Non-Toxic Head Lice Prevention for All Ages and Hair Types

Non-Toxic Head Lice Prevention for All Ages and Hair Types

Lousey Nitpickers®, LLC introduces their new Botanical Defense System™. A complete line of botanically based, non-toxic, paraben-free, sulfate-free products designed to aid in the physical removal of head lice and their eggs while natural, botanical oils protect against future head lice infestations.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) September 26, 2008

Lousey Nitpickers®, LLC is pleased to announce the introduction of their new Botanical Defense System (http://www. louseynitpickers. com/products. html)™. A complete line of botanically based, non-toxic, paraben-free, sulfate-free products designed to aid in the physical removal of head lice and their eggs while natural, botanical oils protect against future head lice infestations.

"The greatest harm associated with head lice results from the well-intentioned but misguided use of caustic or toxic substances to eliminate the lice," said Richard J. Pollack, PhD, Harvard School of Public Health.

According to the American Head Lice Information Center, "The makers of pediculicides (the chemicals used to treat head lice) take in over $150 million a year from assorted insecticidal louse shampoos, crème rinses, and sprays. Any chemical that kills pests is a pesticide, and all pesticides have the potential to cause serious side effects."

The California State Health Department states that lindane (a potent pesticide used in the treatment of head lice) has contaminated California sewers and water supplies (A single treatment of lindane can pollute 6 million gallons of water). In addition, such pesticides have been shown to damage the liver, kidney, nervous system and immune system prompting the State of California to ban the use of this substance.

Infused with Neem, Tea Tree, and Andiroba oils, Lousey Nitpickers Botanical Defense System offers daily protection against head lice. Bee Propolis soothes irritation and helps speed healing. Lousey Nitpickers Botanical Defense System is gentle enough for all ages and hair types.

About Lousey Nitpickers:
Combining over thirty years experience in head lice removal and product development, the founders of Lousey Nitpickers set out to create a company unique in its commitment to safety, honesty, service, and results. This has resulted in National recognition of Lousey Nitpickers in publications such as The Wall Street Journal (http://www. louseynitpickers. com/images/WSJ. html), Los Angeles Times (http://louseynitpickers. com/images/LA%20Times%202%20Pages. jpg), and Orange Country Register (http://louseynitpickers. com/images/OC%20Register. jpg). Lousey Nitpickers' safe, effective, non-toxic services and Botanical Defense System offer guaranteed results without the risk.

Oconomowoc SummerFestival Finalizes Schedule of Events

Oconomowoc SummerFestival Finalizes Schedule of Events

Oconomowoc SummerFestival 2010 on August 14th from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM finalizes their Schedule of Events. Operation KidsSafe, a judged classic car show, Old World Wisconsin Tornado Relief Fund, Coast Guard demonstrations and live entertainment are highlights of this year's events.

Oconomowoc, WI (PRWEB) August 12, 2010

Oconomowoc SummerFestival 2010 on August 14th from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM finalizes their Schedule of Events. Operation KidsSafe, a judged classic car show, Old World Wisconsin Tornado Relief Fund, Coast Guard demonstrations and live entertainment are highlights of this year's events.

"We're so excited about this year's Festival as we have more than 50 events planned; there is literally something for everyone," said Laurel Whelan, Executive Director of the Oconomowoc Association, "The best of Downtown Oconomowoc will be showcased and we will focus on child safety and fun during this event."

Operation KidSafe captures a child's picture and fingerprints using a digital video capture device, digital ink-less fingerprint capture device and specialized software. The captured data is assembled and a quality 8 ½ x 11" printout is given to the parent. The parent can use the printout to provide to law enforcement anywhere in the world. No database is maintained so only the parent has this information. The Downtown Oconomowoc Merchants Association (DOMA) is organizing this event and it will be FREE for every child that participates.

"We'd also like to thank our sponsors: First Bank Financial Centre, ProHealth Care, Isabella's Children Fashions, Cornerstone Pub and Eatery, Amalia's Family Restaurant, and Dr. Leman, Setnicar & Piacsek, S. C. whose support allows us to offer this as a FREE service to local families," Whelan continued.

While waiting to have their Operation KidSafe identification recorded, children will be delighted to meet "Coastie" from the U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. "Coastie" is the "talking" Coast Guard Boat. The Coast Guard will also have its public relations trailer at the event.

"Our goal is to spread the message of Safety on the Water whenever possible. This allows us to send the safety message to both children and their parents," said Jack Myers, Flotilla Staff Officer-Dealer Visitor Program.

Donations to the Old World Wisconsin's Tornado Fund will also be collected during the downtown event. The Eagle tornado damaged several historic buildings, knocked down thousands of feet of fences and felled 2,500 trees at Old World Wisconsin. The museum was closed for five weeks following the tornado. Although operations have resumed, the landscape looks drastically different. "We're learning that insurance won't pay for everything," said Dawn St. George, museum director. "We will certainly need [the OWW Tornado Relief Fund] to get back up and running."

There will also be many other free activities that are also part of the Oconomowoc SummerFestival 2010 including: the Avenue Art Faire, Coast Guard Demonstrations, In-House Specials, Classic Car Show, Specialty Food Booths, Interactive entertainment for all ages, DJ & live music on two stages and, much more.

Cleveland Cavaliers Renew CrowdWave for Three Years Following Successful Playoff Launch

Cleveland Cavaliers Renew CrowdWave for Three Years Following Successful Playoff Launch

After a highly successful playoff launch, Cavaliers extend CrowdWave interactive game system contract at Quicken Loans Arena for three more seasons.

Cleveland, OH/Ottawa, ON Canada (Vocus/PRWEB) December 14, 2010

The Cleveland Cavaliers and CrowdWave are proud to announce a three season extension of their agreement for CrowdWave's interactive game system and “Vision Interactive”™ technology. CrowdWave debuted at Quicken Loans Arena for the Cavaliers’ playoff run in April 2010, providing Cavs fans with mass-participation, crowd-controlled games and polls. Cleveland's decision to renew was a direct result of CrowdWave’s popularity with fans during the playoffs and in the early part of this season.

“Our fans deserve the best entertainment around and we feel CrowdWave is on the cutting edge of interactivity and entertainment,” said Amanda Greco, Cavaliers director of game presentation. “We are excited to continue what is definitely a winning partnership between the Cavs and CrowdWave.”

The Cavaliers CrowdWave lineup will include two new games this season, adding to last year’s selection of trivia and polls:
“Let’s Move It!”, a dance game named after the Cleveland Clinic’s health campaign that tests the audience’s reaction, timing and dance skills. CrowdWave incorporates one of the Clinic’s iconic black line characters from the campaign and, at a deeper level, reinforces the central campaign message of wellness through physical activity.

“Arby’s Fast Break”, a side-scrolling race featuring Arby’s characters that will pit three sections of fans against each other driving the action by the intensity of their waving.

For Mark Edwards, President of CrowdWave, the long-term agreement with the Cavaliers clearly signals the success of the CrowdWave game system in delivering on its two key objectives – to enhance the gameday experience and to drive premium sponsorship revenue. “CrowdWave builds on that unique live-event experience, getting fans in the game, working together or competing against each other, giving them another strong reason to buy a ticket. We build the sponsor’s product and message into that experience from the start, to engage fans with the brand in a way that doesn’t take away from the fun, giving the Cavaliers a premium source of sponsorship revenue.” The agreement also confirms that CrowdWave will continue to work with its first professional client and enjoy the support and enthusiasm of the Cavs incredible gameday and creative team. “We’re thrilled that CrowdWave has delivered value to Cleveland fans and sponsors and look forward to working with the Cavs for another three seasons.”

About CrowdWave
CrowdWave’s game system and Vision Interactive™ technology analyzes the direction, intensity and timing of a crowd’s movement, as a whole or section by section, to control on-screen events – to play a game, answer a poll or make a choice. CrowdWave turns every fan into a human controller, enabling them to work together or to compete against each other, providing professional and collegiate sports teams and their sponsors with a powerful opportunity to engage fans interactively. Integrated into the CrowdWave offering is the ability for teams to measure the audience experience from pre-event through building cleanup, a sports industry first.

CrowdWave® is a division of Bent 360: MediaLab Inc., a branded entertainment technology company located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Scrub-a-dub-dub Be Gentle when you Rub

Scrub-a-dub-dub Be Gentle when you Rub...

Reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and decrease the visible signs of premature aging, without the expense of spa or salon treatments.

(PRWEB) June 5, 2003

Tearoses. com gets many skincare related questions each week. One recent e-mail asked, "Dear Elisabeth, should we exfoliate or have skin-peels when our complexion becomes thin with age?" Laura (not her real name) wanted to know if exfoliation or peels make the skin even thinner, more fragile, and prone to wrinkles.

This is an important question. Certain people should not exfoliate or have skin peels, unless they are prescribed or performed by their medical doctor or dermatologist. These include, but are not limited to: individuals suffering from rosacea, pustuler or cystic acne, cuts, bruises, open sores, wounds, oozing, bleeding, eczema, dermatitis, rashes, psoriasis, active cold sores, warts, moles, scars, lesions, or any other skin condition. Other contraindications are people who are pregnant, nursing, or have a medical condition including, but not limited to: diabetes, skin cancer, port wine stains, broken capillaries, vitiligo, pigmentation problems, lupus, or those taking certain medications such as oral blood thinners. In addition, those who have very dry, thin, or fragile skin should not exfoliate, or have skin peels. As always, your doctor can advise you.

Individuals in good general health, whose skin is not compromised, or at risk, can benefit from skin resurfacing procedures such as exfoliation or skin peels. These procedures, when done correctly, can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, diminish brown spots as well as improve skin surface texture and tone. They will not remove all facial flaws or prevent aging.

It is important to understand that exfoliation or skin peels should be done on an "as needed" basis; when skin looks dull or congested and needs to be revitalized. People who over-exfoliate, use harsh skin care products, or constantly get peels are simply irritating and inflaming their skin. This leads to redness, sensitivity, breakouts, and possible scarring. Some research has linked chronic or long-term skin irritation to premature aging.

When you work in the beauty industry you hear a lot of stories. One of my favorite tales concerns a famous 1940's movie star. This glamour girl was in the habit of rubbing her facial skin raw every night. She believed that vigorously scrubbing with a wet washcloth would preserve her looks. Each morning when she reported to the studio, a team of exasperated Hollywood makeup artists and technicians would need to camouflage the damage she did to her skin. They used a combination of heavy cosmetics and special lighting to give her the flawless look she portrayed in movies and publicity photos.

As you can see, skin can be irritated, inflamed, over-exfoliated, or simply rubbed raw from any number of products or techniques. Using one or more harsh, drying, or acidic skin care products, recipes, ingredients and/or techniques may cause redness, sensitivity and irritation. These products include, but are not limited to: soap, alpha, beta, or poly hydroxy acid, salicylic acid, Vitamin C in the form of ascorbic acid, benzoyl peroxide, scrubs, grains, peels, wash cloths, facial brushing or microdermabrasion.

You probably don't have the luxury of a personal makeup artist or studio lights, and irritating your skin till it's red or raw is never a good idea. It doesn't preserve youth and beauty; it just makes you look like you have a rash. The moral of the story is: be gentle with your skin; exfoliate or have peels only when your skin needs it. Make your complexion appear soft and luminous, not red or angry looking.

New York, NY (Vocus) February 24, 2010

Good answers regarding tough financial questions are hard to come by in this economic downturn, but on Saturday February 20, 2010, SBLI USA Mutual Life Insurance Company, Inc. (https://www. sbliusa. com/), along with Carver Federal Savings Bank (https://www. carverbank. com/home/home) and Fidelity Investments (https://www. fidelity. com/), helped provide them. As the sponsors of a free financial education seminar entitled Your Money and You, these community-focused companies gathered together some of the best financial minds in New York at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture. The seminar was open to the public and featured an expert panel moderated by Errol Louis, columnist at the New York Daily News and WWRL radio host, keynote speaker Jonathan Mintz, Commissioner of the Department of Consumer Affairs, and honorary guest Congressman Charles B. Rangel (D).

"New Yorkers should know that the public and private sectors are working hard to connect them to resources to help them not just get through these tough economic times, but also put them in a position to succeed once this current crisis is over," said Congressman Rangel. "Whether it’s getting extra money in your pocket now through tax credits like the Earned Income Tax Credit or in the future through programs like Department of Consumer Affairs' SAVENYC, there are a variety of ways in which people can get the extra help that they need."

The expert panel featured Demetric Duckett, vice president and community finance officer at Carver Community Development Corporation, Marquis Miller, vice president of business development at SBLI USA Mutual Life Insurance Company, Inc., Carlos Rodriguez, vice president of agency relations and program at the Food Bank for New York City, and Carol O’Rourke, executive director at the Coalition for Debtor Education. These financial experts engaged one and other, as well as audience members, in conversations surrounding credit and money management, the best ways to plan for your family during an economic downturn, suggestions on how to take advantage of earned income tax credits, and ways to use community and civic resources to make the most of your finances.

SBLI USA Mutual Life Insurance Company, Inc. is New York City based and has served the people who make America work for over 71 years. “I am honored to live in a country where there is public interest in the financial health of everyone,” said SBLI USA president & CEO Vikki Pryor. “This event really illustrates the crux of SBLI USA’s mission, which is to get all people working together toward the financial empowerment of all Americans.”

Maria Nieves, director of public affairs for Fidelity Investments said “Fidelity is pleased to support an event that brings experts on savings, credit and investing to the public. Wide Ranging World Map released and available for Earth Day. First and only environmental wall map for the classroom and home school students

Wide Ranging World Map released and available for Earth Day. First and only environmental wall map for the classroom and home school students

The Exploration Company (http://www. theexplorationcompany. com) has released the Wide Ranging World Map, featuring ecological and cultural details never before shown in a world wall map. Its initial market-testing over, the mapÂ’s wide-release is made to coincide with Earth Day, on April 22nd.

(PRWEB) April 12, 2002

Breaking with tradition, this map replaces elevation with the rendition of terrain (deserts, forests, savanna). In addition to displaying all countries, active border disputes and key cities, the map notes cultural regions (Kashmir, Scotland, Transylvania) and prominent indigenous nations (Kurds, Palestinians, Inuit).

Daniel Rirdan, Director of The Exploration Company and producer of the map, explained, “If conventional political maps are the story of governments, the Wide Ranging World Map is the story of the people and the earth. People will not remember the actual extent of rainforest destruction or names of indigenous nations that make up Indonesia. But it matters not. By the sheer inclusion of these features on a map, they acquire a reality in people’s eyes.”

Chris Durbin, the Formal Geography Advisor for BBC Education, stated that the map is “one of the best I have seen. I would without hesitation recommend it. Pupils were drawn to it like a magnet.”

The map has already made its way to Marcellus High School in Michigan. The school’s social studies teacher commented, “The kids are looking at the map all the time. They think that it’s really ‘cool’.”

The map indicates population density and where natural vegetation has been replaced with cropland, along with marine pollution, radioactive contamination, and destroyed rainforests. This is the first time any of these features has been shown on a wall map of the world.

The map has also been of keen interest to environmental organizations. Foremost are The Rainforest Site and Earth Day Network.

Greg Hesterberg, co-owner and President of The Rainforest Site (www. therainforestsite. com), commented, "The Rainforest Site, in partnership with Earth Day Network, is proud to offer this eye-opening map to those interested in the health of the planet, and the reality of environmental issues. It offers a powerful view of the world that you can't get elsewhere, educating viewers and encouraging them to take action to protect our shared home." The Rainforest site is one of the WebÂ’s leading activism sites, dedicated to the preservation of rainforest land.

The map comes in a number of sizes and prices, ranging from $15.95 (40” x 27”) to $132 (60” x 37,” on a spring roller, for schools) and is available for purchase at www. theexplorationcompany. com, select teacher-supply stores (Learning is Fun), nature stores (The Nature of Things), and map stores nationwide.

AP9 24ProtectPlus Reminds Pet Owners About Proper Care During Summer Months

AP9 24ProtectPlus Reminds Pet Owners About Proper Care During Summer Months

AP9 24ProtectPlus Shares Money-Saving Strategies for Pet Care Needs

Norwalk, Conn. (PRWEB) June 4, 2006

The dog days of summer are here, and that means extra-special care for Fluffy and Fido when the mercury rises. Adaptive Marketing LLC’s membership discount program AP9 24ProtectPlus (http://www.24protectplus-program. com/) advises pet owners to keep an eye on the furry and feathered friends to prevent injury and stress during heat waves.

AP9 24ProtectPlus helps members protect and safeguard the things that matter most – their family, home, pets and personal belongings. With access to discounts on automotive assistance, credit reports, pet supplies and home improvement, AP9 24ProtectPlus members enjoy peace of mind while stretching those summer budgets a little further. It’s easy to save when members can simply log on to DealPass (http://www. dealpass. com) and access discounts on credit monitoring, identity theft expense reimbursement and financial services.

AP9 24ProtectPlus (http://www.24protectplus-program. com/) provides these tips for ensuring that pets stay healthy and comfortable during the summer months.

-- Provide clean, fresh water at all times, both in the home and in the yard. Clean the water bowl or dispenser often, and change water daily.

-- Shade and shelter from the sun will keep pets comfortable. If pets are kept in a kennel or crate for any period of time, be sure that air can circulate adequately. Freeze a gallon milk container, and place it in a large cage or cool spot in the yard for the dog, cat or small animal to lay next to for added cooling.

-- Avoid exercise during the hottest times of the day. Early morning and evening times are cooler.

-- Hard plastic baby pools are a fun way for most dogs to cool off — and get clean.

-- No matter how short the errand, never leave a pet in a parked vehicle. Even a few minutes can be detrimental to a pet’s health and provoke heat stress.

-- Insect bites and stings can be painful and cause allergic reactions. Check pets after walks and outdoor playtime for fleas, ticks and other harmful bugs native to the local area. Ask a veterinarian about preventative methods that are pet-safe.

-- Make sure that all vaccinations are up-to-date.

-- When planning to vacation with a pet, call ahead to make sure the hotel or rental home accepts pets. Pack along your pet’s usual food, medications and favorite toys. Bring a photo of your pets, and write down identification information in case they get lost. Keep collars and tags on at all times.

-- If using a pet sitter or boarding a pet while vacationing, be sure to leave all veterinary, medication and feeding instructions as well as emergency contact information. Find out how often the sitter visits, cleans cages and exercises pets.

Members enjoy both savings benefits and safeguards on the things they value most at and away from home with AP9 24ProtectPlus.

HISPANIC WOMEN UNITE TO CREATE ACQUA COMMUNICATIONS

HISPANIC WOMEN UNITE TO CREATE ACQUA COMMUNICATIONS

THE NEW COMMUNICATIONS AND PUBLIC RELATIONS AGENCY FOCUSES IN LATIN AMERICA AND THE US HISPANIC MARKET

(PRWEB) October 17, 2002

Miami, October 15, 2002. – Acqua Communications, the newest alternative in the marketing and communications industry, celebrated its launch last Wednesday in an exclusive reception in Miami Beach with clients, personalities and friends, to commemorate the accomplishments obtained in the short time period since it began operations.

Acqua Communications, created and integrated by a team of women who united its years of experience within the different areas of communications, is what is known today as a “Boutique Agency”: A company that focuses and designs strategies based on its clients’ needs (low costs, experience, timely delivery, commitment, and measurable results), and more importantly, promotes personalized attention and customer satisfaction. Acqua Communications’ team is embodied by journalists, television producers, event coordinators, and marketing and promotions experts, among others.

“Communications and branding have been around for ages, but at Acqua Communications we see it differently”, said Priscilla Colón, President and COO of the Miami based company. “The name, Acqua, transmits the company’s concept: clear strategies, refreshing approach to communications, transparent messages, and ideas as deep as the ocean”.

Acqua Communications began operations four months ago, and in such a small time frame has successfully secured important clients and developed large scale projects that have begun to leave a blueprint within the marketing and communications industry.

In less than a week since its inauguration, the agency was retained by CART (Championship Auto Racing Team) to develop and promote a Satellite Media Tour for television stations across the world with 2002 Championship winner, Brazilian driver Cristiano da Matta. During the Grand Prix of Miami, Acqua Communications conducted and secured interviews, at a local and national level, with Mexican driver Adrián Fernández.

Among its roaster of clients, Acqua Communications also boasts Audi Interamericana Transport Industries, an automobile importer, Goodhealth Worldwide, a British-based health insurance underwriter, AméricaEconomía, the leading business publication in Latin America, and Coldwell Banker’s Jane Morales, a real estate agent.

Recently, some of the companyÂ’s team members led media relations campaigns for events and concerts (Carlos Vives, Juan Luis Guerra), carried out test drives with Ford and General Motors for Automundo magazine, and acted as news editors for WSUA 1260 Caracol, among others.

New Programme in the UK Encourages Children to Study a Second Language

New Programme in the UK Encourages Children to Study a Second Language

Ready Steady Move! is a new multilingual programme designed to help young children build healthy bodies and increase their capacity to absorb a new language.

London, UK (PRWEB) September 3, 2010

Recent reports show that the number of UK pupils studying a second language has fallen to a new low. Some experts blamed a decision by Labour to make languages optional for the first time in 2004, thus allowing thousands of pupils to drop the subjects at age 14. Foreign languages are believed to be among the most demanding subjects in the school curriculum, with fears that many pupils are abandoning them to boost their overall results. New to the UK, Ready-Steady-Move offers young children a joyful experience on their first encounter with the study of a foreign language.

Academic research strongly indicates that the most important and influential years of a student’s educational life are kindergarten. In an effort to make these foreign languages more appealing and fun to learn, the Helen Doron Educational Group developed a multilingual movement programme called Ready Steady Move! where pupils acquire the basics of new languages through fun songs with dance, martial arts, Pilates and yoga. The languages pupils are learning with this innovative educational programme are French, German, Spanish, Mandarin, Hebrew and English.

Helen Doron, CEO and founder of the Helen Doron Educational Group says, “A moving body is a learning body. We are opening up children to a new language while their body is learning movements and flexibility from different important physical disciplines. By introducing a foreign language in kindergarten and the early classes of primary school, the child’s brain will easily and naturally absorb the language, with its accent, rhythm and grammar. By the time students get to the age where they can choose to study a foreign language they will have a positive attitude, will learn easily and be ready to become a citizen of Europe.”

Running successfully already in Russia, Italy and Israel, the programme is being piloted this year in the UK and master franchises are being offered there. “Moreover, the good memories of the early childhood classes with Ready-Steady-Move! encourage older students to choose a second language in school," Doron added.

Ready-Steady-Move! is taught by especially trained teachers, to children aged 3 to 8, accompanied by music CDs and Pilates and Yoga DVDs for home training. For more information: www. ready-steady-move. co. uk

Math Teacher auctions his forehead for $5,000,000. Proceeds will be used for non-profit school, two churches and scholarship funds

Math Teacher auctions his forehead for $5,000,000. Proceeds will be used for non-profit school, two churches and scholarship funds.

Math Teacher auctions his forehead for $5,000,000. Proceeds will be used for non-profit school, two churches and scholarship funds.

(PRWEB) August 6, 2005

Mr. Wright, a high school math teacher at A+ Academy (a 501.c.3 non-profit public charter school) in Dallas is offering the use of his forehead for advertising.

It is being listed on eBay starting on Friday, Aug 5, 2005 at 9:00 PST and will be listed for 7 days. Starting bid is for $5,000,000.

For an extra $1,000,000 Mr. Wright will also shave his head.

Any advertising will have to be appropriate for teaching at a school.

When asked why he is doing this, he replied,"It is to help our school. I outlined on eBay where the money is going to be spent. $2 Million will be used for the construction of a new high school; $500,000 each will also be given to two churches; $220,000 will be used to purchase two brand new homes for two different families. These family members must be either employees of A+ Academy and/or have students who attend school.

Money will also be set up for scholarship accounts for every graduating senior (approximately $12,000 each). School vehicles will be purchased."

Mr. Wright also stated that is school serves a financially challenged zipcode where there is a high drop out rate, high teenage fatality and high teenage death rate. Our school graduated 100% of it's Seniors last year, 2005, and they all past the TAKS tests. We are also in an old DISD facility that is about 50 years old and we need more space. We have approximately 950 students in pre-K to 12th grade. We do not have a baseball or softball field. Our football field needs repairs. We do not have a field house. We need locker rooms and more restrooms, etc.

Several students are taking college courses and I would like to award every student who graduates next year (Class of 2006) a college scholarship worth around $12,000 (this is for about 40 seniors). Money will be reimbursed for successful grades at any public or private university. My goal is that if we can help these seniors to get a good education that we will be helping our neighborhood and their families.

The biggest thing is having hope and faith.

Mr. Wright also mentioned that he is a retired Army Major (Corps of Engineers) who retired from Active Duty in Dec, 96. He states that the teacher salaries are about $10,000 less than nearby Dallas, Garland, Mesquite, Richardson and Plano schools. Part of this money will be used to give to every A+ Academy Staff and Faculty Member as a way of thanking them for their service.

"I have been a teacher for 4 years, and this will be my 5th. This is my 3rd year teaching at A+ Academy. I love teaching here and I drive 70 miles a day from Plano to teach here. There are other teachers who drive similar distances. It is not the pay, but the environment. We have a lot of parents who lost their faith in the public school system and have their children attend here. We have a uniform policy and have a zero tolerance for any gang related incidents.

I knew this is where I wanted to be when I know I am helping students who say "they are failures in math" or "they feel stupid". I have seen these same students get A's in my class, and it is a great feeling to see them smile, do their homework and feel proud about themselves.

I was sick for a few days last spring, and when I returned back to teach, I had some of my Juniors in my Algebra II class welcome me back to class, and said they would rather listen to my corny jokes then to have a substitute. They also called me on my cell phone and wished I was doing better and they wanted to see me back at school.

Things like this happen a lot. I have some students with a limited English vocabulary, and it is a great feeling to get across a math concept or just to hear a "Good Morning, Mr. Wright".

Things like this are worth more to me than any medal that I received in the Army. It really is a rewarding experience to help my students.

Portions of this will also be used to be given to every employee and staff member of A+ Academy.

You can also read more about this by doing a search on eBay starting on Friday, Aug 5, 2005 at 9:00 am PST. If you can not find this, then

Please contact Mr. Wright below.

Study in this Week's Issue of Cell Finds Injected Growth Factor Spurs Heart Regeneration

Study in this Week's Issue of Cell Finds Injected Growth Factor Spurs Heart Regeneration

Growth factor enhances heart regeneration, improves heart function without need for cardiac stem cells

Ferndale, WA (Vocus) July 24, 2009

Injured heart tissue normally can't regrow, but researchers at Children's Hospital Boston (http://www. childrenshospital. org/) have now laid the groundwork for regenerating heart tissue after a heart attack, in patients with heart failure, or in children with congenital heart defects. In the July 24 issue of Cell, they show that a growth factor called neuregulin1 (NRG1), which is involved in the initial development of the heart and nervous system, can spur heart-muscle growth and recovery of cardiac function when injected systemically into animals after a heart attack.

After birth, heart-muscle cells (cardiomyocytes) normally withdraw from the cell cycle - meaning they stop dividing and proliferating. But the researchers, led by Bernhard Kühn, MD (http://www. childrenshospital. org/cfapps/research/data_admin/Site2562/mainpageS2562P0.html)], and Kevin Bersell of the Department of Cardiology (http://www. childrenshospital. org/clinicalservices/Site457/mainpageS457P0.html) at Children's, were able to restart the cell cycle with NRG1, stimulating cardiomyocytes to divide and make copies of themselves -- even though they are not stem cells.

"Although many efforts have focused on stem-cell based strategies, our work suggests that stem cells aren't required and that stimulating differentiated cardiomyocytes to proliferate may be a viable alternative," says Kühn, the study's senior investigator and a practicing pediatric cardiologist at Children's since 2007.

When the team injected NRG1 into the peritoneal cavity of live mice after a heart attack, once daily for 12 weeks, heart regeneration was increased and pumping function (ejection fraction, assessed on echocardiograms) improved as compared with untreated controls. The NRG1-injected mice also lacked the left-ventricular dilation and cardiac hypertrophy that typify heart failure; both were seen in the controls.

When the researchers also stimulated production of a cellular receptor for NRG1, known as ErbB4, cardiomyocyte proliferation was further enhanced, demonstrating that NRG1 works by stimulating this receptor. They also identified the specific kinds of cardiomyocytes (mononucleated) that are most likely to respond to treatment.

In 2007, Kühn and colleagues first demonstrated that the heart has dormant regenerative capacities (http://www. childrenshospital. org/newsroom/Site1339/mainpageS1339P1sublevel319.html) that can be reawakened. Kühn developed a sponge-like patch, soaked in a compound called periostin that is abundant in the developing fetal heart (and in injured skeletal muscle) but scarce in adult hearts. When the patch was placed over the site of cardiac injury in rats, it induced cardiomyocyte proliferation and improved heart function (Nature Medicine 2007; 13:962-9). Similar results were seen in larger animals, and periostin is now in preclinical development at Children's Hospital Boston for future application in human patients with heart failure.

The new work adds a second compound to the heart-regeneration toolbox, and reveals how both periostin and NRG-1 work at the cellular and molecular level, an essential step in predicting possible side effects. Both compounds ultimately act on the same cellular pathway, Kühn found.

"We applied periostin locally at the site of cardiac injury, but NRG1 works when given by systemic injection - a very promising result that suggests it may be feasible to use this in the clinic to treat heart failure," says Kühn, who won a first prize Young Investigator Award, from the American College of Cardiology in 2007.

The study was funded by the Department of Cardiology at Children's Hospital Boston, the Charles Hood Foundation, and the American Heart Association.

Children's Hospital Boston is home to the world's largest research enterprise based at a pediatric medical center, where its discoveries have benefited both children and adults since 1869. More than 500 scientists, including eight members of the National Academy of Sciences, 12 members of the Institute of Medicine and 12 members of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute comprise Children's research community. Founded as a 20-bed hospital for children, Children's Hospital Boston today is a 397-bed comprehensive center for pediatric and adolescent health care grounded in the values of excellence in patient care and sensitivity to the complex needs and diversity of children and families. Children's also is the primary pediatric teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School.
