June 8, 2010

Teich Garden Systems LLC announced today the completion of a new garden system at PS 321 in Brooklyn, New York. This is the first full garden system TGS has installed in the New York City Public School system. TGS has previously supplied rolling garden beds to 9 NYC public schools as part of Out2Play’s school yard renovation program. The PS 321 garden was built directly on blacktop in the school yard.

For their first crop, students planted a variety of vegetables including some started from seed in their classrooms. Patty Intrator, a parent spearheading the garden project, said “We are excited about giving our students the opportunity to learn in such a hands-on way. It will be a wonderful enhancement to the curriculum for years to come. We are so grateful to the teachers, principal and parents who worked together to make this garden a reality. The students can't wait until this Friday when it will be announced which garden name won the school-wide election. I can only imagine how proud they will be when their fresh homemade salsa will be shared with the school community at the back-to-school potluck supper in September."

Yana Wagg, another parent leading the project, added “In the few days that the garden has been open, the children have been thrilled to plant and water the seeds and seedlings. The children are so proud to talk about their garden and are actually disappointed when it rains because they don't need to water! It is really a wonderful community building activity; more than a dozen families are signed up to water and harvest the garden over the summer. They plan to bring a portion of the harvest to a local soup kitchen."

Mark Teich, founder of TGS, noted, “We are proud to have brought our ‘Classroom in Every Garden’ to the students at PS 321. It shows how flexible our systems can be – we turned an urban school yard into a working garden that will provide a platform for learning about healthy food and teaching valuable lessons about sustainable lifestyles.”

Jazzman's Café Unveils First-Ever Bird Friendly Coffee from Africa

Jazzman's Café Unveils First-Ever Bird Friendly Coffee from Africa

Rich and flavorful coffee, double certified for sustainability, helps preserve forest habitat and brings the concepts of habitat preservation to Ethiopian coffee industry

Gaithersburg, MD (Vocus) September 17, 2008

Jazzman's® Café (http://www. jazzmanscafe. com/), the award-winning coffeehouse and bakery café from Sodexo's Retail Brand Group, unveiled today a Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center (SMBC), Bird Friendly® coffee blend (http://www. youtube. com/watch? v=Z8SALIvDmUA); the first-ever coffee from Africa to have such a distinction. Double certified for sustainability and sourced from the Anfilo Specialty Coffee Enterprises in Ethiopia, the rich and flavorful roast debuts nationally this month at the more than 200 Jazzman's Cafés.

This latest installment from the Jazzman's Noteworthy Coffees™ Series (http://www. jazzmanscafe. com/OurCoffee_Noteworthy. htm), a distinctive line of coffees featuring beans from farming cooperatives and communities around the world, was sourced from a cooperative established by African farmer Samson Guma. The cooperative gained its Bird Friendly® certification in 2008 and consists of 118 small scale farmers.

"Jazzman's Café (http://www. jazzmanscafe. com/), the Retail Brand Group (http://www. retailbrandgroup. com/) and Sodexo (http://www. sodexo. com/) are committed to sustainable development in agricultural communities around the world -- in fact, all of our coffees come from sustainable sources," said Erica Milios, director of brand development for Sodexo's Retail Brand Group. "Our purchase of this coffee makes it possible for the Anfilo farmers to continue their efforts to preserve forest habitat and also bring the concepts of habitat preservation and Bird Friendly® coffee to the Ethiopian coffee industry."

Speaking of the farmers efforts to gain certification, Samson Guma explains, "It has taken many years to get to this point, I am convinced that the solution is in producing a great tasting coffee in a sustainable way, and selling directly to buyers with a social and economic interest, will inevitably bring a greater return to the farmers and an appreciation to consumers. We are very pleased to have engaged in this relationship with Jazzman's Café."

Bird Friendly® certification was created in the late 1990s by the staff of the SMBC at the National Zoological Park in Washington, D. C. It is awarded to coffee farms that maintain shade cover to provide a substantial habitat for migratory and resident birds. Farmers forego conventional coffee growing methods of clearing the land of trees in order to maximize production.

"Coffee consumers can now rely on a science-based set of criteria defining shade coffee that truly brings 'coffee-as-habitat' into focus, says Robert Rice, geographer/policy researcher at the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center (http://nationalzoo. si. edu/ConservationAndScience/MigratoryBirds/Coffee/). "We're excited to have Sodexo and the Retail Brand Group involved in linking conservation to the marketplace."

Russia Reveals Renewed Commitment to Expand, Promote Biotechnology Sector

Russia Reveals Renewed Commitment to Expand, Promote Biotechnology Sector

Global Health Progress’ fact sheet summarizes country’s plan to improve access to drugs, increase pharmaceutical R&D investment and drive economic growth.

Washington, DC (PRWEB) October 2, 2010

Global Health Progress (GHP) released a new fact sheet highlighting Russia’s commitment to expanding and promoting its biotechnology sector. Although the biopharmaceutical sector in Russia is less developed than other markets, the sector is making progress by implementing public policies that support pharmaceutical research and development (R&D) for life-changing treatments, contribute high-quality, high wage jobs to the region and increase the number of clinical trials offered to the population to improve access to drugs and help reduce the overall burden of disease.

Currently, Russia accounts for approximately 0.5% of the world biotechnology market, two-thirds of which are biopharmaceuticals. In 2010, the value of the biopharmaceutical market in Russia was estimated to be approximately US $17.2 billion, compared with US $10.4 billion in 2006. According to analysts, the Russian market is predicted to expand at a compound annual growth rate of 8.3% over the next few years and approximately 53% of the biopharmaceuticals market in Russia is comprised of innovative medicines.
As part of a national 10-year plan to promote biotechnology, the government is enacting policies to strengthen Russia’s pharmaceutical research and development (R&D) areas that have been historically strong. For example, special economic zones will focus on attracting investors to commercialize biotechnology and related innovations. Additionally, the Russian government is investing in “bioparks,” R&D clusters of biotechnology and related sectors.

Russia is well-known for its highly skilled scientific workforce and the biopharmaceutical sector has emerged as an important source of high-quality, highly skilled jobs. As the presence of biopharmaceutical companies increases, so does the pool of highly skilled doctors, scientists and researchers. According to Burrill & Company, the biopharmaceutical sector currently employs approximately 12,000 people with the average salary for a PhD scientist in Russia approximately US $1,800.

Currently, Russia ranks 12 out of 25 in terms of active clinical trials with 1,084 sites with an average relative annual growth rate of 33%. However, as of February 2010, there were 304 medicines in development in Russia, making the country one of the fastest annual growth rates. The growth in share of global clinical trials can bring health benefits, including the diffusion of medical knowledge and effective medical practice, greater patient access to high quality care and improve access to drugs. Clinical trials can also help reduce the overall burden of disease on the Russian population.

Russia’s recognition that the biopharmaceutical sector has the potential to develop tomorrow’s medicines, improve the population’s access to drugs, create economic growth and help alleviate the population’s burden of disease is leading to robust investment and progress in the region. Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin emphasized this commitment, “We have allocated substantial resources for the development of such promising areas as nano-and biotechnology, nuclear energy, aerospace and other research.”

Please view full PDF for additional information and list of sources. For additional information on how pharmaceutical public-private partnerships, investment in research and development and improving access to drugs assists the biopharmaceutical market’s global expansion, please visit Global Health Progress.

Swanson Health Products' Customers Review Top Rated Products

Swanson Health Products' Customers Review Top Rated Products

Swanson Health Products has taken the guess work out of product research by posting user-generated content in the form of ratings and reviews.

Fargo, ND (Vocus) December 17, 2009

Typically, online shopping is a solitary activity. One mouse, one keyboard and one set of eyes looking for the perfect purchase. It’s easy to forget how many people visit the same sites, purchase the same products and have valuable opinions about their experiences. Swanson Health Products has taken the guess work out of product research by posting user-generated content in the form of ratings and reviews (http://www. swansonvitamins. com/lnd/CustomerReviewGuide. html? SourceCode=INTN063).

“We post reviews as a service to our customers. It helps them decide if a product would be a good fit for them. If others have had success with a particular item, they’re more inclined to purchase it for themselves. ON Networks Salutes Comic Books, Films & Geek Culture with New Internet TV Show Bif! Bam! Pow! Wow!

Hipper than a speeding bullet, more irreverent than a locomotive and able to leap tall buildings with a single quip, Internet TV show Bif! Bam! Pow! Wow! (www. bifbampowwow. tv) makes its virtual debut via ON Networks. The new program celebrates and critically reviews all that geek culture holds dear: comic books, graphic novels, movies, action figures, video games and even the occasional fantasy babe.

AUSTIN, Texas (PRWEB) September 6, 2007

Bif! Bam! is hosted by Tom Seymour, a quirky Chicago comic book store manager who offers a behind-the-counter report filled with news and reviews for anyone interested in comics, superheroes, sci-fi or pop culture. Seymour takes on the role of tastemaker as he doles out his unsolicited opinions on comics and collectibles in spirited monologues, rants, and informed "Picks and Pans" segments. He is aided by fun graphics and sound effects alongside a motley crew of sidekicks, man-on-the-street interviews and occasional guest appearances.

"Bif! Bam! Pow! Wow! offers viewers a virtual tour through the Land of Geekdom, with something for everyone - from comic book aficionados to pop culture neophytes," says producer John Champion. "The show also serves as a showcase for Tom's quirky personality and unique insider perspective."

Recent episodes include a Batman-themed trip down memory lane, in which Seymour takes on the past, present and future of the Dark Knight, and a Spiderman-themed extravaganza, in which Seymour rates the best and worst Spidey comics, critiques the wall crawler's costumes over the years, and interviews Marvel Comics artist Skottie Young.

Future episodes will feature such topics as "The Simpsons," "A Hulk By Any Other Color" and "Star Trek: A New Frontier?" as well as exclusive interviews with the likes of Eugene Roddenberry, Richard Hatch, Will Wheaton and more.

Bif! Bam! Pow! Wow! is part of ON Networks' collection of smart, short-form entertainment that can be watched anytime, anywhere and on any device. McDonalds Introduces a Digital Flavor at its Outlets in Philippines

McDonalds Introduces a Digital Flavor at its Outlets in Philippines

McDonalds joins the booming multimedia savvy corporations all over the world who have embraced the power of Scala’s visual communications in the current era of technology.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (PRWEB) September 14, 2006

Patrons of McDonalds in Philippines are enjoying a new taste at its outlets; the taste of dynamic digital signage. McDonalds joins the booming multimedia savvy corporations all over the world who have embraced the power of Scala’s visual communications in the current era of technology.

Implemented and managed by Globaltronics Inc.; a pioneering provider of Digital Media Management Services and Systems, the concept behind the McDonalds digital signage network was to enhance the store experience and strengthen McDonald’s branding exercise by keeping customers informed, entertained and educated with visually rich content. The signage network was also aimed to enhance the customer shopping experience in addition to ensuring a focused message is delivered to its intended audience.

Powered by the Scala InfoChannel®, McDonalds’ digital signage network runs in most of its outlets spanning across the Philippines archipelago from Metro-Manila to Cebu and Davao City. Geographically, Globaltronics also covers outlets from Central Luzon down to the Visayas and Mindanao islands.

Most of the fast food outlets are equipped with a 42” plasma screen (several locations have two screens installed) positioned mainly at or near the counters in the store and driven by one Scala InfoChannel Player. Currently the Scala InfoChannel is deployed in 32 locations with another 118 locations to be deployed by the first quarter of 2007.

The digital content for all locations is developed and managed by Globaltronics, and remotely controlled from the Globaltronics Network Operations Center (NOC). The content is updated on an average of twice a week or as frequent as necessary for the entire network, selected outlets or sometimes specific individual outlets.

The visually arresting and media rich content includes McDonalds’ marketing and product collaterals, product promotions, video commercials and special announcements. Further revenue is generated from the sales of advertising space to McDonald’s business partners as well as 3rd party advertisers.

The management and control of the digital signage network is supported by an infrastructure comprising a proxy server installed at McDonalds’ main server that is used to distribute the content on McDonalds’ WAN system. A 256Kbps VPN connection links the Globaltronics NOC with the proxy server at McDonalds’ headquarters.

Globaltronics selected the Scala Infochannel suite as the preferred tool-of-choice for the digital signage network mainly because of its network management capabilities and the versatility of the display output in addition to its ease of implementation and operations.

Said Mr. Val Munoz, the General Manager of Globaltronics, “We benefited a lot from the capabilities of Scala InfoChannel Designer and the Network Manager features. We are looking forward indeed to the feature upgrades and capabilities of InfoChannel 5.” Globaltronics’ success with the McDonalds digital signage network represents a fresh new era of visual communications in Philippines that will likely break the norm of conventional advertising media.

The McDonalds project in Philippines was undertaken by Globaltronics with technical and professional consultancy support provided by Click Grafix Sdn Bhd, the Scala Certified distributor and system integrator in the region.

Mr. Val Munoz ends with this statement, “A great product that is perfectly complemented by a great dealer. Globaltronics was faced with a tight conversion schedule, as we had to shift from the proprietary software to Scala for all the McDonald's installations, literally overnight. InfoChannel’s outstanding features, combined with excellent support from Click Grafix, made the transition seamless. The after-sales support has also always been prompt and reliable. It is also a very reassuring thought that we have direct access to Click's director/founder. We are very pleased with our relationship with Click Grafix”.

Inspiration, Patient Empowerment Hallmarks of Top Healthcare Toolkit

Inspiration, Patient Empowerment Hallmarks of Top Healthcare Toolkit

Manasquan, NJ (PRWEB) October 11, 2005

A patient navigation kit accented with artwork and writings by breast cancer survivors took top honors in the first annual Healthcare Toolkits contest sponsored by the Healthcare Intelligence Network (HIN).

The MyHealth, MyJourney™ breast cancer post-diagnosis toolkit developed by The Eden Communications Group of Maplewood, N. J. for Pfizer Oncology was awarded first prize among nearly 60 print, web-based and multi-media healthcare toolkits submitted by health plans, hospitals and employers. For a look at the top three winning entries, please visit http://www. hin. com/contests/toolkit_winners. html (http://www. hin. com/contests/toolkit_winners. html).

“In developing the kit, we wanted to send a message of empowerment, encouragement and support to breast cancer patients, and help them get over the shock of the diagnosis,” said Tori Fahrney, Eden’s director of client services, who coordinated the effort with Pfizer Oncology. “It is especially fitting to receive this award in October, which is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month,” she added.

To determine the needs of breast cancer patients and develop a new and innovative approach to patient information, the team enlisted the aid of several breast cancer patient advocacy groups and the Oncology Nursing Society. “We wanted to empower patients to make very important decisions about their treatment. In order to do this, patients must be knowledgeable, and willing to question their doctors.”

The first-place entry includes a personal journal and portfolios to organize paperwork, medical results and financial and insurance forms. The toolkit also contains a spiral-bound treatment planner that explains treatment options, side effects and related medical terms and provides a place for the patient to note caregivers’ responses to questions, track medications, and record contact information. Photography, artwork, poetry and quotations from breast cancer survivors play a prominent role in the toolkit’s design and text. The artwork originated at The Creative Center, a network of New York City artists composed of cancer patients and survivors, trustees, donors and friends.

Second place was awarded to PacifiCare® Behavioral Health for its Treatment Plan Toolkit, an information kit for persons hospitalized for mental health disorders that was submitted by Christy Beaudin, corporate director, quality improvement. The third-place winner was Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan for the Domestic Violence educational toolkit that the company distributes to healthcare providers, which was submitted by Shoma Pal, project leader. For more details on the winning entries, please visit http://www. hin. com/contests/toolkit_winners. html (http://www. hin. com/contests/toolkit_winners. html).

Melanie Matthews, HIN’s executive vice president and chief executive officer, launched the toolkits contest after noting an upswing in toolkit use across the healthcare industry. “Whether they are in print or electronic format or a combination, toolkits are educational tools whose time has come,” said Ms. Matthews. “Consumers who have information change their behavior.” Matthews predicts that healthcare toolkits will proliferate as the concept of consumer-driven healthcare---empowering and motivating consumers to take control of their health and healthcare care---takes hold. HIN plans to make the contest an annual event and recently completed a special report on the topic, Healthcare Toolkits: Empowering Consumers Through Education. For more information, please visit http://www. hin. com/cgi-local/link/news/pl. cgi? tkcontestpr (http://www. hin. com/cgi-local/link/news/pl. cgi? tkcontestpr).

The HIN contest judges, who represented New Jersey-based health plans, hospitals and marketing communications firms, gave the first-place kit high marks for its visual appeal, organization and sensitive treatment of a difficult subject. “(This toolkit) includes great artwork and visuals, and addressed an important issue in a tasteful and empathetic fashion,” according to Dr. Eric Berman, a vice president and medical director of AmeriGroup New Jersey Inc. Kristine Brown, director of public relations at St. Barnabas Health Care System in Toms River; Dave Francis, a partner in BlueWater Communications Inc. in Lakewood; Adrienne Turner, account executive, The DEVON Group, Shrewsbury; and Peter Weissberg from CPR Strategic Marketing client services in Elmwood Park also judged the contest.
