New Oxygen Cylinder Lift Developed for Ambulances Can Help Reduce Back Injuries

The Tank Boss is a new oxygen cylinder lift developed by I-Tec Mfg for ambulance and rescue companies. EMS personnel no longer need to risk injuring their backs as a result of lifting tanks themselves.

Winnsboro, TX (PRWEB) July 20, 2006

I-Tec Mfg has developed the Tank Boss, a new oxygen cylinder lift designed to raise tanks into ambulances. The purpose of the Tank Boss is to decrease lifting type of back injuries for EMS workers by offering a zero-lift device.

Owner and retired fire Captain, Mike Wilson, created the Tank Boss to help alleviate back injuries. “Almost one in two [workers] (47%) have sustained a back injury while performing EMS duties,” (National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians, 2005).

“It’s no longer a chore to switch out the cylinders,” stated Jose Cruz, paramedic for the Dallas Fire Department.

The Tank Boss uses a linear actuator to vertically raise cylinders up to 27”. The tanks can then be slid directly into ambulance compartments. Unlike onboard lifts, one Tank Boss can be used for multiple ambulances because it stands alone and can transfer tanks from storage area to ambulances.

I-Tec Mfg has manufactured the Multi-Grip Head Immobilizer since 1989, and this year added numerous other products such as the Tank Boss, PAL (a Patient Assist Lift), Adjust-A-Splints and more. Currently, I-Tec Mfg is in the process of developing a mechanical patient lift for healthcare facilities. More information is offered at their website www. itecmfg. com.
