Free Tai Chi Chuan and Qigong for Seniors Classes at Retirement Residence in California

Free Tai Chi Chuan and Qigong for Seniors Classes at Retirement Residence in California

Prevention Magazine reported that “T’ai Chi may be the best exercise for people over the age of 60, providing cardio fitness, muscle strength, and flexibility all in one simple workout that is easy on the joints.”

(PRWEB) August 4, 2005

Paul D. Pickens II Research Foundation has been invited by the Deer Park Retirement Residence of Novato, CA, to teach a free Tai Chi and Qigong for Seniors program to their residents. The class will be open to the public as well, for a $5.00 drop in fee.

The Qigong exercises taught in this class are gentle, easy-to-follow, and excellent for those who are elderly, partially disabled, or dealing with life-altering illnesses

Practicing Tai Chi & Qigong helps to enhance the immune system and increase circulation, decrease chronic pain, hypertension and the effects of stress.

Elizabeth Meloney, an advanced teacher at the Paul D. Pickens II Research Foundation, and Brigitte McCulloch, a Teacher-in-Training, will run these classes. Elizabeth and Brigitte are compassionate, sensitive teachers and are especially qualified for teaching seniors.

“We teach the seniors to have a direct experience of their own energy, and show them exercises to boost their energy for increased health and happiness. It is such a joy for me to help our elders improve their lives,” says Elizabeth Meloney.

The one hour Qigong classes will be held twice-monthly starting August 23, 2005.

Paul D. Pickens II Research Foundation is a 501 (C) (3) non-profit educational foundation dedicated to the support of integrative modalities and improving the health and quality of life of the community through public education, research, health programs and training of health-care providers and other practitioners.

What is Qigong? Qigong is a four-thousand-year old health system, one of the four main pillars of Traditional Chinese Medicine along with acupuncture, herbs and massage. Qigong has been found to be effective at preventing loss of balance and falling injuries among the elderly. Qigong techniques are suitable for men and women, young and old, athletes and sedentary, and for the disabled. All styles are based on similar principles: relaxed, rooted posture; straight, supple spine; diaphragmatic respiration-- the abdomen expanding on inhalation, retracting on exhalation; fluid movements without excess effort; and tranquil awareness. Qigong supports and enhances all modalities of health-care.

Accellion Provides Corporations with File Transfer Tips: 2008 Top Five Tips Help Eliminate Security Risks during File Transfer

Accellion Provides Corporations with File Transfer Tips: 2008 Top Five Tips Help Eliminate Security Risks during File Transfer

According to industry research firm IDC, between 2006 and 2010 the information added annually to the digital universe will increase more than six fold. The impact of digital data is already affecting nearly every industry including marketing and advertising, legal, healthcare and Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC). As a result, the issue of how to conduct a large file transfer continues to grow in importance, reconfirming the need for companies to implement a secure file transfer solution.

PALO ALTO, Calif. (PRWEB) January 2, 2008

"In response to growing file sizes, many organizations are tightening email policies to minimize the effects of large file attachments on their networks," said Yorgen Edholm, president and CEO of Accellion, Inc. "However, we caution that these policies often lead to the use of non-compliant and non-secure workarounds as a means to transfer files."

To help companies avoid many of the problems related to large file transfer, Accellion has created a list of the top 5 issues companies should consider:

5. Know your requirements. There is a difference between corporate and consumer offerings. If you are an enterprise customer, buy an enterprise solution -- there are distinct differences in the level of security needed for enterprise vs. consumer users.

4. Avoid IT overload. Pick a solution that easily integrates into your existing IT environment and requires minimal IT administration, such as an "install and forget it" application to transfer files.

3. Make it easy to transfer files. It is best if the solution is integrated directly into email applications or web interfaces, but without affecting size limitations. If a solution is not easy to use, users will find alternative -- often unsecured -- means for sending large files.

2. Be compliant. Pick a solution that allows for complete auditing and tracking of information entering or leaving the organization.

1. Secure your data. Accept no less than business-level security when choosing a file transfer solution. Automatic encryption and authentication check points that validate recipients provide an added level of security to show that confidential information has not been shared or exposed.

Secure File Transfer for Every Market

Where there is a requirement to transfer files promptly and securely, there is a need for a secure file transfer solution. This need is affecting businesses across nearly all industries including:

-- Advertising and Marketing: Sharing Big Ideas

Digital photos, graphics, advertisements design files, web designs - the world of advertising, marketing and PR has gone digital. Marketing and advertising companies implementing a secure file transfer solution are able to speed collaboration on ideas between colleagues and customers for a true competitive advantage.

-- Legal: Secure File Transfer for Litigation Support and E-discovery

The legal profession generates a tremendous amount of digital data for litigation support, e-discovery, depositions, contracts, court filings, exhibits, and legal briefs. In today's competitive environment, law firms cannot afford to have inefficient, cumbersome systems for accessing and sharing critical data.

-- Healthcare: Secure File Transfer for Enhanced Medical Care & Treatments

Whether delivering the highest-quality healthcare, performing clinical trials, developing new drugs and medical devices, making expert diagnoses, deciding on best course of treatment, sharing medical research, healthcare professionals need to be able to share information quickly. Implementing a secure file transfer solution enables these professionals to provide superior patient care while protecting the confidentiality of patient data as required by HIPAA (the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act).

-- AEC: From Blueprint to Construction

AEC professionals depend on very large CAD drawings to do their business. The ability to provide contractors with up-to-date drawings is essential to delivering a quality job, on budget and on schedule. Unfortunately, traditional methods of printing, shipping and delivery of drawings are time-consuming and expensive. And many AEC firms have experienced the costly mistakes that result from using documents that are the wrong version.

Secure file transfers solutions enable CAD drawings to be delivered reliably and securely from one desktop to another in seconds around the world.

For additional information regarding secure and efficient transfer of large files, especially for enterprise companies, visit Accellion at www. accellion. com or call +1(650) 739-0095.

About Accellion

Founded in 1999, Accellion, Inc., the premier provider of on-demand enterprise secure file transfer solutions, is headquartered in Palo Alto, California, with offices in North America, Asia and Europe.

Engage Mutual Launch New Health Cash Plan To Give Cash Back On Frequent Health Costs

Engage Mutual Launch New Health Cash Plan To Give Cash Back On Frequent Health Costs

A new health cash plan, designed to provide cash back on the most frequently claimed health costs, has been launched by Engage Mutual.

(PRWEB) July 14, 2010

A new health cash plan (http://www. engagemutual. com/products/health-cash-plan/at-a-glance/), designed to provide cash back on the most frequently claimed health costs, has been launched by Engage Mutual (http://www. engagemutual. com).

The Engage Mutual health cash plan focuses on the benefits people use most - dental, optical and complementary therapy costs - giving 100 per cent cash back up to each benefit level limit.

Wearers of spectacles or contact lenses; those who regularly visit the dentist; or those requiring physiotherapy or any of the other complementary therapies included; can enjoy good levels of cash back on these regular outlays. Plan holders simply keep their receipts, fill in a form and claim back £1 for every £1 spent, up to their chosen plan’s maximum benefit level.

Costing from £10 per month, the ‘everyday’ Engage Mutual health cash plan provides 100 per cent cash back on annual costs up to £450 across dental, optical and complementary therapies. The deluxe level at £14 per month gives 100 per cent cash back on annual costs across the same benefits up to £675, and the superior level at £18 per month gives 100 per cent back up to £900 per year (see table below).

“The cost of regular contact lens supplies and replacement prescription glasses alone can quickly mount up, so being able to claim back on everyday costs like these puts money back in your pocket,” said Helen Graham, Head of Health Cash Plans at Engage Mutual (http://www. engagemutual. com/products/health-cash-plan/cover-levels/?opentab=3).

Complementary treatments such as physiotherapy on the NHS can in some cases involve weeks of waiting after seeing a doctor. But following GP referral, the health cash plan will pay cash back on consultations with qualified private practitioners of physiotherapy, osteopathy, chiropractic and acupuncture, cutting down on waiting times before treatment.

“The security of having a plan that can help towards the expense of a series of treatments encourages individuals to address any niggling or ongoing health issues, which over time can impact on quality of life.” Helen Graham continued.

Included as part of the plan’s dental cover are the costs of check ups, treatment, dentures, fillings, crowns and root canals, in addition to hygienist treatments.

Helen Graham concluded:

“With 65% of claims made on health cash plans being for eyes, teeth and muscular issues1, the Engage Mutual health cash plan has been streamlined to offer generous benefits on these key conditions.”

The plan also includes personal accident cover and accidental death cover up to £10,000. Another added benefit is the inclusion of small amount of life cover within the plan’s benefits. Dependant children can enjoy their own dental and optical cover (http://www. engagemutual. com/products/health-cash-plan/cover-levels/?opentab=3) at no extra cost. Child cover benefit amounts are split between all eligible children. It is not an amount per child. (see table below)
ends -

How does the Engage Mutual health cash plan work?
When you pay dental, optical, or complementary therapist bills, simply save your receipt, complete a simple claim form and send this with the original receipt to Engage Mutual. We aim to pay your cash back within two days of your claim form and receipts being received. There is the option of having the amount paid directly into your bank account.

All benefits are available for treatments incurred anywhere within the European Community when travelling for business/pleasure purposes up to 28 days.

You don't need to purchase a separate plan for your children. They have their own limited dental and optical entitlement.

The benefit amounts for dependent children are shared between all eligible children and are not amounts per child.

Child cover  cash back amount  cash back for dependent children
Optical cover 100% per year up to £50
Dental cover 100% per year up to £50

American Podiatric Medical Association Podiatrists Perform Life-Saving Amputations in Haiti

American Podiatric Medical Association Podiatrists Perform Life-Saving Amputations in Haiti

Limb removal surgery all too common since the disaster hit

Bethesda, MD (Vocus) January 29, 2010

When a devastating earthquake rocked a vulnerable Haiti on January 12, lives of numerous American podiatrists with ties to the country and its people were rocked too. For years, American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) doctors have travelled to the diabetes plagued nation on a mission to save lower-limbs from amputation as a result of the disease. In fact, nearly seven percent of the estimated nine million Haitians have diabetes, and far too many don’t even know they have it. Ironically, APMA doctors, such as Patrick DeHeer, DPM, of Carmel, IN, who set up a diabetes wound care center in Port-au-Prince with the intent of preventing people’s legs, feet and toes from being amputated, this month found himself back in the devastated city to perform the surgery he tried so hard to avoid — amputations. He did it not because of diabetes, but in order to save lives.

"It is chaos here — terrible injuries, people crushed, compartment syndromes — many of which are ending up in amputations," reported Dr. DeHeer, who served as a wound care director for a field hospital at a United Nations (UN) compound overseen by Project Medishare in Haiti’s capital city. "I just assisted on a below-the-knee amputation with an orthopedic surgeon on a 12-year-old girl. It is overwhelming."

This type of limb removal surgery, such as the one Dr. DeHeer described, has become all too common since the disaster hit. Infections, such as gangrene, have made amputations imminent without enough antibiotics and proper sterilization. The Pan American Health Organization reports there will be thousands of amputations in Haiti — and nearly half of the people impacted may lose more than one limb. Haiti’s high prevalence of diabetes and lack medicine to properly regulate the disease may only compound the amputation demand, as well as the need for expert podiatric care.

“It’s a tragedy that such an already fragile nation has to deal with such devastation and loss,” said APMA President Ronald D. Jensen, DPM. “As a podiatrist, I know first-hand how tragic it can be for a patient to lose a limb. There is a tremendous amount of help and support that the patient and their family require that is a challenge to provide in the best of circumstances. The people in Haiti will need help for a very long time.”

APMA podiatrists across the country continue to deploy to the shaken country to offer medical assistance. Only time will tell what toll the surge in amputations will have on the plight of the Haitian people.

To read more about APMA podiatrists’ missions to Haiti, visit www. apma. org.

Founded in 1912, the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) is the nation's leading and recognized professional organization for doctors of podiatric medicine (DPMs). DPMs are podiatric physicians and surgeons, also known as podiatrists, qualified by their education, training and experience to diagnose and treat conditions affecting the foot, ankle and related structures of the leg. The medical education and training of a DPM includes four years of undergraduate education, four years of graduate education at an accredited podiatric medical college and two or three years of hospital residency training. APMA has 53 state component locations across the United States and its territories, with a membership of close to 12,000 podiatrists. All practicing APMA members are licensed by the state in which they practice podiatric medicine. For more information, visit www. apma. org.

Dr. Zhi Gang Sha to Welcome Dr. Masaru Emoto, from ‘What the Bleep Do We Know?” on VoiceAmerica™ Health & Wellness Channel

Dr. Emoto will discuss the mystery and power of water on Dr. Sha’s Internet talk radio show, “Power Healing”.

(PRWEB) June 9, 2005

Dr. Zhi Gang Sha, will welcome very special guest, Dr. Masaru Emoto to his weekly internet radio show, “Power Healing with Dr. Sha,” on the VoiceAmerica™ Health & Wellness Channel (http://www. health. voiceamerica. com/ (http://www. health. voiceamerica. com/)) on Friday, June 10, at 5PM PST (8PM EST). The VoiceAmerica™ Health & Wellness Channel provides education, interaction and advice on key issues in a variety of health related topics.

Dr. Emoto is the acclaimed author and master who was featured in the award-winning documentary “What the Bleep Do We Know?” Dr. Sha will speak with Dr. Emoto about his breakthrough work with water crystals and the unique properties water has to improve our health and lives.

What has put Dr. Emoto at the forefront of the study of water is his proof that thoughts and feelings affect physical reality. By producing different focused intentions through written and spoken words and music and literally presenting it to the same water samples, the water appears to "change its expression". The implications of this research create a new awareness of how we can positively impact the earth and our personal health.

“It is my great honor to welcome such an esteemed guest to my show,” Dr. Sha comments. “Dr. Emoto is considered a pioneer in his innovative work with water and the powerful healing effects it has on the human body. I encourage you to tune in to this rare opportunity to hear one of the world’s most influential masters and healers of our time.”

Dr. Emoto is a graduate of the Yokohama Municipal UniversityÂ’s department of humanities and sciences. He was awarded with certification from Open International University as a Doctor of Alternative Medicine in 1992. Established Resident Salon Services Leader Adopts New Name

West Palm Beach, Fla. — Marvin M. Weinstein, president, Osborne Associates, Inc. is pleased to announce that the company has changed its operating name from HealthCare HairServices to Generations Salon Services.

According to Weinstein, the transformation was logical. "As the assisted living industry expanded rapidly in the '90s, providers sought us out, so we naturally expanded our services to meet their needs.

"We learned that since most residents do not identify themselves as being in a health care setting, we decided that we should de-emphasize the health care aspect of our name," Weinstein added.

"In an effort to address the broader needs of all of our clients, regardless which setting they were living in, we decided to change our name to Generations Salon Service, which we believe better describes our unique and very special salon services," Weinstein said.

The new name is the only change. The ownership, management, licensed cosmetologist managers and stylists remain the same, as is the company's commitment to the highest quality and most affordable beauty and grooming services available.

Founded by Weinstein in 1991, the company started by providing professional salon services almost exclusively to nursing homes. As the assisted living market developed, it transitioned to offer its unique services to men and women who also reside in assisted living facilities and retirement communities.

Generations Salon Services currently provides services to more than 25,000 residents each month, at more than 300 facilities in 10 states -- making it one of the largest resident salon services providers of its kind in the nation.

Prior to founding Osborne Associates Inc., Weinstein was president of Williams Financial Group, a merger and acquisition company and the chief financial officer of Safeguard Business Systems Inc., a NYSE company that manufactures accounting systems for small businesses.

Diane Recchia is a licensed Florida cosmetologist and has been with Generations Salon Services for more than six years. She has always worked with seniors, even when she had her own salon. "I like working with seniors and making them feel like they are important. Our biggest challenge is working with seniors with AlzheimerÂ’s or dementia -- they are special people who need special care," Recchia said.

And, I have to say that I enjoy working for Generations Salon Services, they really treat people well," Recchia declared.

According to Weinstein, every business should have a "driving force" around which decisions are tested and made. "When I founded Osborne Associates, I decided the resident should be my companyÂ’s driving force and all decisions should revolve around what's in the resident's best interest," Weinstein said.

"We would not be able to realize this vision without the friendly, compassionate and experienced stylists who are patient, respectful and understand the needs of each customer and relate well to seniors," he concluded.

SchmartBoard Announces New Education Program

SchmartBoard Announces New Education Program

Students and educational institutions to receive a 20% discount on SchmartBoard.

Fremont, CA (PRWEB) October 25, 2007

SchmartBoard, the developer of a new technology that has significantly simplified the creation of electronic circuits for hobbyists, education and industry, has announced a new education discount program.

Electronics Education generally teaches electronics theory, but not hand soldering skills. Despite this, electronics students must still figure out how to design and assemble circuits that use advanced component packaging, which requires expert soldering skills to prototype. SchmartBoard|ez technology alleviates this challenge by making it easy to hand solder these types of advanced surface mount components. SchmartBoard thus opens up the scenario for students to successfully utilize today's advanced technology for senior projects and other class requirements.

"A healthy percentage of SchmartBoard's online customers are students," said SchmartBoard's VP of sales & marketing, Neal Greenberg. "There is no reason why SchmartBoard should not own this market segment when you consider the value that we add to those learning electronics. This program is to ensure that Schmartboard becomes the standard tool for education and therefore assures that these students will continue to use our products in their professional lives."

SchmartBoard will now offer a 20% discount to high schools, colleges, trade schools universities and their students. Other advantages are available to institutions that sign up for the program including some demo boards for in-school lab's to demo the technology to students.

Details of the program can be found at: http://www. schmartboard. com/index. asp? page=schmartland_education (http://www. schmartboard. com/index. asp? page=schmartland_education)

Treatments for Depression Often Ineffective; Study Shows That Many Would Benefit From Alternative Treatment Methods

Treatments for Depression Often Ineffective; Study Shows That Many Would Benefit From Alternative Treatment Methods

A research study conducted to compare patient attitudes on treatments for depression reveals that the majority struggle to find effective treatment. HealthTree. com to test new anonymous video polling technique.

San Diego, CA (Vocus) June 29, 2010

Despite the variety of depression treatments (http://www. healthtree. com/articles/depression/treatment/major/) available, those suffering from depression often have difficulty finding a treatment plan that works. Results from a recent depression treatment poll conducted by HealthTree. com revealed that patients with depression often don’t respond well to traditional treatments, and many discontinue their treatment plan due to ineffectiveness or intolerable side effects. Of particular interest, the study found that the majority of those suffering from depression try three or more treatments to alleviate their symptoms, and 35% of respondents have tried five or more depression treatments.

The survey sampled 1,238 self-reported or diagnosed depressives. Of the total respondents, over 70% were diagnosed with clinical depression, with the remainder considering themselves depressive. The study asked respondents how they had attempted to treat their symptoms, how many treatments they have tried, and their reasons for switching or ceasing treatment. The vast majority of those polled (85%) had tried traditional treatments for depression--prescription drugs and psychotherapy--and had attempted at least three different treatment options. Most respondents (60%) believed that anti-depressants are over-prescribed by doctors. These findings suggest that those suffering from depression are often dissatisfied with traditional treatment options and may benefit from exploring alternative depression therapies.

“With the diversity of responses from the research, we are particularly interested in testing a new interactive method for patient education aimed at helping those struggling to find a depression treatment that works. Our goal is to provide individuals with the knowledge they need to take control of their health, and we’re using increasingly new technology to do so,” said Dr. Regan Carey, the Project Director for the study.

While traditional depression treatments (http://www. healthtree. com/articles/depression/treatment/major/) are ineffective for many patients, still others are reluctant to try them at all. According to a recent study published by the New York Times, as many as 25% of pregnant women suffer from depression, and a large percentage of those women are hesitant to take antidepressants during pregnancy. The same study suggests that alternative treatments can provide relief from depression symptoms.

Immigration Attorney Provides Possible Explanation for the Recent Downturn in U. S Illegal Immigration

Immigration Attorney Provides Possible Explanation for the Recent Downturn in U. S Illegal Immigration

A prominent Immigration Attorney, Darren Silver, Esq. the Principal attorney of Darren Silver & Associates, provides some insight into the recent unexpected statistic which showed a dramatic slow-down in illegal immigration to the U. S.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) October 6, 2008

A Startling report released October 2, 2008 by a prominent Washington think tank provided statistics showing that for the first time in over a decade, the number of legal immigrants entering the U. S to work exceeded the number of illegal immigrants entering to work.

The report by the Pew Hispanic Center indicated approximately 11.9 million unauthorized immigrants living in the United States as of March 2008, down from 12.4 million in March 2007. The number of people coming into the country illegally decreased from 800,000 a year from 2000 through 2004 to about 500,000 a year from 2005 through 2008. The number of legal permanent immigrant residents who came into the country in 2007 was about 650,000.

Darren Silver, Esq. the Principal attorney of Darren Silver & Associates (http://www. darrensilver. com), one of the Nation's preeminent Business immigration Law Firms, attributes the sudden down turn in illegal immigration to the housing and mortgage crises. Mr. Silver estimates that that at least 30% of all illegal immigrants that enter the U. S to look for jobs that are either directly or indirectly supported by housing construction or home improvement jobs. Mr. Silver warns that while anti-immigrant groups may welcome this news, they are short sighted in not realizing that the slowdown of illegal immigration is a key indicator of a troubled economy and the contrary of a growing flux of illegal immigration is a sign of a healthy prosperous economy.

Mr. Silver (http://www. darrensilver. com) further opined on the necessity for Congress to enact significant immigration reform. Mr. Silver believes that the economy would benefit significantly from those illegal workers already in the U. S obtaining some type of legal status. Mr. Silver contends that those illegal workers would be able to pay taxes and directly support and stimulate the U. S economy. Further, the workers will then be able to purchase cars, take air travel and invest their earning. All of which are currently prohibited based on immigration status. There is no doubt that this type of reform would create a much needed bump to the U. S Economy says Mr. Silver.

Chinese Drywall Complaint Center Calls 2005-2006 Homes In Houston & Orlando The New Hot Spots For Chinese Drywall & Knauf Tianjin Or Taishan Chinese Drywall

Chinese Drywall Complaint Center Calls 2005-2006 Homes In Houston & Orlando The New Hot Spots For Chinese Drywall & Knauf Tianjin Or Taishan Chinese Drywall

The Chinese Drywall Complaint Center is trying everything possible to create a sense of urgency in identifying toxic Chinese drywall, Knauf Tianjin, and or Taishan Chinese drywall, specifically for homeowners in 2005-2006 homes in Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and the Houston, and Austin metro areas of Southeast Texas. The group says, "if you live anywhere in Florida, especially in the metro area of Orlando, or Houston, Texas, if your 2005-2006 house has had numerous AC coil failures, electrical issues, and or electrical issues, we need to talk to you immediately about the possibility of toxic Chinese drywall, Knauf Tianjin, and or Taishan toxic Chinese drywall, in your home." The group says, "we think the makers of Knauf Tianjin Chinese drywall, and possibly Taishan Chinese drywall will settle with completely innocent US homeowners stuck in a toxic house, or condominium in Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and the metro areas of Houston, and Austin, Texas, but time could be running out, so we need to get these homeowners identified now." They say, "if you have had numerous AC coil failures, in a 2005-2006 Gulf States home, or condominium please call us immediately at 866-714-6466." http://ChineseDrywallComplaintCenter. Com

Washington, DC (Vocus) September 27, 2010

The Chinese Drywall Complaint Center urging homeowners in 2005-2006 new, or remodeled homes, in Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and the metro areas of Houston, or Austin, Texas, who have had numerous air conditioning coil failures, to check the groups web site for a very simple self inspection, for toxic Chinese drywall. Because of lack of publicity, the Chinese Drywall Complaint Center fears most homeowners in the US Gulf States have not considered toxic Chinese drywall in 2005, or 2006, as being the reason for AC coil failures, electrical issues, or severe health problems in their homes. They say, "as an example, most homeowners in 2005-2006 Houston, or Orlando are not even aware of the problem, or they have not considered that toxic Chinese drywall is the reason for all of their unexplained AC issues, electrical problems, and or health issues." To date only about 6000, 2005-2006 Knauf Tianjin toxic Chinese drywall homes in US Gulf States homes have been identified by the Federal Court in New Orleans. The Chinese Drywall Complaint Center says, "in Florida alone we are certain there are over 120,000 homes that contain 2005-2006 Knauf Tianjin toxic Chinese drywall. If you add in Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and the metro areas of Houston, and Austin, Texas, we could be well over 200,000. The homebuilders were intermixing Chinese made drywall, with US made drywall during this time frame. So the numbers skyrocket." Homeowners who suspect the US Gulf States home might contain toxic Chinese drywall, Knauf Tianjin, or Taishan Chinese drywall should contact the Chinese Drywall Complaint Center immediately at 866-714-6466, or contact the group via its web site at http://ChineseDrywallComplaintCenter. Com

The Chinese Drywall Complaint Center is saying, "time really is of the essence to get all 2005-2006 Knauf Tianjin, and now Taishan toxic Chinese drywall identified in Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and the metro areas of Houston, and Austin, Texas. We think we have only identified 1 in 25 Knauf Tianjin toxic drywall 2005-2006, in the US Gulf States, and the numbers could be as bad with Taishan toxic Chinese drywall." The group says, if you live in a US Gulf States 2005-2006 new, or remodeled home, if your home has had numerous AC coil failures, please check your attic carefully, and see if the drywall says Knauf Tianjin." For pictures of 2005-2006 knauf Tianjin toxic Chinese drywall please visit the Chinese Drywall Complaint Center's web site at http://ChineseDrywallComplaintCenter. Com

The Chinese Drywall Complaint Center is also warning homeowners in Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, or the metro areas of Houston, or Austin, Texas, who have recently received a letter from their homebuilder regarding Chinese drywall should call the group immediately at 866-714-6466. The group is offering all homeowners in these states free instructions for a simple Chinese drywall self inspection. http://ChineseDrywallComplaintCenter. Com
Urgent Update: The Chinese Drywall Complaint Center is saying, "we were in Fort Meyers, Florida on September 27th, and we actually happened to run into a toxic Chinese drywall foreclosure flipper, who bragged about the fact he was making about $100,000 per home. Where are the Fed's, where is the US Justice Department?" The group says, "we also need the Obama Administration, and the US EPA explain what blank drywall is, no ASTM code/fire rating code, or manufacturers name, and why we are finding so much of it in the US Southeast? We also are demanding the US close it borders to all Chinese exported drywall-including the border with Mexico-where we fear Chinese drywall is leaking in." http://ChineseDrywallComplaintCenter. Com  The Chinese Drywall Complaint Center is also warning, "in the June 2005 edition of Money Magazine our group warned about a US real estate train wreck related to complicit banks, and big homebuilders puffing up their appraisal values. No one listened." They say, "we are now formally warning the nation about toxic Chinese drywall in US homes-its another game changer. Toxic Chinese drywall is an unparalleled US environmental disaster, we have just found toxic Chinese drywall in California. Wall Street needs to wake up-you and your mortgage backed securities pension clients have a really, really, big problem." http://ChineseDrywallComplaintCenter. Com.

Feather River Hospital's previous CAPE awards include a Bronze in 2005 and a Silver in 2006. CHOC was honored last year with a Bronze-level CAPE Award.

Both organizations credit their dedication to quality and best practices, along with the deployment of an automated Balanced Scorecard framework, as reasons for their award wins this year. Beth Rowett, Vice President, Quality at CHOC, explains, "This award signals that we are an example to the community of how to align an organization from top to bottom - ensuring that nothing stands in the way of the high-quality care we provide to children who need it. We are proud to be acknowledged two years in a row by the California Council for Excellence."

Also at the CCE's Annual Conference, which begins on April 15th, ActiveStrategy's Public Sector Practice Director, Christine Heflin, will present on three performance excellence topics. Her presentations include a keynote address on the City of Coral Springs' Baldrige journey (where she was previously an internal consultant), a session on how Baldrige criteria can be applied at non-profits, governments, and mission-based organizations, and a session on how to achieve breakthrough improvement results in a Balanced Scorecard Framework.

HealthFitness Makes Case for Integrated Health Benefit Design in New Issue Brief Spotlighting Florida Power & Light

HealthFitness Makes Case for Integrated Health Benefit Design in New Issue Brief Spotlighting Florida Power & Light

FPL-WELL's multi-faceted program puts employee at center of health promotion.

Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) August 21, 2008

Connecting the dots between employee health benefit programs—from fitness and health coaching services to on-site primary care delivery—can build a more productive workforce and improve the bottom line. A new issue brief from HealthFitness (OTC BB: HFIT) outlines the steps to success employers can take to create a more comprehensive approach to integrated employee health benefits.

The issue brief, "Integrated Health Benefit Design Powers Florida Utility Company's Workforce," draws on the strength of experienced voices. The report features insight from Andrew Scibelli, manager of Employee Health & Well-being for FPL GROUP, and presents a case example of that company's integrated program. Bruce Sherman also contributes to the brief; he is medical director, Global Services, The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, and director of health and productivity initiatives for the Employers Health Coalition of Ohio.

FPL-WELL manages health care benefits for its more than 15,000 employees that integrate five major program elements: fitness centers, primary and urgent care health centers, health promotion, nutrition and weight management services and employee assistance programs. The program has reduced the rate of health care cost increases for the self-insured company over the years and produced a positive return on investment of 3:1.

"FPL-WELL represents a model of true integration in health benefit design," said Gregg O. Lehman, Ph. D., president and chief executive officer for HealthFitness. "The approach is employee-centered, not program-centered. All five elements are managed as an integrated whole. And it is the clearest way an employer can communicate that its employees are an asset."

HealthFitness oversees fitness and health promotion programs for FPL-WELL, managing fitness programs along with health education, awareness and risk behavior change programs. HealthFitness is a leading provider of employee health management programs. Managing more than 300 fitness centers globally, the company also offers a suite of health management services on-site, Web-based and telephonically.

"The approach is to take care of the complete individual," Scibelli says in the brief. "Our role is to identify those with a chronic health issue and to provide services and support to manage the condition and move that person to better health. The other emphasis is to get healthy people to stay healthy."

FPL-WELL was recently honored by the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services for the Innovation in Prevention Award. The award recognizes businesses, public agencies and non-profit organizations for efforts in health promotion and chronic disease prevention. FPL-Well was selected from 40 candidates in the Healthy Work Force category for large companies.

Highly Anticipated Weight Loss Product, SatietrolÂ&#174

Highly Anticipated Weight Loss Product, Satietrol® ,

(PRWEB) April 6, 2000

Woodbridge, NJ, April 4, 2000 - Satietrol® , a highly anticipated product developed by PacificHealth Laboratories, Inc. (NASDAQ: PHLI) and clinically proven to help people lose weight by activating the body’s natural appetite control mechanism, will be available on April 10, 2000.

Satietrol can be purchased by calling 1-877-SATIETY or through a website hungeroff. com. The product will be carried by a number of major Internet retailers and will be available at retail shortly. The suggested retail price for Satietrol is $39.99 for 42 servings.

The advertising campaign will break in all Philadelphia newspapers on April 10th. Philadelphia was recently ranked as “America’s Fattest City”. Following Philadelphia, the campaign will be extended to other major markets.

Satietrol is the first weight loss product designed to activate cholecystokinin (CCK). CCK is a protein released after a meal, which gives an individual a feeling of fullness or satiety. Satietrol activates CCK prior to a meal and extends the action of CCK after a meal. Clinical trials have shown that Satietrol:

· Decreased hunger up to 35% for as long as 3.5 hours after eating.

· Produced a mean weight loss of 9 lbs in a six-week home trial involving 115 subjects.

· Maintained and even enhanced its effect on appetite with continued use.

Twenty-five years ago, researchers showed that CCK is largely responsible for the feeling of fullness or satiety experienced after a meal. Although CCK appeared to offer great promise as a natural appetite control agent, its use for weight loss was limited by the fact that it only worked when given by injection.

Satietrol is an 80-calorie vanilla flavored beverage, which is consumed 10-15 minutes before each meal. To stimulate CCK release, Satietrol contains glycomacropeptide, a protein derived from milk, calcium and a small amount of fatty acids. To extend the action of CCK, Satietrol contains two soluble fibers, guar and glucomannan, as well as potato fiber, and plant saponins from alfalfa.

Satietrol is a culmination of four years of research by PacificHealth Laboratories, Inc. and represents their first entry into the $50 billion weight loss category. The company recently filed a patent on this product.

According to Dr. Robert Portman, President and CEO, “Satietrol offers enormous promise to the 50% of adult Americans who are overweight. Because it works by stimulating the body’s natural satiety mechanisms, it does not cause the side effects generally associated with diet products. When used with dietary restriction, Satietrol can help an individual lose weight and reduce hunger cravings. Satietrol does not require a major change in diet behavior. Individuals will lose weight because they’ll feel full or satisfied with less food.”

Researchers Look Behind the Scenes at Cancer Caregivers

Researchers Look Behind the Scenes at Cancer Caregivers

The National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR) points out that a significant part of coping with cancer is understanding that cancer and its side effects are not limited to the individual who suffers, but also experienced by all people connected to the individual.

Bethesda, MD (PRWEB) May 25, 2006 -—

The National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR) points out that a significant part of coping with cancer is understanding that cancer and its side effects are not limited to the individual who suffers, but also experienced by all people connected to the individual. Approximately 44 million Americans provide unpaid care to a family member or friend, sometimes around the clock, according to studies.

Researchers estimate that more than one million Americans are diagnosed with cancer each year. In recent years, medical advances and continued research have contributed to shorter hospital stays for patients who suffer from diseases and illness, including cancer. In fact, statistics indicate that 90 percent of cancer care is delivered in outpatient settings, where caregivers bear the major responsibility for this home care. Caregivers are commonly immediate family members, relatives, loved ones or friends of the person with cancer.

These caregivers oftentimes experience some of the same challenges, emotions and physical and mental effects as the person with cancer. People with cancer usually feel vulnerable, isolated and/or bitter. They are weaker and more inclined to pain and stress. Moreover, some cancer survivors may not regain full energy and health levels due to the strain the body and mind underwent.

The demands of providing full-time or part-time care to a friend or loved one, can take a huge emotional toll and contribute to various stress effects on the caregiver, such as a weakening of the immune system and becoming more susceptible to illnesses, depression and sleep deprivation, according to health professionals.

In an effort to help reduce the negative effects and increase quality of life, for both parties, NFCR suggests these tips to help both caregivers and those who accept care:

•Learn to listen. Encourage the person with cancer to talk about how and what they feel and then you express how you have been feeling. Sharing your feelings can be very therapeutic.

•Keep a journal. Both parties can reflect and express themselves privately, if verbal communication is not comfortable yet. A journal can allow overwhelmed minds to relax and promote creativity through writing, drawing or sketching.

•Break up the duties. Incorporate a support group or other loved ones into the caregiving mix to help assist and lessen the load. Experts suggest that integrating this into the routine can be positive and highly beneficial to all parties.

•Set goals. Whether they are short-term or long-term, reasonable goals will give both parties something to look forward to and strive to achieve, possibly making the day, week, month or year better.

About NFCR

Since its founding in 1973, the National Foundation for Cancer Research has spent more than $230 million funding basic science cancer research and education focused on understanding how and why cells become cancerous. This worldwide "laboratory without walls" assembles the intellectual power to achieve one of medicine's greatest goals: a cure for cancer. NFCR is Research for a Cure. A Time-Saving Concept for the Fall Semester: College, University Professors Benefiting from Appointment-Plus Online Scheduling Software for Managing Office Time, Student

A Time-Saving Concept for the Fall Semester: College, University Professors Benefiting from Appointment-Plus Online Scheduling Software for Managing Office Time, Student

Appointment-Plus online appointment-scheduling software is helping professors and departments this fall at colleges, universities, technical schools and other institutes of higher education better manage their office hours and student appointments. It offers such functionality as online student self-scheduling, automated e-mail and text message reminders, and robust record-keeping and reporting capabilities.

Scottsdale, AZ (Vocus) September 21, 2010

Most college and university professors and instructors will schedule office hours each week to meet with their students this fall semester, just as they've always done. Few, however, require appointments, as they rely on a “first-come, first-serve” policy that’s oftentimes inconvenient to both them and their students. On some days, they may not meet with any students, thereby wasting hours of their valuable time. Additionally, some students may be reluctant to wait for the next available slot and simply leave.

This dilemma is easily remedied with Appointment-Plus online scheduling software.

A leader in college scheduling software solutions since 2001, Appointment-Plus gives college and university professors, instructors and departments the online tools they need to improve and automate their office scheduling, such as: online student self-scheduling, whereby they can view available meeting times and book their appointment at their own convenience, 24 hours a day; automated e-mail and text message reminders sent prior to a scheduled appointment; and robust recordkeeping and reporting capabilities for storing meeting notes.

Professors, instructors and their staff can easily customize their Appointment-Plus online scheduler to reflect their office hours and when they’re available to meet with students. They can quickly block off unavailable times and also require students to schedule their appointments in advance, such as within eight hours of their appointment. Because of its versatility, a department can establish one account and allow an unlimited number of professors and instructors to set up and manage their office appointment schedules.

“Keeping ‘open’ office hours instead of scheduling appointments is usually not the most efficient manner for college and university professors and instructors to meet with their students,” says Bob La Loggia, president and founder of StormSource Software, the developer of Appointment-Plus. “Our scheduling software lets them easily and quickly incorporate an appointment-scheduling process that’s advantageous to them and their students.”

Among colleges and universities that utilize Appointment-Plus for their scheduling needs include:
Georgetown University Harvard University Ohio State University Penn State University University of Michigan Yale University

Appointment-Plus is a Web-based application accessible from any Internet connection, which benefits not only students wishing to schedule their appointments online, but also to professors and instructors that manage their schedules from outside their office or from different on - and off-campus locations. Users can open their scheduler in PDAs, smartphones such as iPhone and Droid, and other mobile and WiFi devices, such as the iPad.

If incorporating the student self-scheduling function, professors and instructors can easily direct students to their online scheduler with an Appointment-Plus-provided button link on their Web site. Departments can also interface the scheduling software with their current Student Information System (SIS) or portal, allowing students to access the online scheduler without having to log into a separate Web page.

Appointment-Plus eliminates the need to manually enter appointment and booking information into a book, spreadsheet or electronic calendar. Once scheduled, the system can automatically send e-mail and text message reminders to the students. Appreciated by students, these automated reminders can help cut the “no-show” rate by 50 percent.

Because it’s Internet-based, Appointment-Plus doesn’t require costly hardware or program installations. Additionally, the professor, instructor or department does not need to own or operate a Web site to use Appointment-Plus. Pricing starts at $39 per month with no long-term contracts, along with free set-up assistance with a dedicated coach.

“For some, the tediousness of scheduling student appointments makes it a less appealing alternative to ‘open’ office hours,” La Loggia adds. “Let Appointment-Plus help you make better use of your time and your students’ with an easy-to-implement, automated appointment-scheduling solution.”

To learn more about Appointment-Plus and how it can improve your office-scheduling procedures, click here.

About Appointment-Plus: Appointment-Plus supplies over 4,000 clients throughout the United States, Canada and 10 other countries the tools they need to efficiently and accurately schedule appointments and sessions, book rooms, accept registrations and many other services. The flagship product of Scottsdale, Ariz.-based StormSource Software, the online application has scheduled over 50 million appointments since its launch in 2001. Users of the service include colleges and universities, Fortune 500 companies, healthcare agencies and facilities, federal and local governments, freight and delivery services, and small businesses such as such as tutors, instructors, medical offices, spas, health clubs and massage therapists.
