Report from Leading Industry Analyst Shows How Swank Audio Visuals Turns Up the Volume on Talent Management with Halogen Software

Audio Visual Leader achieves talent insight and greater savings from investing in its people

Ottawa, ON (PRWEB) August 18, 2010

A report by leading industry analyst firm IDC reveals how Swank Audio Visuals delivered efficiency and cost savings, while achieving greater insight into its talent, using fully integrated talent management systems. Swank leveraged Halogen Software's award-winning performance management (http://www. halogensoftware. com/products/halogen-eappraisal/), succession planning (http://www. halogensoftware. com/products/halogen-esuccession/) and learning management (http://www. halogensoftware. com/products/halogen-elms/) solutions to implement critical talent management processes across the organization's North American locations. The result has been a renewed focus on high performance and development for the company's team members.

The IDC report, titled "Swank Audio: Turning Up the Volume on Performance Management," includes an in depth case study on how Swank Audio Visuals, a premier event technology provider, automated its talent management processes with best practices-based systems to:
gain better insight into team member performance, competency strengths and weaknesses;  develop a national training program that promotes team member excellence; and  begin talent pool based succession planning, by identifying high-potential employees, as well as areas of retention risk. "Employee performance and talent management systems have the potential to transform organizations," says Krista Napier, Senior Analyst, Canadian Emerging Technology, IDC. "Swank Audio Visuals is a good example of how these systems can effectively automate and streamline appraisals, introduce consistency, support recruitment, training, and retention efforts, as well as deliver deeper insights into employee competencies."

In using a fully integrated solution that links performance and learning, Swank has also been able to quickly and proactively respond to customer feedback. Michael Schott, Vice President Human Resources at Swank Audio Visuals, explains the benefit: "We take customer experiences with specific pieces of equipment, service standards, etc… and are able to create best practices throughout our company. This can prevent challenges and we can quickly develop appropriate training to respond more efficiently. With better integration between employee development and performance management, we can ensure team members have the skills and tools necessary to provide flawless events, while avoiding unnecessary costs."

Using Halogen eAppraisal™, Halogen eSuccession™, and Halogen eLearning Manager™, Swank has improved the efficiency of its talent management processes so that managers are better able to spend their time on providing effective, in-depth employee appraisals and strategically approaching talent management needs rather than being bogged down in administrative work.

With Halogen in place, Swank has been able to go well beyond process improvements, and deliver business value with deep insights into the organization's talent. The solution provides relevant information that helps it advance team member performance; for example by using team member competencies to match job openings, and help identify those best suited for potential succession opportunities or those who are in need of further development.

Leading Alzheimer's Expert Helps Give Alzheimer's Patients Hope and Better Quality of Life with Innovative Program

Leading Alzheimer's Expert Helps Give Alzheimer's Patients Hope and Better Quality of Life with Innovative Program

November is National Alzheimer's Awareness Month & National Family and Caregiver's Month. Leading Alzheimer's expert creates an innovative program to help fight this epidemic.

New York, NY (PRWEB) October 28, 2010

A leading Alzheimer’s expert has created an innovative program giving people living with Alzheimer’s disease a better quality of life. The program is being used in hospitals, assisted living facilities and community day programs all over the tri-state area.

Key Alzheimer's Facts
5.3 million people have Alzheimer’s.   Every 70 seconds a new individual is diagnosed with   Alzheimer’s.
African-Americans and Hispanics are at greatest risk for developing Alzheimer's.   65% of the people diagnosed with Alzheimer’s are women.   60% of those doing the caretaking are also women.   Alzheimer’s is the 7th leading cause of death.   172 billion dollars in annual costs.   Unless something is done, by 2050, up to 16 million Americans will have Alzheimer’s, and a new case will be diagnosed every 33 seconds.   First Lady of California Maria Shriver, whose family has struggled with the disease, released the Shriver Report and on Oct. 24th. had her March on Alzheimer’s Walk to help raise awareness and offer hope.

To help fight this epidemic, Linda Levine Madori, Ph. D, a leading expert in the field of Alzheimer’s disease, has created an innovative program called the TTAP Method -- Therapeutic Thematic Arts Programming. A nine-step methodology that is based on the power of art; music and meditation that helps those afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease achieve increased cognitive functioning and an enhanced quality of life.

Currently, Dr. Levine Madori’s TTAP Method (http://www. ttapmethod. com) is being used in assisted living centers, community day programs, skilled nursing facilities and hospitals all over the tri-state area. Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in White Plains is using the program in their Adolescent unit for their emotionally disturbed teens and those with eating disorders. As well as, Yeager Health Center and Hospital in Rockland County and The Bergen Regional Medical Center in New Jersey, among others.

NOTE: Just because you are not diagnosed with Alzheimer’s does not mean you are not at risk. It is estimated that 25% of people carry the Alzheimer’s gene (ApoE4) gene. Dr. Levine Madori’s TTAP Method program also helps promotes brain health. And, offers tips for individuals to help keep their brain healthy.

Dr. Levine Madori has been featured in numerous medical journals and various publications. She has appeared on television and is often called upon by the media for her expertise in the field.

Dr. Linda Levine Madori is available for interviews. Please contact Ruth Eisner at scoopre(at)optonline(dot)net or call 516.849.8159 to arrange.

About the Reserve Officers Association of the United States (ROA)

The Association has a current membership of more than 78,000 Reserve and regular officers-- active and retired. ROA is the only organization representing all of the nation's uniformed services, including the United States Public Health Service (USPHS) and the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Also included in the AssociationÂ’s membership, are about 2,000 officer candidates of all services. ROA was founded on October 2, 1922 at the Willard Hotel, Washington, D. C following a meeting of several hundred Army officers, many of whom were combat veterans of World War I. General of the Armies, John J. Pershing, was the keynote speaker. Although ROA worked closely with Congress from the time of its founding, Public Law 595, "An Act to incorporate the Reserve Officers Association of the United States," established the objective of ROA: "To support a military policy for the United States that will provide adequate National Security and to promote the development and execution thereof." President Harry S Truman, one of the early members of ROA, signed the ROA congressional charter act on June 30, 1950.

Deterioration of the Support Structure Is Seen As the Cause for Chronic Diseases As Reported in Second Book from Harold Rongey, Ph. D

Deterioration of the Support Structure Is Seen As the Cause for Chronic Diseases As Reported in Second Book from Harold Rongey, Ph. D

As most people observed, from seeing pictures of the recent disaster involving the bridge in Minneapolis, gradual deterioration of the support structure eventually causes collapse of that structure. The support structure of the human body is no exception! The good news is that your body is programed to make the repairs when needed, if it is properly nourished.

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) October 17, 2007

"Who Stole My Food? Be Forever Healthy" is the second book in a series on health and nutrition by Harold Rongey, Ph. D. The book focuses on the nutritional factors essential to sustain a healthy support structure -- the most neglected part of the human body.

Chronic diseases such as those involving the digestive, circulatory, neurological, pulmonary systems, or those of the skin, bones, and joints are the result of this deterioration. The actual cause can be attributed to some level of malnutrition.

The bad news is that most of the medical treatments for these diseases serve only to mask the signals of the body (pain) that alert you to the problem. This allows the deterioration to continue to the point that it calls for replacement of the damaged parts, such as hips, knees, weakened arteries, et cetera.

The good news is that your body is programmed to make the repairs when needed, if it is properly nourished. To learn how you can properly nourish your support structure, visit Dr. Rongey's web site at www. whostolemyfood. com or contact him at 714 624-3029.

The Food Detectives' Top Tips To Baking Foolproof With Soy

The Food Detectives' Top Tips To Baking Foolproof With Soy

The Food Detective shares these soy cooking tips.

(PRWEB) September 27, 2005

"It seems like everyone is eating more soy these days, and recipes for soy are at high demand, says Shirleen Sando, The Food Detective and author of the first soyfoods baking book on the market, Beyond Low Fat Baking: Cancer Fighting Foods for the Millennium (Skyward Publishing, www. skywardpublishing. com).

And, according to a recent news release from The United Soybean Board suggesting that "emerging research points to the beneficial role soy can play in a woman's diet, potentially protecting her from breast cancer and bone loss, alleviating hot flashes associated with menopause and even helping in weight management," it is no wonder soy continues to play a vital role in the American diet. The Food Detective shares these soy cooking tips.

Tip # 1: When baking with tofu, it is best to use low-fat silken tofu, especially to replace part of the fat with tofu. Silken tofu is creamy in texture and mixes in better than firm. Tofu contains no trans fats.

Tip # 2: Don't go overboard. A little tofu is high in protein and other nutrients, so a little goes a long way toward improving nutrition in baked goods. If too much tofu is used in a baked item, the product will be less than desirable. As a rule of thumb, you can replace from 2 tablespoons to ¼ of the fat in traditional baked items such as cakes and breads with an equal amount of blended tofu. Cookies are another matter. It is generally best to replace less than ¼ of the fat in a cookie recipe with tofu. The best approach is to follow kitchen tested recipes such as those found in Beyond Low Fat Baking: Cancer Fighting Foods for the Millennium, a top selling soyfoods baking book. Other books are available as well.

Tip # 3: Soy flour adds a tremendous amount of nutrients to baked items such as breads, cakes, cookies, and muffins. Soy flour is high protein and potassium and other healthy nutrients, and it is lower in carbs. Soy is a main ingredient in the the Atkin's Diet baking mix. But, be careful and avoid replacing too much traditional flour with soy flour. Soy flour is low in gluten and baked goods will not rise without additions of higher gluten flours such as white or wheat and/or vital wheat gluten. Try replacing from 1-3 tablespoons of regular flour with an equal amount of soy flour. Though a small addition, the benefit will pay off in better health.

Tip # 4: Baked goods with additions of tofu to replace part of the fat will generally brown less than regular items, so be careful and do not over bake. Tofu baked muffins, cakes, and quick breads are moist and will not dry out as quickly as traditional baked goods.

Tip # 5: Do not store fresh baked items in high heat areas such as the backseat of a car in the summer. If in a warm room, it would be preferable to wrap tofu baked items in plastic wrap and store in the refrigerator. Do not keep more than a few days. All fresh items spoil quickly.

Tip # 6: Tofu laced breads are moist and delicious. Try replacing from ¼ to 1/3 of the oil or shortening with silken tofu. Breads will keep longer because they will retain moistness for a longer period of time.

Tip # 7: Tofu can be used to replace up to 1/4 of the cream cheese in many recipes that call for cream cheese, including cheesecake. Simply use a food processor and blend silken tofu and cream cheese until creamy.

Author Resource Box:

Beyond Low-Fat Baking-ISBN 1-881554-03-1 (Skyward Publishing) has easy step-by-step methods for making the best-of-the-best soy-laced baked goods. Every triple-tested recipe passed the taste test of prize-winning cook, Shirleen Sando, a columnist and Founder of Living Healthy Foods, and is one of the Food Detectives, who keep watch on your health. Her mouth-popping gourmet muffins and all-American breads, pies, and pizza are winners. Each recipe speaks TASTE! Order at your favorite bookstore or from all major Internet sites.

Therapist Trudy Johnson of Missing Pieces. Org, Declares that Decades After Roe vs. Wade, Women Should Have Permission to Grieve Abortions

Therapist Trudy Johnson of Missing Pieces. Org, Declares that Decades After Roe vs. Wade, Women Should Have Permission to Grieve Abortions

MIssing Pieces. Org develops C. P.R.~ Choice Processing and Resolution, a brand new book that gives women more answers for their abortion grief than "you're still a nice person!"

Buena Vista, CO (PRWEB) December 30, 2009

The anniversary of Roe vs. Wade is on January 22, 2010. This is the day that brought legalized abortion to our nation. We now enter 37 years of abortion choices in our culture. We’ve officially taken the issue of “choice” out of the back-alley.

However, millions of women who’ve actually made an abortion decision fall through the cracks when it comes to a clear understanding of the grieving process that follows a voluntary pregnancy termination. After an abortion, women are on their own to resolve the possible feeling of loss that may naturally follow a choice decision. Women are abandoned in their sadness because the idea of grief over an abortion choice is a foreign concept. There is no place or public venue to grieve an abortion in our culture. This type of grief is called disenfranchised grief.

Sometimes there can be a misunderstanding in our culture as to just how many women need to go through the grieving process following an abortion. 37 years after the famous Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court decision, women who’ve made a choice decision are the largest demographic in our nation. Abortion touches every race, every religion, and every monetary status. Abortion is now a household word. Unfortunately, processing the grief involved in those decisions remains behind closed doors for millions of women.

Because abortion is such an emotionally charged topic of debate, women feel as if it’s a “betrayal to the legalities of the cause” if they dare let themselves go through the natural process of grief. Decades later though, it should be an acceptable societal position for women who are looking for help with this grief process to have permission to resolve their losses without the spotlight of political or religious dialogue.

Missing Pieces. Org (http://www. missingpieces. org), a counseling group in the heart of the rocky mountains of Colorado, has developed a resource for women needing to grieve the loss of their voluntary pregnancy termination, or "vpt" (abortion). C. P.R. ~ Choice Processing and Resolution is a self help book that walks through the grief process that follows an abortion.

Trudy M. Johnson, L. M.F. T. a therapist for Missing Pieces. Org experienced this disenfranchised grief situation after seeking help for an abortion she had while in college. In a recent interview Ms. Johnson relates her personal experience trying to get help after an abortion. “I went to a professional counselor and he told me to ‘go home and get over it.’ I then went to two pastors for help. One condemned my decision and actually told me I should feel bad for what I did. The other pastor was very kind and assured me I was still a 'nice person.' "

“No one got it!” Trudy Johnson explains. “Two people validated my choice but not my grief. One person condemned my choice and didn’t give me any reason to have the courage to talk about my abortion again, much less have permission to grieve my loss. The point is that is not about whether you agree with Roe vs. Wade,” she says. “Women are desperate to talk about a very important decision in their past."

Dr. Christiane Northrup, M. D., F. A.C, O. G., also acknowledges the importance of grieving an abortion decision. Dr. Northrup is the author one of the nations' leading books on women's health, titled, Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom. Dr. Northrup recently stated, "As a former abortion provider, I've long known about the need for grieving voluntary pregnancy termination."

"Women really need a safe place to talk and cry," says Trudy Johnson. "Even if they don't regret their choice they still need someone to talk to about it. C. P.R. ~ Choice Processing and Resolution is the book I was looking for and couldn’t find when I was seeking help after my abortion,” Johnson says. "Somehow we need to separate the legalities and the politics of abortion from the actual heart issues of the woman who makes the decision for voluntary pregnancy termination (abortion).”

Choosing abortion becomes a woman's own personal journey quite apart from any Supreme Court decision. It’s not about being a bad or a good person. It’s about having permission to cry about a very painful event in a woman’s life.

Peterborough, NH (PRWEB) January 8, 2008

M2S Inc., an industry leader in medical image management and analysis, announced today that it has entered into a partnership agreement with ResearchPoint Global (RPG), a joint-venture, full-service CRO with an established presence in nearly 70 countries. M2S provides superior image management, state-of - the-art 3D modeling, and cutting edge image analysis to the pharmaceutical, biotech, surgical, and medical device industries. The partnership with RPG is the next step in M2S' international growth for its Clinical Trials Services division.

The partnership will provide M2S' clinical trials clients with access to RPG's integration of services, including international regulatory support, patient recruitment, and site selection and management. In addition, the partnership will help M2S expand its rapidly growing business with offices, sites, and experienced personnel in over 70 countries, while supporting the global deployment of its proprietary image transfer technology.

M2S' CEO, Wes Chapman, said, "We're pleased to be a part of the RPG network. RPG delivers the highest standard of quality in customer service while continually seeking innovative and cost-effective solutions to their clients' needs. This new partnership will allow clinical investigators working on a global level to focus more freely on what they do best, rather than on the art, science, and logistics of core lab image processing and management -- which is what we do best. The global expansion of our technology and the extension of our services will serve our clients well and help secure our plans to become the preeminent image management company."

President and CEO of ResearchPoint and founding partner of RPG, John Farinacci notes, "We are pleased to now offer our clients comprehensive imaging services to support their clinical trial objectives. The collaboration with M2S and the imaging capabilities they offer creates seamless delivery between clinical monitoring and imaging management activities. RPG will now be able to collect and manage image data, and support independent reviews, whether centralized, remote, regional or global. Imaging services will reside at each of our global locations to ensure security and real-time monitoring."

M2S' DICOM ArmorCar™(DAC™) image transfer technology has revolutionized the way medical images are transported between sites, core labs, and clinical trial sponsors. The DAC™ transfers image data securely in their original digital DICOM format for immediate, real-time QC assessment and query generation/resolution. In addition to its preservation of data integrity, the DAC™ provides incredible time savings and eliminates the immense costs associated with storing data on CDs and shipping them via courier, a standard practice in the industry today. The DAC is the first system designed specifically to address these significant issues, and the expansion of its global integration will allow clinical trial sponsors to utilize its power to manage their large international trials more efficiently and cost - effectively than ever before. DACs have already been installed and implemented in over 250 institutions in the U. S.A., as well as a growing number in Europe, South America, and Asia.

Steve and Krista Masula of eKaiser Insurance Return from Trip to Niger with New Perspectives on Healthcare

Steve and Krista Masula of eKaiser Insurance Return from Trip to Niger with New Perspectives on Healthcare

Steve and Krista Masula, the principals of eKaiserinsurance. com, are returning from a recent trip to West Africa with a new perspective on global healthcare.

Carlsbad, CA (PRWEB) September 5, 2007

Steve and Krista Masula of eKaiserinsurance. com recently returned from a visit to Niger, West Africa. During the trip, they gained a vastly different perspective about health security and other health concerns than what they are accustomed to.

The health insurance team visited family member and former employee of eKaiserinsurance. com, Kelly Masula. She has spent the last two years living and working in a small village in Niger as a Community Health Agent for the Peace Corps. As the hottest and poorest country in the world, ranking 177 out of 177 countries in the 2006 United Nations Human Development Index, Niger presented a harsh reality for its western visitors, who describe the living situation as dire.

"I tried to see the positive in my surroundings, but I was repeatedly confronted with the destitute, the ragged clothing, the blind beggars, the polio victims scooting on the ground, the unsanitary conditions," said Krista Masula, licensed insurance broker with eKaiserinsurance. com. "Yet, despite a lacking environment, the people looked happy, the children had the most beautiful smiles; so that is where I turned my focus."

With statistics reflecting death for 25 percent of children under the age of five, and an adult life expectancy of a mere 42 years, Steven and Krista Masula offer a great deal of gratitude to such institutions such as Doctors Without Borders. They are a humanitarian emergency aid organization which has embarked on an ambitious action plan with an objective to treat 500,000 children suffering from acute malnutrition in the upcoming year. Steve and Krista made a monetary donation to Doctors Without Borders, hoping to bring better health care to Niger, while returning home to continue bringing better health care to California.

Wrinkle Cream: Looking Younger For Valentine's Day Only Takes Minutes

Wrinkle Cream: Looking Younger For Valentine's Day Only Takes Minutes

In today's world, we expect instant results with everything, with our cell phones, emails and instant messaging. And now, when it comes to wrinkle cream products, it needs to only takes a few minutes to work as well. Women want this, expect this, and yes, they're now getting it. Wrinkle Creams Review is announcing a free tip sheet on looking your best for Valentine's Day 2009, for a limited time.

Perth, Western Australia (PRWEB) February 10, 2009

Looking younger with a wrinkle cream which gives results in only several short minutes, instead of the many laborious months it has been traditionally though to take, is now possible. As a result, many women, and men, are using the anti aging creams that are supposed to give immediate results. When it comes to Valentine's day, women want to look their best, and the anti aging serums can help them do so without having to wait months.

As a special announcement for Valentine's day 2009, Marcus Ryan, of Wrinkle Creams Review, is issuing a free tip sheet as a free download, entitled "Looking Your Best For Valentine's Day And Any Other Date" from February 10th for a limited time. You can download the document from the Valentine's day link on his review website for the upcoming week.

Marcus Ryan, who tests and reviews the most popular anti aging wrinkle cream products online, says that "More and more, women as well as men are demanding that they see an immediate result with their wrinkle cream."

But do these new anti aging products deliver these fast results as promised? "If you use the ones that are proven to, then the answer is yes'. He continues, "And it's not about impressing a date, it's about looking their best, as women love to look and feel their age, not 5 or 10 years older than their age."

Ever since the introduction of the idea of 'anti aging' in the news and media, such as Dr Perricone's popular bestseller, "The Wrinkle Cure", the increasing information we have on the role that antioxidants play in our physical health, the impact of stress on aging, and the awareness of how lifestyle can either age, or make people age much less slowly, there has been demand for products that reduce the rate of skin aging.

The wrinkle cream products that have had recent attention in both the US and the UK media include Lifecell skin wrinkle cream, which has the endorsement of celebrities, and the Athena 7 Minute Lift which has the endorsement of Dr Mark Binette M. D and Dr Eric Kaplan M. D, the famed survivor of a Botox dose that went horribly wrong. These two products work very differently, but with the same end result. Marcus Ryan explains "The Lifecell has microscopic 3D silicon dioxide crystals which reflect light to make wrinkles invisible within 60 seconds, while the Athena uses botanical oils to hydrate and lift the skin to reverse the appearance of wrinkles within 7 minutes."

He continues "I have seen results with both creams, and they happen very fast", explaining that he often tests these creams on women and men of various ages, from their 30s to their 60s. He says "Each time, I am quite surprised at how one or the other, or both creams have such immediate results."

It is perhaps because of these creams, that women are now expecting that other wrinkle creams should perform the same way, if not better. Marcus comments that "When they see results, they will compare the cream that worked for them with the next one, and choose the best cream that way." He suggests that this may be the way of the future as customers are becoming more savvy and want proof of results in the form of testimonials, photos and satisfaction guarantees. He continues "It's simple, just try the ones that have evidence that they work, and see for yourself."

So what does this mean for men and women on Valentine's day? Marcus says that "It's good to know your options when it comes to anti wrinkle creams, and women can spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars every month trying new products to look their best in social as well as business situations." So if you're looking for that extra anti aging boost this weekend, then it may be worthwhile to spend some time getting to know your product options for your skin.

In this age of fast cars, fast communication and even fast meditation at the press of a button, it's good to know that we can have faster than expected results with anti aging efforts as well.

For additional information on anti wrinkle and anti aging cream products that have caught the media's attention, and to download your special Valentine's Day 2009 free tip sheet, visit Marcus's site which has anti wrinkle cream reviews (http://www. wrinklecreamsreview. com) to read real life reviews of the top rated wrinkle creams for both women and men.

HereÂ’s Help For Succeeding With Your New YearÂ’s Resolution

HereÂ’s Help For Succeeding With Your New YearÂ’s Resolution

--For Immediate Release--

--NORRIDGE, IL –December 2000 – New Year’s resolutions seem to be a thing of the past. Many people have stopped creating resolutions all together because they never followed through with them. According to Personal Success Coach Carole Nicolaides,

“Before you are able to stick to any new goals you need to work on some of your old issues. Clearing out the old enables you to make room for the new.”

As a Personal Success Coach, Nicolaides has worked with many corporations as well individuals to help them set goals and achieve their New Year’s plans. Nicolaides continues, “People seek quick results. They aim high and want a better life for the New Year. Nothing is wrong with that, however I usually ask my clients to write their past year’s achievements down first.” Does this sound a little bit unusual? It may very well be so. But focusing on and celebrating wins provides a solid base and an inspiration, so to speak.

Why is that so important? Because a very clear picture is created in relation to where you are now versus where you were back in January. That feeling of accomplishment is just what each of us needs in order to gain motivation for taking on new goals.

Nicolaides encourages the use of the following steps in order to finally be able to stick with your New YearÂ’s resolutions.

1. Develop a list of all unresolved matters in your personal and professional life. Clean up your unresolved matters before committing in any new goals.

2. Identify people and things that drain energy from you such as unhealthy relationships, addictions, habits etc. By identifying these energy drainers you are half way to eliminating them from your life.

3. Remove blocks that keep you from achieving goals. One of the biggest blocks is fear.

4. Get your needs met. It is very important to identify what you truly need for your current stage of life.

5. Commit to three new self-care habits. Stick to this routine. It will change you completely.

6. Get a real picture of what you want for next year. Incorporate things that will push you faster toward your destination.

By allowing time to celebrate the victories of 2000 before tackling new resolutions for 2001; and by following steps that allow you to take control of your life, your New YearÂ’s resolutions will finally come to pass.

Consumers Need Not Wait for Resveratrol to be Approved as a Drug

Consumers Need Not Wait for Resveratrol to be Approved as a Drug

Research-grade resveratrol capsules are available and consumers need not wait for red wine pills to become a drug to obtain a high-quality dietary supplement. Responding to consumer demand, Longevinex® introduces a premium higher-dosage resveratrol capsule.

San Dimas, CA (PRWEB) December 14, 2006

While the demand for red wine resveratrol pills has heightened with the recent publication of a report showing resveratrol overcame the adverse effects of a high-fat diet in animals, many consumers question the quality of red wine resveratrol pills and believe that many brands provide less than the labeled amount of resveratrol and others provide only grape skin powder, not resveratrol. Some doctors and pharmacists are suggesting consumers wait till resveratrol becomes a prescription drug, an approval process that takes seven years or more.

However, consumers do not need to wait for resveratrol to be approved as a doctor-dispensed medicine to obtain reliable dosages of this natural molecule, says Bill Sardi, president of Resveratrol Partners LLC, maker of Longevinex® capsules, the premium red wine resveratrol supplement.

Environmental factors may degrade resveratrol.* Longevinex uses a proprietary process to protect its ingredients from degradation is the only resveratrol dietary supplement that is encapsulated without exposure to light, heat or oxygen and sealed in an airtight, opaque capsule (Licaps®, Capsugel®, trademarks used under license). Resveratrol in Longevinex® capsules has been shown to be stable for more than 2 years, retaining 96% or more of its potency. (Independent lab report)

Another independent laboratory test confirms that Longevinex® activates the Sirtuin 1 DNA-repair "survival" gene as well as research-grade resveratrol. With evidence that the inclusion of an accompanying antioxidant increases activation of the Sirtuin 1 gene,** Longevinex also includes IP6 rice bran, a powerful antioxidant.

Because of a consumer demand for higher-dose supplements, the dosage of resveratrol in Longevinex® has now been increased from 40 to 100 milligrams per capsule.

To match the dosage found to be effective in the animal experiment published in Nature Magazine, 180 milligrams daily dose of trans resveratrol is suggested for a 160-pound adult human. Resveratrol capsules should be consumed with meals, says Bill Sardi, because that is when the French drink their red wine. The French exhibit superior cardiovascular health because of resveratrol in their red wine.

Article Released Charges Many Nursing Home Owners and Governmental Agencies with Enabling Nursing Home Abuse and “Eldercide”

Article Released Charges Many Nursing Home Owners and Governmental Agencies with Enabling Nursing Home Abuse and “Eldercide”

The attached article, “Nursing Homes: The Perils of an Institutionalized Life”, relying almost entirely on past newspaper articles, books and news broadcasts, exposes the abuses and Eldercide of our senior citizens – our mothers, brothers and sisters – inside nursing homes; and the lack of government action. Elder abuses, the mistreatment of senior citizens and Eldercide in nursing homes are now shockingly common and rising. Despite past articles, lawsuits and government findings, the problem is getting worse, not better. The Dorotha A. White Foundation hopes this article is a start in preventing nursing home abuse from becoming America’s next Katrina. The Dorotha A. White Foundation issues this article on the eve and in honor of the 1st annual Elder Abuse Awareness Day, on June 15, 2006.

Schaumburg, IL (PRWEB) June 14, 2006 –-

On the eve of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, the Dorotha A. White Foundation released an article charging that many nursing homes and governmental agencies are unwitting collaborators in elder abuse, the mistreatment of senior citizens and Eldercide, the systematic institutionalization of the elderly and infirm in nursing homes that leads to their premature death. The foundation reports that these abuses are shockingly common and rising. Today’s victims are our parents, brothers and sisters, and us.

The complete article, "Nursing Home Abuse - An Institutional Life", is attached to this release as a PDF file or click this link to view the complete article Caregiver Management Systems, Inc (http://www. ecaregiver. com/pressrelease/NrsHmAbusePressRel. pdf). A MS Word document is also available for reporters and interested parties who wish to use parts of the article in stories and information pieces.

The article is based on stories from Los Angeles Times, St. Louis Post-Dispatch, The New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Kansas Capital-Journal, New Orleans Times-Picayune, CBS News, Kansas City Daily Record, and Time Magazine. The following subject experts and organizations are quoted in the article: Cliff Zucker, executive director of Disability Advocates Inc.; Benjamin Wolf, attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois; Rocky Nichols, executive director of the Disability Rights Center of Kansas; Senate Finance Committee Chair, Senator Chuck Grassley; the Office of Inspector General; Nursing Home Abuse Resource Center; Perfect Cause; U. S. Department of Health and Human Services; Praveen Gupta of Accelper Consulting and Six Sigma; Jerry Rhoads, CEO of Caregiver Management Systems, Inc.; Jennifer Kelly of the Nursing Home Watch; and AMA President J. Edward Hill.

Highlights from the article:

“Nursing Home Abuse: The Perils of an Institutionalized Life” Turning Eldercide into Elderpride

The abuse of America’s senior citizens continues despite thousands of media stories and lawsuits. Drowned out by the “flavor of the day” hot issue topics, the cries of victims’ loved ones go unheeded. The elderly have no flags to wave at marches they lack the energy to organize or attend. Pictures of victimized senior citizens never make the evening news. The “evil doers” go unpunished as America remains clueless to the abuse and murder of our senior citizens. This article is dedicated to those victims on the eve of the first annual “World Elder Abuse Awareness Day,” sponsored by the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse, to be held on June 15th.

WHAT ARE THE UNDERLYING CAUSES AND WHAT IS NEEDED?

In an August 19, 2004 PR Newswire story, Jennifer Kelly, of Nursing Home Watch, commented “Many facilities are understaffed and the care of a loved family member is left to poorly-trained nursing staff and aides who are overworked and underpaid. Many facilities are so short-staffed that they operate in violation of state law. Failure by the facility to do background checks also leads to an inexperienced, low quality worker. The highly stressful nature of the work, due to insufficient staffing and time to complete tasks, can lead to burnout, negative job attitudes, a loss of empathy for the patient, and ultimately abuse.”

NURSING HOMES AND THE INSTITUTIONAL LIFE

Nursing home residents are a highly vulnerable population and often isolated, making them easy targets for less than humane care. In his 1970 report on nursing homes, Ralph Nader called old age “the last segregation.”

MENTAL INSTITUTIONS – PAST AND PRESENT

The conditions within mental institutions of the past can be compared to many nursing homes of today. Patients living in a mental ward in the early 1900's lived under rigid hospital conditions, were told when to get up and when to sleep, ate meals planned and prepared by others, had no responsibilities, stopped making decisions for themselves, and were often neglected.

NURSING HOMES AND MENTAL INSTITUTIONS – THE LINE IS BLURRING

Is a comparison of today’s nursing homes to mental institutions fair?

NURSING HOME ABUSE, ASSAULT, NEGLECT AND “ELDERCIDE” – A GROWING PROBLEM

The Nursing Home Reform Act of 1987 states that all residents in nursing homes are entitled to receive quality care and live in an environment that improves or maintains the quality of their physical and mental health. However, the care that senior citizens receive ranges widely from genuine compassion to abuse or indifference.

ABUSE BY NURSING HOME OPERATORS AND INADEQUATE STAFFING – THE PROFIT MOTIVE

According to the Center for Nursing Home Abuse, shocking stories of abuse and neglect exist because many nursing home owners are driven more by profits than care of residents.

THERE IS HOPE - QUALITY CARE IN SKILLED NURSING HOME FACILITIES DOES EXIST TODAY

While most news about the industry is bleak with stories of poor care, overworked staff, and aides who abuse the residents, many skilled nursing facilities are full of dedicated, caring individuals who go to great lengths to provide the best possible service for their residents.

TO MOVE TO QUALITY CARE, NURSING HOMES MUST OVERCOME MANAGING REGULATORY AGENCY OBSTACLES

Confused by complex JCAHO (Joint Council on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations) compliance guidelines, government regulations, and profit motives, the nursing home industry hasn't changed in over fifty years and remains an antiquated, bureaucratic management system.

ELDERPRIDE – THE SOLUTION TO IMPROVE THE SITUATION IN AMERICA'S NURSING HOMES

Elderpride is a new infrastructure that focuses on restorative programming, not warehousing; a system that creates incentives for restorative and health preservation services, rather than treatment; and a model that pursues health preservation and wellness, instead of profit and money. The Elderpride solution also calls for the establishment of a National Health Policy to nationalize and privatize health care as a right to receive quality care.

ACTION MUST BE TAKEN

The problem still exists today. Our country’s leaders and the medical industry need to address this pending crisis, before it increases to the intensity of the immigration, Hurricane Katrina, Medicare, Iraq war and terrorism issues.

The Dorotha C. White Foundation, for which this article was written, was founded by Shari and Jerry Rhoads to campaign for legislation that will require providers of health care to be paid on the basis of outcome and that the regulatory process is incentive not enforcement driven. Shari Rhoads' mother, Dorotha C. White, was abused and neglected in an Illinois nursing home that committed three immediate jeopardy Class A violations after she had suffered an undetected heart attack as a result of being dehydrated and over medicated by the attending physician.

Imbalanced reporting concerning Terri Schindler Schiavo

Imbalanced reporting concerning Terri Schindler Schiavo

More than a Right-To-Die Case...

(PRWEB) January 23, 2004

Something is not right? Something is amiss.

I understand the legal system, in the Pinellas County of the State of FLorida wish to remain "politically balanced", however, it takes a person of great strength and moral character to stand aside his/her peers and say "something ISNT right with this case...this is MORE than a right-to-die issue." Unfortunately, no judges are willing to stand up for what is just in Pinella's County Florida.

Continually the judges have refused to hear testimony from caretakers and medical evidence that suggests possible foul play was involved in the collapse of Ms. Schiavo. They have refused to acknowledge that a conflict of interest is apparent in the motive for Michael Schiavo to wish his wife dead.

Instead, they rely on his testimony, and those of the husband, Michael Schiavo, and his family members, (on hearsay statements) that Ms. Terri Schiavo stated she would not wish to remain in a non functioning state. This is clearly unjust when no written directive exists and was presented years later into her condition.

Some more facts to ponder that the judges refuse to take into consideration:

FACTS:

1) Bone scans and medical records from 1990 indicate severe trauma, numerous broken bones; no criminal investigation has ever been conducted. Michael Schiavo had those records SEALED for years and only recently came to light for the family. A review of these records by top US Forensic Pathologist Michael Baden concluded that a criminal investigation should be conducted.

2) Michael Schiavo defrauded the courts by promising to care for Terri for the rest of his life and then used the jury awarded $700 thousand specifically designated for Terri's rehabilitation for his own personal gain and to end Terri's life. This also violates Fl Statute. 825.103 "Exploitation of an elderly person or disabled adult" which prohibits the misuse of a disabled person's funds by the guardian.

3) Further, Section (2)(a) states that If the funds, assets, or property involved in the exploitation of the elderly person or disabled adult is valued at $100,000 or more, the offender commits a felony of the first degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082, s. 775.083, or s. 775.084.

4)The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), 42 U. S.C. Sections 12101 provides that necessary and appropriate rehabilitation services and physical/motor skill therapy may not be denied a substantially disabled patient in the United States of America.

5) Cf 28 CFR, Ch 1, Subpart B, Sect 35.130 States "Nothing in the Act or this part authorizes the representative or guardian of an individual with a disability to decline food, water, medical treatment, or medical services for that individual."

6)Failure to Discharge His Duties under FS § 744.474 (2) requires that the guardian protect the rights of the ward, provide for her health and safety, properly manage her financial resources and help her regain her abilities to the maximum extent possible.

7)The initial move to Hospice was done in violation of the annual plan and without court permission in violation of FS § 744.3215(4)].

8) Terri has the right to receive visitors and communicate with others. FS § 744.3215

9) Terri has the right to receive "palliative care" which is the comprehensive management of the physical, psychological, social, spiritual, and existential needs of the patient. FS. § 765.102.

10) In 1990, Michael took Terri to San Francisco for experimental medical treatment, without the necessary prior approval of the Court. FS. § 744.3215(4).

11) The guardian is required by law to prepare and present an annual plan. FS § 744.3675.Repeatedly, the annual plans have been filed late or not at all

12) In his annual reports, Schiavo has failed to prepare and present any plan for the provision of medical, mental health, and rehabilitative services in the coming year as required by FS §744.3675 (1)(b)(3)

13) The Adult Protective Services Act (Chapter 415 of the Florida Statutes) affords protection to disabled persons from abuse, neglect and exploitation

14) Fla. Stat. § 415. 102(1)(2002). Schiavo’s isolation of Terri and refusal to provide adequate physician attention, rehabilitative services, dental care and other medical services constitutes abuse under the Adult Protective Services Act as well as the guardianship statutes.

15) Schiavo’s decision to hold Terri at Hospice after it was clear that she was not "terminal" within Medicare guidelines was an improper use of the ward’s assets. In order to receive federal payment for hospice care, the facility must obtain a certification from the attending physician within two calendar days of initial admission that the patient’s "prognosis is for a life expectancy of 6 months or less if the terminal illness runs its normal course." 42 C. F.R. § 418.22 (2001) Terri has been in Hospice 3 years.

16. A simple, gravity-operated feeding tube is used by hundreds of thousands of Americans for various reasons and should not be considered "artificial life support."

17. Provision of food and water are basic necessities to which all patients are entitled. In the absence of an express written directive to the contrary, a patient should be presumed to want to receive food and water.

18. Because of the danger of ulterior motives, an incapacitated person's life should not be ended based on the hearsay statements of others who have conflicts of interest, in this case a husband who for years has been living with another woman by whom he has fathered two children.

19. A brain-injured person's life has meaning and value, and society has no business ending a life based on a quality of life determination.

Unfortunately, the judges presiding over the case will not look into the circumstances surrounding the actions of Michael Schiavo as they are "blind" to the real issue. Fact is, they claim the real issue is the "right to die" decision when in fact, they have continually ruled improperly when Ms. Schiavo DID NOT have any wishes in writing. Due to that, the wishes to have her life terminated should never have come this far into the courts. It should of been thrown out, years ago.

In closing, I would respectfully honor any website; news article; or published work that recognizes the REAL issues and circumastances surrounding this case that the media wishes to keep well hidden for "political balance".

Will the people of Florida stand behind what is morally right and insist that their judicial system recognize that this is much more than a right to die issue? Or will they turn a blind eye and say this is a desperate attempt on the family of Ms. Schiavo to have their child returned? Can one blame the Schindlers for wanting their daughter returned to their loving care? I can hardly doubt that anyone should object...unfortunately...there are those that object..starting with Judge Greer and all the other Judges presiding over this case. If that does not scream "political bias among ones peers", I do not know what does....and to further make this situation a tragedy...a human life is at stake. Shame on the judges of Florida.

Colonel Talks About Enemy Soldiers on American Soil on WLW 700 Cincinnati

There are enemy soldiers on American soil. The names of these soldiers are Heart Disease, Cancer and Stroke. They are killing over 3,000 Americans a day. Retired Lt. Colonel Bob Weinstein is preparing a battle plan to combat these enemy soldiers in his soon to be published book "Enemy Soldiers on American Soil".

Fort Lauderdale, FL (PRWEB) February 16, 2005

Jim Scott of WLW 700 Cincinnati radio talk show interviewed Weinstein, known as the Health Colonel, about how he conquered the "Battle of the Waistline Bulge" and how he came to run sprints like he did in high school as a 53 year old. The interview will start airing in February/March 2005. Jim Scott is on WLW weekdays from 5 to 9 AM and airs in ten states.

Asked about his health journey, Weinstein responds, "Five years ago, at the age of 48, I was twenty pounds overweight, had high blood pressure and cardiovascular insufficiency as well as being under medication. I felt it and my eating habits were terrible. I started thinking about the long-term consequences of my unhealthy lifestyle. With positive changes in my eating habits and a more focused exercise program, I lost twenty pounds in three months and my energy level as a 53 year old is now higher than it was twenty years ago."

Colonel Weinstein is a writer, speaker, beach boot camp instructor and personal trainer. His mission is to inspire Americans to lead healthier and happier lives by working their physical, emotional and mental "muscles."

Free Special Report from Johns Hopkins Health Alerts: Seven Keys To Reduce Cholesterol

Free Special Report from Johns Hopkins Health Alerts: Seven Keys To Reduce Cholesterol

Johns Hopkins Health Alerts today released Seven Keys To Reduce Cholesterol, an important new Special Report on reducing cholesterol in order to reduce the risk of heart attack and improve your overall health.

Bethel, CT (PRWEB) March 1, 2007

Johns Hopkins Health Alerts today released an important new Special Report, Seven Keys To Reduce Cholesterol, in order to reduce the risk of heart attack and improve one's overall health.

The government's National Cholesterol Education Program (NCEP) estimates that at least 65 million Americans have high cholesterol levels that merit treatment with dietary and other lifestyle changes designed to lower cholesterol. The NCEP also states that as many as 36 million people should be taking cholesterol-lowering medications. Yet only 12 to 15 million of them are currently taking these medications, such as statin drugs (for example, Crestor, Lipitor, Zocor), and many (probably most) are taking too small a dose of statins to reduce cholesterol to safer levels effectively.

As many Americans are now aware, abnormal levels of cholesterol carried in the blood -- and in particular a high level of LDL, or so-called "bad" cholesterol -- significantly increase the risk for coronary heart disease and heart attack. It is also well established that reducing cholesterol to achieve optimal levels can significantly reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes.

Who is at risk of having a heart attack? EVERYONE. Heart disease is the NUMBER ONE killer of BOTH men AND women.

LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, and triglycerides -- are not the only risk factors for coronary heart disease. The risk increases with age, and if you also have a family history of premature heart disease, or are obese, smoke, have high blood pressure, or suffer from diabetes. Any decision about treating your cholesterol should be made in consultation with your doctor, taking all these heart disease and heart attack risk factors into account.

Whatever your heart health risk factors are, information is your best weapon in the fight against heart disease. Now is the time for you to re-evaluate whether you need to reduce your cholesterol.

In this free Johns Hopkins Special Report Seven Keys to Reduce Cholesterol, you will learn seven effective, proven, practical keys for lowering cholesterol-with the latest, best information and advice direct from Johns Hopkins, ranked #1 of America's Best Hospitals for 16 consecutive years.

These keys include knowing your optimal cholesterol levels, diet, how to boost your HDL, whether statins can benefit you personally, and the latest news on "Combo Therapy" in treating cholesterol.

Written by two of the leading specialists at Johns Hopkins Medicine, Dr Simeon Margolis, Medical Editor of The Johns Hopkins Medical Letter: Health After 50 and Johns Hopkins White Papers for nearly two decades, and Dr. Roger S. Blumenthal, the Director of Johns Hopkins' renowned Ciccarone Center for the Prevention of Heart Disease, Seven Keys to Reduce Cholesterol presents the latest medical research on the dangers of high cholesterol, and provides a powerful range of effective strategies for lowering your cholesterol safely.

Metabolic Solutions Development Company Raises $23.5 Million; Funds to Support Current Phase 2B Trial of Novel Type 2 Diabetes Drug

Metabolic Solutions Development Company Raises $23.5 Million; Funds to Support Current Phase 2B Trial of Novel Type 2 Diabetes Drug

Metabolic Solutions Development Company (MSDC), a clinical-stage company developing innovative therapeutics to treat diabetes and other metabolic disorders, announced today that it has raised $23.5 million, bringing the total funds raised by the company to nearly $50 million since it was founded in 2006. This latest round of financing, led by Hopen Life Sciences and including a follow-on commitment from current investor Southwest Michigan First Life Science Fund, will support the company’s 90-day, multinational Phase 2b study of its novel drug candidate (MSDC-0160) targeted at type 2 diabetes. The double-blind clinical trial, which began enrolling patients in September, will involve more than 420 patients at 30 planned sites throughout the United States and India.

Kalamazoo, MI (PRWEB) October 21, 2010

The $23.5 million in new funding also will allow MSDC to conduct Phase 1b and Phase 2a trials on a second novel drug candidate (MSDC-0602) and expand research efforts that further detail the unique mechanism of action of these compounds.

“The pharmaceutical and investor communities are increasingly interested in the ability of our candidates to provide greater benefits than current market-leading diabetes medicines without the complications inherent in current therapies,” said Jerry Colca, president and chief scientific officer of MSDC.

The Phase 2b trial of MSDC-0160 follows a Phase 2a multicenter trial that was conducted with more than 80 diabetics in the United States. In the Phase 2a trial, MSDC-0160
Demonstrated that it improved insulin sensitivity and lowered blood glucose levels in humans without the side effects of the current market-leading diabetes medicines.

“If the results of the Phase 2a study are successfully extended in this Phase 2b trial, we will generate additional momentum for our development program as we drive toward achieving our long-term goal of a therapeutic option that could be used early in the course of the disease to inhibit the otherwise inexorable progression of diabetes and its complications,” said Colca.

MSDC-0160 and MSDC-0602 focus on the selective modulation of a novel mitochondrial target that is expected to result in a significantly improved safety profile for individuals with type 2 diabetes by directly correcting a root cause of the disease. MSDC-0160 also has demonstrated significant improvements in other important metabolic disease risk factors, including blood pressure and lipids, during clinical testing.

According to the American Diabetes Association, approximately $1 in every 10 health care dollars spent is attributed to diabetes. Completed statistics from 2007 indicate that while an estimated 17.9 million have been diagnosed with diabetes, at least 5.7 million people (or nearly one in four) are unaware that they have the disease. The disease’s growth rate of 7 percent continues to outpace population growth and has been described by many health care professionals as an epidemic. In the absence of an improved treatment, there will be more than 26 million diabetics in the United States and more than 360 million diabetics worldwide by 2030.

New CEO
MSDC also announced that it has named Stephen C. Benoit as its new chief executive officer. Benoit, an executive with a record of creating new ventures and leading businesses in the life sciences, consumer packaged goods, education services and financial services industries, joins MSDC after having served most recently as the founding president and chief operating officer of the Global Food Protection Institute (GFPI). Prior to GFPI, Benoit was president and chief executive officer of NanoMed Pharmaceuticals, a nanotechnology-based oncology drug development company.

“I am extremely pleased to join the leadership team of MSDC,” said Benoit. “Founders Jerry Colca and Rolf Kletzien have done a tremendous job pushing forward their vision for the development of innovative therapeutic solutions to treat a root cause of diabetes. It’s an exciting opportunity and I couldn’t be more thrilled to have the opportunity to work with these leaders in the field of metabolic diseases.”

About Metabolic Solutions Development Company
Metabolic Solutions Development Company (http://www. msdrx. com), based in Kalamazoo, Mich., is developing innovative therapeutics based upon a novel pharmacological path to treat type 2 diabetes. This innovative approach seeks to improve the efficacy of treatment by freeing patients from the adverse side effects of current treatments, including edema and weight gain. The company’s scientific strategy is built on a historical understanding of insulin-sensitizers and its unique insight into the mechanism of insulin-sensitizing pharmacology. The company believes that its efforts will result in the creation of a new generation of superior, safer drug therapies to treat type 2 diabetes and other serious metabolic disorders.
